Overall, this has been a long, drawn out nightmare from h***. Mr. Lewis is a master at trying to beat the system, leaving his victims to flounder for themselves and minus the major amounts of money he has taken from them. He will promise you anything to get his hands on your money, then leave you with either nothing, or a job half done, or less. In the criminal case I spoke of above, the total amount of money he had ripped off was between $60,000 and $80,000, closer to the high end, though I don't know the precise figure. You should avoid this man at all costs. Once more, I have far more than adequate amounts of documentation to back up every single word of what I have said above. I will gladly share the information to anyone who asks in an effort to prevent him from ripping off anyone else.
Description of Work: You will want to avoid this man at all costs. He has ripped off dozens of people for many tens of thousands of dollars. In my case, I contracted with him for two different things. One for a new roof, and the other for siding on my home. He demanded one half of the price up front, which I later found out, is illegal in the state of Maryland. In any event, the roof was put on immediately. Of the “roofers” that did the job, only a couple knew what they were doing. The rest were being trained as they went. In the process, they completely destroyed my satellite dish, did a sloppy job on the trim, and I later found out that they had never put flashing around the chimney. Neither of these issues were ever fixed by him or his people. In addition, after his crew left, I found over 200 roofing nails in my yard, along with other roofing trash. Additionally, I had paid $250 extra to have my 10x12 shed roof replaced. They said they would be back another day to do that job. It never happened. To this day, I still need a new roof on the shed. Then, there is the issue of the siding for the house. It never happened. He simply took my money and ran with it. Despite my many calls, all I ever got was one excuse/lie after another. At this same time, there was an article in the Maryland Coastal Dispatch (and the local news and papers) about a contractor ripping people off. Reference: http://MDCoastDispatch.com/archives for the full story. (Local Contractor Pleads Guilty to Theft Charges - March 21, 2008) Mr. Lewis was put under investigation immediately by the authorities. The Maryland Home Improvement Commission and the Worcester County Bureau of Investigation took him to criminal court (Case #5I00063992) with 14 people listed as Plaintiffs, myself included. Each time he would show up, he would bring minimal amounts of money in an attempt to get the judge to extend the case. This went on for three years. Finally, when everyone had tolerated it long enough, he was given a one year sentence, six months suspended, and serving time with work release. The judge informed us (the remaining plaintiffs) that we had the option of taking him to Small Claims Court for further restitution. When that ended, I personally took him to small claims court (Case # 0204-0000114-2010) for the remaining balance due of what he still owes me. I got a judgment and he was ordered to pay me the remaining balance. He said he would have it paid within two months. Never happened. I immediately placed a lien against his properties. After waiting over a year with no results, in April of 2011, I sent him a letter demanding my money by July 2011. In return, I got a very rude call from some kid pretending to be a lawyer, informing me that by Mr. Lewis going to jail (on the criminal case), he didn’t owe anyone anything. The caller clearly didn't know the difference between a criminal case and a civil case. I still have not seen a dime of the several thousand dollars he still owes me. While I had check him out prior to dealing with him, I didn’t know the right avenues to find accurate information that would have sent me running away from him. The intent of this letter is to provide you with the information you should check out for yourself. In this one county alone, Mr. Lewis currently has 57 legal issues against him, not to mention his extensive time behind bars. You can check these out at the link below: http://casesearch.courts.state.md.us/inquiry/ will show his criminal history. www.dllr.state.md.us/license/mhic/ will show that he doesn’t have a MD contractor's license. info@delaware.bbb.org will show he was kicked out of the DE BBB. www.baltimore.bbb.org will show he is not a member of the MD BBB. https://web.oag.state.md .us will show the complaints against him at the MD Attorney General’s Office. When Mr. Lewis did this to me, he was doing business as “Jimmy Lewis Roofing”, out of Ocean City, MD. He changes his company name often, but is currently doing business as “Affordable Roofing & Renovation & Masonry” out of Harbeson, DE. While I have documentation supporting everything I have said, I urge you to check him out thoroughly for yourself and make your own decisions. And just for the record, he still owes many people many thousands of dollars. Reference: http://casesearch.courts.state.md.us/judgement to see for yourself. Don’t be another of his victims.
