It went fairly smoothly. Matt had most of the details preplanned. Of course in this sort of construction there are always some unknown variables that may cause some deviation from the original plan, but Matt is very good at improvisation. He knows his business very well. Matt listen to my concerns about making the system as unobtrusive as a system of this nature can be both inside and out of the house. Things were pretty well camouflaged or made to look like other common functions: in my case a rain downspout. He pays attention to detail. I very pleased with the result.

Matt was stellar to work with. I had gotten other quotes for almost twice as much that included a lot of unnecessary work. I was relieved when I saw Matt's proposal and he even went as far as patching concrete in our basement where our 100yr old slab had cracked away. Matt was very thorough in his explanation of the work to be done and was meticulous in the installation as well. The guys did a great job, for a great price and reduced our radon by near 95%.

I contacted Matt from Next Step through the information provided during my research on Angies List. We were in the process of closing on a new home which did not have a radon system installed. Matt was punctual and a pleasure to work with - he made time to come to our house with the builder to initially look over the property and see what needed to be completed. Once we had the inspection completed and closed/ moved into the home, I contacted Matt again and he was more than accommodating to service the installation of the system. They have a great company dedicated to high customer service satisfaction and we will definitely use them again in the future! Thanks Matt & Heather. It was a pleasure dealing with you both ~

Very well, we had been doing some research on Angie's list and we were very impressed with the reviews, our realtor recommended Next Step as well. The seller of our townhouse also had been looking for Radon systems as well and was ready to hire another company that just provided a phone quote and promised work that could not be done. We held out to have Matt do the work as this system was going to be installed after the closing of the sale and we were paying for part of it. We're glad we did. Matt was available for questions about the installation of the system after he went to the house and inspected it for the quotation (we were not able to be there with him for the quote). He dedicated the entire day to our installation so that there would be no rush to finishe it and move on to the next job. He was very professional and explained everything to my wife. Heather in the office was great to deal with as well. The system was color matched to the siding and it blends in very well. The Radon level in the house went from over 10 pCi/L to 0.7 after the system was installed and the follow-up testing was done. We highly recommend them.

Next Step Environmental Services (NSES) is a very easy company to work with. Like most HOA's mine was no less of a pain in the a** to deal with so I had to put off this job twice since I needed to get authorization and all kinds of acts of congress for the installation. Heather from NSES was very patient and extremely easy to deal with, Scott who does the installs and estimates was a pleasure to deal with and the recommendations / work done was flawless. Since paint color was a big issue at my development Scott made sure to have the right color for the outside piping. Scott was also a very clean worker I could tell he was very comfortable doing the work. I also had some reservations about the location of the pipe inside my finished basement Scott actually made sure that it was in a spot that would not interfere with my plans to build out an office and even gave me some recommendations on how to box the pipe in and instructions on keeping the 'suction gauge' visible. You get what you pay for and as far as I am concerned, NSES is my remediation company going forward. See pictures for work samples.

Next Step Environmental Services LLC successfully remediated mild radon levels in basement. Initial evaluation and follow-up work were extremely punctual and workmanship was superior and as aesthetic as possible. Success of remediation validated through third party lab test and real-time monitoring system. Not only does basement have less radon, basement humidity has been reduced and air quality improved.

I was beyond pleased with the work done. Both Matt and Heather really try to do all that they can to make the transaction as user friendly as possible. This was so refreshing as it is not the case with too many businesses these days. They moved their schedule around to help out getting ours done ASAP. Everything was explained beforehand and the work done, exactly as explained. The whole transaction was VERY professional. The Angie's "coupons" were honored in the final payment. We were VERY pleased.

I call and Mark came right out at the end his work day, He inspected the basement to figure out the best coarse of action to get this done in the most effective way. I explain the house was sold and needed this completed in less than 3 weeks. He provided the estimate that evening via e-mail and was very reasonable. They came out the day they said they would and completed the job in about a half a day. I was very please. The test came back with nearly no radon detected.

The customer service is outstanding. Heather is great to deal with, she was able to work around our schedule for the estimate and the job, and was extremely helpful with answering all of my questions along the way. Our original radon level was a 6.0. Matt installed a double tap mitigation system in our basement as well as properly sealing any entry points for the radon. The system looks great and the piping is out of the way and does not interfere with any storage areas. The fan is very quiet, you can hardly hear it. The total job only took a few hours to install and he cleaned up after himself . The radon level in our basement is now a 0.5 - which is way below the EPA limit, so I am very happy. I would highly recommend this company.

The company did a very good job of installing a radon system in the house. What helped me make the decision to utilize them was their ability to give options on where and how the installation was done. They did not just put up the normal system along the side of the house but suggested that it be put in the attic area of the garage where it would be hid from sight. That was very accommodating for me as a homeowner. They were also very competitive as to pricing. Less than the other bid who did not even suggest the alternative installation option. Workmen were very professional as well. Job was completed on time within their time estimate too.

I cannot tell you how much I appreciate the professionalism of Matt and Heather at Next Step Environmental. I began to suspect that I had a more serious mold problem than I initially thought when I bought my home. I called Matt to see what could be done; he had installed my radon remediation system, and I knew he did mold remediation as well. His first question to me was whether or not I had had a mold inspection done. When I said no, he told me that if he wanted me to consider his company for doing the work, someone else would need to do the inspection because it would be a conflict of interest for him to both do the inspection and perform the remediation service. How ethical! That was NOT my experience with other contractors in this process. When I talked to Matt after the inspection report came back, his schedule was quite busy, so he recommended two different contractors that he felt comfortable referring me to. I contacted both, heard back from one, and have chosen to work with that company (after speaking with 3 other companies as well). Ethical business, professional service. I would highly recommend Next Step Environmental!

Contacted company for an appointment to get an estimate. Owner Matt Winslow came out on 8/5/13 and reviewed our situation. We had done a long-term radon test and received a result of 9.2pCi/L. He recommended the installation of an Active Soil Depressurization System and explained the workings of the system in detail and how it could be installed in our basement situation. We had an estimate that day by email. After getting answers to a few questions, we agreed to the estimate and we were contacted by the office staff to set up an appointment for 8/16/13. Mr. Winslow and his assistant arrived on time and went right to work. They kept me informed during the whole process including the selection of the location for holes to be dug in the basement floor for the collection chambers, electrical connections and the radon fan and exhaust stack. Job took about 5 hours. Everything was cleaned up, all systems were explained again and a post-mitigation radon test kit was provided. At this point we are very satisfied with the services provided. We will follow up with a further report after the post-remediation radon results are in.

It went exceedingly well...see above!
Description of Work: First, I can't say how much I appreciated Matt's professionalism. When my house was in negotiation for post-inspection issues, Matt took his after hours time on a holiday weekend to help me determine what radon remediation might cost. He gave me an amount to request to be put into escrow by the sellers and he would do the job through them after closing, IF I selected him. Of course, I did end up choosing to go with him. And I was very pleased with every aspect of the job. He then came out the week of closing to do a detailed inspection in order to give a firm estimate; it is that number that I listed here. He worked directly with the sellers, however, for payment; but, he promised that no matter what he found when he drilled into the foundation for installation, his final price would not exceed that amount. He beat me to the property. When the day came for the installation, he was early again. He and his assistant drilled through the wall at the best possible point for the system to not interfere with the aesthetics of my 1851 row house. He came with multiple options for the pipe system, but agreed upon the PVC because it actually looked the best against my round downspouts. He situated the fan above average reaching height to minimize passerby interference; the pipe runs up the entire length of my 3 story home and above the roof line. He installed a new sump pump and sealed it, with two J-drains to allow my condensation line and dehumidifier to drain without releasing radon back into the home. He sealed all of the gaps in the foundation around the perimeter of the basement. His assistant gave me detailed instructions on how to check the system and how to set up the post-install radon test kit. I'm running the test now, and fully expect to have acceptable radon limits in my basement. I began with a 6.3 radon level. Professional service....prompt, courteous, knowledgeable.

Next Step arrived promptly and quickly got the exact quoted work done. There were two areas that were dug out on the basement floor - sort of a 'double security' that the radon would be mitigated. Our pre-work radon level was as high as 8.9 and the retest was .5. Awesome job, very professional, and great to deal with!

I was impressed with the professionalism. At no time did I feel like I was being sold anything. The technician was very practical about recommendations and not wanting to propose more than what was necessary. He did some inspection of the components of the system and did a smoke test to try to determine if there were leaks around the foundation. His recommendation was to first test the current rason levels and then determine the next step. If the levels are low, why renediate. I found the experience educational. The test results showed the levels to be very low and remediation to not be needed at this time. But if I ever do need remediation or service, I will definitely be calling them. Even though it was only an inspection, I felt the money was well-spent.
Description of Work: Technician inspected the basement and the radon remediation system that had been installed many years earlier. He explained how my system was working and how it should work. I was left with a self-test kit to determine current radon levels.

I interviewed MANY mold remediation companies and Next Step was impressive due to their unique dry ice blasting method. I scoured Angie's List for recommendations, but techniques, prices and services were all very different. I did like how responsive Next step was and how quickly he provided me with information. Unfortunately, the $10,000 quote was way over what we were able to spend on the mold removal. If our basement was severe, we probably would have paid it to get dry ice blasted, but it wasn't so terrible to warrant this method. I would advise people if your situation is really bad, to consider this method - I was skeptical, but after some research, found that it's a good way to go.
Description of Work: Next step came out to provide an estimate for mold removal in a home we just purchased. He was prompt, professional and very thorough. He explained what services would be provided, the process, as well as what things I should look for and do (to waterproof the basement) even if they did not do the work. He was quick to provide a written quote and complete write up of what services would be provided.
