First State Building and Design

Every phase of the project went smoothly and professioally. . FSBD provided a 3-D rendering of the project and then once we agreed upon size and color, they handles all the parperwork with both our HOA and the county. Contruction went without a hitch and at the end of every day, the crew cleaned up the worksite and made certain we knew was was planed for the new day. Upon completion, there was an issue with 2 of the boards not matching the exact color of the others. FSBD immediately contacted Timbertech and arranged for 2 new boards to be shipped which they installed the day after the replacements arrived. We also contracted for a front step handrail which matches our house perfectly and provides added safety to our home. Since then many of our neighbors have stopped by to see the deck and have also chosen FSBD to build decks for them. All have said the projects are going as planned and they all are equally satisfied with FSBD

It is not often that I would rate any company a 10/10 but First State Building and Design blows away the competition! Andrew Roten answered my numerous questions promptly and quickly about tearing down and rebuilding the deck.. The work crew was first class and did superior work. (They did a fantastic job of keeping the work place clean and not dropping any nails, wires, etc for my dogs to step on.) I would highly recommend FSBD to anyone! (Tried to include different views of their work!)

The work done by FSBD was absolutely perfect. I loved the way they came to site and looked at the requirement provided appropriate suggestions. Also helped in making the right choices. Their 3D view of the final design is another awesome capability, I was able to clearly see on how the final deck is going to look like even before the work is started. They were so patience in providing the pricing by constant change in my requirement and provided itemized pricing which helped me choose the final design. I have a future requirement of expanding the Deck to another level and I am definitely getting them back along with recommending to my friends and family.

Joe and team did a phenomenal job on our deck. We came to Joe with an idea, and to be honest, our idea wasn't great, but Joe was able to provide us with some alternatives and get us a design we loved. The team at FSD&B is outstanding, and the work was done exactly the way we wanted. Will definitely be using the company again if we have other projects within their scope!!

The project was managed great from start to finish. Joe provided excellent advice regarding design/accent colors/etc that resulted in a beautiful final product. Communication was clear and complete through the project. We had a drop dead completion date and Joe shuffled scheduling to ensure the deck was ready well in advance of that date. Work crews were polite, punctual and clean up after each day was excellent. When there was a slight problem with drainage, Joe responded quickly and actually spent a Saturday afternoon remedying the issue which was much appreciated. We love the final product and would recommend FSBD without reservation.

First State Building and Design recently completed a new deck for us. Joe was awesome to work with. He kept us informed of everything that was scheduled and how the work was progressing. Their crews worked very hard and long hours, and made very quick progress. We are extremely pleased with the quality of their work and we are really enjoying the finished deck. The communication from beginning to end was prompt, clear and consistent. The people who did the work were polite, neat, and the workmanship was top notch. The estimate on when they would start and how long the project would take was very accurate. We recommend them and would work with them again.

Joe and his crew performed an excellent job. I would highly recommend using First State Building & Design for any decking project. They were professional, pleasant and punctual everyday. The project was completed in only 5 days. My husband and I are very satisfied with the new composite deck. All materials and supplies were included in the total price. We believe that the cost was fair and reasonable for a job well done. We are getting so many compliments on our new open porch/deck. We are happy to entertain our family and guest under the gable roof which eliminates a lot of heat and sun. We plan to install ceiling fans but for now we simply use a floor fan which keeps it cool. Joe Oakes was great from start to finish - he came out and did an estimate for us, explained what type of materials they would use, etc. He then sent us photos of what it would look like. My husband and I went back and forth on color options of the deck materials several times and Joe was very patient with us and helped by giving his opinion. The day of the installation was a breeze - Joe and his team showed up first thing in the morning and finished the entire deck by end of day! They also acquired the permit and submitted the permit application on their own - which we found to be a huge plus and a very rare service, not provided by any other deck installer's that we received quotes from. The deck looks fantastic and you can see the quality throughout all the details of the design. I highly recommend Joe and First State Building.

Joe went through various options with me depending on budget/aesthetic criteria. Provided plenty of information about the materials, timing, and cost. Weather and scheduling led to a bit of a delay in finding a day that worked to have the labor completed, however when it happened, everything was completed in one day; demo and removal of the old deck, measurement/cutting/installation of the current deck. It looks great, it feels comfortable, and is clearly built to last for many years. Joe and co are truly great to work with.

Adding a three-season room to the rear of our home was a really major project for my wife and me. It was something neither of us had every done before. Our FSBD representative was extremely helpful in helping us sort through the many decisions that are required to successfully complete a project like this. We received a lot of helpful information about choices that would increase and/or decrease costs or adds to the value of our project.

First State did a great job, they dropped the materials off the morning before and got the job done in a day. Everything was cleaned up perfectly.

We hired First State Building Design to build our deck after conducting four interviews. Joe Oakes was incredible, from the very first meeting on through the end of the project. In order to provide a more complete picture of the experience, I'll talk about it in stages: Hiring/Planning The first thing Joe did when he sat down in our first meeting was to ask "What do envision for your deck?"... Maybe an odd question, but we've always envisioned our deck being part of a larger outdoor/backyard relaxation area, so it was the perfect way to start. Joe listened and took notes, asked about materials and the look we wanted, explained the various price points for materials, and showed us samples of each. It was incredibly thorough and professional. It was the MOST professional presentation we received, by far. After we hired Joe and his team, Joe worked closely with us on the blueprints/design, making any adjustments we requested and offering his advice on certain points we hadn't considered (e.g. where to place the stairs). FSBD took care of filing the paperwork and getting the permit. Construction The FSBD team was fast, clean, and efficient when it came time to build the deck. The lumber was delivered promptly and was carefully placed on the side of our house, avoiding any damage (I've heard of other companies haphazardly dropping off supplies). The team had the footers dug and the framing up efficiently and the entire project was finished in just under three days. When it was complete, they cleaned up the entire work area so the only thing there was a brand new deck for us to enjoy. Deck Design/Materials Our deck is built from Azek decking materials, which is, I believe, the new PVC/maintenance-free stuff. It gets direct sunlight, but the heat retention is minimal, so I think you could walk on this barefoot in the middle of the summer (not always the case with composite decking). We have lighting that frames the perimeter of the deck, w/ FSBD installing the light timer adapter near the requisite power outlet. A note about the design... We did not want a deck w/ railing. What Joe and FSBD put together for us was what can easily be called Part One of our deck plan. The "deck with no railing" you see will be joined by a pergola and then eventually by stone planter boxes that frame the perimeter of the deck, providing an end/ridge point. The deck is a 20'x20' square. Overall If it wasn't abundantly clear by now, we highly recommend First State Building Design. Their craftsmanship is impressive, as is their professionalism and attention to detail. We are very happy we hired them and look forward to working with them again in the new future.

I went great they were there on time every day. They gave me a run down at the end of the day. The Guys that came out to do the jobs were extremely Professional.

I would have given them all 5 stars except for some minor details that weren't finished (i.e. I had to repair some siding that was damaged during deck building, had to purchase and spread gravel where they had dug up existing areas, and there is an awkward transition from the deck stairs to the patio.
