Benchmark Painting & Carpentry of Boynton Beach, LLC

Everything went extremely well from the the person providing the estimate, to the office staff making sure our deadlines would be met, down to the team of painters showing up on time for three days. Part of the service included a free color consultation with an interior designer and she NAILED the colors for the home and our wall coverings and paintings... which mind you where not in the home yet. We did the test squares as suggested and we thought the colors were too dark, but we didn't change anything. Once the colors were on the walls they were actually lighter than what the test squares made them out to be. This interior designer was so professional we are using her for another small project. The only reason I gave them a "B" for quality it because they missed some areas on our celling and they did not remove a CO2 detector that was plugged in. There was also some small amounts of paint (the size of a pencil tip) in some areas near our walls, all very minor and easily cleaned up. When I paid the final bill I told them about it and they were upset that I didn't call them to clean it up. We will be using Benchmark to paint our exterior with in a year's time and I will not hesitate to recommend them to anyone looking to have paint work preformed.

Started 8:00am sharp on the scheduled start day and was a pleasure to work with throughout.

It went poorly. We scheduled way in advance and on the day the painting was to start one painter showed up. He did not seem well informed, did not know the paint color or any details which we had already given to Jessica and Bob. He said the rest the team would be there "later" and he started the prep. His approach seemed haphazard. Day 2 came, no team, just one painter. On this day he did a combination of prepping and painting. Day 3-still one painter, a bunch of paint in the pool, on the patio furniture that he didn't drape, really just everywhere. I was not able to check on his work during the day, so I didn't see the huge mess until he was gone. On day 4 much the same but he draped the furniture which I pointed out needed done. His approach was still haphazard. Large parts of the trim were not adequately painted. Large sections of the house-some in front and some in the back still were not painted at all. I could see he was trying but overwhelmed. I tried to reach Bob Koepke, who supposedly was in charge of project. When he got back to me after about 4 hours I told him my specific very real concerns. I suggested he come see for himself what condition our (2400 sq. foot-average size) house was in after 4 days. His response was that he had never had any complaints about (this painter) before. I guess that suggests I was mistaken. I definitely was NOT and if he had been involved enough with his job, he would have come to verify it himself. When I asked why a team had not been sent as on previous Benchmark paint jobs we had contracted-he said "all the teams are on other jobs. Jessica scheduled it that way." We scheduled our project way in advance and neither Jessica or Bob said they were giving us reduced service or gave scheduling choices, or extended time expectations for completing the job. Bob not only did NOT come out to see what was happening, worse yet he never followed up to see if things were resolved. Neither did Jessica. Bottom line, I gave the painter a lot of direction myself and told him he better have help and finish the next day. On day 5 a second painter did come and they pretty much finished. After they closed everything up and packed up all their supplies, the initial painter knocked on the door and said. " I'm done, do you want to take a look and make sure it's ok" . Really, after you packed up?This company is a great disappointment. We did have them come back eventually to clean up some of the spills and do things they missed the first 5 days. After all we did pay for it. Will never use them again. I would like to respond to company's response on my poor rating please: I purposely left out the painters name because Benchmark the company that we contracted for this service was responsible for our dissatisfaction as described in my review. Disappointing they threw the painter singularly under the bus. I don't know what changed within the company since we started using them for a variety of services about 3 years ago, but they clearly have changed and lost our confidence. Initial they came out they were on time. When I asked why they wouldn't take the job I got no response. It was a waste of my time and I didn't really understand why they did that, whether the job was too small or it's not what they do. They just kind of came I talked to them, it sounded like okay great they'll give me an estimate and then they didn't take the job. I don't know what happened. I just would have liked them to respond.

They were excellent. Did the job in two days. Workers were very courteous. And very clean. Great job.

Please read entire review prior to booking this company. Feel free to contact me for more info/pics/vids etc. Hired Benchmark to complete a painting job for our new property. Up to this point, we had done all of the rehab in the property ourselves, including re-tiling floors, and completely renovating two bathrooms. We were running short of time to paint the property ourselves, so we decided to hire painters under the assumption that they would be able to get the job done quickly and professionally. This would be by far the most expensive part of the rehab, but we figured it would be money well spent. After meeting with Jim, he assured us that the job would be done professionally and completed within 3-4 days. So far so good. Work started on Tuesday June 9th, so that would give us enough time (we moved in June 13th). The following is a timeline of events. June 9th: Spoke with Kim, who states that the crew will "drop off a couple of people to get started with prepping while the others went to buy the paint." What really happened was a crew of 2 came and applied knockdown texture to one 12x11 bedroom. No other work was completed this day at all. I start to worry about the disconnect between what the company thinks is happening and what is really taking place at the house. June 10th: Crew of 2 completes the texture for the rest of the house. No prepping of the walls done at all. The contractor informs me that there would be no work done the following day, since the knockdown needed a day to dry. I walk around the house to find that our appliances and new baseboards (literally the only things in the entire house) have been covered with the knockdown texture. These items were left in the middle of the living room lined up neatly so they would not take up much space. A simple covering of plastic wrap would have avoided the mess that was left during this process. Also, I find that a texture bucket lid was left stuck to our counter tops and garbage was strewn throughout the house. Pics/vids upon request. June 11th, 10am: I get a call from the contractor saying that he got there at 8am, and nobody has been by to allow access to the property. I immediately head to the house, where I find a crew of 2 waiting for me to get there. I ask him why he told me that he wouldn't be here this day, he states that he needed to finish the texture and that it would still need a day to dry. While I'm confused that it would take 2 hours to get a phone call if they truly did arrive at 8am, I open the doors for them to get to work. I stress that everything must be completed the following day as stated on the contract, and he looks at me as if there's no way that's going to happen. June 12th: My wife and I are both working 12-hour shifts, so we are unable to check up on the work being done. We instead send a friend to the house to observe, and find yet again a crew of 2 completing the work. After numerous phone calls to Kim and Marcelo (contractor), I finally get a call at 7:30pm demanding that someone come to the house immediately to verify that we are satisfied with the work. I explain that it is not possible, since we are both working, and am berated by Marcelo for making them work late in the day to finish the project, pressing them to finish that day. I come to the house that evening to find paint all over our cabinets and new tile floors, and that none of the patchwork had been completed as Jim had previously stated. The entire job just felt rushed and of very poor workmanship. At this point, my wife and I had seen enough, and did not want to have anyone else from this company come to the property to finish the job. We told Marcelo that their job is done, and that we would take up our issues with management. In summary, I feel very displeased with the performance of this company. We trusted that in hiring Benchmark Painting, we would have one part of our project free from worry. What happened was the furthest from that assumption. The painting portion of our rehab was the most stressful, most expensive, and by far the lowest level of quality out of any portion of our rehab. The fact that the workers had such a low level of consideration of our personal property and disregard for our new tile floors by painting all over them was just the icing on the cake. To their credit, they did follow up with me quickly upon receiving my review, but I feel that others should know about my experience so they can avoid this for themselves.

Very pleased from the beginning of the process. Patricia was the person who came out to give me a quote. She was very professional, on-time and excellent with following up. I had a lot going on at the time and was unable to spend the time to decide between the three painters that I got quotes from. Finally I made the decision to go with Benchmark because of the interaction I had with Patricia. The workers showed up on time, were very courteous and did a very good job. The work area was extremely clean when they were finished and I didn't see any paint drippings or excess spray anywhere. I would definitely recommend them to anyone looking to have any painting done to their home.

Benchmark did a fantastic job from the very first telephone conversation until the final invoice was paid. I have a small home in Boca that needed a complete overhaul with painting being just one of the tasks to be completed ...... and I live out of state! Jessica coordinated everything from paint color schemes to timing of work to be done around other contractors to access and entry into my home while I was away. Everything went smoothly without a single problem or shortfall and the quality of the work was excellent, too. Given the competitive pricing for the work completed, I would not hesitate to have Benchmark do work for me in the future and I would not hesitate to recommend this talented and professional group. I wish all of my contractors were as efficient as Benchmark.

We were pleased with the work done and with the communication we received from Bob Koepka and Kim from Benchmark. As new homeowners in Florida, we were a little apprehensive about what kind of service we would receive here from an unknown (to us) contractor. Our concerns were eased when we met Bob and the professionals that Benchmark put to work in our house. Popcorn removal is a messy job and Benchmark subs did an amazing job of keeping everything clean. We really never noticed that they had been in the house. Great job!!

It went well. The provider responded to my request immediately and was professional and true to his word regarding price, install date and product. The installers were polite and cleaned up behind themselves. All in all a very good experience. Would recommend to all.

Patricia was my project coordinator and she was always on time for our appointments. She made good recommendations. As far as the painters, they were wonderful! There was extensive prep work that needed to be done. The crew (Wellington, and Marcos) made sure every area that needed it was sanded, spackled, and primed before painting. The painting itself was done carefully and to our liking. They arrived on time everyday and always left my house clean when they were finished with their work. I have used Benchmark before with excellent results. I tried another company for another job and regretted it. I will always call the company I trust will do excellent work. Thanks Benchmark!

Every room except the kitchen and 2 small bathrooms was painted. They did a beautiful job and cleaned up so carefully that it was cleaner than before they started. I would recommend them without hesitation.

I had an excellent experience with them.

They did a fantastic job. The backsplash looks great! At first the tile did not look good under the breakfast bar so the Benchmark installer called me over to discuss alternatives. He willingly changed the tile so that I am happy with the finished product. The crew was on-time. Benchmark did a great job of making sure the project started on time and was completed to my satisfaction. There was an issue where the countertop did not line up with the cabinet for tiling the backsplash. He brought it to my attention at the very start of the project so that I could address the issue right away. He informed me of the pro's and cons to help me make an informed decision. The ceiling looks great! There was a gap between the ceiling and the cabinet (the cabinet installers were worried about that) so Benchmark filled the gap to make it look good. My project is small so it was difficult to find a good company to take of the project. Benchmark treated me like a big project customer.

It was the greatest job that you could immagine. Martin and his people are responsive, do outstanding work, follow up and I would recomment this company to anyone who needs work done in their home.

Everything about the experience was exceptional. Benchmark estimated the lowest price of all the providers top rated on Angie's List in our area. The crew was punctual, very professional and extremely meticulous. We chose bold colors which aren't very forgiving yet all of the edges and lines look perfect. The quality of the job was beyond what we were hoping for. We would definitely hire them again and recomend them to our friends.

Work quoted....contact signed Price around 2100. Can supply contract. Job to last 3-4 days (average hours 8 hours per day ) Estimator assures me he can fit me into schedule early after asking me when I'd like work done ( I replied as soon as you can like any normal customer would)...estimator states usual 2 week lead time for work to begin but he can accommodate me. I am happy........THEN Sat 3/14 contractor no show Sun 3/15 work begins 3/16 Ceiling under popcorn finish in good repair....called estimator to have contractor just compound scratches made by removal of popcorn and to finish as flat ceiling (that was what I wanted at the beginning and was told I had to get "knockdown" finish. No new taping or compounding necessary. I also asked for reduction in price. Estimator states he will contact contractor to find if he can reduce price. Contractor late by 2 hours-finishes removal/ knock down old closet 3/17 contractor late by 45 minutes. Starts prep and paint 3/18 Contractor late 30 minutes. Finishes ceiling and prepping new door for reduced-size closet. New door for closet due in Thursday. Contactor states he will come around noon next day when door is in 3/19 Contractor no show but calls at end of day to schedule for 8 am Friday Received final bill from Benchmark---WHAT???? 3/20 Contractor shows up , drops off door and tries to install door-wrong size. Contractor leaves for new job. Comes back at 6 (1 hour late) and installs door using 2x4 and joint compound to plaster to close in opening. My idea to fix the issue because contractor wanted to install door incorrectly by "centering" in the middle of the opening and leaving gaps (can supply pictures)----unacceptable to me. Contractor leaves after new door installed. Contractor does not install new baseboard as agreed by estimator. Can supply picture. 3/24 Contacted estimator to see if job price reduced because contractor only worked a total of 18 1/4 hour Estimator emails me with insulting email saying there would be no price reduction (can supply email). 3/26 Bill paid but VERY unhappy with estimator and time spent on job. Contractor did a beautiful job with ceiling and closet door but forgot baseboard replacement Everything I have written was kept in a log and witnessed and all pictures and contract are available upon request.

The painters were punctual and very professional. The problem was that I asked for scrub able paint because I knew the walls would be marked up and scratched. The paint used was spec 500. The same paint used by builders and which comes off the wall if you attempt to clean the wall with cold water and a paper towel. Now I have to pay to have the house repainted. Benchmark responded to this original review and we are currently working this out so that my request for scrubbable paint can be worked out with Benjamin Moore rep.

I actually had to call them because it was taking so long to get the estimate. I am anxious to get this job done but I've had a terrible time getting the ball rolling.

We had always procrastinated on removing the popcorn because we feared the mess and the inconvienience- but it was so easy. They covered everything before removing popcorn ceiling, then cleaned up quickly afterwards. After new ceiling was finished they installed beautiful crown moulding and painted it. They were great painters, did a professional job and didn't try to cut corners like I've seen some painters do. The sales representative and office staff were great and attended to all of our needs. I would hire them again.

The estimator was on-time, and seemed knowledgeable at his job. The office staff was great in keeping me informed of the scheduling and other matters concerning the job. Though the price was the lowest of three bids, I considered it to be way too high, by about 30%. The two man paint crew were timely, very courteous, and did an excellent job, in most areas. Two issues came up that would preclude me from using Benchmark again, without careful monitoring. One, they did not remove any hardware, not even the outlet plates, consequently, anytime that I switch out these items I may have problems lining up the new product, has happened twice already. Second, and most importantly, they DID NOT apply the Benjamin Moore paint within the manufactures specifications. Specifically, they stretched the paint out, applying two VERY thin coats. Consequently, I was left with three gallons of paint left-over, and with a paint job that most likely will not be as wearable and scrubbable as it could have been???????..very disappointing.

Though the price was the lowest of three bids, I still considered it high, by about 30%. Other than the price, everything was perfect. The painter, one man, power-washed, patched, spot primed, caulked, etc.. He then painted and sprayed on two really good coats. Excellent job, very pleased with the outcome. The Estimator and Office Staff were great, kept me informed of each step.

Simply put this company is fantastic. I had them paint the entire interior and exterior of my house and some renovation work including opening up a wall in my living room and remodeling the two access points into one of my upstairs bathrooms. From pricing to scheduling to the execution of the work, Benchmark is top notch. They were always friendly, helpful and professional throughout the entire process. I will continue using them for all of my painting/carpentry jobs and would absolutely recommend them to anyone in need of these types of services.

From start to finish, everyone at Benchmark was incredibly professional and very courteous to us. The crew had quite a messy job to do (sand and paint ceilings in a fully furnished house) and they did a wonderful job. They completed the work on schedule and when they left, everything in our home was very clean and exactly where it was supposed to be. It was like they were never there - except our ceilings and molding looked fabulous. I would highly recommend Steve, Jessica and everyone at Benchmark and will happily use them again. A fantastic service provider!

They were very professional and considerate. The office staff Jessica and Kim, very nice to deal with. Bob Koepka very helpful. The painting crew on time EARLY! That's the way to do it. They painted with care and not a rush job. They put plastic on windows and there were no screw ups. You have to believe that in today's time there are always mess ups, confusion, sloppiness and attitude, but NOT this company. Very commendable. The head painter was Jose Batista, he was on site to make sure what was to be done. He explained everything and pointed areas out of what exactly was going to be done. I was very surprised. Normally its an attitude and not caring but NOT this company. Very different from the rest. Also, when the work was completed Jose Batista walked around with me and inspected the entire job. They did everything that was asked. A week later the office staff sent me a Thank You card. Clearly they took the time to explain everything and stayed in constant communication. For once a company that didn't forget or do a poor job or screw up and come late etc. Thanks BENCHMARK! Would use them again for sure.
