Owner stated in conversation would replace all wire and posts and use new rails where needed. He was supposed to send me an outline. He did not. The job he did was not what we discussed. Small gate was put on wrong side, did not replace any wood, did not put in all new posts, new wire was only on one side. When tried to discuss he got hostile in text and cursing. Completely unprofessional Pretty much spent $1300 on a $300 job

The 2010 project was done super efficiently, and the fence is still beautiful. Our first fence project was about $2100, and the cost was similar to several other estimates we received. The fence is extremely solid, and hasn't shown any signs of wear. Scheduling was a little tricky -- I got a call at six a.m. one morning, asking if they could put the fence up that day. While that was terrific for us at that time (yay, new fence upon arriving home from work!), I can imagine that might rub some customers the wrong way. Our new fence (2012) is gorgeous -- split rail with wire, really well-set and nicely lined up. We had a few particulars regarding corners and existing bushes, etc., and it looks even better than we'd thought it would. Dale -- the owner -- is a little goofy, but he's really sweet, does a great job (or at least has done on our projects and the two friends' fences, as well), and definitely tries to give a good price. I hope we don't need to move again -- and hence, I hope we don't need another fence -- but we'd definitely use him again if we did.
Description of Work: We've used Blue Hen twice -- after a recommendation from two different friends with very different fences. Our first fence was built in June 2010, and is white cedar panel on two sides, with split rail/wire on two sides. (~$2100) Our second project was in August 2012, and is split rail with wire (we moved to another home, and needed to replace an existing too-short fence). ($2800, including removal of the old fence, but using some existing rails in good condition from previous homeowner).

Fence is made of good materials, but posts were of treated wood - which was not suppposed to be used. Fence is still a bit wobbly - luckily, my dog is only 40 lbs.Fence gate had to be removed and adjusted by a handyman.
Description of Work: Contract was to build a red cedar fence. Had to get them back twice to adjust the gate. Finally gave up and got a handyman to do it because the gate was not properly lined up with the fence and needed to be removed and additional hinges added. Got them back to add cement to the post holes. Every "fix" was an argument. Phone calls were not returned for weeks because "I haven't been in the office." This said, despite the "office" was in his home/residence. Had to resort to a certified letter to get any response. Shoddy work, price was good only if the work had been done properly - so price was "lousy" for what I got. Totally unprofessional - actually "yelled" at me because my 3rd message (first two went unanswered) -- done over 10 days -- was, "this is my last call, I will be taking action if I don't get a response" and owner said I was rude and mean. Give me a break! This company is run by a young guy who graduated from college and thought he could start a business. He has no idea about fence building, nor do his workers. And, he has no professional manners.
