Description of Work: I scheduled my windows to be replaced and the weather people called for rain and window world called to cancel. I am also a local contractor and doplar radar showed me a different forecast. So i moved obstacles away from the work areas, left my door ajar and went to work. When the crew arrived they called to ask why i wasn't there. I don't need a babysitter to watch me work and window world was recommended to me by a person who i trusted and who window world had done their windows, so i jokingly asked if they needed my help. Apparently not, without even a face to face interview, it was determined mutually they could handle the job without any supervision. The team captain told me the expected completion time would be roughly 4:00 p.m. I arrived back at my house around 2:00 p.m. and the team of 4 was diligently beautifying my home. I can tell you that nothing vanished from my home, so window world's crew for MY home was trustworthy. The job was completed almost if not exactly at 4:00 p.m. (go figure). I later noticed that 1 area of 1 window was not completely caulked and let their office know that when they were back in the neighborhood to touch it up. It happened without me even realizing it as i wasn't pushing them. About a year later, the window in my spare bedroom (which I very rarely venture into) had a crack in it (3 inch), and i called window world for help. The caller representative asked me for the window code which is ugly paper under the top sill that peels off (UGH). we finally figured out (with more effort than we both needed to do) which sash needed replacement. Window world wanted to arrange a time for me to be home so they could re-. install the new sash for me. Window worlds windows are so easy to remove that i didn't have to be home or hold them up putting a sash back in. They told me I didn't even have to give them back the broken sash, but I insisted so they could analyze for quality control purposes what might have caused the problem. I have since asked them to come back to fix the screen at there convenience that my friend's dog poked out. As you would have it and before you would think twice about window world had it fixed. I would highly recommend window world for value and integrity and customer service BAR NONE!

They have the "Good Housekeeping" approval. They have a great price. They offer a lifetime warranty for the windows and the screens. It even covers accidents. The turn around time from placing the orders to getting them installed was quicker then any one else. Vinyl color pallets are extensive.

I would say well. The sale went very easy, as we knew what we wanted and family members had purchased from Window World before. The installation went well, until we saw the sliding door. The sliding door was not the one that we had chosen. After insisting that it was incorrect and contacting the office, I received a call back in about two hours acknowledging the error. The re-ordered the correct door and replaced it about 4 weeks later.
Description of Work: They replaced 6 windows, 1 transom and 1 sliding door.

Bill was very knowledgeable and patient with all our questions. They called us 3 weeks after we signed the contract to schedule our installation date. Bill told us it could take 4 - 6 weeks for our windows to be ready, so that was a nice surprise. The installers arrived on time both days (nice!) and were friendly throughout the 2 days they were at our house. The reason I rated them less than excellent was because of the huge mess that they created. They used a sawzall to cut through the window frames and the glass (!!) in order to remove our old windows. Needless to say, this caused shards of glass to go EVERYWHERE. The yard outside, the rooms inside...we've tried to pick up/sweep up/vacuum up as many of the glass shards as possible but I'm still afraid one of us will get cut. Besides that, they had to chisel the window frames out of the mortar they'd been set in, so there's mortar dust over everything too. There are chunks of mortar all over the yard. And when they did the flashing (metal trim on the outside of the house), they left little strips of the sharp edged metal and bits of yellow insulation all over the yard as well. The cleanup they did outside was only cursory. The cleanup inside was a little better but I really wish they'd done things differently in the first place to prevent such a big mess. Also, they had to install the windows closer into the room than where the old windows were since the old windows had been installed in mortar. They covered up the old installation areas with flashing (which looks nice) but we've lost our window sills. They're only about an inch deep now. One more thing, when we signed the contract, we told Bill we'd remove the storm windows to save $12/window. Bill wrote that on the contract but when the installers arrived, they said they were still going to charge us because we hadn't removed the frame for each of the storm windows. And then, they had us pay that $12/window on a separate check ($204) made out to the installer. Felt a little like I was getting fleeced. Bill had never said anything about us needing to remove the frames. The storm window frames appeared to be part of the old windows, so I really don't know what they expected. This was a disappointment. Despite all this, we're happy with the windows.
Description of Work: We had 17 windows replaced - 15 double hung and 2 hoppers. Of the 15 double hung there were 2 multi-window units - a 3 window unit with 2 mulls and a 2 window unit with 1 mull. We have a brick house built in 1948 that had old metal cased windows set in mortar (not in wood). Also, 2 of the double hung windows were installed in bathrooms where tile that covers the lower half of the walls had also been originally installed onto the sides and bottom of the window opening. The new windows were installed on top of the tile in the window openings which seemed a little weird.

Very good experience. The salesman Mr. Lee was very nice. It took us a long time to decide which ones to do. We picked out the ones that we thought were the most important. Overall it was a very good experience. We plan on using them again when we can afford it.

The salesman came out and he did not pressure us into a sale. They informed us of how much each window would cost. Everything was laid out and itemized. They were done with putting in everything in one day. They went above and beyond by rebuilding a framing around a window, there was no charge to that. They have a lifetime warranty with everything, which we are going to use soon.

Product and installation were fine but there was a discrepancy about the final charge and the office and sales rep have been completely unresponsive. The original door that I ordered was unavailable. I agreed in a phone call with the sales rep to purchase a different door that was less expensive. He told me over the phone that it was about $200-250 less. However when the final charge was made to my credit card they charged the amount of the original door. I called the sales rep and billing office no less than 8 times. Neither has gotten back to me to resolve this. The sales rep, Rennell Jones, did confirm that indeed the door was $200-250 less than the one I'd first ordered. The office said at one point that they would credit my account for $60 (which they have not done) and if I had an issue with the amount I'd need to talk to the sales rep about it. I did that and am still waiting to hear back from him or his office but am completely out of patience after several weeks of calls.

We signed the contract on August 31st and the windows were installed on October 12th. The salesman was under the impression that all the vinyl trim on the front of the house would be replaced and so I ordered the same color to be within the homeowners association guidelines. However, when the installers came to do the job they only had two inches worth of trim available. Two inches seems to be standard practice and the contract did not specify. However, if you look at the picture it shows a lot of trim, more than 300 dollars worth. I had some discussions with the salesman who still thinks I could have gotten more trim, but decided on two inches of white trim to offset the almond color. All this took some time and kept us in limbo for a week but we do like our windows now that they are in.

Windows measured on 20 June, company called 9 July saying order had arrived and we set installation date for 18 July. On 17 July a rep called to say the sliding glass door wasn't in - we'd need another day off to install that. Crew of 4 came about 9:30 am and finished up around 7:30 pm. Installation itself seemed very good, clean up pretty good (screws from old storm windows laying around outside), foreman very courteous. Door install done by foreman on 10 Aug - took 7 hrs as it was very tight. Comments: First call didn't say whole shipment was not in - annoying. Have a small amount of weatherstipping missing off 2 windows - waiting to see how company responds. Hard to get phone number to talk to someone directly with a question. When trying to contact them for door info several phone msgs/e-mails went unanswered. We took off curtain h/w we didn't need to - more specific guidance on our prep would have saved us work. Price seems very good for quality windows.
Description of Work: We wanted 16 old single-pane glass windows (14 double-hung and two picture) and one sliding glass door replaced with vinyl, double-pane, inert gas filled, low-e glass windows. Contacted four companies for estimates: 1st company :Very responsive. After I provided rough window dimensions and numbers via e-mail, provided a detailed breakout of costs and window specs via e-mail. Est approx $7600. 2nd company: Very responsive, also by e-mail, not quite the detail as 1st & est approx $11800. 3rd company: Sales rep came to house - only one to try sales pitch of "sign today for discount off "normal" price." Est w/o discount approx $24000 and w/ discount approx $14400. By far the most expensive. Window World: rep came to house, very easy to work with, no pressure sell. Estimate approx $7200. All companies had very similar replacement vinyl window product with minor differences in solar heat gain coefficient, U-factor, etc. We got casement vs DH for 4 windows around 2 picture windows.

I had several companies give estimates. I liked that Window World gave a lifetime guarantee of the job and free replacement for life. They scheduled a measurement after I ordered. They offered two choices to pay and offered a loan, which I did not use. They then scheduled a Saturday for my convenience to come do the work. They cleaned, matched my house colors with the trim and caulking and left with no mess left behind. Very professional all day!
Description of Work: Came on time and worked all day. Cleaned appropriately and left giving me great instructions on the use of the windows. There were a few things I made in the comment section when I paid that they have not fixed yet but overall, I was VERY pleased with the product!

I responded to an ad placed in the Washington Post advertising replacement, double-hung vinyl windows INSTALLED for $189 (minimum 5 windows). I called the company to inquire and was assured the installed price was indeed $189. Unfortunately, when the salesman arrived and produced the estimate, it was DOUBLE the advertised price and included other items, related to installation and cleanup. Truly a classic bait and switch. Once presented with the estimate, I informed the salesman that I was not interested and I was very disappointed that this company, had wasted my time with their bogus ad. Don't waste your time with this company, because they are not up front with you!
Description of Work: An estimate was provided.

Response from Window World of DC Inc
WE ARE DISAPPOINTED THAT THE MEMBER HAD A BAD EXPERIENCE WITH OUR COMPANY. OUR RESEARCH SHOWS THAT THE REP. THAT SAW THE MEMBER HAD JUST STARTED WITH OUR FIRM AND THUS MAY NOT HAVE EXPLAINED OUR SYSTEM APPROPRIATELY. OUR WINDOWS ARE INSTALLED FOR $189 ANY SIZE WHITE DOUBLE HUNG, WE ADD SHIPPING AND HANDLING OF $11 WHICH BRINGS IT TO A WHOPPING $200 INSTALLED! WE HAVE OPTIONS AVAILABLE JUST LIKE EVERY OTHER COMPANY THAT SELLS REPLACEMENT WINDOWS. THE FOLLOWING ARE OPTIONS: LOW E/ARGON GAS, EXTERIOR TRIM, GRIDS, AND BEIGE/ALMOND COLOR CHOICES. REGARDING THE DISPOSAL FEE, IT IS OPTIONAL. CUSTOMERS CAN DISPOSE OF THEIR OWN WINDOWS OR HAVE US DO IT FOR A SMALL FEE. ALL CLEAN UP IS INCLUDED IN OUR PRICE, IT IS NOT EXTRA. WE HAVE INSTALLED OVER 46,000 WINDOWS IN THE GREATER DC AREA AND WE ARE ONE OF THE FASTEST GROWING WINDOW REPLACEMENT COMPANIES IN THE COUNTRY. A LARGE PERCENTAGE OF OUR BUSINESS IS REFERRAL BECAUSE OUR PRICES AND SERVICE ARE SO GOOD. PLEASE KEEP IN MIND IT WAS ANOTHER COMPANY 10 YEARS AGO THAT DECIDED TO PUT TOGETHER A BUSINESS MODEL THAT MAKES WINDOW REPLACEMENT AFFORDABLE FOR EVERYONE. WE THINK THE GENERAL PUBLIC IS BETTER OFF WITH COMPANIES LIKE OURS RATHER THAN PAYING $1,000 PER WINDOW. GREG DEATHRIDGE GENERAL MANAGER
