Jody's Plumbing

Everything went fine, as usual. I have used Jody McGurkin on many occasions and have always been highly satisfied with his work, professionalism and price. He has previously installed all the pipes to convert my father's house from oil to gas, including adding a gas stove and dryer and putting in pipes for potential gas grill. He thought of everything and we never had a problem with the conversion. Jody also installed a pump and a basement utility sink in order to correct a drainage problem with my washing machine. The washing machine had never worked properly since I bought the house; it failed to drain properly and frequently backed up water into the machine. A department store repairman told me that the machine had been installed incorrectly, and instead of allowing the water to run off naturally, the machine was forced to pump the drainage upwards, which would eventually cause the motor to burn out. He suggested that in order to correct the problem I would need to install a pipe beneath the basement cement floor to run it out to the proper drain (many feet away from the washer) and that it would cost about $1.000 (to dig up the floor, install the drainage pipe and refinish the floor). I decided it would be cheaper to replace the washer (about 7 years old) when I burned up the motor, and worry about the drain next time. When I consulted with Jody, he came up with the suggestion of putting in a utility sink and a small pump to empty the washer into the sink. It was brilliant. I love having a utility sink in the basement to clean really dirty things, and the washer is working like a charm to this day. No burned up motor and no other mechanical issues since having Jody take care of it about 4 years ago. Last week Jody replaced the wax ring under a toilet, which is the second time he's done it (it actually has been replaced annually since I bought the house in 2005 because the previous owner refinished the bathroom and installed a tile floor to replace linoleum, which added about 3/4" more space between the toilet and the pipe which connected it to the drain. Every year the wax ring would disintegrate and need replacement. Jody suggested adding an extension to the pipe to prevent the pressure on the ring. So far so good. I will tell you next year about this time whether it permanently solved the problem. But it won't surprise me. He's a great plumber.
