My experience with Gold Star was excellent from beginning to end. I read all the reviews and I must say, everyone was telling the truth. They live of to their expectations an more. Great prices, great people! You can't ask for anything else. Thank you !

I highly recommend Gold Star. We knew we needed a new heater and started the process. I had seen the advertisements for Gold Star and their $6790 package. I was skeptical knowing you get what you pay for but I saw the positive reviews and I like that they are a small local business. After our first quote being outrageous, I called them for an estimate. To compare, our current service provider quoted $16K, brought down to $14,890 with multiple coupons, multiple texts to the manager, upfront signature, and agreeing to a day where they needed work for their crew. They did not offer to reuse any of our existing upgrades. I was expecting a cost of $10-12K, possibly $13, but not $16!!! For that price we would have gone for geothermal! Enter Gold Star: The experience was exceptional. Tony examined the system and toured the house. He immediately noticed all the things I felt were done incorrectly with the previous install and told me how they would be addressed. I mentioned my concerns and he addressed each one informing me of the different options available. There was no "big book" presentation for an hour. No up-selling, no bad mouthing of other companies, and no scare tactics.There was no mention of install dates until I brought them up. He informed me that there was no need to purchase any upgrades bc what we had could be removed from the old system and installed in the new one. Others did not share that offer. When it was time for a quote, he wrote it out on the contract form, but did not ask for a signature. He said he would return if we decided to go with Gold Star. I was shocked at the low quote! I asked many questions about the employees (not subcontractors) who would be doing the install and why they were coming in so low. I felt he was very transparent and I appreciated his business model. I completed my research after he left and quickly made my decision to have Tony come back. The crew was out the next morning on time. They were professional and knowledgeable. They were happy to show me how things worked and watch them put it together. You could see they enjoyed what they were doing. Thank you for the wonderful service, both the sales and install.

It went well, I have used them for additional work. They seem to be good. They didn't honor the $49 for the other unit. They have been very responsive. I would recommend them.

Gold Star did a fantastic job! The technician that sent out was knowledgeable and very courteous. Plus, he was punctual! He took the time to explain what he was doing and how things should work. I will definitely use them again!

In August 2015 my AC went. Because this happened on a weekend, I first called a leading competitor since they had Saturday on-call service. I suspected a leak since I just replaced the old R4 refrigerant two years ago. Two years ago I asked for a leak test to be performed, however the servicing company I used explained that his leak test gear probably would not find the leak. The recharge was also on a weekend and I think he was just too lazy to troubleshoot. He added 5 pounds of costly refrigerant for around $490.00 and took off. Fast forward to this year with this current incident, I decided not to use the company I dealt with previously. Just based on radio ads and seeing their trucks everywhere, I decided to call a very popular HVAC company. The technician arrived and was very cordial and professional. He recommended replacing my A- coil after finding a severe leak using a nitrogen test I authorized. Upon further inspection, the tech found a few quarter sized holes in my heat exchanger using a camera. He explained the holes are leaking exhaust gasses into the home when the heat kicks in. I knew that before winter this had to be addressed. Spending $2600.00 just to put in a heat exchanger (the part was under warranty, however labor was high, due to a complete overhaul of the furnace) and a new A coil brought repair costs to over $4000. Additionally the refrigerant I was using was outdated and would no longer be produced after 2020. So the repair would put a band aid on having to replace the system nonetheless. It was as old as the home, built in 2001 and generally that is the life span of a residential HVAC system anyway. So the decision was to do a complete HVAC replacement, which my wife and I agreed, would be a the better option than a costly repair. This competitor?s deals ranged from $12k to $18K. That was over my budget. I paid for services rendered and shopped around for a better price. We heard about Angie?s list and decided to look for companies based on merit from their website. It was easy to navigate. After calling several companies that met an A rating with an A in price we decided on Gold Star. The owner, Shane was up front and honest with his quote and recommendations. After discussing the package deal for HVAC replacement currently being offered, I asked about how much a higher efficiency unit would price. Shane mentioned he had some Trane XR-95 100K BTU furnaces and XB-16 4 ton systems in stock and could offer me the complete system installed for $7790.00. This includes a 10 year parts and labor warranty. I opted for no interest financing and have a year to pay. I did have to pay $300 extra for the financing, however the price was way below the entry level units that the competition was offering. He sent out Tony from his sales team and we went over the statement of work and financials. Shane even took $100 off the price because I already had a smart Wi-Fi thermostat. Dealing with Gold Star from start to finish on my complete HVAC replacement was exceptional. I had a 12 year old Freedom 90 100K BTU gas furnace with a 4 ton, 10 seer unit outside. Going to Delmarva power?s website, I already see a marked improvement in energy usage and a significant reduction in energy costs due to replacing the system with the high efficiency products Gold star installed. Two men arrived on time at 9am and had the entire job completed by 4PM. They even installed a brand new return duct drop so my heating unit draws outside air instead of drawing from the basement where my furnace is installed. The PVC and duct work installation was neat, and spot on. The workers removed the old units and left the basement spotless.

My AC unit failed in late July. I called Gold Star and 3 other HVAC contractors to get quotes on a new system. Every one of the others quoted a price that was close to 2 times that of Gold Star. Of course i was somewhat skeptical since the lowest price vendor usually has the lowest quality. So i did some due diligence to feel more comfortable about selecting them. 1. I spoke to Jeff and he explained their business model and how they are growing their business and service base through reasonably priced installations. 2. They are Trane-certified specialists and install many systems, so they get good pricing from the Trane distributor. 3. They have great ratings from Angie's list and the BBB. I couldn't find any sub-par ratings on their installations and i looked diligently. After this review, and now having my system in place for 5 days, i'm thrilled to have selected Gold Star. Their technicians were polite and professional. They showed up on time, did their work diligently, explained the system to me when they were done, and cleaned the premises (left it spotless).

Our a/c unit froze up in June. I called Gold Star as they had good ratings on Angies list. On June 13, which was a Saturday,I called at about 7:30 AM and Shane arrived in less than an hour. He explained we probably had a Freon leak in the system and would charge up the unit but if that didn't fix it we would probably need a new system. He also found we needed a new relay switch which he had to order and would be back to replace it when it came in. In the interim, the system froze up again and the technician who came out said it would probably not fix the problem, we really could use a new system, they gave us credit for the charges from the first visit towards the purchase of the new system. They scheduled us for July 9, the crew was right on-time and were done by 1PM. They went over everything with us regarding the new system, hauled away the old one, cleaned up and now my house is nice and cool and has a nice programmable thermostat. I am very impressed with the warranty as well which covers labor and parts for 10 years. If you need HVAC service I would suggest you call Gold Star, they were really excellent.

I called Jeff from Gold Star on 7-15-15 and told him my central AC has stopped working and he told me he could have a guy out to my house between 10-12 the next day. The next day Phil from Gold Star showed up around 10:30 am and did a full system check and diagnostic and within 20 minutes found the problem. He had to replace the system board on the AC unit because a really big spider got in there and was fried. Phil was extremely professional and personable and was a great help. He even replaced my filters and went above and beyond and fixed the door to the filters which has been broken for some time. This has been the second time I've used Gold Star service and this is only the second time I have received top notch service from a A/C repair/installation company the owners Sean and Jeff have made themselves a great business that they should be proud of and the guys that work for them really show that this is a great company how they go above and beyond the normal customer service. Jeff if you read this I wanna thank you and take care of Phil he really impressed me with his work ethic and i'm not easily impressed and again thank you very much and keeping me cool in the summer. He arrived right on time, wore booties in the house. There was a coolant leak in the A/C unit, and he explained all my options. I would definitely use them again.

Existing unit failed on 6/23/15 - storm related incident. Called Gold Star on 7/1, by 3:30 that afternoon a tech was here and diagnosed the unit as needing to be replaced. Waited several days for the insurance response. contracted with Gold Star on 6/30. We were going on vacation so arranged for the installation on 7/8/15 - the day after our return. When we signed the contract they took a modest deposit, with final payment do at installation completion. As promised, the crew arrived at the house just before 7am and completed their work around one. removed the old furnace and outside AC unit, installed and tested new equipment, installed a new thermostat and explained its operation. Additionally, through online registration of these Trane units we received a 10 year parts/labor warranty. The experience with Gold Star has been great, I expect the Trane unit will be also. Will recommend Gold Star every chance I get and will use them again in the furture should the need arise.

Local, family-run company, with an incredible work ethic. I had an absolutely outstanding experience with a full swapout of a heat pump / AC and propane furnace. Reasonable, up-front pricing without a come-on, whereas others started high and expected to negotiate down to a competive bottom line. Quality workmanship, and a refreshingly overwhelming attention to assuring customer satisfaction in every detail. It's no wonder that they are their services are in high demand, and I would sooner wait a little bit for an installation date, rather than settling for a second-rate deal from one of the mega-corporate competitors.

Technician arrived on time, was professional and courteous. He used shoe covers anytime he had to walk into the house. The technician did a check of the system and identified a low level of freon in the system and a potential for a leak based on the large difference in expected to actual pressure. He broke down the price of recharging the freon, while also bouncing it off the age of the unit (17 years) and being able to find and fix the leak at additional charge. He did not push in any direction but gave me the information and let me make the decision on quoting a new system vice trying to fix and recharge an old, inefficient unit.

We were in the market to replace our non-functioning oil burner with a natural gas furnace, as we were able to get natural gas installed by Delmarva on our street. We interviewed several companies, and selected Gold Star Services based on ad they ran in the Wilmington News Journal, our initial meeting with account representative Tony Frazier and customer reviews found on Angie?s List. Tony provided and explained the various options for our home and living style and pricing arrangements and did not try to oversell. The prices he quoted we found to be competitive. The 10 Year Parts and Labor Warranty was unique and definitely an incentive. It showed how much faith Gold Star Services puts in the quality and reliability of the equipment they provide and their services. In particular, we appreciated the fact that Tony was very professional and did not talk about other heating and cooling services (as other companies we had interviewed talked about Gold Star Services). The installation crew (Jeff, Dave and Dave) was friendly and courteous, extremely knowledgeable and also very professional. They worked as clean as can be expected with the removal and replacement of furnace equipment. I appreciate the fact that the owner of Gold Start Services, Shane Donahue, took personal interest in the job and visited our home several times to review the installation progress and inspections. The equipment we purchased were a TRANE Variable Speed 2-Stage Gas Furnace (97% efficiency) and a TRANE 3.5 Ton 1-Stage AC Unit. We are very satisfied with the operation of the furnace over this past winter. It runs very quiet, which is a big factor as it is installed on the first floor of our home, next to a family room (we do not have a basement). It does a nice job of heating our 48 year old, two-story home. Our fuel bill is about one-third of what we would have spent on oil. We highly recommend Gold Star Services to anyone who is contemplating replacing their furnace and air conditioner, especially if they are converting from oil to natural gas.

We had a gas furnace (from 1988) that was no longer functioning properly. We saw a Gold Star advertisement in a local paper and decided to give them a call to get an estimate for a new one and for a new A/C. Co-owner Jeff came to our house on a Monday and explained all of the details of the work to be done and the cost. We were hesitant to go with a company that has only been around a few short years but we liked the fact that they are a family owned, local business. Their price was also very reasonable - we got a 95% efficient TRANE furnace and 14 SEER air conditioner for less money than other places quoted for inferior equipment. We called him back on Tuesday to say that we were interested in setting up the installation and they were able to come out on Thursday to complete the job. The three men that came to the house were very respectful, professional and knowledgeable. They found issues in the previous installation setup and took time to correct it. They even went above and beyond and repaired something with our hot water heater flue, at no additional cost. They informed us of electrical concerns they noticed and suggested we call in an electrician to get it looked at by an expert. They covered the carpet and did their best to keep the home clean. We are very satisfied with the work performed and certainly plan to continue utilizing this company for other needs, including the annual maintenance contract (first year was included in the installation price).

Installation was great and customer service after was nothing less than excellent. Before the winter season, they called to make a free service appt and when we delayed in calling back, the followed up.

I called Gold Star Services the afternoon of Wednesday, January 14th. Tony called me back within 15 minutes and we set up an appointment for him to come out that evening at 5:30. He arrived on time and checked my 30 year heating and cooling system. Then he proceeded to explain to me what needed to be done. Tony was very easy to talk with and didn't try to sell me anything I didn't need. We decided that his team would come out on Friday, January 16th to remove the old unit and install the new one. Friday at 7:30 a.m. Jeff showed up at my door. Trevor and Dave were close behind him. The three of them went right to work removing the old system. It is obvious they have worked together for a while because each knew exactly what they needed to do. I appreciated the care they took to make sure they didn't bring any mud into my home. By 1:00 p.m. the system was in and running. Jeff explained how to care for the heater and operate the thermostat. I highly recommend that you call Gold Star Services if you need help with your heating and cooling equipment. :)

They had already done the same to another property in the summer and we were so pleased with their response that we turned to them immediately to add a heat pump to an existing oil furnace to slow the oil consumption down and have the heating more efficient. They responded to our call within 24 hours and we completed the sale the next day with installation a day later. The weather that day as really bad and in spite of slipping all over the back yard, they installed the heat pump and made the connection in one day. Now the oil only comes on when the temps get below 30 degrees, making the heating system more efficient. They cleaned up the yard after themselves, but did not clean up the immediate area around the furnace. However, we were very happy with the results, especially the prompt response. They lowered the price to reflect last year's model and saved us quite a lot of money.

The gentleman showed up on time, examined the current configuration and was informative, knowledgeable; told us we needed a 4.5 ton heat pump to properly deliver heat and A/C through our existing ventilation system. Previous sales rep from another company had tried to sell us a 5 ton heat pump, which would have clashed with existing sub-system. The cost was very reasonable and competitive, the product was a Trane Heat Pump, which would allow us to have heat with our existing oil back up and would deliver A/C and could easily be used with a gas furnace back up, if we decided to switch to gas - one of the options we were considering. If we switched to Solar heat, the heat pump he offered to install would also be appropriate. With the price a third less than an earlier sales rep for another HVAC product, AND delivery and installation scheduled for the following day, as well as the reputation of the TRANE brand name, a 10 years, parts AND labor warranty and NO maintenance package required, it was a no brainer. No subcontractors were used, all work was performed by Gold Star technicians. Installation happened on time the next day, and the system was humming by early afternoon. line into the house was moved and now no longer snakes around the back of the house and again inside the basement. New platform was installed and maximum care was taken not to disturb the plants nearby. Old hole where the old line had been punched into the house was properly sealed up. Gold Star Services discussed financing and stayed extremely flexible when we needed an extra two days to move funds for payment. They allowed us four days before receiving payment in full. All in all these folks were a fine example of reasonably priced service and product, and professional work. We are very happy with the experience.

Sales person was professional and attentive, installation was done promptly without issue. Price was as expected. one year later no issue with Air conditioner. Also had Gold star service our furnace and pleased with that. we did have a major issue with Mariner Financing who we financed the furnace through but Gold star helped us resolve it. Remarkable service in today's world. would not use Mariner again though.
