Response from CABINETRY UNLIMITED INC
First, we would like to apologize for such a delayed response to your review. We weren't aware that we had an existing Angie's List account, until a new account was created recently. When the new account was created, it merged existing reviews, allowing us to see this for the first time. Second, we are sorry you don't feel you had a great experience with our company. In reading your review, it is unclear which part of your project was customized. You are right that most companies do not truly do custom cabinetry, we are one of the few places that do. Unfortunately, it is very hard to match a finish from a custom piece to a finish from a cabinet line. Most cabinet lines use unique finishes specific to their company. Unless we can get parts from the manufacturer to modify, it is quite an effort to match the two different finishes. This is why we recommend using a contrasting color for your custom piece, or not have the custom piece placed in between cabinets that may not match exactly. We are glad to hear that our company took all the time necessary to match your finishes perfectly. Whenever you add cabinetry to existing cabinetry, you risk not having the colors match. Existing cabinets have already been exposed to dirt and sunlight, as well as many things that newly painted doors have not been exposed to, therefore the colors might not match exactly. The process to get the colors to match exactly can be difficult depending on various factors, such as the color that needs to be matched and how long the existing cabinets have been in place. We apologize for this process being stressful to you, but I am glad to hear that the colors did match in the end. Depending on the glass doors you chose, you may have trouble lining up the shelving with mullions in the glass doors. These different options should have been reviewed with you, and for that we apologize. Most cabinetry made for wall ovens are specifically designed to be cut down in the field to fit your specific oven. There is just no way for a cabinet line to make an oven cabinet to fit every single oven on the market. We are glad that your project manager was able to remedy this in the field. This also sounds like an issue of a designer not setting proper expectations, something we apologize for. Our designers have years of experience and know most of the problems that will come up in the designs, and they have a responsibility to relay them to you. You were not educated enough and that is our responsibility. In the years since your post, our designers have learned from their mistakes, and have become more aware of the importance of educating their clients. Soft close hinges used to come as an upgrade or as a separate piece of hardware needing to be installed. You are not the first to have an issue with this, so most cabinet lines now have the soft close hinges installed before they get to you. It is not said what line you used, but depending on what line, that issue may already be solved. We apologize that you had to have this installed separately, adding more stress to you. As far as the crew not cleaning up behind themselves, that is completely unacceptable. A renovation is stressful enough without having to come home to a dirty house everyday. For that, we truly apologize. In the years since your service, our installers have become some of the best in the area! Lastly, the time frame for your project depends on a lot of things and it is unclear from your description what is determined as the actual starting point for your project. Was it when you started meeting with a designer to get ideas and start working with your space? Or when you signed your contract to order? Timelines vary with the client and the specific needs of the project, and since no two clients are the same, no two timelines are the same. We offer our deepest apologies for you not being properly informed during your renovation. Renovations are stressful, and we strive to alleviate as much stress as we can. Since this post was not seen before now, there is little we can do to correct these mistakes. We can say that in the past years, our company has grown a lot and through that growth, many bad practices have been corrected. You were a victim of some of those bad practices, especially not having proper expectations set. You should have been so well informed about your renovation, that you could coordinate the next one! We apologize for our shortcoming, and hope that if you have a future renovation, you will allow us to prove to you how our company has progressed!
