Pls take the time to read, its worth your time and save you alot of pain taking in my project for consideration... 1. THE SLAB... a. Slab had deviations of ~1-2+ inch dips in center of slab while a 4' level is resting flat in front of entry for from house... b. Slab has 3' walkway surrounding screen room on the outside, the slab was not graded properly and water drains INTO the screen room vice off the slab... Very problematic... They offered a solution to additional overhead on the slab to keep rain off slab but only on one of the three sides holding water... c. Loads of organic material (leaves and pine needles) were floated into the concrete and are surfacing like a fossil record... d. Texture contracted was "smooth"... Its smooth in some areas, others its pitted, brushed, smooshed, etc... Even have a permanent boot print in the concrete to remember my contractors... e. Cracking... Normally concrete will crack as it dries, however it has cracked at the control lines and ~15 other places to date to include ~4 cracks end to end currently 1/16" in width... I attribute this to not tamping the dirt nor or applying a sudgrade of crushed gravel prior to pour... They loosened the dirt ~6"+ over the entire slab to level it and poured fright on top loose dirt... How much it will settle remains to be seen... f. Last complaint on the slab is when the concrete was poured it was splashed all over the back of my house over ~40' up to four feet high splashes... Was told by the contractor that "it happens when pouring a slab against the home"... I suggested they could have placed a plastic sheet to avoid this and was told i can just touch it up... 2. THE SIDEWALK.... a. ~80' of sidewalk from front of home around rear was contracted... During framing i measured the widths... Some were ~31" wide all the way up to ~42" wide, an ~10"+ variance in width, crazy right?... It looked like Dr. Seuss framed it out... Additionally it was not consistent with the existing sidewalk adjacent the driveway... The entire sidewalk was framed out to sit completely above ground, on top of the grass? I was told that I was the first person ever to ask for the side walk surface to be near ground level... Side note, I have never seen a sidewalk that wasn't level with the grass, additionally I've never seen a sidewalk sitting 4" high top of the ground... So they reluctantly came back out dug out the sidewalk framed it properly (36" wide) and leveled it properly... The dried sidewalk pour has boot prints, dozens of leaves and pine needles smoothing into the concrete... Dozens of areas where the concrete is riddleed with pitting holes larger than my thumb, some larger, and organic material surfacing and chipping away the surface in many area... The edges of the sidewalk were not troweled and for lack of a better word look like garbage... The control lines cut in are crooked, spaced unevenly, some ~40" and others over ~70" a HUGE difference in balance and easy to avoid if you use a tape measure... 3. THE SCREENROOM BUILD... a. This was almost a first try successful part of the project, but the ceiling leaked in 8+ areas and also failed the city inspection for two inspector identified... The roof was resealed, and it did eventually pass city inspection after corrections were made... (gutters not draining proper areas and missing screws in key areas) 4. ROOF AND FLASHING... a. Mind you this is a roofing company... Per quote roofing material was to be "REMOVED AND REPLACED" with a flashing installed and NEW matching shingles to be installed where they were removed to install flashing... This didn't happen... The roofers installed the flashing OVER my existing shingles... They shoved the flashing under the 2nd row of existing shingles, then reused my shingles they pulled up by slopping tar on them to help them "re-stick"... One single row of new shingles was placed on the leading edge of the flashing and roof but nothing was removed as they said and should have been... To be clear the entire area where flashing was to be installed was to be removed per the contract, that never happened, and those loosened shingles were never replaced as quoted... The contractor refused to address this issue completely... SUMMARY... I have a screenroom that water seeps into via the reverse grade when it rains, the slab is cracking in every section to include the control lines... The sidewalk has large pits the entire 80' run, the edges the entire run are all imaginable shapes and sizes except smooth they way it was contracted... They covered up the open sun area with additional aluminum roofing I had designed on one side because the slab was holding water so bad in the open area... The impact of this was closing sunlight off to my one master bedroom window which is now a dungeon 24/7 so that they could keep water off one side on the slab, and threw it in my face as "free work" and expense that I got for free? OF NOTE: Their other option was to remove and replace the entire slab, so i thinks more like i did them a favor and saved them thousands in rework costs... Yet they still want full price? They modified the project so much because of the slab failure, the work permit had to be changed with the city before it could be reinspected... MOST IMPORTANTLY.... After work completion I offered Merritt Roofing the following reasonable offer due the significant workmanship and basic function flaws most notably in the concrete work; 1. FULL ASKING PRICE of $7960 for the screenroom, even though there were leaking issues, and it failed city inspection, later corrected, 2. HALF ASKING PRICE of $500 for the roofing work because it was not completed as the written quote described most notably NOTHING was removed from my roof, they reused everything... Additionally it was not addressed or offered as correction, therefore i offered half.... 3. MATERIALS COST ONLY (NO LABOR) for the concrete work as the slab is very poorly constructed noted by all facets, cracking, pitting, flaking, SIGNIFICANT visible dips of 2", and most importantly flooding due to improper grading... This is not remotely close to professional work or any reasonable expectation of a major home addition foundation... Utter fail... Now I am a VA disabled, 24 year active duty now retired combat veteran of Iraq, Afghanistan, and Persian Gulf Operations... I presented Merritt with dozens of respectful and professional photos, written e-mails, measurements and visual photo aids/refrences to the project manger as the problems began to surface... I felt as though I was talked to and treated as though i was attempting to shake them down and get free work, NOT THE CASE... I attempted negotiation for 2 weeks via email to no avail, they refused to reduce the price of the concrete to materials only even though they admittedly said it was very poor work and instead offered a ~8% price reduction ONLY that does not come remotely close to the labor cost of the concrete which in my opinion was not earned and I'm defiantly not happy with (there are boot print in the concrete among many other issues)... I wanted to pay Merritt full price for the work that was done correctly and labor only removed from the quote on the concrete which i believe is fair given it hardly serves its basic function to keep water off and looks like a bad amateur performed the work... VERY, VERY DISAPPOINTED IN MERRITT. MORE SO FOR THEIR FAILURE COMPENSATE THE CLIENT FOR THEIR MATERIAL FAILURES THAN FOR THEIR FAILED CONCRETE WORK... I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIER REDUCED PRICES FOR REDUCED QUALITY... ENTER INTO AGREEMENT AT YOUR OWN RISK... MERRITT WAS PAID IN FULL WITH CASH ON 31 OCT 2016 AS ADVISED BY LAW NOT TO WITHHOLD PAYMENT SO MERRITT DOESN'T PUT A LEIN ON MY HOME... AGAIN USE AT YOUR OWMN RISK!!!

Showed up on time to install gutters. Gutters were installed. Nails were left behind on the driveway. Brackets were not installed properly (crooked). At the first rainfall leaks were observed in the gutters. The company was contacted when the above was observed. They promised to return to correct the problems. They did not return. We made several follow-up phone calls that were ignored. The sales representative finally returned to fix the problem. However, at the next rainfall the gutters stilled leaked. The sales rep promises to come out again. We would not recommend this company. for gutters.

Description of Work: Put the roof on the new home I was building at that time . It was actually in 2010. When I went to put rain gutters and downspouts on the house this year they found areas of rotten wood that had to be replaced before the gutters could be installed . Contacted Merritt and after 2 weeks of looking for the paperwork they were scheduled to come out and inspect my complaint. They never showed up and did not answer the phone when I tried to call. I ended up paying another roofer to come in and repair the damaged areas and correct the shoddy workmanship that caused the leaks. I have heard since that they are out of business, not really a surprise given their attitude.
