Delaware Moving and Storage was the first company I contacted when I moved from DE to NC in June 2013 as one of my friends strongly recommended them. Dave Sterling, the moving consultant came home for in-home estimate. He walked around the house, noted down the items in the house, said nice things about his company and left. Dave never got back to me with an estimate in spite of repeated attempts to contact him. I assume he was too busy or the company was incapable of doing an interstate move with few days storage. But I was never informed that they could not provide me an estimate. Luckily I was able to find another mover at short notice. Lesson learned: Never trust one mover or one reference. Get estimates from at least three movers.

In one of the more hectic residential moving scenarios, we closed on both the house we sold and the one we bought on the same day, Friday June 14. I called Delaware Moving a month or so in advance of our move as well as a couple other regional movers to get a quote for the job. On discussion we went with a two day job: moving everything out of our old house the day before and then into the new house after settlement in the early afternoon on Friday. Drew, one of their salespeople, provided a very detailed quote, including hourly rates for the 3 man crew and fuel surcharge with a final verbal estimate of the total, given the size house we were moving out of. Their rates were slightly higher (maybe 10%) than their competitor's but they had no enforced daily minimums as other companies did, only charged travel time and actual time on the job for both days. This put their quote at $1500-$1700 where their leading competitor was a minimum of $1760. Additionally, Delaware Moving was running an Angie's List coupon for a free "moving starter pack" of boxes and related supplies which made the choice even easier. As a next step, they sent Dave out to the house to give a more detailed, in-person estimate of how long the move should take and thus what the actual cost was likely to be. Due to the large quantity of boxes in storage in the basement and garage, his estimated range was a bit wider, at ~$1350-$1750, but he also wrote in a clause that regardless of traffic or other time overruns, the cost would be no more than that upper bound. He also arranged for our free boxes, including several wardrobe boxes with metal hanging bars, to be delivered. They did not end up showing up until the Monday before the move though they were promised by the middle of the previous week. But given my general level of procrastination I wouldn't have used any much before then anyway. There were a total of 40 boxes, 10 each of 4 different sizes and styles including the wardrobe boxes, plus two large packs of packing paper and a six-pack of packing tape. The day of the move, the crew arrived on time and quickly and efficiently went about loading the truck, working steadily with only a few breather/water/smoke breaks despite the ~90 minute torrential downpour and thunderstorm. They were loaded and on their way by early afternoon. I was to call the next day when we were done settlement, at which point the unloading time clock would start and the truck would be sent on out. On the next day, move in day, I called the company's dispatcher when we were done with closing and in possession of the house to have them sent on out to unload. The dispatcher evidently heard me wrong and didn't know who I was, so forwarded my message on to Dave. By the time he called me back, we had arrived at the house to find the truck already there, where they had been waiting for 15-20 minutes, having been dispatched about an hour before I called. There were also only 2 of the 3 crewmembers there, though I was assured a replacement for the missing man was on his way. On explaining the mix-up to Dave, he relayed to his crew chief that our time should start at 2:00 instead of 1:30, to make up for the time they were waiting but should not have been. The third man arrived at about 4:00, and they finished up around 6:00. At the end of the day we were properly charged for the two man crew for those 2 hours and the full 3 man crew the rest of the time for a grand total of $1372, well down on the low end of the estimated range. All in all, Delaware Moving did an excellent job getting us moved at a reasonable price. All of the mistakes that came up throughout the process were minor and easily addressed with no fuss. We unreservedly recommend them for your residential moving needs, though sincerely hope to not need to use them again any time soon, if ever.

I asked to have three people to handle my move, but only two came. The said the 2nd person didn't show up. I was given the two person rate before work commenced. The two gentlemen who handled my move were efficient and thorough. I was iompressed at how quickly they worked without taking short cuts. The entire move took four hours and I thought it would take six or seven. Great work. 10/10

They were on time. Their were four of them. We stressed what was delicate and what to take care with. They finished two thirds of the boxing that needed to be done. They also shrink wrapped the furniture and bubble wrapped the pictures and mirrors. They did a great job.

I have had a good experience with them.

Move wentvery smoothly except they got lost arriving at the initial location (I gavethem explicit directions) and delayed start by 1.5-2 hours. This set us backbecause the elevator at the 2nd location was restricted for resident use forlunch so we had to stop and wait until lunch was over before resuming themove. Everything progressed quickly once the elevator was again available.The guys were fantastic to work with, very understanding and cooperative. Itwas as frustrating for them as it was for me.

It went very well overall. The workers were extremely professional and pleasant. They made it very clear that our satisfaction was paramount. They took great care with our furniture, making sure not to scratch or damage it. They wrapped much of it in shrink wrap, which protected the furniture (but, of course, took some time and therefore cost us money since the fee was based on time, not weight). They took apart our beds and removed the mirror from my wife's dresser, and put them all back together again at the new house. They rolled up the area rugs and tied them. They never reacted with anything but politeness and professionalism to our questions and comments or to our request that they move a bookcase and a bureau when we decided we didn't like where they were. In short, we were very pleased with the job they did. And the price, relatively speaking (i.e., compared to the other companies' prices), was OK--though, as I said, moving is expensive. If there is any way you can shorten the time, maybe by dismantling your own beds or rolling up your own rugs, it will save you money. ,

They arrived on time in Texas, packed and loaded in an hour and a half. They did not off-load our goods into a warehouse as other companies we contacted said they'd need to do. They delivered our goods in great shape. They had to struggle up a very steep driveway in Pittsburgh but did it perfectly even with a very heavy china cabinet. They set up all the furniture and placed all boxes where we indicated.

They were excellent. Nothing was damaged or broken. They were very professional, on time, efficient. They were just very respectful of our home, our possessions, and of our children that were running around. We would recommend them to others.

My experience with this company from start to finish was exceptional! The office staff were professional, responsive and very pleasant. They were also accomodating and very clear on pricing and at the end of the day there were no suprise charges. The experience with the movers was wonderful! They were professional, quick, and packed my belongings with great care. But most importantly they were kind and went above and beyond!! On the day of a very stressful move they were Angels and my family and I were very grateful not just for the excellent professional service they provided, but for the care and concern they demonstrated during the course of the day.
