+ 0 moreThough all the reviews I read from Angie's list mentioned dealing with Martin, when someone arrived to give me an estimate from benchmark it was not Martin but Boris. It took a week to finally get the estimate (I thought they had forgotten about me) but I found their estimate to be very workable. After accepting the proposal, they were here within a couple of days (agreeable to me in that I had other work being done). The painters were supposed to start at 8:30, but were here at 8:00 (great). There were 3-4 painters here all day and they finished the whole job by 4:00. Their work was very good, and there was a follow up phone call from Boris within 30 minutes of completion to check on the job. I never did see or meet Martin. The only criticism I have is that the clean up left some mess, but nothing I couldn't handle.
Description of Work: They removed existing wallpaper, patched and prepped the walls and painted the walls in my kitchen and bathroom, as well as the baseboards in the kitchen and the bathroom door.

+ -1 moreFirst met which the project guy told him what I needed got an estimate proceeded well enough, however the devil is in the detail. The job was completed was asked more or less to pay up by someone from the office.I asked wait a minute isn't someone going to go over the job with me to see if I was ok with the work, which I wasn't because they forgot to seal the pavers and the driveway as we discussed. Apparently the project person was away amd didn't communicate to need to follow thru (I assume). The impression I got because of this communication breakdown was that customer satisfaction wasn't important and them getting paid was all it was about. They made excuses like they did not have my cell phone number, but I work every day and most assuredly gave them more than one contact number. Not the "Benchmark" I was hoping for a year later the paint job compared to a similiar paint job is just fair.
Description of Work: Had exterior of house cleaned and painted had asked for driveway and walkway to be done also but representative missed this and since he never followed up after the job was done I never got a chance to ask him why.

Description of Work: Master Bathroom – Demolition - Remove toilet, shower fixture, ceramic tile from shower walls and floor; Carpentry - Install durock (cement boards) on shower walls to ceiling and a single sink base cabinet; Electrical - Install a 6” vapor proof recessed light above shower on a single switch, add a single switch for exhaust fan and replace exhaust fan cover, replace outlet with GFI; Plumbing – Relocate existing water and drain pipes as needed to install new vanity, install new toilet and standard shower fixture and faucet; Finishes - Install 156 square feet of ceramic tile (with grout and sealer) on floor and shower walls to ceiling. Install bath accessories. Prep and paint ceiling, walls and trim. 2. + -1 moreSpoke to Martin over phone initially. E-mailed with questions. Martin scheduled visit to see actual work area and came by second time with foreman for job to show him what needed to be done. Martin helped us choose the moulding and suggested fixes with our two main concerns in the room (not being able to get colors to meet cleanly and overhead cut-off between two rooms).
Description of Work: Crown Moulding for dining/living room area. Fixing our paint job of trying to get two different wall colors on a textured wall to come together in the corner. Cleaned up our other painting "mishaps". They completely protected our furniture. They were very quick, efficient and did not need us to tell them what needed to be done. When they were done, they cleaned up the area and it looked like they were never even there.

+ -1 moreI wanted to get my house painted before I moved in a very short period of time. I found Martin's company on Angies List and called. He came over immediately to provide an estimate which I found to be fair for having approx. 1400 sq ft - no ceilings/closets. He s cheduled me right away. He and his team are extremely professional, punctual, neat, clean and did an excellent job - the house looks like new and they even worked around floors being installed in the bedrooms at the same time. I would highly recommend their work and would definitely use them again. There is a reason they have such a high rating - they deliver quality work at a reasonable price and are very pleasant.
Description of Work: They painted the interior of my home - living rm, dining rm, kitchen, den, master bedroom, second bedroom, 2 bathrooms - all walls, doors and trim. They had 4 different colors. No ceilings or inside closet (my request). They applied 2 coats of high quality paint - it all looks fabulous. The taped and touched up all the walls and trim prior to painting. They cleaned up at the end of the job and it was like they were not even there. Everything swept clean. They always arrived on time and locked up at the end of the day (house was empty).

+ -1 moreMartin was very professional in his assessment of the job. He made an initial estimate and made some valuable suggestions. The revised estimate demonstrated a desire to do the job well. His professionalism and affability contributed to my choosing him from among 4 bidders. Work started on time and the crew was always punctual. Even though the condo was vacant at the time, they left it clean each day. They were extremely neat and exhibited pride in their workmanship. This led to the project taking longer than expected which was not a problem. The overall quality of work was superior. I am hoping to be able to use Benchmark for some additional projects in the future.
Description of Work: First, my apologies for not submitting this sooner. It is a reflection on me, not the contractor. 2 bedroom, 2 bath condo. Work done in entire condo except the kitchen which did not need it at this time. Removal of popcorn ceiling and retexturing. Install crown moldings in bedrooms and hallways. Paint all rooms including sun porch.

The owner of the company came by to look at the house within a couple of days, and we scheduled the appointment within a couple of more days. I was home when the workers started the job, but I had to go out for a while in the afternoon, and I really intended to get home in time to pay for the job before the workers left, but they finished so quickly I didn't make it. Not a problem. They emailed me an invoice. And they did a great job. Our roof is white again.
Description of Work: Pressure cleaned the roof of our one-story house.

+ -1 moreThe estimate was given in a timely manner, and was competitive with another company we called. We decided on Benchmark because we had a good experience with them in 2008 when they did interior work on our home. Although the work was subcontracted out to a window company and a door installer, Martin from Benchmark was available throughout the process to answer any questions or concerns we had. His crew came in to repair and repaint the outside stucco, and stain/paint the exterior doors. The installation took about ten days, as we expected, and everything passed inspection. We only had one problem with water leaking in a sliding door, and they came right away and fixed it. It was a big, expensive job, and we are very happy with our experience...and glad it was finished before hurricane season started!
Description of Work: We had 24 windows, four sliding glass doors as well as our front door and a cabana bath door replaced with hurricane impact windows/doors.

+ -1 moreAs before, Martin and his crew were prompt, responsive, and professional. The work was excellent (and did not require me to hover over them to ensure it was done properly). They did their usual great job of cleaning up after themselves.
Description of Work: Took my own advice and called Benchmark back to paint our former residence (approx.1500 sq feet) as part of sales prep. The work involved a combination of refreshing light-colored walls, painting a neutral color over two rooms with blue walls, and painting the garage.

+ -1 moreMartin was great to work with. He was always punctual, turned the quote around very quickly and did exactly what he said would be done. I am very pleased with the quality of the work. There was one small area that needed a touch up and he took care of it right away. There were some additional touches that were a lovely surprise one of which was he had my laundry room painted which was not on the original quote and for which he did not charge me. I highly recommend Martin and his crew - I will definately be using them again!

+ -1 moreTheir work is exemplary. It sets a standard that other contractors should aim for. The work was carried out without fuss, without mess, and with a positive attitude from the employees. Nothing was ever too much trouble. My hats off to these guys. Only one small criticism - he was slow to respond when I requested some further electrical work. In the end I hired another electrician.
Description of Work: We had Benchmark remove popcorn ceiling. They repainted the ceilings with a smooth finish. Old mirrors were removed. They filled in a pocket door in 1x bedroom and removed a sliding glass door in a 2nd bedroom, which was replaced with drywall. We had an archway constructed. All walls and ceilings were then painted in a choice of color. Minor electrical work was also included in the price.

+ -1 moreWonderful. Martin, the owner, gave a very thorough estimate. Martin arrived on time for the estimate and sent the proposal quickly via email. The foreman on the job was very polite and thorough. The paint job was excellent.
Description of Work: Benchmark powerwashed the roof and house (2300 s.f. ranch). Fixed cracks and prepped the house for painting. Applied two coats of paint to exterior including trim, front door and garage door. Painted outside screen vents and cleaned windows.

+ 2 moreThe paint crew showed up on time, every morning, worked efficiently, cheerfully and without 'drama.' When asked for input, both Martin(the owner)and Endier(the paint crew chief)made excellent recommendations. The work was done well and carefully, with a sense that the job should be done right, not just "done."; and their thorough cleanup at the end of each day even inspired positive comments from my new neighbors. We made various changes and additions as the job progressed, and all were handled both well and without apparent exasperation. Overall, they were a joy to deal with, and I wouldn't hesitate to call on them again. or to recommend them. The only glitch was one subcontractor whose work/work ethic wasn't on a par with that of the rest of the crew. In retrospect, he should have been taken off the job earlier. However, Martin did step up and make well any problems caused(other than loss of time)-no fuss, no argument, just a very professional acceptance of responsibility; and we ended up very satisfied with the result.
Description of Work: Painted interior of 2-story house, incl. areas of faux finish; installed chair rail, interior French doors(in what had been just a wall)mirrored doors; framed bathroom mirrors.
