The hose to my gooseneck faucet had two pin hole leaks, and the replacement hose was an off size in spite of Justin trying to find a replacement. Unfortunately, we could not determine the manufacturer of the faucet in order to easily replace the hose. The faucet was a cheap one, so I’ll have to get a new name brand, but Justin took a while explaining the problem for a minimal fee.

Outstanding. George, Jason, and Chris made a complex job look easy. The new line was pulled under the driveway, under the house, and to the inside. The right size holes were dug at both ends to minimize impact to the property. The team knew what they were doing and it was interesting to watch.

Great experience. We had sump pump installed by another company on Angie’s List and had several problems. B F Plumbing was called to see if could fix flooding of flower beds caused by drainage on our driveway (unsightly also). This was done on an earlier date, found them in phone book. Spent approx $500 to cut off that drainage pipe outside house, sealed, and rerouted as we are on city water & have more options that meet code than orig. sump pump installers were unaware of. Did excellent job. 2nd job- 11/16/2018 sump pump caused swirling of water inside hole @ high rate w/water spewing out around the cover. Plumber from Benjamin Franklin arrived quickly, looked in hole and saw problem immediately-check valve was completely detached & clamp needed to be put back on & tightened-apparently things aren’t properly aligned & also wasn’t tightened enough so came off after about a month- if problem happens again, will need to have pipes cut and completely redone so that things r aligned & fit properly which will be a lot more expensive than fixing valve problem. Hopes are that it will hold. Charged us a VERY reasonable fee & took time to explain problems with original installation. VERY professional. Price given is for both visits.

I placed a request on Saturday during the day via their website for an appointment Monday evening. (This work is being done in a condo that we have just moved out of, and are trying to sell.) By about 1 PM on Monday, I had not received any type of confirmation of my appointment, so I called in. There was no apology or acknowledgement of the breakdown, the lady I spoke with just tried to schedule me. She offered me a 2 PM - 5PM window, but since it was already about 1 and I work in Philly and commute via train, there is no way I could have been in Wilmington in an hour with no notice. So she offered me an appointment for sometime after 5. She also told me that the plumber could not replace the actuator, that she would have to send a tech from One Hour HVAC to evaluate if it actually was the actuator that needs to be replaced (this is the 3rd time the actuator has needed to be replaced, trust me, its the actuator!!) I passed on apt with One Hour, and took the appt for the disposal and the leaky sink. At 4:30, the plumber called my husband and said he could be there in 15 mins (Yeah for being early, I just wasn't expecting it). I arrived right at 5, as security was opening the loading dock gates for the plumber. I met him inside and took him up to my unit. A real estate agent who represents a potential buyer was already in the unit with someone. (note, these people were not introduced to the plumber) The plumber proceeded to criticize the garbage disposal I had bought as basically a cheap POS that I really should not use. He told me he could supply me with a better quality product and I should return this one. All of this in front of the BUYER's agent (or maybe the former buyer's agent!!) Seriously, TOTALLY unprofessional. These people were not in another room, or out of sight, they were right there in front of him. A gentleman who was with the agent said to him "That's your customer." (as in, show some respect, but I think it went right over his head). I should have sent him packing then, but I really just want this condo sold, and had already invested my time and energy on making this appt, I let him proceed. It cost me $359 (not including the disposal itself), and he was there for a total of an hour (I mean from the time he signed into the building to the time he signed out, not that it took him an hour to do the install). I don't make $359/hour or even 1/3 of that! Lesson learned, do not hire Ben Franklin plumbing. Crossing my fingers that this buyer still buys my condo.
Description of Work: I needed a garbage disposal replaced, a sink checked for a leak and an actuator on a heat pump replaced.

They were able to come the day (Saturday) I called. But they came at the end of the day. So when they quoted me $1600 which is about $1000 more than I had expected, I felt obligated to have it done anyway. I wasn't happy about the fact that they replaced my 40 gallon heater with a 50 gallon heater which will cost me 25% more to run and which isn't necessary for my household of 2 people. I wasn't asked or given an option.

When the technician came, he was on time and friendly. I explained the problem again. He could do nothing to fix it, and said he needed his supervisor to give me the estimate. So he took measurements and left, saying he would have the supervisor get back to me the next day. This was one week ago on Wednesday, and I have still received no quote. I e-mailed Friday to follow up and received no response. On Monday, I called to follow up, and the woman who answered said the the supervisor was looking at it AS WE SPEAK and would send the quote by end of day. I e-mailed the next day, Tuesday, and have received no response. I'm not sure why they would come out to look at the problem if they didn't want to provide a quote and do the work.
Description of Work: I called and made an appointment to have a plumber come look at my drain. I described the problem- that my husband had gotten a plumber's snake caught in the drain and it won't come out. They sent a person out within one day.

I felt pressured. apparently, commissioned technicians are allotted an amount of time to spend on getting a contract signed. I wasn't able to sign anything without my husband knowing what we were getting into. the tech appeared disappointed and worried when leaving, having spent a whopping 45 minutes without getting a signed contract. the first recommendation given was to install a home water filtering system to eliminate hard water residue. secondly, replacing both toilets vs repairs. tech still in driveway to leave, I received an email and a phone call asking my opinion on the tech's services.....I advised nothing was serviced and asked why they would need to ask. the caller's response, making sure that any service performed was done without any problems. another plumbing co did do a little adjustment to each toilet, all is fine for the amount of a service call.
Description of Work: contacted Benjamin Franklin plumbing to find out why one toilet's bowl quickly dirtied and another toilet making noise when flushed. the technician strongly advised to replace toilets vs cost for parts/repair.

The plumber was punctual and had all the parts and tools he needed with him on the truck. I had two external hose bibs and neither had worked right for many years, with leaks. Unfortunately, both locations were low on the foundation and required going into my finished basement. I had to move shelves and ceiling tile back for access. The plumber agreed to put in a new freeze-proof fixture at the one location, but said he could not get sufficient access to the other location, so it remains inoperative. It took the plumber about three hours for the job, removing the old faucet and copper pipe and soldering in the new fixture, which required work in the basement as well as outside. The plumber offered a contract service and we accepted, since it allowed for a significant discount at the time of service and is supposed to give us priority in any future plumbing needs, as well as continue the discount. Various contracts were explained, and we selected one that costs about $15 a month, with an automatic deduction from our checking account. Since we have a 45 year old house, we are likely to need further plumbing repairs so we will try the contract for a while to see if it proves useful.
Description of Work: Plumber removed an external hose bib and installed a new freeze-proof fixture. He also inspected another external hose bib that had been leaking.

It's been 6 months since the work was done and no issues.
Description of Work: Exterior drain pipe clogged and had to have our yard dug up and a new pipe from the house to the sewer system needed to be installed. Price was fair - it was in the 5000 area so the price I entered was a guess. All work was completed in one day. Professional and thorough. Have used them before and will use again. Good warranty that transferred to new home owner if house is sold. I gave price a B but I believe it to be fair. It was just a lot of money I was not planning to spend. I liked that there was not guess work in the price. They identified the work to be done, entered it in their computer and a price was generated, some wiggle room with options but all was standardized. And when they went a little long that da the price did not change. Not like smaller firms where I feel they are trying to guess what I would pay.

They wer e punctual and were there when they said they'd be out. With the estimate they gave, we thought it was outrageous but what was more outrageous was after the quote and my husband said no, he asked what we would be willing to pay. Personally I want honest pricing up front, not how much would you be willing to pay when we said no. This is why I rated professionalism low. A company should give their best price at the estimate not how much are you willing to pay. Then he said if we buy a new faucet for our kitchen sink, he will come back and install it for $150. Said our current sink needed a part and it would take a while for it to come in. At this point my husband said no and showed them the door. I ended up calling my home improvement guy and he came in and fixed both for $120. We did buy a new faucet and he installed that and fixed our tub by replacing the cartridge. Both are working great and I saved hundres of dollars.
Description of Work: Got an estimate on a leaky faucet in my kitchen and in my tub. For the price to fix the faucet, we could buy a new one and have it installed. He told us the upstairs faucet in the tub had to be replaced and started spouting off all these problems that could happen. We had just had our whole bathroom remodeled with new tile, vanity, toilets etc. for 3 bathrooms a little over the price this plumbing company estimated to fix 2 leaky faucets.

Technician explained that the drain wasn't running that slowly. I already had a service visit cost tied up ($39) I explained that I wanted it cleaned. He told me he wouldn't use the $50 coupon on this site but NO WHERE does it say that (buyer beware!) After a period of time he told me the machines he would use wouldn't take care of the drain, that they would have to replace pipes (which in this case include tearing up a floor or ripping out the tub) - no access panel. Oh- did I mention the cost of that is over $900??? So bottom line, I still have a slow drain and I'm out $39. :-(
Description of Work: Showed up on time and was professional and courteous. I have an older home and wanted a drain cleared (it was running slowly). I called, explained I had a coupon, etc. Young lady was polite and followed up with an email.

Not well. My appointment window was between 1 and 4 p.m. I took off the afternoon to wait for the plumber. Around 2:00 the office called and said the plumber was on his way. He showed up at 3:51. When the plumber arrived he advised me that my leaking faucet would have to be completely replaced. I asked why it couldn't be repaired. He told me about anti-scolding laws which I certainly understand. Code when replacing the faucet must be met. But I didn't want the mess, expense and some fake chrome face plate covering the 2 existing holes in the tile, so insisted thatwe investigate replacing the cartridges in the Moen faucet. (Which our local hardware store keeps in stock - 1224b if you have the old style Moen brass 2 handle faucet. The plumber was very nice and said that repairing doesn't always work but if he was to do teh job the price was over $400. I was shocked. I looked up the parts while he was there. $10 - $13 for each cartridge. Now I understand it takes an hour of time to pull the faucet apart, put the new parts in, test the faucet and even clean up the old handles and escutcheons... I even understand overhead of insurance, benefits and trucks on the street - but $400 plus was just too steep. Then we discussed the leaking drain. He said he needed a 2nd guy - so teh repair couldn't be done that day. He also had to cut a hole in the kitchen ceiling - which I somewhat anticipated - and of course meant a repair later to it. He quoted over $900 to replace the drain system. The plumber was very nice and even went outside to call his boss to see if he had any wiggle room on the price - But it was a NO GO. I thanked him for his time, called a local plumber - paid $810 for both the faucet repair - which is perfect and the replacement of the entire drain system which was done entirely through the closet access door.... no hole in the ceiling to patch. Bottom line - expensive and unable to work on 50+ year old homes in North Wilmington.
Description of Work: I called because the faucet in the tub and the drain in the upstairs bathroom were leaking and water which was coming down in the kitchen.

My main sewer line had to be replaced after it had apparently collapsed. We had water backing up in the sewer line and overflowing a downstairs toilet whenever we ran more than a little water. We were told that it was because we had old, clay pipes that are easily destroyed by roots and age. Benjamin Franklin ran a camera to determine the location and gave me a quote. After getting a few more quotes, I decided to hire Benjamin Franklin mostly based on price. They dug a hole / trench and used a pipe-burst method from the sewer to install a new pipe. The job was finished within one day. I was given a 3-year blockage guarantee and a 20-year guarantee on the work. I obviously haven't had to use it yet - so I'm not sure how well they will stick to this. I will update the review if I do. Positives: Overall, I'm happy. It's been about three weeks and all is clear - that's the main thing. The employees were very friendly, on time, and able to answer any and all questions. The best aspect of working with Benjamin Franklin was the open and straight-forward pricing. My first quote from them was the best quote - no haggling required. Negatives: There aren't many, but if I HAD to pick one it would be the condition of the yard after the work. The front yard is a little messy. I expected my grass to be destroyed and replaced by dirt, but the dirt that was replaced after the job was done was simply piled up with little regard for appearance (I have a small mount now in the front lawn). When the weather gets a little nicer I'll end up getting out there with a rake to even everything out. Is it worth a few extra thousand dollars to hire a company that replaces the grass? Not to me, but a little extra care would have gone a long way. UPDATE: Either I misunderstood the service guys or this review prompted it, but Benjamin Franklin came back out and set the ground MUCH better! That leaves me with no complaint about the quality of service at all. Great quality job overall! I changed the grading to reflect.
