Allen's Sod Service

Sod was laid down very sloppy, Dirt from trenches for irrigation system was not put back in some of the trenches, the gravel area not as thick or as large as agreed, some pop up sprinkler heads were installed too low, they over estimated the amount of sod needed for the job and installed excess where not really needed, they did not adjust the height of the water utility meter boxes to match the surrounding grade as agreed. I requested them to correct some of these things, but after they did a poor job regarding my request I gave up on them and corrected the remaining problems to the best of my ability.

They did great work. I had some trouble with the man that gave the estimator (Mark). It didn't seem he was really listening to me when I was telling him what we wanted. The quality of the work that was done was very good.

Good, it took a long time but under the circumstances with the rain it went well. They were done rather quickly.

On July 21, 2017, Allen sod gave me an estimate to resod our small backyard. I accepted their price and a week later a crew sprayed grass/weed killer in preparation for the new sod. The yard was soon reduced to dirt. Sod was not laid as of September 10th, when Hurricane Irma came through. Allen’s lost power and said all their sod was under water. I called several time to check on the progress, but as of today, November 7th, they have not contacted me about installing sod. From estimate to present, 15 weeks!!!! On October 25th, I called GREEN SIDE UP sod for an estimate. They come the next day and the sod was laid on the 30th. The sod was freshly cut and is beautiful! From estimate to completion, 3 working days.

The work was completed on time and the final cost was about $80 below the estimate. They were very professional in their workmanship and attitude, and the site was cleaned before they left. The front lawn was destroyed when the home was installed and needed to be sodded. The rest of the lot has a lot of bare spots. I asked about sodding the entire lot and he stated that I should save my money. He suggested that I seed the bare spots and fertilize the lot. I felt he was being honest with me as he could have charged me to sod the entire site.

Very disappointed. They removed sod to be replaced. They did not grad surface before laying new sod, so I have two levels in the yard. I spent $1300 last November. The sod never really took. After spending several months of watering and paying lawn companys to care for the lawn with no success I reached out to Allen's Sod for help. They recommended Avalon South to start spraying the lawn. It only got worse from there. The guy tried killing the torpedo grass and killed a large section of the lawn. I fired him after two months. I asked Allen's sod to come out and look at the lawn. They said email them a picture. to lazy to come and take a look first hand.There response was to put some fertilizer down. What a joke. I just paid there referral for supposedly fertilizing the lawn. I now am faced with replacing the entire lawn. Definitely not having Allen's sod do it. They do not stand behind there product. Buyer beware .

It went very well. They were here when they said they would be and the job was done in a day. They did have to come back to look at some spots that were not doing well and replaced what needed to be. It was not due the the sod being poor we found that our sprinklers needed to be adjusted to hit those spots. It has been almost 2 months now and our yard looks great.

They didn't respond so I ordered from someone else. I installed what I ordered and it's looking great. I wasn't going to leave any review at all but this site is literally harassing me to leave a review. Here it is. The company didn't do anything wrong; they just didn't call me back. So...nothing to report.

Excellent job. My internet went down while they were laying the sod and I knew what happened. They had cut a line installing the irrigation. I didn't say anything and very quickly received a call from their office informing what had happened and that Century link would be out shortly to repair at their cost. I was very impressed with them taking ownership and correcting the situation so quickly. They had to come out one more time to adjust a couple of springler heads and replaced a few pieces of sod. It was done very quickly. I am getting a number of positive comments on how great my yard looks and am very happy with it so far. I feel that the springler system is a real important part to have a nice looking yard. Price was reasonable. Communication excellent. Would use again. Everyone was very professional. Couldn't be happier.

I couldn't be more pleased with the service I received. I called several companies and Allen's was the only one that had a person answer the phone as opposed to an answering machine. They were also the only ones who called me back to set up a time for an estimate. I never received a call back from the other 2 companies......their loss!! Every time that I emailed Mark, he was prompt to answer my emails and answer my many questions. He constantly kept in touch as to the time frame of when things would happen. The day of installation there were several courteous, hard working men that showed up and performed the work. The man who was in charge of the crew that laid the sod was very thorough in his instructions on how to care for my new lawn and answered my questions. They were very quick and efficient and yet did an excellent job. The estimated that I was quoted was spot on....no extra, unexpected charges. I would not hesitate to recommend this company to anyone needing their services.

They did a great job. Our yard looks great. When we called them the first time they were the only company that we didnt get an answering machine. A person answered the first call. Everyones prices were the same but they answered so they got the job. We are happy with the results.

Have not had an opportunity to use them again, but was very satisfied with what they did. Prompt, efficient, professional. Thought my price for both the mulch and sprinklers was reasonable. A family owned business. Would not hesitate to use them again.

We gave this co. a glowing review shortly after the sod was done in early April. BIG MISTAKE! The following a shortened version of what happened afterward. --- Everything took so long, as we were so often told, "Someone will call you this afternoon or first thing in the morning." Usually, no one did. We had to be persistent. The lawn soon started dying and it took a long time for someone to come and look at it. The dying cause was a mystery, and there were many kinds of weeds, mostly crabgrass. Another lawn they had done at the same time was dying too. Allen's had someone come out and spray, then nearly everything died. (I just don't remember how many times some area of the lawn was replaced. This has gone on for so many months!) But, all the new stuff was mostly crabgrass, and was replaced too. At one point, they ran out of sod and had to come back another day. That may have been because, by the time they came, more of the old sod had to be removed. All that replacing resulted in a lumpy yard. We were told it will eventually level out. The whole lawn very quickly filled with more crabgrass. I suppose it was because of all the seed that was in there. Two men came on 2 days and pulled out wheelbarrows full of crabgrass. There were lots of bare, dead spots in the yard. We were told that would fill in. It hasn't yet. Those spots are more susceptible to weeds, and grass is not filling in. We do not understand why Allen's kept using sod from the same sod farm!!! We are 78 and 80 years old. We've given up trying to keep up with most of the weed pulling and are now concentrating on trying to keep ahead of the crabgrass. That seems to be something that will take over the centipede grass. Hopefully, when the weather cools, a professional can eliminate the other weeds. This is not our first sod lawn. We have never had results such as this!! The people at Allen's have always been pleasant when talking with us, and I know they have tried hard. (We have always been pleasant too). You'd never find a harder working, more pleasant crew. But, Allen's does not return my phone calls or respond to my e-mails now. It is very sad to see all the money and time spent, and have such an awful looking lawn.

I ordered sod and was told it would be deliveried the following Wednesday and when I checked the Tuesday before the delivery day, I was told it would be Thursday instead. I had ordered equipment for the installing of the sod and had to change everything. If I hadn't called I would have been set behind a day.

Couldn't be happier and the price was so reasonable. Second time I've hired them.

The young men came to the door, introduced themselves and asked what particular lawn care I wanted. The yard is clean and neat and I'm planning to have extra landscaping in the spring.

All around the company was extremely easy to work with. Responded promptly to my initial call. Provided an estimate within approx. 48 hrs. My contact at the office was Rena. She was always pleasant and when we ran into an unexpected "snag", (not Allen's fault) she stayed patient and professional and kept me informed of everything that was going on. During the sod installation the installer (and I am sorry that I don't know his name) took time to explain watering, mowing, fertilizing etc. of the new grass.

There was good communication, they showed up on time. They worked in the rain to finish the job. Very courteous and when there was a small issue a few weeks after the job was finished...they stood behind their work and corrected the problem. I would use them again.

They did an excellent job. Sprayed dead area of yard to kill roots. Came back about 2 weeks later to put down sod. Came with several vehicles and a big crew, got the job done in about twenty to thirty minutes. Only complaint was we were charged 3% for using a credit card. We were so happy with them we have already called them to come out and repair our sprinkler system.
