It went horrible. The worst paint job ever in 10 years as a general contractor. They painted the entire place eggshell, not white, but eggshell. Eggshell shows all the mistakes and shows all the imperfections. You can not hid bad painting with eggshell. So needless to say we brought Mr. Burke out to the job when he said they were all finished and showed him what his finished job looked like. We pointed out the massive caulking in the corners and smeared caulk along the walls and trim, showed him the runs and drips all over the walls, show him how the white was bleeding through in places through the eggshell, showed him how they never sanded the walls or trim and how rough they were. Showed him how his painters came in and did sloppy work and how they didn't address any of our concerns or expectations we laid out in the beginning. Mr. Burke didn't want to hear it and in so many words told us that this is what you paid for, I didn't charge you for a top notch job, I can't help you, I won't fix it, and he just took our deposit money and left. So I along with my business partner spent the entire weekend sanding walls, sanding trim, and digging out caulk to prep for a new painter to fix the horrible job Mr. Burke and his company did. Burke Painting & Coatings from Wilmington and Lewes, actually did more damage to our new construction place and cost us a lot more money. RUN from Burke Painting & Coatings. I have pictures and video to show what their finished product looks like. It's horrible.
Description of Work: We hired Burke Painting & Coatings to fix what another painted messed up. We had the owner Robert Burke meet us at our house to look at painting 500 sq ft garage apartment addition we just constructed. He has a office in Wilmington and Lewes. We explained our expectations and what we didn't like that the last painter did. We just wanted them to come in and sand the walls and trim, and paint the walls a flat white and paint the trim and doors a semi gloss white. Easy job.

He was on time but once had to cancel. He called far enough in advance that it wasn't a problem. The work has not yet been done because we haven't been able to be at home long enough. I was satisfied with his support and the promptness of his estimate and his professionalism. I'll give another evaluation when the work is done.
Description of Work: The work done so far was evaluating the house for a complete interior painting.

The job went very well. Robert and his crew of 2 men were here on time every day, and worked in a professional manner. They moved furniture carefully and were very willing to help me with issues that came up during the job. The quality of the work was also good, as they paid attention to detail and special requests. I would use this company again, and would recommend it to others.
Description of Work: painted the interior of my home, which consisted of 4 bedrooms (and closets), living room, dining room, 2 hallways and foyer, kitchen, eating area, laundry room and powder room. Removed wallpaper from dining room, kitchen, eating area and powder room.

(member name removed) is very organized with everything she does, she was great to work for! Customers should realize, like (member name removed)does, that quality of the job counts and the job is more than just painting. Doing a large interior repaint such as this one or even a small one needs to be organized and communication is a must with the homeowner! We have a system we like to follow and it seems to work pretty well as long as the homeowner is on board also. We like to get started by asking that all small items be removed from the rooms and pictures marked if they are not going to be put back up. If you have an item that was brought over from the old country and is the most valuable thing in your life you should tell us and we will protect it with our lives! lol, Communication is everything, and we all speak English very well! I will put a painting plan together so you will know what rooms we will be doing and when we will be doing them, no surprises! This makes your life easier when it comes to bedrooms, kitchens and baths. We also cover everything so during the day your kitchen cabinets may be covered for the day making it a little harder to eat lunch, a good time to eat out! Do you have to stay home all day or take time off from work for us to paint? No! I have been painting houses since 1980 and we have NEVER had a problem, knock on wood. I joke and say "we don't want your stuff, we have our own stuff" I am not hiring criminals to paint, I don't like them either. I want to hire good people who care about others and show everyone respect. I work with my painters and I do not want to work with bums! I am 58 years old and want to have a pleasant stress free day when I go to work. I never want to put too many painters in your house, it turns into a zoo. We put 3 painters in you house at the max. If you need it finished quicker we can do it but I feel the quality suffers sometimes. We do a lot of prep work, we will check your walls for spackle work and repair as needed and lightly sand all walls and trim. We will caulk your trim to fill cracks, we will do what it takes to have a good surface to apply our top coats. We always apply two finish coats, yeah I know the other painter said one coat would do it, he's a lot smarter than me. We put two coats on for a consistent color, durability and a nicer sheen. He is bidding the job low to get it. I know every trick in the industry and have seen it all from a great paint job to a paint job I can't imagine paying for. If you are looking for the lowest bid, If you are looking for a quick fix to sell or if you don't give darn about the job please do not call us! If you care about quality and great products, quality painters with great communication and a overall safe feeling that the job will be handled right then give us a call and I can discuss your painting project.

There was one thing that left us unsettled. We just got the floors done and he stepped on a screw on the stairs and scratched the floor. My husband pointed it out to him and he agreed he stepped on it, and left it at that. Based on other services he said he did, we were surprised that he didn't offer any further help especially since we just had the floors done and he knew that.
Description of Work: We had to have the inside window sills painted. Based on the homes inspection, they noticed flaking lead paint. We weren't sure if we were going to get it abated or remediated and since we were on a tight budget we wanted to go with someone fairly inexpensive. He came out and painted the window sills and he did what he said he would do.

I was not the only one in the house at the time of our work being performed. I showed your husband the scratch on the steps, if I felt I had done it, I certainly would have corrected it. Nothing was discussed about it after I showed it to him. Many things can happen in a customers home during any project and the best way to avoid these type issues is to work out the proper order for the work to be accomplished, don't do your floors first and if an issue arises be sure to tell the contractor!

We hired Robert to paint the interior of our newly purchased 73 year old home. We knew that the job would be pricey because of the extent of the repaint and because we had small areas of pealing lead paint. Robert made us feel very comfortable from the moment he met us. He carefully went through the details of the proposed job and explained what it would entail. He even helped us choose colors. His crew was professional and curteous. He and his crew did a fabulous job on the interior of our home. It looked like a completely different home. Everything is so beautiful and we are very happy with the job. If we ever decide to do more painting, we will certainly call Burke Painting.

Description of Work: Entire interior of house including closets plus garage and installed chair rail.. LR, DR, Kitchen, Breakfast Area, Family Room, Foyer, Staircase, Hall, 4 BR's, 2 1/2 baths, closets. Robert and his 2 painters transformed this house from all white to beautiful neutrals and a couple of stunningly bright colors. The garage had significant cracks that he repaired in addition to nail pops and the painting. I had colors narrowed down in most of the rooms and Robert told me which of the finalists would be the best. Each time he was correct. Tip: Prior to starting, I painted a small area with colors being considered on each wall and wrote their corresponding numbers on the walls. Two of the rooms -- I had little success in my trials. Robert suggested the colors for these rooms after asking me some questions. They are perfect! Robert and his painters were very professional. The painters were pleasant, worked continuously and were a pleasure to have in the house. They came at the appointed times. At the end of each day, the painters replaced all furniture that could be replaced from that day and asked me if there was anything more they could do before leaving. Robert personally hung my new drapes. Robert Burke is a very talented gentleman with a keen sense of color. Painting is his profession, not his job. Who would ever think one could spend enjoyable time just looking at walls? This possibility had never occurred to me until the days after Burke Painting transformed my house. Tip for people unaccustomed to having large jobs of this nature done: There were several service organizations in my home during the time of the painting. I had no idea of the magnitude of the multiple projects. If you have many objects moved to accommodate the service, l. Use your cell phone to take pictures of everything as it was before the work began or your digital camera. 2. Show the workers/painters what you want returned to its original place and what you want to not be returned. This is especially important when considering holes in your walls. 3. When the work is completed, refer to each picture so that the service people can be advised exactly what to place in the desired location. Example: Include pics of all your wiring of electrical equipment that will need to be plugged in afterwards. Unfortunately, I did not think of this to the level of wiring until after all the work was completed (painting plus carpet installers and cleaners). Now I have no idea where the exercise bike power pack can be found and several other pieces of equipment are also unplugged. It appears I will be purchasing a new power pack for the bike. 4. Do not be too exhausted the final day of the work to do this meticulous work - even to the point of asking for a day off before the completion is done.

Rob and his team which included two other guys came in and knocked the whole job out in almost 2 days. They were gone by Noon on the third day. I HIGHLY recommend Rob for any painting job you may need. He is really a class act and his team is nothing but professional. I gave him a temporary security code to my house for the couple days he was planning to be on the job and not once did I ever have a problem or concern about him being there while I was away. If any questions arose he was quick to give me a call and explain things or his concerns.. even if it was just his opinion on a color he thought might not look good where it was planned to go. He really takes pride in his work and the same goes for the guys working around him. He was almost excited as us when showing off the new dining room paint with the chair rail. The cut in lines were beautiful. There is no doubt that I plan to use Rob again for my finished basement later this year. Just waiting on a estimate as we speak. Thanks again Rob! -Steve H.
Description of Work: Rob and his team Painted almost the entire 1st and 2nd floor of my 3600sq/ft house. 2 story foyer + Ceilings, up and downstairs hallways + ceilings, 2 story family room with vaulted ceilings, living room and dining room (which has the two colors with chair rail), Ceiling in the Kitchen which include applying Kilz to cover up grease stains from the last home owners, Master bedroom and ceiling.

WEnt well and I would hire Robert Burke painting again.
Description of Work: Robert Burke and helpers helped with preparing a home we were selling and totally painted our new home purchase. Robert was responsive to our needs, was where he said he would be when he said he would be there. The work was done in a pleasant and professional way. His men were very thoughtful and the work turned out beautifully. I would strongly recommend Robert Burke painting. All costs were discussed in detail and a written estimate was presented before work was done. Any changes were discussed and I was allowed to make the final decision. Nice work, nice people.

Robert was very knowledgeable, enthusiastic and willing to give his opinions, both at the estimate and during the whole process. At my request, he assisted me in finalizing my color choices. He came with a team of two additional painters and they worked their way through all the rooms. He was very good about keeping in touch with me as the painting progressed to make sure I still liked what I had chosen. They were all very punctual, considerate of my family and our things, and did a nice job of keeping everything clean. The project took about a week in total and I am very pleased with the results.

We had 3 other painters give us a quote besides Robert (so a total of 4 quotes). 2 out of the 3 were significantly more expensive than Robert. The third quote admitted he would not be able to do what I wanted so even though his quote was less, I was not really able to consider it. We did not pick Robert because of his pricing alone but also because of his reaction to what I wanted which was stripes on the ceiling. The other quotes I received were not very enthusiastic about the idea. Robert's first response was excitement and total support which was a huge relief. It also told me that he loves his job and takes great pride in what he does. He was an easy choice! The nursery was finished in one day - which I was not expecting at all. Robert knew my baby shower was approaching and that I wanted the project finished before then but I was not expecting it be completed in one day - so that was an astonishing surprise! The finished product is stunning. We are very happy with it. The dresser took only a couple of days and even that was returned before I expected it. As requested he matched the paint from our crib to the dresser. He even made a small repair to a faulty drawer for a small fee. The finished product is great - you would think the crib and dresser were purchased together as a matching set. Here are some other specifics on why I liked working with Robert. - He is very reachable by email and cell. Most of my communication with him was over email. My husband mostly communicated with him via phone. - He was flexible when we were deciding on minute details such as the stripe width. We changed our mind on the width and he accommodated the request. - He has a strong work ethic as evidenced by his lightening fast turnaround and responsiveness.
Description of Work: Nursery painted: ceiling and all walls (we did not request trim/baseboard painting) Dresser painted Some touch up on a our ground floor (nicks in the paint on our walls).

Robert (owner) came over to evaluate the job and we immediately felt comfortable with him. He listened to what we wanted to do and then asked questions to make sure he understood and offered suggestions when we were uncertain about something. In some cases, he offered to try it one way and if we didn't like it, he'd do it a different way. We received his estimate that same day by e-mail and his price was more than reasonable...it ended up being more than $1000 less than the next lowest bid. Once we accepted his bid and signed the contract, he started on Monday of the very next week. He showed up a bit early the first day to make sure everything was ready to go. The foyer and upstairs hallway were done in 2 days; the kitchen the following day, and the family room was complete on Friday. They showed up on time every day, even when the weather was bad. They did an exceptional job and we could not be happier with the results. Even though he was the lowest bidder by a long shot, that didn't mean he cut corners or skimped in any way. In fact, when we pointed out a number of nail pops they had missed, he took care of them without hesitation. In fact, we discovered a fairly significant flaw in the drywall that we had all missed when he worked up his estimate. When asked to fix it, he readily agreed and did a great job for a very minimal extra charge. He also painted a small section above a door white to match the ceiling but my wife and I didn't like it so he went back and repainted it the wall color...no problem. When they were done each day, Robert and Keith cleaned up and made sure things were as normal as possible for us. They took great care to make sure all of our furniture and floors were covered and we have not found any paint stains anywhere. On Friday, everything they had moved was back in place by the time we got home. In short, they did a wonderful job and did it in a professional manner. Even better, Robert and Keith are just nice guys and working with them was easy...even enjoyable. We provided them with a key to the house so they could get in every day if we were gone by the time they arrived and we had no qualms whatsoever about that. We felt we could trust them completely. We would highly recommend Robert to anyone who is looking for a painter who does high-quality work at reasonable prices. We won't even consider using anyone else when we're ready for our next painting job.
Description of Work: Painted 2-story foyer, upstairs hallway, kitchen, and family room with vaulted ceiling and skylights. Included all ceilings, walls, trim, doors, and prep work (caulking, spackling, sanding).
