I called Ferris and set up an appointment for someone to come to our home to look at doing a new deck installation. The appointment was set up for January 28th at 5pm. At 4:45pm the day of the appointment, the provider called me to see if the appointment could be rescheduled. A reason for the rescheduling was never given. The new appointment was set for February 4th at 5pm. The provider arrived at our home, and spent a total of 30 seconds with my husband because after seeing that we wanted to work around a set of bilco doors, he said he would need to come back with his "deck guy". My husband expressed his disappointment because he was leaving work early to be home for these appointments, both of which ended up being complete wastes of his time. We never again heard from anyone at Ferris, no one called to reschedule or speak with us about the project at all. Apparently our job wasn't worth it to them, which is a shame because based on a recent quote we are expecting the deck to run approximately $23,000.

Mrs. [member name removed], We are deeply sorry for your negative experience with our estimator. There is no excuse for the way that your appointments were handled, and once we received your feedback we immediately took action internally to resolve these issues. As a result, this individual is no longer with us because they failed to follow our standards of excellence for customer service. It IS a shame that you did not get to experience our award-winning deck installation services, and I can tell you that if you had contracted work with us, you would have loved it. However, I can completely understand why you made your decision. We hope you consider us again for your next home improvement project. Our estimators are very skilled at customer service and very knowledgeable in our products and services, and your experience was a rare one that we plan to never repeat. Thank you for your feedback, and we wish you the best of luck with your deck project. Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you’d like to give it another shot. I’d love to change your mind about us! Sincerely, Walter Ferris President

Was referenced to them by a co worker. Guy shows up as scheduled and inspects the problem. Next day a young mechanic shows up, completes a 50 cent job in no time. I assume it's fixed and never check it. Go to paint the room a year and a half later and discover the leak wasn't fixed. Ferris won't stand behind it because of the time involved. Finally had a guy come in who took the the roofing, flashing and siding off and started the job from scratch. He got it right for about the same money. $500.00. The original guy who came out for Ferris obviously knew what he was doing. Should have know better when a much less experienced guy showed up to do the work. The second guy I used was his own man. He talked the talk and then walked the walk.

[member name removed], I’m sorry to hear that you were not satisfied with our service at your home. It is always our goal to find the leak and address it in the best way the first time—for both our customer’s time and expense and ours. According to our records on file, we did the best we could to bring you considerable savings and ultimately do the right thing for you regarding your roof leak. On March 16, 2012, we first came out to repair your leak for $575. And, it held up for 2 years, which is very good for a leak repair. You called us back in the fall of 2014, to let us know that the leak had come back. Although it the original fix was not given any warranty, we sent our technician back out—free of charge—to re-inspect the issue. We do not typically warranty roof repairs because the only true fix for them is to completely re-install the roof to ensure that the trouble areas are addressed appropriately by our own high standards for roofing installation. On November 4, 2014, the original technician came back out and tore out your trouble spot’s roofing, siding, and flashing and re-installed it, free of charge. And, your trouble spot was fixed. In sum, you received two successful service calls. Leaks are tough to wrangle, but we saw your leak through until it was resolved. All of our technicians, regardless of their age, are highly skilled and trained in their specialties. Although someone might appear young, it certainly does not determine their experience level or skill. We proudly employ staff and crew based solely on their qualifications and demonstrated performance. We take the customer experience very seriously, and allowing an unqualified individual to perform work would not help us to establish or maintain the excellent reputation we have built over time. Again, I’m sorry we don’t see eye-to-eye with you on this one, but I do thank you for the feedback. It always prompts a thorough review of our operations, which never hurts to keep things running optimally and keep delivering excellent customer service, which is always our goal here at Ferris. Thank you again for your feedback. I wish you the best in your future endeavors. Sincerely, Walter Ferris President

First Time Customer - Roofing/Skylight Replacement A family member who completed a recent window replacement referred me to Ferris Home Improvements for a roofing/skylight repair and replacement job for my home in Wilmington, DE. After 3 well reviewed local roofing contractors visited and provided estimates for a ceiling leak I decided to go with Ferris for this job. Casey visited for my initial consultation/estimate and I honestly learned more in my conversations with Casey than the other companies combined as Casey was the only individual who took detailed pictures explaining each issue of my roof and clearly detailed the best approach to correct. Realizing this was going to be a bigger project than I originally expected, Casey took the time to fully explain my options putting himself in my shoes as a customer while another company seemed to be more interested in turning a quick buck for an easy patch work type approach for my immediate leak concern but let me know I would have other costly issues in the near future and would not guarantee their patching. I felt like the pricing was very fair compared to another estimate and I was thoroughly impressed with the Ferris crew members and how polite and precise they were especially with the clean up process. Mike was my day of project coordinator and he carefully arranged the logistics for a large dumpster and material drop off all on a tight city street in Trolley Square which was impressive. After the roofing job was completed Casey and team listened and recognized several concerns that I expressed and remained committed to me as the customer ultimately addressing and fixing each concern until I was 100% satisfied with the job. I will certainly be utilizing Ferris for future home improvement projects and have already shared my positive experience with family and neighbors.

We needed to replace a 26 year old roof (two layers), repair rotted fascia and soffits at six corners and a couple of other places, leveling 14 rafters and install new gutters. Ferris, a well established family home improvement business, was one of six bidders. Ferris made the most cost-effective proposal, based on Owens Corning?s 50-year roofing system, which I carefully evaluated and judged to have a significantly better warranty than GAF, its main competition. In addition, Ferris offers a 20-year installation/labor warranty, the best coverage I have seen. The project started on schedule and took about seven working days, over a two week period, while Ferris coordinated with another contractor who did the exterior painting, and worked around some weather-related delays. The carpenter, the roofing, and the gutter crews were all hard-working, flexible, and committed to doing a good job. They were courteous, quick to accommodate my requests and cleaned up all debris generated in the process. Spencer, the salesman and Quality Control Specialist, and Mike, the Project Manager, were at the site each day a couple of times to supervise the work and bring materials as required. They were flexible, reasonable, reliable, and pleasant to work with. The project was completed on-time and on-budget. There were no arguments about various additions and subtractions, modifying the original scope and price. There were a few minor issues, such as a couple of misfired roofing nails, which caused the shingles above it to rise a little, a cracked shingle, and a slightly misaligned ridge-line (a cosmetic defect resulting from a slightly misaligned building structure), which were all corrected in a follow-up visit. Clearly, excellent performance like this does not happen by mistake ? it is driven by company policies, procedures, crew training and a corporate commitment to quality and customer satisfaction. I am a satisfied customer and would recommend Ferris for any home improvement project, on the basis of their competitive price, performance, high-quality work, extensive labor warranty and strong customer orientation.
Description of Work: 1. Removed old gutters 2. Repaired rotted fascia and soffits as needed 3. Cut in additional soffit vents 4. Removed old shingles (2 layers) 5. Removed 24 deck sheets (as needed) 6. Leveled ("sistered") 14 rafters 7. Installed new Owens Corning Duration Roofing System 8. Replaced chimney and vent-pipe flashings 9. Installed new gutters and downspouts

(Member Name), I am very sorry to hear that you were not completely satisfied during your experience with our company. Frankly, I completely understand how you feel. No matter how busy our team gets, the foreman should always come back to inspect your finished project. The foreman was immediately disciplined, as this is not at all acceptable protocol for our process. While we are incredibly confident in our workmanship, it is always best to check in with you and ensure you are satisfied. I thank you for your feedback, and I assure you that similar issues like this will not arise. We are your partner in home improvements, from start to finish, and I put my family name behind that. Work was not done.
Description of Work: Ferris never followed up with us so the work was never performed. The first person from Ferris came out and he was very nice. However, he said that what we needed done (making a closet and a new hallway in our upstairs) was not worth their time. We asked about some other work we were considering doing (remodeling bathrooms) and he wrote up an estimate for us while he was there. He made an appointment to come back in a week to see if we had decided to do the work. A week later a different person showed up for our appointment and he had no idea what we had talked about with the first guy. He explained that the man we met with had quit and now he would be helping us. We gave him the estimates that we had been given the week earlier and talked about some additional work. The new guy left and we never heard from him or the company again. It was very unprofessional and we were prepared to spend a lot of money with them if they had only followed through.

[removed member name], I sincerely apologize for your negative experience with your estimation process. Unfortunately, when staff changes unexpectedly, this can definitely be a headache for the customer and for us as well. However, we should have done a better job of reducing opportunity for confusion and frustration. I personally spoke to the estimator who came out to your home the second time and held him accountable for the lack of timely delivery for your estimate. I also informed my entire team that we should have done a better job of getting more information from the employee who is no longer with us and ensuring that as much information as possible was passed on to the second estimator. I apologize for the inconvenience that our poor organization caused you for this estimate of work. I am confident that we will not experience such issues again in the future, and I hope that you give us an opportunity to actually perform the work at your home. I know you won’t be disappointed. Thank you very much for your feedback. We greatly appreciate it and use it to continually improve our process and continue to grow as your valued local home improvement partner. Ferris did a great job of patching the hole in my roof, when they finally made it out to my house. They promised to arrive on a certain date, didn't make it out by the end of that day, but reassured me that it wouldn't rain that night, so things would be fine. It rained. However, once they did make it out and patch the hole, the patch has held up nicely. I then tried to get in touch with Ferris to do a more permanent repair on the whole structure. I needed a detailed quote in order to submit to my insurance company. Despite speaking with the receptionist at least 3 times and speaking with Casey Ferris at least once, AND giving them a deadline by which I needed the quote, I never once heard back from them. I found their service to be incredibly frustrating and unprofessional.

[member name removed] I am very sorry to hear about your negative experience with our company. While I am thrilled to hear that the repair we performed on your roof has performed very well, I want you to know that I heard your complaint about scheduling the initial repair loud and clear. As a result, we’ve actually bolstered our repairs department to increase staff and reduce production time significantly so that we can address repairs in a more timely fashion. As for the lack of estimate receipt from our estimator, this is unacceptable. We recently hired an additional estimator to relieve the burden of our current estimating department staff to ensure closer attention and improved follow-through for each customer. I am proud to report that we haven’t had more complaints regarding lack of response since. You should have received an estimate or an answer stating that we would not be able to deliver the estimate before your required insurance deadline in the spirit of clear, consistent communication. We take pride in being accessible to our customers and providing them with top-notch service and quality improvements, and while we did deliver on quality work for you, we didn’t deliver the communication you expected. Thank you for your review and your feedback has not gone unnoticed. We greatly appreciate your business, and we are glad that you were happy with the work we performed for you. The work done was excellent. The new skylights look and work great. It took a while for the sales associate to come out and look at what needed to get done and get back to us with and estimate. (He admitted to my husband that the company has been extremely busy.) I'd say about 2.5 weeks total from the time I called to the time I was emailed the estimate. He was very friendly though and worked with our insurance company to make sure it was covered under our homeowners policy. The workers were also very polite and professional and took the time to show us how to work the new skylights and talked to us about another job we needed done. My only complaint was with payment. I paid with a check to the workers when the job was completed on a Friday, but on the following Tuesday the office called me asking for payment. I had to tell them I had already paid. I also received a call from another employee (the original sales associate) asking again for payment. I found this very aggravating considering I paid when the work was done.
Spencer, Mark and Jimmy worked very well together as a team. Spencer was in charge of Quality Assurance, Mark built the portico and Jimmy installed new interior steel doors, storm doors and new door frames. There was some delay in the doors coming in, and some minor miscommunication about the storm doors and hardware, but everyone was very responsive and stood by their promises to deliver. We have also had several compliments from the neighbors about how good everything looks. We would absolutely use them again and recommend them without hesitation.

Ferris Home Improvements extensively remodeled our kitchen. The two who did most of the work were Francis Biddle and Joey Pierce. The job they did was outstanding. Francis and Joey combine two key qualities. First, they are highly competent. Second, they are always willing to do even a little extra to get the best possible results. For example, with our job several unexpected problems arose, such as a wall we had planned to remove that turned out to bel oad-bearing, and had to stay where it was. But they managed to come up with, and implement alternative plans that worked out at least as well as what we had originally planned. Ferris Home Improvements deserves and gets our highest recommendation.

I needed to find a contractor to do a complete tear off of existing roof shingles & damaged sheathing while at the same time possibly adding a portico on front of house. Was hoping to find a company that I could work with now, then call on again in a few years to re-side my house and possibly do some interior work too. Based on Angie's List reviews it looked like Ferris was an excellent candidate so I made an appointment to have someone out to give me an estimate. 25 mins after the scheduled meeting time and not having heard anything from anyone, I called and left a message on the office line since it was after business hours. Within 10mins Casey, who was my estimator, called apologizing profusely saying he got hung up on a job and was running late. Things happen and I understand situations arise, however I don't understand why I wasn't called ahead of time and notified of the delay. I'm sure he knew he was running late prior to our meeting time and could have made a call, but even though I felt not been given a heads up to a delay is pretty bad business, I still had him come out thinking it must have been a fluke.... all the glowing reviews on Angie's List can't be wrong!?!? Once he arrived and again apologized profusely, we walked around and I showed him the scope of work to be done. He seemed knowledgeable enough and was pleasant to deal with. My roofing project has several aspects that are a 'must be done' and other aspects that are a 'might be done' based on price and budget. Casey spent some time that evening, he seemed to listen to my list of needs & wants I thought, and had done a pretty good job alleviating my initial dissatisfaction by the end of the appointment. When leaving he said he'd have an estimate back to me by the end of that week. I told him no rush, holiday weekend and all, just get back to me the following week. I emailed him the following Wed asking how the estimate was coming, he said he have something back to me by Sat 4/26. That was over a week ago and I've heard nothing since. I guess they either didn't need or want my business.

[member name removed], We are very sorry to hear that you were unhappy with your estimate experience with us. It sounds like we could have been a great fit for your needs, and we’re sorry you decided to go with someone else. After reading your response, we immediately took action to correct the communication breakdown. I personally sat down with the representative, and we created a plan of action for him to better provide a heads up to any customers for whom he might be running late. You are right. You should have been informed as soon as he recognized that his appointment would be exceeding our usual time allotment, and he agreed to improve upon it moving forward. I am glad to hear that you felt our estimator was knowledgeable and friendly, but I was disappointed to hear that he didn’t deliver on the expectation for your estimate’s delivery date. Again, that is not acceptable practice within our company, and he was reprimanded for his lack of timely communication. Our estimators are human, and although we share your feeling that “situations arise”, ultimately he failed at delivering upon our Ferris Home Improvements expectations for an excellent customer experience. We take this very seriously and addressed this immediately with this estimator. I sincerely apologize for your negative experience, and I hope you provide us an opportunity to perform work for you in the future. I am so confident that our service and quality of work performed will “WOW” you that you’ll call us again and again. I thank you for your feedback, and I hope you enjoy the rest of your summer. It is customers like you that make us a better company every day! Sincerely, Walter Ferris President

All went very well, appointments were kept on time. copies of licenses, etc were presented in the first meeting, did not have to ask for them. Trucks and vehicles were clean and well kept, (no magnetic signs) The different guys for the different jobs were all very nice and mannerly, and most important cleaned up very well after the jobs were completed. Was especially impressed by James and Jim who installed the windows, they have to be the best window installers in Delaware!!!They had the job done in no time, they are a well oiled team...each know what the other needs. They stayed and made sure I knew how to operate the windows, even though they had a very long day. I had to call James back because I had a slight problem tilting out the window, he came right back and showed me again, said to call anytime and he would come back if there were any problems no matter how small. Not used to such wonderful service from a top-notch company like Ferris. I have already referred several people
Description of Work: re-roofed area over sunroom, approx. 22x15 ft., using rubber guaranteed roof. cleaned, repaired front and back gutters and installed gutter covers (rhino system) and removed and installed 6 double hung, tilt out windows, all vinyl.
Work began as scheduled and finished roughly on time. The crew was prompt, flexible, courteous and efficient. They left the area thoroughly swept and picked-up daily. Account Relationship Manager, Dave Cunningham, kept to his original price to the penny and served as an excellent idea-generator for several other home improvements we are considering. Mr. [removed member name], I’m very sorry to hear that you were dissatisfied with your experience with Ferris Home Improvements. Customer satisfaction is always our goal, but unfortunately timing this winter with the unpredictable weather made scheduling rough for coming out to fix your leak. Roof leaks can be tough to decipher when there is snow and ice on a roof, because it causes water to pool and ice that sneaks in unusual areas that can’t be seen initially when it’s frozen. We’re not perfect, but we pride ourselves in helping you solve problems with roof leaks as soon as we can identify them correctly. Once the ice melted and the roof was safely walkable again, we were there to help. We’re pleased to know the number one priority—the leak—was eventually fixed, and we’re glad to hear that you’d hire us again. We’re more persistent than leaks, and we appreciate that you noticed! Thank you for your feedback, and I hope you enjoy a wonderful Spring! Walter Ferris President

I called for an estimate and several days later Casey came by to estimate the job. It was small. Several pieces of siding had come loose in a recent windstorm and one had cracked. I had saved some of the extra siding when it was installed about 6 years ago - so I had the material. Casey gave me the estimate on Friday and due to the great marks on Angie's List I gave him the job without getting other estimates / checking references. The job was scheduled Monday and Matt arrived a little earlier than expected. It only took about 1/2 hour to complete. Looks great and price included the Angie's List discount.

.With the market seeming pretty well for buyers, I decided to take a stab and buy this historical gem of a home south of me with some much needed repair. Any home purchase, big or small, can be a stressful situation and I knew going into the purchase that a challenge was set. But it turned to be a little over my head. This is where Spencer and his team at Ferris came in. Needless to say, my experience with Ferris was extraordinary. I interviewed a few potential clients, but Ferris seemed to offer a package I could not refuse; genuine service and a great price. I had the opportunity to meet Spencer a few weeks before the job and gave him a tour of my home. Instantly, I could feel a good vibe in working with him. He was kind and honest. Spoke articulately and knowledgeably, and was extremely detailed and observant. He insisted on listening to my concerns, wants, needs etc. instead of just quickly offering solutions. I decided to give him a full tour of my home while helping to create an image of what I was looking for ? both inside and outside. It was both considerate and professional to be able to borrow as much time as Spencer shared. The estimate was effective neither wasting his time or mine. It became very apparent that my house would need to be repaired in stages, so Spencer even helped generate a priority list for projects. Overall, this will definitely create a stronger transition between home improvement projects and manage costs. After the estimate, I felt confident and knew I was in good hands. For this time, we scheduled a new roof. The project ended up taking less time than originally planned, even during the fall months. The crew was courteous, respectful, and worked diligently (which is always a plus). I knew that what I was promised, what was ordered, and what was being installed was the same. My requests and concerns were full priority to Ferris, and they made the apparent. Throughout the entire process, I was kept up-to-date and well informed on how the job was going. What was amazing was how well the project well; so smooth like a well-oiled machine. I could tell the gentlemen assigned to my house were well trained and experience. My expectations were kept with no surprises ? aside from the appearance of the final product! The roof turned out looking great! Better than expected. Aside from the yard sign, I would not have believed that the team was even there. Everything was cleaned up and disposed of properly. No mess was left behind ? not even a shingle. Tarps were laid throughout the property to catch any debris and nails. Furniture and plants were covered or moved to prevent damage, and they even sealed off a part of the screened-in-porch to prevent any dust or dirt from floating in. I just cannot express enough of how great the project went. As I mentioned, my house needs a lot of work, but I am excited to continue working with Spencer and his team at Ferris on the next project. I highly recommend Ferris for any project need! I cannot wait to be finished and finally rest comfortable in my new home.

Our home had experienced some damage with storms over the past year and we needed to have the siding replaced, gutters and flashing. We spoke with several contractors, 2 of which had been referred to me from business clients. All of the contractors understood what we needed but I was not comfortable with them, they did not seem interested in making sure that my home was repaired to my satisfaction. Lets face it we spent a great deal of money on our home and it is truly the only investment we have that we can control. After working with Spencer Malcom from Ferris Home Improvement we knew that we were dealing with a company that was not only interested in providing great service and a great price, but Spencer was really committed to making sure we were satisfied. Spencer stepped through the entire process with us. The work was great, right on time as stated and the price was right!!! We will never use any other contractor and I have since referred 2 of my coworkers. Thank you Ferris Home Improvement!!
Description of Work: We had new siding put on our home, gutter replacement and metal flashing repaired/replaced.

Horrible! It was one of the worst home repair experiences encountered. The contract was signed approximately mid July and finished the week of Thanksgiving. The Sales Rep, Spencer, is one of the most dishonest and unprofessional people I ever met. The schedule he promised was never close to being reached. The supervisory visits he promised never occurred and the list of excuses for not meeting the commitment he promised, unbelievable. He blamed the scheduling issues on the workers he was supposed to supervise. I had to go over many areas for painting/staining/filling drywall holes, that anyone could do. The company did reduce to the cost of the job for having to redo their work, but that's not what I was looking for. After several call backs, after we continuously found issues. The sales rep never did a punch list of the work to be corrected, he told us to do it. Would never recommend this company to anyone!

[member name removed], Thank you for taking the time to submit feedback on our company. I am deeply sorry to hear that you had a poor experience with your project, and I can honestly say this is one of the worst things anyone has ever said about our work and our company, and it has NOT gone unheard. I want you to know that I have posted this review in our staff headquarters as motivation to continually strive to improve our high standards for communication, quality, and customer satisfaction. Communication is critical to establishing trust with anyone, as well as delivering on clearly outlined expectations. We know and value this, and our rep failed in communicating clearly with you. We own this, and we have addressed it within the company. It is also easy, however, to find the worst in everything once you get a bad taste in your mouth. Scheduling communication for you did not get off on the right foot, but it is certainly no reason to question our employee’s character. We take that very seriously here at Ferris Home Improvements. We are your neighbors, and we will say hi to you out and about town, and we want you to know that scheduling (out of our rep’s control) was never intentionally mishandled by our employee nor reflective of his “dishonest” person. He is in fact a wonderful family man who values honesty and understands that he gravely damaged his relationship with you because of his poor communication with you. It is uncharacteristic of him, but unacceptable nonetheless that he promised one thing and delivered another, and it is certainly against our company policy for the project manager not to complete scheduled supervisory check-in appointments with the customer. This failure is inexcusable as well and has also been addressed internally within our company. What needed to happen was what we preach here at Ferris – establishing clear, realistic expectations with the customer, then delivering on these communicated expectations. If our employee tells you he/she will be doing X, Y, and Z, then they are responsible for executing X, Y, and Z. No excuses. We do stand by the integrity of our staff, however, no matter what. Thank you again for the opportunity to do work with you at your home and for the feedback that continually helps us drive performance and achieve high customer satisfaction. Again, I am very sorry for your negative experience with us, and I hope you have a change of heart and consider us again in the future. I will personally see that your job provides you with the typical Ferris Home Improvements experience—satisfaction from start to finish, and a lasting relationship built on trust. Let me start with this, THESE GUYS ARE AMAZING. From the initial contact to the signing of the check, Ferris Home Improvements have been nothing but fabulous. When I reached out to them for quotes, the owner contacted me and gave me a warm hand off to their scheduler. The scheduler thoroughly explained what would happen next and set my expectations going forward. She then gave me a warm hand off to Spencer who was extraordinary. He showed up early, diagnosed the problem, and had a quote in my hand in about 45 minutes. He was very pleasant to work with. We set an appointment to get the work done for the following week and when the day came around, the installer was prompt with all materials needed. He worked for about an hour and a half and had everything installed and cleaned up by then. With the most recent rain storm that just went through, the siding has held up great. These guys were/are awesome from beginning to end. Thanks again!!
Description of Work: Had to have a large area of Tyvek installed under siding to stop the siding from leaking.

I interviewed 4 well known local companies for the job. David Cunningham of Ferris Roofing sealed the deal for Ferris roofing. I could have gone with two of the other four. The largest local contractor would not get the job because of a high price and a poor attitude. So I chose Ferris over the other two contractors because of David Cunningham. I can not say enough about David. A sweet-heart of a guy. Very thorough, professional, nice, a straight shooter, no hassle, no pressure, extremely honest and fair. For the amount of money I was spending I wanted a lot for my money and David and Ferris delivered with the final product. I am extremely happy with the quality of workmanship and the responsiveness of Ferris roofing from top to bottom. They made sure any concerns were addressed right away. True leadership was demonstrated throughout the process. Thanks Ferris!

They went well. I used them about 2 years ago maybe. They replaced my 5 doors, all my windows in the house, and rebuilt my deck. I do not really know but the estimates that we got, they were the best. They were just very professional. And when they put the windows in, when they were done, they completely and everything back up and the house was just great. I did not really have any issues with them.

The quote was $7000. They presented themselves in a very professional manner. I thought they were thorough. There were a couple of things that we didn't like. They didn't really communicate well with us. They told us that they were going to do things on certain dates and they weren't done. The start date was supposed to have been yesterday but nobody showed up. But they did come today.
Description of Work: We got a quote from Ferris Home Improvements. They just started the work this morning.

[member name removed], Thank you for your kind words regarding our professionalism and thoroughness. Unfortunately, weather can throw scheduling of outdoor home remodeling off, particularly when we have as wet of a year as we did in 2013! However, clear customer communication is always a MUST when it comes to coordinating our schedule with yours. Although it can be extremely frustrating to move an anxiously-awaited start date, it is especially frustrating when readjusted expectations are not met. We do NOT tolerate “no-shows” at Ferris Home Improvements, and I apologize for the miscommunication. Thank you for your business…your patience paid off for that beautiful deck! Salesman came out with big two hour presentation and then gave me a price. It was halfway between the two previous estimates I got and they seemed like a reputable company, with a good Angie's list rating so I decided to go with them. It was supposed to be a two to three day job but it took a full week plus coming back to fix mistakes. It was blazing hot that week so I understand they they could not go as fast as normal. Discovered after the roofers got here that Ferris SUBCONTRACTS THEIR WORK. So, I was paying extra for a "big boy" company and then got no-name workers with Ferris shirts on to do the job. First things first. The workers totally disrespected my property. It was real hot so each day I put out a big cooler filled with ice and drinks for them. They were appreciative but left the trash and cigarette butts all over my yard each day. There was a huge dumpster right out front but that didn't seem to apply. The skylights I needed had to be custom and then when they arrived they were an inch too small. So my choice was to wait a MONTH for new ones (with two big holes in my roof) or have them put the small ones on the roof and tweak them. I chose the latter. The day after the job was "done" and they "cleaned up" I stepped out onto my lawn in my bare feet and got an nail stuck in my foot. I looked around and saw there were NAILS EVERYWHERE. i pulled out at least 100 nails by hand and called Ferris. The subcontractor came out and went around again with the magnetic nail sweeper and got some more but my whole yard was still peppered with nails. By now the grass was getting really long (you don't want to mow nails) and I was getting really mad. Finally, the salesman came out swept for nails, mowed, and then swept again. Note, he wasn't getting the final check until this was done. We estimated that the roofers LEFT OVER 300 NAILS in my lawn. Finally all the nails were gone and I paid. First rain the skylight leaked. The contractor came out and did a quick fix and promised no more leaks. Second rain the skylight leaked again. Contractor, project manager and the whole team came out and fixed it again. It appears to be ok now. There were a couple of other smaller problems which were eventually fixed. They were also supposed to provided caps for my chimney. I nagged them and they installed one and said the other had not come in. It's been a month and I have not heard back. Anyway, if you want to pay good money for subcontractors to spread nails and trash over your yard then Ferris is a good choice. Note, I'm not a nit picker and I know there are difficulties and set backs on any large job. I would have loved to write a good review for a good job. But this was totally unacceptable. The few people who actually work for Ferris do good work and they do respond when there is a problem but the subcontractor was not what I paid for. I don't recommend Ferris and I would not call them again.

[member name removed], I am very sorry to hear about your negative experience with us. Although we have already addressed your concerns internally since you posted this review, I wanted to formally address your concerns online as well. As soon as we heard about your disgust with the way in which our team treated your home, we contacted you immediately to remediate your concerns. The nails and cigarette butts were completely unacceptable, and since our conversation I have decided to part ways with this partner with which we have worked with in the past. You were not pleased with your experience, and we heard you loud and clear. Home remodel projects frequently have setbacks, and mistakes do happen from time to time, but it sounds like you were prepared for that in your home remodel project. Poor communication regarding remediation of these setbacks is unacceptable. We pride ourselves on keeping our customers informed and updated when these setbacks do arise, and clearly we didn’t deliver on your expectations. As a result of your dissatisfaction, we made some internal adaptations to improve upon these failures and I’m confident they were isolated events from which we have grown. Follow up for the chimney caps was a failure on us as well. We failed at communication and delivering a quality cleanup, and we owe you a sincere apology. Although I know we can’t change your poor experience now, we are proud to say we have not had any complaints about these issues since we took your feedback to heart. I know I thanked you previously, but I thank you again for your honest remarks. We ARE listening. What I hope anyone reading this response takes away from this is that we were committed to addressing your concerns immediately and correcting them to your satisfaction. We did eventually rectify the skylight leak, and our rep even came out and personally swept the lawn for nails, mowed your lawn, and swept for nails again. When you contacted us with a concern, we responded right away. I am not proud of the way this job took place and I am especially disappointed with the fact that one of our customers was ever dissatisfied with our company. As for your comments regarding subcontractors, yes, like most roofing contractors in the industry, we share our roofing work ONLY with valued partners with whom we have a long-standing, good relationship. They are technically subcontractors, but they reserve their entire schedule for our jobs. Our partners all undergo the same exact training and certification, have established the same level of commitment to customer satisfaction, and they have demonstrated excellence in our rigorous quality control and safety standards for years. Anyone can have a bad day, and unfortunately that’s what happened with the crew on your job. Although the heat can be oppressive, it is NO EXCUSE for slacking in quality control. Keep in mind that our company offers superior warranty protection compared to the industry standard because our product partners back our installation practices through and through. We are not just handed Platinum Preferred Contractor status (exclusive to only the top 2% of roofing contractors in North America), we have EARNED this designation. We have demonstrated excellence in roofing installations and replacements since our company began. Mistakes rarely happen, but when they do we will always make it right. Our numerous awards for excellence in customer service and satisfaction also attest to our dedication to the customer’s positive experience, and I hope we get the chance to knock your socks off in the future. Again, thank you for your insight, and Happy New Year. Walter Ferris President
