The job was done, but overall we are displeased because of the way in which the costs were upscaled significantly mid-stream in the process without updated written estimates or consultations done until after the work was done. We feel like the original work scoped was more than doubled and feel that an elderly disabled veteran was taken advantage of. The original estimate for the recommended tar and chip (did not recommend asphalt because of upkeep costs) was less than $5k when given to elderly disabled father-in-law. We the family consulted with him over the phone about these costs. Once the work had begun he was told there would be more backfill soil need to ensure the grading was done correctly, but was not told what the costs for that would be. The family was not called or any updated estimate in writing given. The costs went from 5 to 11k and we were not told the costs would be 11k until the work was done. We feel like the costs which were more than double the original scope were unwarranted. We also feel we could have gotten better estimates from other vendors if the estimates had been realistic at the beginning, or changes could have been made mid-stream to lower the costs if we had known what was happening. i.e. We feel we would not have scoped an 11k short driveway and turn around of chip (a cheaper product than asphalt) and feel taken advantage of since all of the costs were not agreed to in advance or even in writing mid steam.
