Word of Mouth Tree Service

Perry of Word of Mouth Tree Service gave me an estimate on trimming several low hanging branches from two large trees. He explained why, in my case, cutting at the thicker part of the branches next to the trunk wouldn't be a good idea, and after listening to his reasons, I agreed. He and his crew trimmed the trees, were through in an hour, and left my place in tidy order. And, there are no more branches hanging over the fence into my yard and brushing against my home. I asked Perry for another estimate to remove plants and vegetation and he'll get back to me on that job. Word of Mouth is now my only tree service.

After a long delay ( several days) after calling, I finally received a phone call to set up an appointment for them to come out and look my trees. They never showed up for the appointment and I never heard from them again. I guess they have too much business.

Perry and his crew are GREAT. Perry came out to give the estimate, listened to what I wanted, made a couple of suggestions, and diagnosed a problem on one of my trees that I was not having trimmed -- not for him to do anything about it, just to tell me. My regular lawn and shrub service had never been able to tell me what the problem was. He knows trees. On the scheduled day, his crew came out with their ladders, truck bucket and grinder and with 3-4 of them working tackled the oak tree and two big elms that needed major trimming. Two were from my neighbor's yard spreading way into mine and over my roof. The crew leader knew what I expected and each time they finished a tree, asked me to come out and inspect to make sure it was trimmed the way I wanted. As they trimmed, they put the branches into the grinder and before they left, everything was cleaned up, raked, driveway blown, as if nothing had happened. They did a marvelous job of shaping the trees, even though they needed major trimming. What's amazing is not only the excellent job they did, but that they were finished in about an hour.I HIGHLY recommend them. Excellent all the way around and the price was more than fair for all the work they did. I was so happy that I gave them a significant tip. They deserved it.

Overall, it went very well. We've used Word of Mouth before and will use them again. We got the quote promptly, but it took several weeks to schedule the work, which was ok since it wasn't an emergency. They came when they said, and the work was completed in 1 day. They cleaned up very well after the trees were down. My only negative comment is that the stump grinding on the 2 smaller stumps left large hunks of the stumps in place. I expected these stumps to be completed ground, as was the larger stump. If I ever decide to plant new trees in those spots, I'll have to hire another stump grinder to repeat the work. Otherwise, it was another good experience with Word of Mouth and I will continue to recommend them.

I called for an estimate for the removal of a dead palm tree, about 30 feet tall. I was not home at the time so Perry left it tucked in the front door. I called to accept the estimate and set up an appt and received a message back that I would be placed on the schedule for the following week (probably Thur or Fri). I called on Thur and was told they would come on Fri about 8:30 am. At 8:30 sharp the crew arrived and started working immediately. Within 40 minutes the palm was cut down and completely ground up. The stump was reduced to a flat circular bed of mulch. I also had another smaller palm tree trimmed at the same time. That cost an additional $20. All members of the crew were professionally dressed, epuipped with hard hats and protective eyewear and obviously knew what they were doing, and they cleaned up everything before they left. I have used this company in the past for tree work and will continue to do so. They do a superb job at a fair price.

I called Word of Mouth for an estimate to trim oak trees on my property. Perry called me back promptly and scheduled to come out on a Thursday at 5:00pm. I made sure I was home to meet him, but he never showed. He called the next morning, apologized, and said he had gone home sick, fallen asleep and did not wake up till the next day. He asked if he could come out for the estimate on Monday evening. I said ok. He never showed up for this second appointment, and never called to apologize or reschedule. My belief has always been that if you cannot rely on a company to show up to try to earn your business, the odds are pretty high you will have problems once its time to get the work done. Obviously, I will not be calling Word of Mouth to trim any trees. I have read Perry's response below re the misunderstanding. Although I do not recall it that way, I suppose that is what a misunderstanding is all about. I decided to change my grade from an F to a D based on that and the fact that an F is a pretty harsh grade to give someone based solely on an estimate.

They came and worked from 0215 until 0530 , cleaned up and hauled off 2 large trailers of trees.

My wife had called Word of Mouth and was initially contacted back quickly. The person we spoke with was very helpful and polite. She explained the work we were looking to have done. He provided an estimate and said he would call back the next week to arrange a day to come out and perform the service. The next week passed and we were not contacted. Two weeks later, both my wife and I left messages for him to contact us to arrange for service, but both calls went unanswered. This was pretty disappointing since he came so highly recommended from Angie's List. ============================================================ This is in response to Word of Mouth's reply on April 21. I doubled checked my records to verify that this is indeed the company we dealt with. The phone number matches what we have in our records and the person we spoke with identified himself as Perry. The account might be listed under my wife's name, since she was the person who initially contacted the company. No work has been done so far and we have not received any calls back to schedule any work (which is my initial complaint in the feedback). From my phone records: 4/2/12 - Contacted word of mouth to ask for estimate 4/2/12 (10:30 AM) - Someone from word of mouth, who identified himself as Perry left a message for my wife 4/3/12 (10:37 AM) - Got in contact with Perry and he asked if he could call back later 4/3/12 (3:47 PM) - Talked to Perry and got estimate for job. He said he could come out and do the tree service but he would not be able to get there until the following week. 4/16/12 (9:07 AM) - Called and left a message to follow up on scheduling service. Never received a response back from the company. 4/17/12 (12:32 PM) - Called and did not leave message. Phone records can be provided if necessary.

I called the compamny after reading the Angies list report. I wasn't home when the man came out to look at what I wanted done but he called me at work when he was in my back yard and we went over what I needed. After he gave me the price I told him ok, and the next day by noon time everyting was done and no debris very neat and clean. I never met him, it just so happened that my wife was home that day and paid him, otherwise he said I could have mailed him a check. Can't ask for better service, honesty, and rates.

Great job!! Gave good estimate-was on job site early am. Punctual job- did a little extra staff i ask for.

The work was done in an efficient manner and came out much better than I expected. I was very pleased.

It's always a little disappointing when a well-rated Angie's List provider fails to deliver. Perhaps they were busy and had a hard time keeping up with phone calls. But, overall, I was not impressed with their handling of my calls.

Excellent contractor. Very professional, showed up on time, performed work as outlined, cleaned up after the job.

Of the three bids I got for this job, Perry's was lowest, but what really sold me was his use of a little green laser-pointer to very clearly confirm where he recommended cutting. With the other guys it was surprisingly difficult to be sure that we were talking about the same branches, etc. The only frustration I had was that they were so booked up due to the storm damage to trees in the area that they had to delay their start time by a week. One of the damaged limbs fell during the week's delay, and I had to saw it up myself. But Perry knocked off $200 from the bill (the original quote was $1,000) and was happy to take the pieces I had cut up and feed them into the chipper. They showed up precisely when promised and finished the whole job in about 3 hours. Everyone on the team was courteous and professional.

Perry's team arrived right on time in the morning. they could not have been more courteous and professional. They went above and beyond my expectations not only removing the requested branches but taking the time and effort to balance out the trees but making additional cuts. Clean up was every bit as professional as the cutting. they were complete in less than three hours. Update 04/14; Its a shame that as contractors become widely know via Angie's List that some appear to be overwhelmed by the flood of requests for service. I have had several contractors of different skill sets either not return phone calls, promise to return phone calls, set appointments and not show up or worse case I've had one contractor who gave me a bid that was so ridiculously high I can only assume that it was intended to send me to someone else.

This was the second time I have used this service and they are fantastic. The pricing is competitive and the are prompt, courteous and provided many helpful suggestions about how and what to trim/clean-up.

Approximately two years ago, I had the same tree trimmed by another company for $325.00. That company did a poor job compared to Word of Mouth. I will use them again.

Prompt & professional. Arrived at 1700, talked over with me the basics he'd do to make the trees look good, stay healthy and weather the storms. Provided a good estimate and potential timeline.

He came when said he would. He gave a price quote that was right on and included the stump grinding. He cleaned up every bit of debris.

Excellent service, friendly and offered sound advise. I called for a quote and they showed up the same day. The quote was low compared with what I have seen from other tree companies in the past. They cleaned after removing the trees, no damage and everything was done as discussed. Will use them again in the future.

They were the most affordable company. Most other companies quoted about $1000, and they were about $500 for the same job. We had a big limb fall, so I called them back to do some work on that area, and they were accommodating.

After speaking with my neighbor about removing a couple of branches hanging over his yard, and after he suggested Word of Mouth Tree Service, I decided to call Perry for an estimate for much more work. After some research, I asked Perry to proceed with the job. The work crew arrived on time and did a great job. They worked hard and worked constantly, despite the fact that the day they arrived might be the hottest and most humid day of 2010. After a few hours of tree work, the crew did a great job clearing the yard of debris. I will definitely call them back in the future.
