We went to the Home and Garden show in Feb. and spoke to several vendors about replacing the windows. We scheduled appts. with at least 6 of the window companies and all came out and gave us estimates. The estimates ranged from Window World's price of approx. $6.000 to one company that wanted $32,000. Our salesman, Linton Sherrard, was very nice and professional. He told us that we could get a rebate from VDMME for part of the cost and was very helpful in getting the paperwork, etc completed. I have had to call him several times with questions and he always responds quickly. We decided after we talked to him the first time, to replace the patio door also, and he came back out and redid the estimate. We were under a deadline to have the work done in order to qualify for the rebate and the company came thru with time to spare. The windows and door were in in about 2 weeks and they were installed yesterday. The crew was fast, efficient, and very professional. The crew cleaned everything up nicely and the door and windows look great. I am very pleased with the product and service and would definitely recommend them to anyone. You don't have to pay $2,000 to $3,000 a window to get a nice product.

We are very satisfied with Window World service, and thrilled with our new windows. We obtained several quotes to replace the windows in our house, and Window World was by far the least expensive. The salesman, Ken, was friendly, knowledgable, and gave a low-pressure sales delivery. He answered all of our questions in detail. We especially liked the fact that Window World has set prices for specific types of windows. Ken gave us an initial quote for what we wanted, but the price list allowed us to compare various options at our convenience. There was absolutely no pressure to commit as we found with a couple of Window World's competitors. One of the competitors warned us not to go with Window World for a specific reason. We asked Ken about the issue, he provided us with documents that disproved what the competitor told us. We ended up trusting Ken a lot. Removal of the old windows and replacement with the new ones took two days. Most of the work was done from the outside of the house, but the workers put plastic up on the inside of the windows to reduce the amount of debris entering our home. The workers were quick and efficient. Most importantly, we LOVE our new windows! We immediately noticed a difference with reduced draftiness in our house, no condensation on our windows as we had been used to, and the house staying warmer longer. If you have an older home, talk with Ken about the EPA regulations on lead paint, and how that will impact the removal of the old windows. EPA regulations may require you to stay in a certain part of your house while windows are being removed. This is something you will want to know about before the day the installers arrive. We did fall under the lead-abatement category, and we homeschool, so our kids are home all day. Fortunately, the intallation team recognized this and did their best to work with us throughout that process. When we had questions, we heard from both Ken and his manger, who were most interested in making us satisfied customers!

I did all the windows in my house at one time and then they sent me a letter about when to do the other work. I asked them to do the shutters and also ordered one more window for my basement. They said they couldn't find the window and I still haven't had it replaced. It is in my mind to call them up and order it again because I did want to have that window. They told me that they couldn't find it and that was the last I heard from them. My only complaint would be on their failure to give me the last window that I ordered, and other than that, I give them high marks on everything.
Description of Work: Window World of DC in Chantilly replaced almost all the windows in my home. They also changed the shutters on the front of the home and put in a pop-out window in my kitchen.

I decided to receive quotes from three different companies on having windows and doors (front entry and storm door) installed/replaced. The first company as a smaller, more private company. Their products were quality, but they were a lot of money and the high pressure sales tactics scared me off. I heard that Window World works with a pricing sheet, so no high pressure tactics, so I decided to call for an estimate. I also contacted a local competitor that does pricing similarly, but is smaller and local (Window Universe). Window World and Window Universe ended up being about the same price for windows but much different for doors. Window Universe only installs Pella, but Window World will install Larsons (what Lowe's carries), so they're a good bit cheaper. I ended up going with Window Universe for the windows (because I could tell from their responsiveness within the first 48 hours that they DO indeed have better customer service and seriously as low pressure sales as you're going to find) and Window World for the doors (simply due to the lower cost). Two weeks after the estimate, I finally contacted Window World because no one had come to take measurements. My salesperson (Lee) seemed surprised. By the next day, they had been scheduled. I then asked what the timeline for install would be. He said 5-6 weeks from the estimate. After 8 weeks from the estimate, I contacted Lee again. He, again, seemed surprised. By the next day, he told me the doors would be in in a week (or so, I forget exactly). However, two days later I was contacted for the install. This makes me think I'd simply been forgotten about. The installers came promptly within their two hour window -- scheduled between 9 and 11 am for a Saturday. They showed up at 9:30 am. They spoke a foreign language to eachother through out the entire install, except when asking me a question. They finished a little after 4:30 pm and we squared up with my balance. But then comes the unprofessional kicker of the century... While I was filling out the satisfaction survey, one of the installers asked me if I planned on using my old lockset. I said and quot;I don't think so...and quot; He then asked me for the key because he wanted to reuse it, I'm assuming for a personal use (there was a bit of a language barrier so I'm not sure). I gave it to him because I'd rather something be reused than thrown out but wow. That is just really unprofessional! All-in-all, so long as you're not in a major hurry to have work done, Window World was fine for the price. But their customer service really is lacking in comparison to Window Universe, for example. Also, the installers showed me that when the entry door is open, the storm door closes just fine (albeit hard). But when the entry door is closed, the storm door won't close all of the way. I understand this means the seal on the entry door is excellent, but shouldn't the dual-closers on the storm door be able to close the storm door gently when the entry door is open, and still close it completely when the entry door is open? I don't know if that is an issue with the door or the installation, but I thought I would mention it.
Description of Work: I had a Larson storm door, fiber glass entry door (with fanlight window) and the aluminum door surround/wrap installed.

We like the windows that Window World had installed. They have like a tint on them to keep the sun out and when your outside you really cannot see in. We thought the work was done very professionally. I would definately use them again for my kitchen door.
Description of Work: We had window world come out and gave us an estimate. We had a price estimate for a sliding basement patio door and a uptairs hall window with the half moon at the top. We like this company, the person Mike Carlucci was very honest with us about his product and he also notice that we had the same windows put in throughout our house from another company. These last two windows that we had asked his company to do was not part of our budget at the time the other windows was installed.

I was very pleased with Window World. The sales person, measuring person and installer's were all on time and very professional. Because the house is parged block and not stick built I was skeptical how well the windows would turn out based on the low price. I was really happy with the quality of the windows and the installation. I wasn't able to stay at the house for the install and I felt very comfortable leaving the installers there to work alone. They explained all of the functions and warranty prior to the install and when I returned that evening the doors were locked and the house was clean. I'm not always the guy that goes with the lowest price bid but in this case I got the quality with the low price which is very unusual.

Good and responsive from management side but the installers did make quite a mess and damaged some paint without offering to repair it. Additionally, some of the materials are already cracked and the frames are so flimsy it feels liek they are going to brake when I open and shut the sliding windows. The windows do work well and they really do keep the cold out and the heat in in the winter as advertised.

We used Window World of DC Inc which was on Angie's list. That was okay. We had some problems getting some installation repairs done. They had installed a door. They were pretty efficient and fairly knowledgeable. They had some problems speaking English. I think that confused them about some instructions on a door installation. They were very efficient workers. They were very courteous and professional.

Generally well. We interviewed 4 window companies. All four used fairly high pressure sales techniques. They said they wanted an hour and took longer. All four used the "if you sign tonight I can offer you an additional discount" routine. Windows were installed as promised. We did not get the installation crew we were promised but the crew that installed the windows was fine. We installed beige windows to match exterior of the house (should have done beige outside and white inside) and the crew was supposed to ask what color caulk we wanted. They didn't ask and used white caulk. In a couple of cases we now have blue walls, beige windows and white caulk. They have volunteered to replace the caulk with wite or clear silicone but indicated the windows would probably have scrape marks from removing the old caulk and we'd have to be out of the house for 3 days while it cures.
Description of Work: Replaced 12 windows with their medium grade product. Also will replace storm door. We haven't been able to replace door yet, first because of delay in manufacture and then because our schedules haven't allowed us to be home during the day.

never heard again from them. A second sales person came out and said that he would handle everything. And have the windows trim put in the way that we wanted them put in. Well he retired and no one is helping us. They started the work and have added additional expenses on without explaining how they are coming up with the amount. Spoke with the owner and solved the issue.
Description of Work: Salesman came on time for estimate for the windows and said he would come back to measure for siding. He was on time the next day, and said that he would work with his boss to get an estimate.. called him twice and he said that he would call back. Emailed the company said the salesman would call... never heard from him again.. They sent out a new sales man who was great

Our experience with Window World (WW) began with an in-home presentation and cost estimate on 21 September. This sales presentation was one of three we sought before buying. The quoted price was about half of what the other two vendors quoted. We signed the contract and paid a deposit on 29 September; the original windows were measured for replacement on 12 October; and on 18 November, we made an installation appointment for 29 November. However, late on 28 November I received a phonecall advising me that our installation date for the following day was being postponed to the second week of December. I protested and asked for the phone number of the installation scheduler which was given to me without any resistance. The scheduler agreed to reinstate the installation date but the appointment was delayed until the afternoon, rather than the original morning appointment. A phonecall to our WW salesman, requesting him to be our advocate, resulted in his agreement to do so and he said he could be called if other problems surfaced during the installation. The installation crew arrived at the revised appointment time and worked steadily until sunset on 29 November. During that day the crew worked constantly except for a one half-hour meal break. All 15 windows, two entry doors and a storm door were installed on the 29th. The crew returned the following day, on time, and finished the job by sealing the windows and doors and cleaning up. The crew members were all pleasant and polite. Language differences were a slight problem but the crew chief's English was good. The chief responded well to my requests; for example, he was agreeable when I insisted that a water resistant sealant be used because rain was forecast. In another example, when the chief asked for the final payment before all the work was completed, he accepted my refusal to pay until all the work was done. Although WW's promotional literature suggested that the customer need not be concerned about the workers diligence, I spent both days monitoring the men's work. To their credit, they accepted my presence and comments both days. I'm pleased with the finished work and I believe the project's good outcome is the result of the crew's work and my attention to what they did. My wife and I are pleased with WW's windows and doors because the materials appear to be of good quality and our house seems warmer and more draft-free than with the old windows and doors. I rated WW with an 'A' despite the scheduling problem. All the WW personnel were pleasant and remained so even when confronted with objections (mentioned above). My wife and I found this window replacement project time and energy consuming but the positive outcome was worth all the effort. I recommend Window World of DC with the understanding that the buyer needs to be assertive and actively involved in the project from beginning to end.
Description of Work: Window World of DC (actually located in Chantilly, VA) installed 15 windows and 3 doors in our home, on November 29 and 30, 2010. The crew removed the old windows and doors, and installed the new ones on the 29th. All were sealed (caulked) on the 30th.

We were pleased with Window World of DC. Thus far we have been very pleased with the product, price and the installation itself. There was a little lapse in communication. The day the windows were being installed there was a miscommunication with the the way in which they were to be installed. We were installing new siding with hardiplank and this company wanted to make sure the windows were installed a certain way. The Window World representative spoke with the representative from preferred siding, who was installing the siding. However, the day of the window installation half way through installing the first window the gentlemen from the siding company said they should have done it a different way. So, the foreman on the job did not get the word that it was suppose to be installed a certain way. Once this miscommunication was cleared up the rest of the windows were installed properly. We were very pleased with the crew from Window World. There was just that little miscommunication that caused a little delay in the project.

Salesman was on time and courteous for the estimate. Nice guy, and answered cell phone or returned calls promptly when I had questions. Perhaps a bit too lengthy on the sales pitch, but not a big deal and I'll chalk that up to him being young and enthusiastic about his job (nothing wrong with that). Window World is very reasonably priced so I was a bit worried about the quality of work. No problem there. Workers showed up as scheduled and did a nice job. Reading some other reviews on Angie's List I was concerned about how well they would clean up, but everything was put in order nicely. No trash or debris was left when they were done. Another minor complaint is that they used the wrong color on the exterior trim. When I pointed it out they acknowledged their error and came back the next morning to fix it. My one non-trivial complaint is that the crew leader's English was not up to par. I had difficulty communicating with him on a few exchanges. I don't demand that the Queen's English be spoken, but a crew leader should be able to communicate effectively with customers. Overall though, very satisfied with Window World.

This was the second company we visited. The salesman who greeted us asked us how old our house was. We said 1971 he then proceed to tell us how after April 20, 2010 his workers would need to wear all this gear because of possible lead paint (which is due to EPA regulations that he didn't mention). He then showed us the windows which cost $189. And showed us the Good Housekeeping sticker. That was a main selling feature he was highlighting. We asked about the $1500 tax rebate. To be eligible for that rebate we need to spend an additional $75/window. Then if we want grids in the window it will cost another $39/window. If we want the storm windows removed an additional $12/window. And there was another charge for the removal of the old windows. I asked how much installation was and he said it was included in a rude manner! For each question we asked there was an additional charge and a rude answer to go along with it. I It said lifetime which in VA is only 7 years he said here's the warranty READ IT! The entire time we were in the store we were meet with nothing but rudeness and short/curt answers. He had an appointment that showed about 5-7 minutes into our meeting and said here's the contract and I need to take care of these people. As we were leaving another employee asked if we were in a rush and why we were leaving. We said the salesman was rude/obnoxious and we are leaving. He said ok and that was that. We have never had such a horrible experience in a store before. We were treated horribly for asking basic questions regarding the purchase on new windows. You felt that you were dealing with a used car man and for any basic feature you wanted in the window there was a fee for it.

All ten windows were replaced in one long day. We are very satisfied with the work and quality of the windows so far. Few concerns: 1) It took about five weeks from the time we gave a 50% deposit to the time they installed. They didn't give a definite schedule. 2) They seemed to be a bit uncertain about how our transom windows should be replaced. We ended up not replacing them for now. 3) Not sure if the same workers would be the ones doing work if we were to have additional windows replaced this year. 4) If we need to utilize the lifetime warranty, it's not clear who from Windows World would honor it, next year or ten years from now.

I think they are ok. They are the cheapest people around so you can't expect certain things, but I do think they could have done a better job than they did. They didn't clean up after themselves which I thought was really shocking to have glass inside your house. I asked them if they were going to vacuum it up and they said they forgot their vaccum. I had taken my baby for a walk and when I came back they were waiting in their truck. I went inside and there was glass on the floor where I had all of my baby's things. I find that totally unacceptable. There was also glass downstairs and outside. One of the windows broke when they removed it which is fine but they should have cleaned it up. I had to make them clean it up. We are still dealing with them. The one thing I can say is that they keep sending the guy back because they messed up the vinyl wrap when they were working on it. They have sent him back 3 or 4 times. He was very rude when I first talked to him about the vinyl wrap. I told him things that needed to be fixed after he put the windows in (the paint was messed up, etc.) which I thought was normal when putting windows in. He said they don't fix those things, but that I could hire him seperately to come back and make the repairs and then I would pay him. I called the company and told them what happened. He was so rude and I had so many problems, but they just kept sending him back even though I told them not to send him back. He was so mean and kept pressuring me to sign the form to say the job was ok, but I wouldn't. I am happier now with it because I feel they are at least forcing him to come back and keep making the repairs until I say it is ok. I think it has been horrible customer service with my complaints and the worker is trying to cheat the customers. At one point I was afraid of him because he was so angry. No one ever contacted me to ask me what had happened after all the issues I had.

The sales representative was very nice and always available when we had a question. We received a lower estimate from another company and WW matched it. On the day of installation the crew arrived on time and finished the job in less than 4 hours. They were very nice and took out the blinds for me (but I had to put it back). The only thing that I didn't like is that they left the windows dirty, there is fingerprints and caulk stain in every single window and they did not clean after themselves very well. There were small pieces of wood from my old windows every where. The windows look great, except for a small detail that actually only a few people will ever notice: The white from the window is not exactly the same white from the vinyl wrappings that go on the outside window frame.

I felt it went well, although I will be seeing how the windows perform as the weather turns colder. The crew is very quick. I was alone, so I would recommmend two persons to be at home if possible. Description of Work: We had a good sales pitch from the window world salesman, but decided ultimately to go with WW since a good friend had a very positive experience. The price was right and the process -- except for the $$$ - proved very painless. The measurements were taken and three weeks later, we were called to schedule the installation. Installation went fine.

replacement windows

We had been needing replacement windows for some time and ran across Window World at a home show in Germantown where we talked to their sales people. I had previously looked at windows at Lowes and Home Depot and since we are on a budget the price/quality from Window World was attractive. When Craig came to our house for the sales appointmenty he was low key and explained things well and made some recommendations that saved us money. We had originally intended to purchase just some of the windows that we needed, however, my wife and I talked about our situation and decided to replace all of the windows. The installer and a helper came about 10:30 in the morning and were finished by 6:15 that evening - we were surprised how fast they were able to do the install. The installers were absolutely great - they did an excellent job of installation, cleaned up everything before they left and showed us how to operate the windows. Everyone with whom I have dealt with at Window World of DC has been wonderful to work with.
