Mr. Eckert continue to ignore two certified letters and 3 email reminders. He refused to honor his words on reimbursing my repairs that he promised on October 5, 2016.
Description of Work: July 19, 2017 To Whom It May Concern I am writing this letter to file a complaint against Gator Roofing of Bradenton, 2301 9th St. E. Unit 4, Bradenton Florida 34208 owned by Darrell Eckert, for its unethical business practices. Prior to September 2012, my condominium, which is located at 479 Albee Farm Rd, Venice Florida 34285, had a few leaks and was repaired by Mr. Eckert. The roof was about 18 years old at the time with only a few leaks. Mr. Eckert recommended to replace the old roof. On September 2012, I hired his company to perform the roof replacement and paid him nearly $6000 for a brand new roof. Since the new roof was installed, I have had multiple leaks during the last few summers during the rainy seasons. Every time I contacted Mr. Eckert and he always shifted the blame of the leaks to the draining pipe. We have hired several plumbers in the last few years when this issue arose but every plumber that was hired had confirmed that the leaks were not due to the clogged pipes. Instead, it was due to the standing rain water that was sitting on the roof for days or weeks because of the daily rain that we continued to have during summer months in the last few years. It was not an issue during the drought months because the rain water would have evaporated in matter of hours or days. The root cause of the leaks were due to the the roof was not tapered correctly. Every time Mr. Eckert went to investigate the issue, he only performed the patching type repairs, he did not fix the incorrectly tapering issue existed during the installation of the new roof back in September 2012. The roof leak problem returned on numerous occasions in the last few summers since 2012. I have had more leaks since 2012 than my previous 18 years old roof. Last summer when roof leak happened again, I reached out to Mr. Eckert. After numerous phone calls and email exchanges with Mr. Eckert, on October 5, 2016, he responded to my email and requested to have me hire another roofing company to rectify the situation. In addition, he has agreed to reimburse me for the roof and ceiling repairs. Please refer to his email which was including in the letter dated April 26, 2017. On October 10, 2016, we hired All Weather Roofing of Florida to perform the repair on the roof. The total for the invoice was $690. According to the roofer, one of the tasks performed for this repair was “Dried roof off of standing rain water due improper installation whereby roof does not have pitch.” Once again, another expert in the roofing business has confirmed that the leaks were due to the improper installation that performed by Mr. Eckert at Gator Roofing of Bradenton. Please refer to the invoice attached. On March 22, 2017, we hired MEC Contracting Services to repair the damages on the interior that were caused by the roof leaks. The invoice total was $2880. On May 2, 2017, a certified letter along with all the repair invoices were mailed to Mr. Eckert. The letter was signed on May 10, 2017. In the letter, we were only requesting that Mr. Eckert to reimburse for the 100% roof repair ($690) and 50% of the interior repairs ($2880), which I feel is fair. We did not hear from Mr. Eckert for a while. 25 business days later, I have sent him a reminder email on June 1, 2017 which he ignored. On June 15, 2017, I sent him the second follow up email requesting for his immediate attention. Once again, we did not hear from him. After consulting my attorney, on June 14, 2017, I mailed him a second certified letter which was delivered on July 3, 2017, requesting his immediate attention to this matter. Finally, on July 13, 2017, I sent Mr. Eckert a final email requesting him to pay for what he has agreed on October 5, 2016. I have yet to hear from him or receive the reimbursement check. No words can describe my frustration with Gator Roofing of Bradenton Florida. I have spent thousands of dollar in repairs related to the roof leaks since 2012. I have paid him almost $6000 for a brand new roof that has caused me time and money and unhappy tenant. All these could have been avoided if Mr. Eckert would have just fix the root cause of my roof problem by reinstalling the roof with the proper pitch. Rain water would not have continue to accumulate and unable to dry up during the daily rain that we have been getting during the summer months. I just want Mr. Eckert to honor his agreement by paying the 100% roof repair ($690) and 50% of the interior repairs ($2880) so both parties can move on. Troy Lim
