I have been painting my homes for 35 years and my wife and I have been satisfied with my results. But when it came to the Delaware vacation home, I just couldn?t find the time. So, I consulted with two contractors who are highly rated on Angie?s List and a third who was recommended by a neighbor real estate agent. I ended up choosing the third, Donovan?s Painting and Drywall, because they had the experience and capability to remove the ?popcorn? textured ceiling treatments that were popular in the 1980s when the house was constructed. Boy, am I glad I chose Donovan?s! The quality of the paint job was first rate. Absolutely nothing I could have done myself could compare with Donovan?s quality. They charged a fair price - not too low and not too high ? and made recommendations that made sense (like using oil based paint on the stair railings). Their cleanup efforts were extraordinary, especially considering the horrible drywall dust messes that removing popcorn ceilings create. Donovan?s is not a small mom-and-pop outfit. At the time they worked on my home, they were painting the exteriors of a large nearby condo development. They employ 20-40 painters at any one time depending upon workload. A bit of advice, though?. If you are in a resort community and need painting done, you should know that peak season for painters is April, May, September, and October. Slack season is actually summertime because most rentals are occupied and cannot be painted. So, you are dreaming if you think you can call at the last minute to get a company to paint your home during the last two weeks or May. We arranged to have our home painted during August, which worked out just fine for both us and Donovan?s. I?m giving Donovan?s the highest rating I can; it?s too bad I can?t rate them even higher!
