The roofing crew was friendly, hard-working, and efficient. They protected the house well while they removed two layers of old shingles, replaced several bad sections of plywood sheathing, and installed new roofing material along with much improved venting for the attic. This 6-person team was on site for 1.5 days. They did an outstanding job of cleaning up all the debris. The new roof looks great!
The next day a two-person team came to work on the gutters. This work involved replacing some rotted fascia board, replacing two long gutters, and installing gutter guards on all gutter sections. Like the roofing crew, these folks were also friendly, hard-working, and efficient. They also did an excellent job cleaning up.
We are delighted with all the work that was done. The workmanship is excellent, clean-up was impeccable, and Ferris Home Improvements was great to work with in every respect. We highly recommend them.
When installation time came, Jim and Preston were outstanding to work with. On the first day, there were storms predicted for the afternoon, so Jim was concerned with the risk of starting the job and having to deal with downpours while windows were out - he and Preston made sure that everything was unloaded and ready to go for first thing the next day, and he assured us that it wouldn't affect the schedule. To our amazement, they actually ended up ahead of our expected schedule and had nearly all of the windows completed before we knew it. Unfortunately, the sliding glass door that was delivered to their warehouse was damaged on arrival and had to be re-ordered, but we were told about that right away, and Ferris promptly gave us a new date to complete the installations. At no time were we in the dark about what to expect.
Lastly, the quality of both the materials and the workmanship was excellent. The new windows are a huge improvement over the low-grade contractor windows that were installed when our house was built 15 years ago, and they've made a noticeable difference in comfort on hot days. Jim and Preston were astonishingly neat in their work and cleaned up beautifully each day when they were finished. We were amazed that we didn't even need to do touch up paint on our windowsills. All of our existing blinds were able to be reinstalled.
On the day of our sliding glass door and foyer window install, we had other contractors at our home installing wood flooring on our stairs and upstairs hallway. Both groups worked well together figuring out the best way to complete the projects since they would be in each other's way at some point.
We will absolutely consider Ferris Home Improvements again when we have future projects on our home.
There were two major contractors involved in this project: XXXX MASONRY CONTRACTOR and Ferris Home Improvement. Due to the nature of the repairs, the two contractors needed to coordinate their efforts. There was a significant difference in the responsiveness and professionalism of the two different contractors:
* The staff at Ferris was extremely flexible, responsive, and well organized. Despite some drama and glitches with the project, Ferris went the extra mile to ensure the customer was happy. Ferris got the required permit without involving the homeowner.
* The experience working with XXXX MASONRY CONTRACTOR was frustrating and unpredictable. Quite often, it was necessary to contact XXX several times before there was any response. When there was a response or a visit to the house, it was often at unexpected times or with little or no notice. It was very difficult to plan my schedule under these circumstances. XXX did not get the required permits, which resulted in some extra drama with the Township. XXX was not as cooperative in working with Ferris as I expected.
Long story short, the difference between working with the two contractors was like night and day. I am very appreciative that Ferris was so accommodating in this stressful and unusual situation. A special shout out to Spencer, Mike, Pedro and the rest of the Ferris team for their patience and all their extra efforts!
In addition to the professional service, we were also impressed with the quality of the roofing and gutter guard materials used by Ferris. After learning more than I really wanted to know about roofing and gutters, I am convinced Owens Corning shingles (with their associated roofing products) & Rhino Gutter Guards are the way to go. This combination of materials was higher quality and a lower price than different materials/prices quoted by other roofing contractors. Ferris can probably offer these prices due to the large volume of work in the area.
We aren't from Delaware originally and struggled to find local people to do things we needed in a way that left us feeling that our money had been well spent. Before Ferris, we were always disappointed with the work that was done. The house looked so nice when Ferris drove away that our only regret was that we hadn't done it sooner, so we could have enjoyed it longer before we sold it. We ended up putting our house on the market in the Spring of 2014 and got an offer and sold our home after the first open house. We know the curbside appeal helped, and have to thank Ferris for the fact that the house looked great.
Our first meeting with a Ferris employee was David Cunningham. He could not have been any more patient with us. We lost count how many times he came to our home to meet with us as we decided what we did and did not want to invest in to make the house ready for sale. In the end, David found an incredible match to the older 7" wide siding that was on our home and kept us from having to pay the expense of replacing the brick or re-siding the entire home. He was always willing to "go the extra mile" to help us and even visited a house we were considering purchasing to give us his opinion on the work that needed to be done before we decided if we should buy it.
Next, I remember being introduced to "Uncle Mark" as he is called at Ferris. I appreciated his honesty in discussing the brick work. He informed me that they were very comfortable with the removal of the brick wall, but that we could probably find a cheaper company to replace the brick, since they did not specialize in masonry. The demolition, removal of materials and replacement of windows on that side of the house all went smoothly. My memory may not allow me to remember all of the team members' names, but Austin and the other workers made sure to keep the construction environment safe as I had small children still wanting to play in and outside the home. As David knows from the time he spent discussing the job with me, I don't like to spend money, which is probably why I rated B for pricing, but I compared their brick removal price with two other companies and Ferris was the lowest!
Finally, the first time I met David Cunningham, I remember him telling me about Ferris' owner, "Red" ("Reds" is how it is written on the website). He spoke about this being a family business and all of the wonderful things they did for their employees that went above and beyond what I have heard other companies do. I could imagine how fortunate someone would feel to be hired as a Ferris employee. I believe this must contribute to why the quality of their workmanship was at such a high level. I want to mention that I took my children to a local carnival shortly after the job was concluded. There was a gentleman playing a game very well and winning prizes with nearly every toss. My son had not won a prize, but really hoped to get one. Without me saying a word, the man turned and handed my son one of the prizes and refused to accept his money. As I walked away, my son remarked on what a nice man he was and I then noticed he was wearing a Ferris shirt and had red hair. I went back to ask if he was the owner of the business and tell him how happy I was with the work on my home. I believe he used to do work that involved fixing garage doors and my door had stopped working while the team was there and they fixed that too... (no extra charge). Overall, what you need to know is that Ferris Home Improvements has great people from the top down to invite into your home for a completely satisfying experience and for us, it was finally money well spent! I feel terrible that it took me this long to write a review here, but I knew I needed to get it posted, so I can feel better about calling for another job at my new home.
Once started, the job progressed quickly.
The dumpster did some damage to the driveway that they bulked at repairing, but they eventually did a minor fix on it.
They did a good job communicating with us and explaining things.
Overall, the project went well and the house looks much better.
"[member name removed], I’m sorry to hear that you were not satisfied with our service at your home. It is always our goal to find the leak and address it in the best way the first time—for both our customer’s time and expense and ours. According to our records on file, we did the best we could to bring you considerable savings and ultimately do the right thing for you regarding your roof leak. On March 16, 2012, we first came out to repair your leak for $575. And, it held up for 2 years, which is very good for a leak repair. You called us back in the fall of 2014, to let us know that the leak had come back. Although it the original fix was not given any warranty, we sent our technician back out—free of charge—to re-inspect the issue. We do not typically warranty roof repairs because the only true fix for them is to completely re-install the roof to ensure that the trouble areas are addressed appropriately by our own high standards for roofing installation. On November 4, 2014, the original technician came back out and tore out your trouble spot’s roofing, siding, and flashing and re-installed it, free of charge. And, your trouble spot was fixed. In sum, you received two successful service calls. Leaks are tough to wrangle, but we saw your leak through until it was resolved. All of our technicians, regardless of their age, are highly skilled and trained in their specialties. Although someone might appear young, it certainly does not determine their experience level or skill. We proudly employ staff and crew based solely on their qualifications and demonstrated performance. We take the customer experience very seriously, and allowing an unqualified individual to perform work would not help us to establish or maintain the excellent reputation we have built over time. Again, I’m sorry we don’t see eye-to-eye with you on this one, but I do thank you for the feedback. It always prompts a thorough review of our operations, which never hurts to keep things running optimally and keep delivering excellent customer service, which is always our goal here at Ferris. Thank you again for your feedback. I wish you the best in your future endeavors. Sincerely, Walter Ferris President"
A family member who completed a recent window replacement referred me to Ferris Home Improvements for a roofing/skylight repair and replacement job for my home in Wilmington, DE. After 3 well reviewed local roofing contractors visited and provided estimates for a ceiling leak I decided to go with Ferris for this job. Casey visited for my initial consultation/estimate and I honestly learned more in my conversations with Casey than the other companies combined as Casey was the only individual who took detailed pictures explaining each issue of my roof and clearly detailed the best approach to correct. Realizing this was going to be a bigger project than I originally expected, Casey took the time to fully explain my options putting himself in my shoes as a customer while another company seemed to be more interested in turning a quick buck for an easy patch work type approach for my immediate leak concern but let me know I would have other costly issues in the near future and would not guarantee their patching. I felt like the pricing was very fair compared to another estimate and I was thoroughly impressed with the Ferris crew members and how polite and precise they were especially with the clean up process. Mike was my day of project coordinator and he carefully arranged the logistics for a large dumpster and material drop off all on a tight city street in Trolley Square which was impressive. After the roofing job was completed Casey and team listened and recognized several concerns that I expressed and remained committed to me as the customer ultimately addressing and fixing each concern until I was 100% satisfied with the job. I will certainly be utilizing Ferris for future home improvement projects and have already shared my positive experience with family and neighbors.
six bidders. Ferris made the most cost-effective proposal, based on Owens Corning?s 50-year roofing system, which I carefully evaluated and judged to have a significantly better warranty than GAF, its main competition. In addition, Ferris offers a 20-year installation/labor warranty, the best coverage I have seen.
The project started on schedule and took about seven working days, over a two week period, while Ferris coordinated with another contractor who did the exterior painting, and worked around some weather-related delays.
The carpenter, the roofing, and the gutter crews were all hard-working, flexible, and committed to doing a good job. They were courteous, quick to accommodate my requests and cleaned up all debris generated in the process. Spencer, the salesman and Quality Control Specialist, and Mike, the Project Manager, were at the site each day a couple of times to supervise
the work and bring materials as required. They were flexible, reasonable, reliable, and pleasant to work with.
The project was completed on-time and on-budget. There were no arguments about various additions and subtractions, modifying the original scope and price. There were a few minor issues, such as a couple of misfired roofing nails, which caused the shingles above it to rise a little, a cracked shingle, and a slightly misaligned ridge-line (a cosmetic defect resulting from a slightly misaligned building structure), which were all corrected in a follow-up visit. Clearly, excellent performance like this does not happen by mistake ? it is driven by company policies, procedures, crew training and a corporate commitment to
quality and customer satisfaction. I am a satisfied customer and would recommend Ferris for any home improvement
project, on the basis of their competitive price, performance, high-quality work, extensive labor warranty and strong customer orientation.
"(Member Name), I am very sorry to hear that you were not completely satisfied during your experience with our company. Frankly, I completely understand how you feel. No matter how busy our team gets, the foreman should always come back to inspect your finished project. The foreman was immediately disciplined, as this is not at all acceptable protocol for our process. While we are incredibly confident in our workmanship, it is always best to check in with you and ensure you are satisfied. I thank you for your feedback, and I assure you that similar issues like this will not arise. We are your partner in home improvements, from start to finish, and I put my family name behind that. Thank you again, and I hope you enjoy the coming year! Walter Ferris President"
I then tried to get in touch with Ferris to do a more permanent repair on the whole structure. I needed a detailed quote in order to submit to my insurance company. Despite speaking with the receptionist at least 3 times and speaking with Casey Ferris at least once, AND giving them a deadline by which I needed the quote, I never once heard back from them. I found their service to be incredibly frustrating and unprofessional.
"[member name removed] I am very sorry to hear about your negative experience with our company. While I am thrilled to hear that the repair we performed on your roof has performed very well, I want you to know that I heard your complaint about scheduling the initial repair loud and clear. As a result, we’ve actually bolstered our repairs department to increase staff and reduce production time significantly so that we can address repairs in a more timely fashion. As for the lack of estimate receipt from our estimator, this is unacceptable. We recently hired an additional estimator to relieve the burden of our current estimating department staff to ensure closer attention and improved follow-through for each customer. I am proud to report that we haven’t had more complaints regarding lack of response since. You should have received an estimate or an answer stating that we would not be able to deliver the estimate before your required insurance deadline in the spirit of clear, consistent communication. We take pride in being accessible to our customers and providing them with top-notch service and quality improvements, and while we did deliver on quality work for you, we didn’t deliver the communication you expected. Thank you for your review and your feedback has not gone unnoticed. We greatly appreciate your business, and we are glad that you were happy with the work we performed for you. Sincerely, Walter Ferris President"
The work done was excellent. The new skylights look and work great. It took a while for the sales associate to come out and look at what needed to get done and get back to us with and estimate. (He admitted to my husband that the company has been extremely busy.) I'd say about 2.5 weeks total from the time I called to the time I was emailed the estimate. He was very friendly though and worked with our insurance company to make sure it was covered under our homeowners policy. The workers were also very polite and professional and took the time to show us how to work the new skylights and talked to us about another job we needed done.
My only complaint was with payment. I paid with a check to the workers when the job was completed on a Friday, but on the following Tuesday the office called me asking for payment. I had to tell them I had already paid. I also received a call from another employee (the original sales associate) asking again for payment. I found this very aggravating considering I paid when the work was done.
Spencer, Mark and Jimmy worked very well together as a team. Spencer was in charge of Quality Assurance, Mark built the portico and Jimmy installed new interior steel doors, storm doors and new door frames. There was some delay in the doors coming in, and some minor miscommunication about the storm doors and hardware, but everyone was very responsive and stood by their promises to deliver. We have also had several compliments from the neighbors about how good everything looks. We would absolutely use them again and recommend them without hesitation.
our kitchen. The two who did most of the work were Francis
Biddle and Joey Pierce. The job they did was outstanding. Francis
and Joey combine two key qualities. First, they are highly competent. Second,
they are always willing to do even a little extra to get the best possible
results. For example, with
our job several unexpected problems arose, such as a wall we had planned to remove that
turned out to bel oad-bearing, and had to stay where it was.
But they managed to come up with, and implement alternative
plans that worked out at least as well as what we had originally planned. Ferris Home Improvements
deserves and gets our highest recommendation.
