Mister Sparky of Sarasota

All I wanted was an interior outlet moved in a new house and a remote installed in a ceiling fan. Probably less than an hours work. After spending an hour writing up an estimate which included multiple other major items that would not be needed in a new home the estimate came in at over $1400.00. Truly a scam!

A year and a half ago, I had Mr. Sparky replace all the smoke detectors in my home. All was fine until 3 AM this morning when all the devices fired off and screamed for 45 minutes until I was able to remove them from the ceiling. I called Mr. Sparky this morning to report the problem, and was pleased to hear that the original installation was covered by a 3 year warranty. They sent a technician to my home today and the problem at this point seems to be completely resolved. Brian, the technician, spent two hours at our home troubleshooting. As it turns out, the problem seems to have been a simple matter of dust collecting in one of the units. Time will tell. I must say that I thought the original cost of replacing the units to be higher than I expected. However, this is a case of getting what you pay for. Brian was extremely professional and knwoledgable. He spent a great deal of time speaking with both my wife and myself in trying to determine the cause of the problem. A great detective. He tested and cleaned all the units and even installed fresh batteries at no additional charge.

After I puchased the deal on Angies List, I did not hear anything from Mr. Sparky. My eMails were not answered. Only when I called, i could get an appointment. This appointment was hold and there were two men coming for the inspection. They found, that the smoke alarm was out of date - which is of course dangerous. So I had them replace all the smoke alarms, which costed a lot of money. The main issue, why I called the on the first place, was then repaired as well and it works fine now. My home used to be owned by a "handyman" and it turned out, that there are several things not professionally made - not all of it is a security issue though. I feel good, now I am living in a safe home again! Thanks Mr. Sparky!

It went excellent. He arrived on time and even went to Home Depot to pick up the light and then moved the fridge for me after installing a dedicated plug. Very professional. He knew his stuff and cleaned up afterwards. Very impressed with the company.

After I verified with another company that there would be no trip charge for their estimate scheduled earlier that same day-I called Mister Sparky back and told them that I did not believe I wanted to pay a trip change for a company to give me an estimate. Estimates are generally required when it comes to electricity and Mister Sparkys offer to waive that fee IF I agreed to let them make the repairs on the spot reminded me of a high pressure salesman and not somebody I want to do business with. I canceled that appointment and called Speedy Electric (another Angies List advertiser) and was more than happy with their process to give estimates.

All breakers worked well until the last one was installed and it kept tripping. This necessitated a diagnosis of what was causing the breaker to trip. The diagnosis required several hours of tracing wires and opening switches, outlets, etc. Eventually, the fault was found and the breaker held. All have been working well since.

They are branded to be highly punctual and do not negotiate on prices so that there's no mismatch on estimates and so that it's fair to everybody. It wasn't inexpensive but it was a good service. I like the marketing idea that they get there quickly in case it's an emergency and that's how they brand themselves.

They had to turn the main power off, and they had the main city electrical company come and do that. I tried to find some reviews online, and I could find some positive reviews, and they were local, and so I thought I would give them a try, and I was happy with them. Their prices were fair, and they were professional.

Received my paid invoice as per his promise on time. Appreciated his informational skills & warranty on work performed. Equipment via: work truck, very clean & professional.

Mister Sparky really tried to take me to the bank. Had major electrical problems in the house just a few days before Christmas 2013 and thinking it was a power surge called TECO to come check it out as I was just heading out the door to work. TECO called me at work and informed me that they had diagnosed the problem as a short on the load side of the meter can with one burnt wire and that all power had been removed from the residence at the street pole. Called Mister Sparky and for $190.00 emergency service fee they came out to the residence. Mister Sparky technician said the cheapest fix was to replace the meter can jaws and the burnt wire, however even if he could locate the jaws in his catalog it would take about 2 weeks to receive it and I would be completely without power for that time. The better solution was to replace the meter can and burnt wire for $2,000.00 but if was his house he would upgrade the wire from the weather head as well $2900.00. If I wanted to include upgrading to a new circuit breaker box $5,800.00 unless I waited until after the first of the year then $6,800.00. He offered me a $400.00 coupon if I went with the $5,800.00 option and acted now. I had not been home to see in person what had happened and the price seemed high so I informed Mister Spark technician I would get another estimate at which time the technician said he would charge me a diagnostic fee of $245.00 to be added to the $190.00 emergency response fee but he was giving me a discount because it should be a $265.00 diagnostic fee. I objected to this as TECO had already diagnosed the problem. The technician billed me for it anyway. After returning home and assessing the job myself I went to the Home Depot where they had the meter can jaws and wire in stock. The cost $65.00, I quickly had the job finished myself and within 1 1/2 hours after calling TECO the power to the house reinstated. The Mister Sparky technician was very good at using every kind of hook and trick in the book in an attempt to take advantage of the situation and I can only imagine how many people have been taken advantage of in the past.

They did have to return a second time to get it repaired. Cost is quit high.

The work was good, but they were expensive. They got the job done in about 2 days and the breaker box was done in one day. The scheduling was great, and very easy to work with them. They electricians were very good and professional.

We needed work done on day Mister Sparky came as new microwave was to be delivered next day. We were told it was not just moving breakers but a new line and plug was needed. This job took about an hour and a half. and we were charged $749.75. leaving $49.75 for parts(estimate) that's about $350/hour for labor. The real problem was that the electrician indicated that they won't do hourly but this job fit into category T-number 8 and that category cost $682 which was added to travel and cost for the appointment. Given our need for the job to be done that day and costs already incurred just for their showing up we agreed.

Jason was nice, smart, and efficient. Not an electrician, I guess I'm in no position to judge, but the whole cost seemed high. Thank goodness I had the Angie's List $59 coupon; it paid for the service call.

When they came out, they just told me what I needed to have done and focus on selling you something versus solving your problem. They are a marketing company first and service company second. They seem knowledgeable and professional but when I got a second opinion on what they advised to have done, I paid a significantly lower price.

The company does not do free estimates. They'll charge you a $59 trip charge. If they do the work, often you can use a free service call coupon to cover the trip charge. The price quote they gave me on the spot was $749, less $59 after I had to go find a coupon online and print it out. I was in a bind and did not have time to price shop, so I paid it. I have since talked with another company, learning it could have been half that. The electrician was very professional and courteous and performed the work in about an hour and a half. I have no problem with the quality of service, but I will not hire them again. I didn't do my homework, and that's my fault. But future business has to be earned, and you won't earn that from me by charging 100% more than your competitors.

The technician was very nice and professional. While I think the work was expensive, he did earn his money. Also, I think the work was well within the cost any other licensed and insured company would have done. He cleaned up after the work, took the old microwave outside so it wouldn't be in the way in my kitchen, and I would definitely use this company again for any electrical work I needed.

The quote they provided me was to put in six individual bulbs but when they finished putting in the six bulbs the cost of the total installation was way higher than the cost of the installation of the six individual bulbs.

Overall he surpassed our expectations.

The electrician was professional and installation went very quickly. Since the house is over 40 years old, he recommended updating the electrical service (at a later date) for our safety.

Serviceman checked the ceiling fan and wall switch to ascertain why it wasn't working. After a thorough check, while we watched, it was determined the motor in the fan was burned out. and we needed to get a new fan. He, then replaced the cfi outlet that was not working and checked the other outlets. We bought a new fan and re-scheduled. Serviceman returned and installed the new fan, We were pleased with his knowledge and skill. Will use Mr. Sparky again.

I thought the cost was little but the service was good. They are polite to work with.
