Description of Work: My central air-conditioner had stopped cooling over the week-end. On Monday I changed the filter which wasn't overly dirty but I thought it would help. It did not. When I checked who was on Angie's list , I decided to use a Boynton Beach a/c company because I like to use local business people.

Description of Work: Provided an estimate on replacing a roof mounted all in one 5 ton A/c unit for a house I bought in June 2011 on a short sale. Did not use this company as the estimate was about $500.00 higher then the company i ended up using.

Description of Work: Astro Air Inc came out about a month ago and gave me an estimate for replacement of my AC system.

Description of Work: My whole house air conditioner was not blowing cold air. I checked the obvious things (like the thermostat and fuse box) before attempting to call someone. I called my usual AC guy (Joe Price), and was told that Joe had passed away about 2 weeks ago and that is business was taken over by Astro Air. I contacted Astro Air and described my problem. The girl who answered was very friendly and assuring, telling me that they had been in business over 20 years in the area, and that they have a good rating with the BBB. So, I decided to give them a try. She said that someone would be out within a couple of hours. True to her word, an AC technician arrived approximately 2 hours later. The technician called to tell me he was on his way prior to showing up. He immediately started the "diagnostics". He checked all the indoor components, and then went outside to check there. Upon his return, he told me I needed a dual capacitor and contactor (which was old and pitted). The cost would be $75 for the labor and visit and $405 for the materials. I agreed to the price. My AC unit is 7 years old, and truthfully, I had no idea if this was reasonable or not, but I didn't really have a choice. After the repairs were completed, he brought up the old parts to show them to me. The AC was now blowing cold air. He explained how the AC works and why the parts needed replaced. He left after I paid him. About 30 minutes later, the AC was again blowing warm air! I waited about another 30 minutes to see if this would change back to cool air, but no luck. I called Astro Air again, and the girl told me that someone would be out within a couple of hours. The second technician called before he arrived to tell me that he was on his way. He arrived about 2 1/2 hours after I placed the second call. The second technician went through his diagnostics inside and outside. He returned from outside with the bad news that my fan motor was bad. Now I was really angry since this repair would add another $322 to my bill. I was also angry that the first technician completely missed this problem. The second technician explained to me that the fan motor wasn't failing all the time, just intermittently, so perhaps that's why it was overlooked the first time. Once again, I had no choice but to go ahead if I wanted AC! I authorized the technician to replace the fan motor. While he was working on the job, I called a friend of mine who has an AC business (out of the area). He told me that that price was too high, and that I was getting "ripped off". He said that he would normally charge about $500 for all the work that was done. Right now I was looking at about $800 total! When the technician was finished installing the fan motor, I had him speak to my friend (on speaker phone). He explained all the work that was necessary, and that the costs were set. My friend, once again, stated that he thought the cost was way too high. I paid the additional $322, but I sure wasn't happy about it!

Description of Work: My A/C was not cooling. Mark came and found that the lawn service had ripped out the electrical wires and the unit was low on refrigerant. He checked for leaks and found none. He put Anglo detection dye into the system for further investigation for leaks.
