Carlos & team visited 2-3 times to make sure we were ok with the various materials, and gave us multiple suggestions based on our budget. Ultimately we went with 1 dividing wall, vs 2, based on the cost, and we actually like it better this way. It was hot when they did the work, but they stayed on task & were very diligent about the work. About 1/2 way through laying out the pavers, my wife noticed there was a bit color variation from what we wanted, and so they actually picked up most of it, and blended it in with another lot. Turns out that even though from same manufacturer, some variation is expected, and it just so happened the 2 pallets were from different lots, so they pulled a bunch of it up & mixed them in, so the variation was more natural, vs. a dramatic shift. About 1 month after they were done, the dirt around the edge of the patio and run off, and so we called, and they installed sod around the edge of the patio (rounded section), which solve the problem. I attached 1 or 2 "in progress" photos to show the extent of the work. We are in the process of adding a pool, so the yard is in a bit of disarray. But the point of the recent pictures is 2 years later, the patio still looks great, no settling, no weeds popping in, so they did great prep work & it has been awesome.
Description of Work: Build a walkway from garage to back yard, and then put a paver patio & wall at the base of the existing deck.

No work was performed because they never bothered to show on the day and time they scheduled to come out and give me an estimate. No telephone call, text, etc. Just a no show!!!
Description of Work: Planned on having pavers installed, however, they were a no show on the day of the estimate which was scheduled for March 6, 2017 between 1630-1700 hours.

It was somewhat disappointing. Some of the things that was listed in the deal, he really didn't take care of it. It indicated that he was going to put some chemicals on the lawn. He only did that once, because he really did not have the license. He was supposed to do more than mowing. He was supposed to take care of the weeds.
Description of Work: It was mostly mowing. He provided some weed removal, but not as often as I thought he should.

Juan and his son Jose @ Sylca Inc were TERRIFIC - I cannot emphasize that enough. They showed great patience and attention to detail in helping us with our designs; while making constructive suggestions along the way (we were very picky - and they delivered). They are a family business and it is apparent they enjoy their work. The crew was very friendly and personable; and the pricing was competitive. I solicited quotes from several local crews before hiring Sylca. Where most would not even return our phone calls, Sylca was highly responsive - coming out for a quote that night (despite many other projects). This is one hard-working crew! I do not often write reviews, but I felt it was warranted in this case. In short, Sylca is a business that you should strongly consider for your hardscaping/landscaping projects - I cannot recommend them highly enough. We will be hiring Sylca again for our next project.
Description of Work: I hired Sylca for several hardscaping projects at my home and am in process of finalizing another. I also oversaw the crew performing work at my neighbor's property (sister) - while she was away. Projects included 2 EP Henry paver walkways/porches, 2 sitting walls, and a large rear paver patio - complete with steps and lighting.

Description of Work: They built a 12" x 12" paver patio, moved various 5tall pine trees.
Great! Couldn't be happier, and I tend to be a little perfectionistic. Carlos was always quick to respond, very professional, had good ideas and guidance for me. He went with me to help select stone and when we couldn't find what I was looking for locally, he went to another location for me, sent pictures and arranged delivery. This was our second experience with him, and even better than the first. His crew is very pleasant, hardworking, and they clean up after themselves each day. We will be contacting him again when we're ready to make more progress on our landscaping plan!

Great! Juan Carlos and his crew had to coordinate the work with the installation of a gas line (which was delayed). Once the gas line was installed they completed the work promptly and to my satisfaction. Any questions I had about the work (care, watering) were answered promptly and again to my satisfaction.
Description of Work: Weeding and new fabric and stone bedding installation on the front landscaping of my home. A new gray flat stone landscaping wall was also installed. Also tree stump grindings were removed and placed at the base of an existing tree. New topsoil and seed with straw cover were installed and graded at the previous tree location.

I gave up and did it myself for $175 worth of materials (good thing that I could). It's not "trade grade" by any means, as I have no experience doing this sort of thing (okay, I do now) and I'm sure Sylca's would have come out better. But it's done and it's well more than adequate. You have to check it out pretty closely to see that it isn't perfect. So it's not a question of whether they do good work at a fair price (my earlier experience was that they do) it's a question of whether you can get them to do it. Very odd. As someone else said recently, if they don't want the work or can't accommodate it, they should just say so.
Description of Work: Well, I see why so many post reviews saying that they've been blown off in one fashion or another. Sylca did a great job leveling my patio a few months ago (flagstones had settled and shifted unevenly, needed wood-timber border replaced in one spot). Great to deal with, the price was right, the work came out great. I called Juan Carlos back several months later to construct a small retaining wall (about 20' long, maybe a foot high). He came out to take a look, said he'd e-mail me a proposal in the next day or two. A week and a half later I e-mailed him, asking what was what, and noting that the work needed to be done soon, before some adjacent paving (by others, on a shared driveway) could be completed. Never heard a thing in response.

Contacted them on May 11 about a hardscaping job: walkway, retaining wall, steps and handrail. They responded by email on same day and said they were interested in the job. A week later they had not responded to my May 11 request for appt for an estimate so I sent another email on May 17 with my address Responded next day and came over to do an estimate same day - May 18. Promised estimate in next day or so. Estimate came on 6/2 - two weeks later. I followed up with a handful of questions to clarify the estimate on 6/7. I did not receive any response and followed up again on 6/15. Still have not received a response. If they can't do the job or don't want to - they should say so.

The only Positive thing I can say about him is that he did show up on time to look over the job and give me an estimate for the work to be done. Which was on March 30th @ 6pm. I had read on this website that he could at times be hard to get ahold of even though he told me I could reach him 24/7 via Facebook. The quote was broken down into 3-4 sections giving me separate pricing for the hardscaping, tree removal services, and landscaping work. His pricing was not the lowest but also not the highest I had received and being that he had so many reviews on this website I choose to go with him because sometime the cheapest isn't always the best and it seemed like Sylca did great work per reviews. Due to the fact that I had heard mixed reviews with communication I decided it was in my best interest to delay the hardscaping and see how the company did with the tree removal services and Landscaping first. Had there been no issues I would of proceeded to move forward with the hardscaping and even planned on doing a back patio late fall. Here is the timeline of events that took place after. April 20th - Juan confirmed he could start my job on April 26th April 25th - I hadn't heard back so I messaged him to see if he was still coming the next day to do the job April 26th - Never received a call, text, email from Sylca and they never showed to do the work. I was going on vacation first week of May so I decided to wait until I got back to find out what happened. May 14th - I reached out to Juan to see if he still wanted the job and to see what happened on the 26th. Juan informed me that he definitely still wanted the job and he had family emergency in mexico and wasn't able to get back home when he planned due to issues there. He asked to give him a week or two to catch up on jobs he didn't complete and he would message me when he got caught up and could give me a time frame to start the work June 24th - I contacted him to see if he had a Idea of when he would be able to do the work because it at been a month and I hadn't heard back. He replied and told me July 6th he could come out and start the job. I asked him if all I needed to do before the 6th was to Purchase the bushes and plants so they were there for him when he got there. July 1st - Juan messaged me and said that he could meet me at Ronnys Garden World to help me pick out bushes and flowers and give me ideas of what plants were good and bad for my area. He told me He could meet me there Saturday July 2nd after 430pm. I told him I got off work around 415pm and could arrive between 430-445pm. He told me that was fine and he would meet me there. July 2nd - @2pm I messaged him to confirm I would be at Ronnys between 430-445pm... He didn't respond. I arrived at 430pm and proceeded to wait until 530pm for him to show up. He never called, texted, emailed me and to this day has not returned any of my messages. I tried to give him the benefit of the doubt but he has stood me up for the last time. I was very patient with him and the only reason the work wasn't performed is because he never shows when its time to do the work. I would have been okay if he just messaged me saying he was still booked up with work. We could of held off until he was ready. I will never do business with this company.
Description of Work: Met with Juan for an Estimate to have landscaping & Hardscaping done to the front of my house. The scope of the job include paver walkway, removal of bushes and trees, sod area of my front yard after tree removal. Mulch flower beds and replant plants that I bought separately.

On a Monday, we set a date and time for a visit at my home to discuss our needs. The visit was scheduled for the following Wednesday evening. On Wednesday evening he sent me a text message saying he was held up on another job and could we meet on Thursday evening. I told him I understood (though we had planned our day to accommodate our scheduled visit on Wednesday) and we then planned our day on Thursday to make the revised time work. He never showed up, never answered his phone when I called, and did not respond to my text message. Very unprofessional, and demonstrated no consideration to others' plans and schedules. I will not waste my time again.

He came out and reviewed what he was supposed to do, removing one garden and laying down grass, removing some trees and bordering a couple gardens with stones. About 75% of the job went fine. The other 25% didn't meet my expectations. The hardscaping he did a good job, but the other landscaping work was suspect. The one garden that he was supposed to do, I ended up doing myself. It didn't meet my expectation. He didn't put the landscaping stones in the ground, but rather on top. We went around the garden originally and pointed out everything he was to do, but it never happened. He would arrive on the job late usually, around 6 in the evening and seemed rather tired. I caught him halfway through the job laying down mulch, instead of weed block. He was not too happy at this point in time, but it was what we agreed to. I felt like I was a filler job for him and not his main focus. By the time I saw the job the next day, I realized I would have to finish the other garden that wasn't quite finished.
Description of Work: I hired them to do some gardening.

I can't say enough great things about Carlos and his crew. But before I go on, let me just say that if you do not hire Carlos to do the work you need to have done, then all I can say is that you are going to lose out big time on getting the best crew and work done for your time and money. Carlos runs a family-owned business and has been in business for over 15 years. He has completed jobs in Willmington, Middletown and Dover DE to name just a few. He is not high priced by no means, and totally guarantees his work. He was at my house overseeing and working alongside his family during the whole job from beginning to end. Carlos is very exact and has what I call detail-itus, meaning that he looks at and is involved in every detail of the job from beginning to end and makes sure it's done right the first time. Like Mike Holmes (diy television show-homes). The main thing that impressed me about Carlos was how very friendly and personable he was. He has a can-do attitude and will work with you every step of the way to make sure that your job is done to your complete satisfaction and done right. The other thing I must mention is that I am so lucky and fortunate that I met Carlos on a fluke. When I walked into EP Henry and asked the clerk "Do you know a professional landscaper who is reputable and reliable and can redo a patio for me?" The clerk said "Yes, this man standing right here." That was one of the luckiest days of my life. Last but not least, Carlos, thanks again to you and your family for doing such a great job. I am glad we became friends and I will definitely hire you for any other jobs and give you a #1 reference to my friends. YOU'RE AWESOME! A+++++ Sincerely, Gene DiResta
Description of Work: Worked diligently with me in acquiring hardscape material from EP Henry for patio and assisted in acquiring plants and trees around the patio and yard from Ronny's. Removed and hauled away appx. 300 sq ft of old concrete slab, laid fabric base to prevent weeds, laid down and tamped appx. 6 cubic yards crush and run stone base, spread and tamped stone dust as base for pavers, installed a 3 ft high by 10 ft sitting wall, planted (2) 10ft trees, laid weed fabric and spread mulch for numerous plants around the patio.
