Description of Work: the worse guy you will ever hire is that guy.
I recently renovated a 4,000+ square foot home in Davie, FL. New flooring was of course a must before we would move in and so I quickly began my search for a professional and reputable installer. I purchased my tile from a well established tile supplier, and ZionStone and Marble was among 10-15 installers that was on that supplier's recommendation list - and it's certainly not so easy to make it onto that list. I went ahead and interviewed over 7 installation companies from the list, all of whom came highly recommended from a number of references. Gilbert with Zion Stone and Marble was an easy choice for me among all the candidates for several reasons. He was patient, nice, honest, explained our options and the timeline for the project, and even offered terrific suggestions for some design aspects of the home. I also reviewed Angie's List for all those I interviewed, and Gilbert by far had the most impressive and consistent positive reviews/feedback. It was clear to me that Gilbert was the right choice for my renovation project. Gilbert and his team are very professional and reliable. I could tell that they made every effort for everything to look as beautiful as possible. What I liked most about Gilbert is is his advanced understanding of the best installation techniques. He's got a lot of experience under his belt and strives for perfection. I'm very meticulous and so I appreciated how meticulously Gilbert approached each phase of the project. His staff worked diligently every day from morning until evening until the project was completed. The demolition was done quickly and thankfully cleaned up quickly too, and it was so exciting to see such real progress on a daily basis. For 25+ days, I witnessed their expertise first hand. Gilbert built a terrific team, all so talented and hard working. From my main flooring, to my bathroom tile, to my kitchen backsplash - I get compliments all the time about how amazing my tile looks across the board. I couldn't be more impressed with the outcome of the entire project. I'm so glad that I went with Gilbert and highly recommend ZionStone and Marble without any reservations. You'll be very happy with a quality work product. If you're looking for a truly professional team for a beautiful installation, then go with Zion Stone and Marble - Gilbert and his team will take excellent care of you.

Gilbert and his crew were outstanding, and the job went as well as I possibly could have hoped. I replaced the tiles because I had many problems (hollowness, tenting, etc.) with my prior tiles, and I wanted a new installation that would look great, be completely solid and not give me any problems. After meeting with several contractors, I hired Gilbert because (a) of the many glowing reviews that I read on Angie's List, and (b) the gut feeling that he left me with was totally consistent with the reviews. Shortly after the work began, it was clear that I had made a great decision. Not only is Gilbert very honest, straight forward and user friendly, but he and his crew are very knowledgeable and professional, and they make every effort to do the job as well as it can be done. As the work progresses, Gilbert discussed with me all of the design decisions and imperfections that needed to be addressed in connection with the floor, and he gave me options and his recommendations as to how to best deal with them. On one or two items, I was inclined to go with options that Gilbert did not think were best, but he pushed-back and convinced me that his recommendation was the way to go. Once the job was complete and I saw he finished product, I knew that Gilbert had been correct, and I was very happy that I had listened to him. After all is said and done, Gilbert and his crew gave me a new floor that looks beautiful and is rock solid. I could not be happier,
Description of Work: Removed existing tile, carpet, baseboards and tac-strips. Installed membrane over slab (cost of $3,400.00 included in $16,125.00) to suppress cracks. Installed, on top of membrane, 24" rectified porcelain tile, using mud set, on area of 1,650 square feet (basically the entire first floor of my house). About 15% of tile (front entryway and two steps) was laid straight, the remaining 85% (sunken area of main house) was laid on the diagonal.

Gilbert was honest, excellent work and finished on time.
Gilbert and his team did an absolutely remarkable job. They were tidy, considering how messy a job it was, courteous and diligent. He is very professional, and did even more than the contract called for. In addition, Gilbert steered us to a marble provider with better quality of the same kind of marble than the prior owner had used and, when asked, offered us the names of other service providers we might need. We obtained two other quotes for the work, and his was the most reasonable. We would gladly use Zion again.
Description of Work: Gilbert and his team removed carpeting and installed marble diagonally over approx 850 sq ft., to extend from the existing marble floor seamlessly into rooms that had been carpeted. This entailed popping out existing marble tiles and selecting new tiles that blended best with the existing marble floor. He also shaved off marble window sills without removing them, so that our new plantation shutters would fit into the window openings better.

Gil was excellent. He gets an 11 on the 1-10 scale. This is the 5th house I have renovated, plus 2 offices. This house I bought was a short sale and the house was a wreck. I have had my share of good and horrible contractors over the last 30 years and Gilbert is the best one yet. His work is meticulous. He is a perfectionist. His price was reasonable too. Also, he saved me a ton of cash on materials. His suppliers were 20-50% less than what I could find on my own and the quality of the materials were excellent. He also did extras and did not charge for them. This was a huge job, I am renovating the entire house. Even my other contractors were impressed with his work. Every floor in my home is 100% level. Hard to find that anywhere, especially here in S FL. The people installing the kitchen were also impressed with his work. The man told me he did not have to shim a single floor cabinet! Gil does a lot of the installing himself and his men are also excellent at what they do. I will be using him next year when I repair/renovate my pool and patio
Description of Work: Gilbert installed 1950 Sq ft of travertine stone, replacing my entire 1st floor. He renovated 4 bathrooms in traverine and marble and today just finished the job with the installation of a custom made medallion for the entrance way of the house

Did not use Zion
Description of Work: Zion came and gave me a quote. Called him back told him he was too high. He came back $200 less. Did not accept his proposal. Called another top rated Angie's list Tile installer. Got it done for over $2000 less and the installer did a great job. Get at least 3 estimates.

I’m sorry that you felt my price was too high. When I offered to lower the price by an additional $200, that really was the best price I could quote you. While I do not claim to be the “cheapest,” my work also reflects that in the quality of the work performed. For a more accurate depiction of my work, please see my other reviews. Thank you, Gilbert.

Zion Stone and Marble (Gilbert) was recommended to us for installation of a limestone floor. That requires especially craftsman like skills. We soon changed to porcelain tile and stayed with Gilbert because we assumed if he can do stone, he can surely do porcelain. To say we were right is a gross understatement. Also, we were doing this remotely. Our home is in Florida, where the work was being done, but we were up north until December. Gilbert was very prompt with his quotes. He never varied from his quote. He is outstanding at communicating and was pro active as well as responsive. This was especially important because we were doing everything remotely. We had a problem with the first tile order. Gilbert and his team had spent a day trying to make the tile work but the tiles were too badly warped to make them work. These are 24x24 tiles laid on a deep mud layer. Gilbert called to explain the situation, took pictures for us so we had something to show the supplier, who took all the tiles back. In the meantime, Gilbert removed all the tiles, and the mud, and kept us informed throughout this unfortunate process. We replaced the tile and it was all installed beautifully. His work was fast, clean, reasonably priced, and top quality. We were also doing some minor construction and Gilbert coordinated directly with our contractor to make the tile installation as seamless as possible. Our entire experience with Zion Stone and Marble was outstanding. They are the very model of professionalism. I have been trying to think of something about the experience that was a negative, and I simply cannot. This is the only company I will ever use for tile and stone installation. I hired a new contractor for bath and kitchen renovations to start in October, 2013, and have already told him that only Zion Stone and Marble can do my tile work. He was not happy, but he agreed.
Description of Work: Zion Stone and Marble installed over 1100 sq. ft of 24x24 tile on a mud base with a very narrow grout line. They also sealed the grout. They removed approx. 370 square feet of tile from our balcony. Tile was removed from the premises, balcony was clean and ready for new installation.

We replaced approximately 1,200 square feet of old porcelain tile in our living room, kitchen, dining room and hallways. The crew was punctual, courteous, and allowed us to live in the house while they completed the job. They took out the old tile and installed marble with 1/32 grout line. All of the tiles were perfectly installed and level. Gilbert expertly dispersed the marble tiles through the space ensuring a random pattern throughout. Gilbert kept me informed as the project progressed and communicated the daily intended workflow.

Please see above. It was an excellent experience with skilled professionals in marble and tile work.
Description of Work: Gilbert Cruz was extremely helpful in the beginning by educating us on different stone types and their pros and cons. We decided on marble for the living areas and kitchen, since it is the most versatile as well as the most beautiful, we believe. He was very patient with us. The installation crew with Gilbert were professionals who were polite, meticulous and fastidious. They thoughtfully moved our furniture and were respectful of our things and our home. His communication with us was excellent as a few minor changes were made here and there to accomodate our sometimes uneven spaces. He found a crack going across our floors which he expertly patched and sealed to prevent any movement in future. Also, their cleanup everyday was really appreciated as well. We coild not have imagined a more professional andsatisfying experience with a contractor.

Wonderful experience! My husband and I were originally going to use a General Contractor (David Orfinger) for this project but after speaking to this gentleman for 5-6 weeks, we still had not received a written estimate. We finally received an email with a Word Document of a cut and pasted contract/proposal that listed the start date as 'March 5th - When we finish.' Every communication with the man was borderline shady and uncomfortable. We decided not to use him and start the search for another tile installer with only a week and a half to spare to coincide with our closing date of our new home. Like most of you, I took to Angie's List and emailed Gilbert at Zion. He called me the next morning. I explained my situation and that I need to get an estimate as soon as possible. He came out to the house the next morning and measured the job. I had a written proposal emailed to me within 24-48 hours. He was very thorough and explained what needed to be done. He also worked with my hectic schedule even though his schedule was pretty booked up. He emailed me videos of how the tile will be installed as well. He and his crew were on time every day and got the job done in the specified time he gave me (1 week). They were tidy, very professional, and courteous. Gilbert even went as far as to send a crew member back when our new appliances were installed on Saturday to lay the tile under the dishwasher to ensure a perfect fit. All in all, it was a wonderful experience. I'll be cleaning dust forever but he's worth every penny :) I would absolutely recommend Zion to my friends and family. I will actually be using them again in the new future to redo my Master Bath shower.

I called Gilbert and he came out to give me an estimate. After reviewing what I wanted done he made some suggestions which I considered and later accepted. We agreed upon a mutually acceptable date to begin the project and he provided me with a detailed written estimate. Gilbert and his crew of two arrived on time and immediately dove right into the project. Each person had a specific task to perform which made it a very orderly process. In all it took two days to complete and the results are outstanding. I am very pleased with the work that was done and will definitely use Gilbert again on other projects. I would highly recommend Zion Marble and Stone to anyone considering have tile installed on flooring or bath.

When Gilbert came to my house to look at the scope of the job, he explained my options regarding thin set and mud set installation, answered my questions and addressed my concerns. I was worried that the tile I purchased was too large, but he reassured me by laying out some tiles. Within a couple of days he provided me with a detailed estimate and a list of references. Gilbert and his crew removed the existing tile and hauled away the debris. The floor was cleaned and the crack membrane installed where necessary. The tile I chose and the large area to be covered posed a challenge, but Gilbert and his crew used all of their skill to achieve a successful outcome. Gilbert was always calm and accommodating, which I very much appreciate. Gilbert and his crew were always punctual, polite and a pleasure to have in my home.
Description of Work: Gilbert and his crew removed and disposed of 916 sq ft of existing tile, prepared the floor for tile installation by covering the cracks with a membrane underlayment, installed 1571 sq ft of 24x24 rectified porcelain tile with a mud set in a straight pattern, grouted and cleaned the floor and sealed all the grout lines. Gilbert also cut down three interior doors and installed new thresholds for all exterior doors. Tile installation areas included the entry, hallways. laundry room, living room, dining room, kitchen, family room and office.

I hired Gilbert and his company after receiving a quote from homedepot which I did not think was reasonable. I called Gilbert and he was able to come by 2 days later to inspect the work areas. He gave me a reasonable quote and he started the following monday. Gilbert and his crew removed the existing tile professionally and thoroughly. They were sure to keep the doors open to ventilate the property as much as possible. The install went great and I was very satisfied with the work Gilbert and his crew provided. Gilbert was not a pushy salesman and he probably could have done a better job being more aggressive but I liked the fact that he was passively confident. This was my first tile project so it was hard to select tiles and design and Gilbert was able to offer constructive feedback and ideas on what would look nice. Gilbert is very honest and straightforward. There were only some minor things that needed fixing but I was confident that if there any major mistakes, he would have done his best to correct them. I would use zion stone and marble again for any future tile projects.
Description of Work: I hired zion stone and marble to install approx 750 sq ft of porcelain tile. The areas consisted of the foyer, kitchen, downstairs cabana bathroom and upstairs guest bathroom. They also did the shower walls in both bathrooms which included a pattern design.

Having worked in the construction industry for many years I could do all of the renovations with the exception of tile work - something I never did before. Gilbert and crew started with applying cork sheets as an underlayment for the floor tiles (required by condo association for noise abatement). The following day they checked the level of the floor which was unlevel in many places. I was using 22" square tiles and after discussion with Gilbert we decided to "float" the floors to make them as level as possible to prevent hills and valleys in the finished floor. Laying the tiles was then pretty straightforward followed by grouting and cleanup. On the final day they applied some wall tile in the bathroom which came out much better then I thought it would. All in all the work was done in a good workmanlike manner and I was quite pleased with the results. Some of my neighbors also commented to me that they found the workers to be be very courteous in passing on the stairways and elevator. I have no reservations in recommending Zion for tile work as they did an excellent job.
Description of Work: Third floor condo in Sunrise, FL built in 1973 that I was completely renovating. I solicited 5 quotes for the floor and wall tile work. Zion was not the cheapest nor most expensive but in reviewing the different contractors for the job it was very obvious to me that they took great pride in their work and approached the quote and job with the highest degree of professionalism compared to the other contractors. I was impressed with Gilberts' (owner of Zion) knowledge of tile work as well as his punctuality and ability to schedule my job rather quickly.
