professional and timely, but $500 for less than two hours of work (and does it really take two hours to do those four things?), was simply too much. Follow up call with Stevens Co the next day confirmed that this was accurate and that $500 was what it should have cost. guess i need to find a cheaper provider.

The initial experience of the repaired pipe was not bad however I had also spent time with them to provide a quote on repair a pipe from our water meter to inside the building. They took all the measurement and never called back. I called back a week later and was told someone would call me right back and again no call back. I called again no call back. My final call was to tell them not to bother. Big waste of time.
Description of Work: The plumbers repaired a broken toilet pipe. They quoted the work for $600 however took them less time the their hourly rate would have cost.

Easy, efficient, fast, rock solid service. Could not ask for better.
Description of Work: Memorial Day weekend....easy fix to replace disposal.. It was easy for the person on call to respond to my stinking disposal problem. Old and worn out a new one was installed in minutes. Know what he was doing from the getgo. I had no doubts that he was completely on the right track.

Initially Mike only gave me an estimate for an expansion tank, but I decided to replace everything because the heater was old and it wasn't cost effective to replace the expansion tank now and then discover I would need a new heater. (I'd already had some repairs over the past few years.) When the plumber, Will, removed the old heater we discovered that some concrete needed to be repaired. He did this additional work despite the extra time required. It was a painless experience and everything went well. I'd definitely use them again. One reason I selected Stevens Co. is their 24 hr.service.

Called Stevens Co. on 2/25/10 to schedule service. I was given a window the next day between 10 am and noon. I requested that they call me when they were on their way out. the next day I received a call at 9am they arrived at 9:30 and were finished by 10am. The plumber triple checked for the leak before he left. At no charge, he also checked another tub to make sure there wasn't the same problem with it.

Called 2/8/1010 at around 4pm and got the answering service. This was during the aftermath of DC's biggest snowstorm in quite some time at 24". I left my info and they did not call back. Morning of 2/9 I was on the phone with another plumber and they finally did call, caller mentioned that answering service had given him the incorrect number. Told him they were my first choice and I would be home all day. He said they would call when the technician was on his way. About an hour later, knock on the door the guy was already here. No call, but I guess no harm no foul. He sized up the problem and attentively listened to my description of the plumbing as I am pretty familiar with the layout. Retrieved proper tool from the truck and had it cleared within about 30 minutes. Tested the drain by running washing machine and also filling sink and watching drain time. Total time start to finish about 1 hour. Service man was pleasant and I am pretty happy that they were able to fit me in during a pretty chaotic time for the city.

They showed up on time. Very friendly and professional plumber. Pre-warned me that the faucet replacement might crack a tile, but was very careful and the finished work looks great. All caulking was neat. Clean-up was thorough. Only problem was that one of the joints leaked and was not discovered until after they left. I understand that this happens from time to time with soldering. The office was quick to respond and the fix was easy. No water damage occured.
Description of Work: The pressure in my bathtub was very low. Stevens diagnosed the problem as in the fixture, but was unable to find the replacement parts. So I elected to replace the whole bathtub/shower faucet. Included replacement of cut off valves.

I put in an emergency call at 2:30 due to the leak from the toilet. The woman answering the phone explained the charges for an emergency visit and the likely timing for arrival. I received another call from the owner confirming that someone would arrive by 4:30, which he did. He did excellent work, had a wide array of tools and all the necessary parts with him on his truck, and could not have been more pleasant or professional. Excellent job. I would definitely use them again.

The connection between two pipes had corroded, which resulted in water leaking when the bathroom faucet was turned on. I received a recommendation for Stevens and gave them a call. While they said someone would likely be out around 1 in the afternoon, they were actually able to get someone there earlier. They quickly identified the problem and corrected putting in a new pipe. During our conversation, i also learned how Drain-o contains acid and if it cannot get through a clog will actually start to eat away at the pipe. They were prompt, efficient and corrected the problem very quickly. The two techs that were out were polite and professional. I even received a thank you post card in the mail.

The downstairs bathroom clogged up after a 4th of July problem. When it continued acting odd even after plunging it open, we called Steven's in to snake the line. They were able to come the day after I called and they quickly let me know it was actually a partially clogged sewer line and began clearing that. Mid-job, we noticed a little water dribbling out the front lawn that clearly smelled of sewage--not good at all. The line was now clear, but obviously there was a more serious problem. Steven's began working on a quote for a full dig and repair and came back shortly after to run a video camera down the line to diagnose the problem. Luckily for us, they discovered that the problem was on the city's part of the pipes, so they arranged for WASA to come make the repairs. Overall, the experience with Steven's was great. This was my wife's and my first major disaster of home ownership, and we felt we were in great hands the entire time. They did a great job keeping us informed when the job went from routine to huge, so we never felt in the dark or completely overwhelmed by the process. The prices were a little higher than I think we could have found elsewhere, but they were completely upfront about everything, including fixed prices for most routine work, and I felt that the quality of the experience was worth it. And even my mother-in-law, who happened to visiting, complimented the staff's professionalism during the work.

As I said above we were very pleased with this company. Everyone was competent, cordial, and the prices and services were reasonably priced!
Description of Work: We contacted Steven's for an estimate for 3 things we wanted done in April 09. We called them then to see if the estimate could be edited to do 2 of the 3 things, but did not hear back. Nonetheless after a few months and after our choice to have someone else do one aspect of the job because they were readily available to come while we had scaffolding up for some masonry work another company was doing for us, we contacted Steven''s to complete the 2 other task on the estimate. Not only did they schedule us within a couple of days, they honored the estimate for the completion of work in August 09. They installed a lovely new toilet in our tiny bathroom and installed a new sink faucet which we supplied. We asked and received excellent recommendations on which manufacturer of faucet we should purchase. We had researched another highly marked neighborhood plumber on Angies list, but found out that we would have to order and have a toilet delivered, and that if we worked with them we would have to measure the space ourselves in which the toilet would be placed. We did not feel competent that we understood toilet clearance enough to do this, so we were very relieved that Stevens had come to our home to both measure, recommend, and bring a well respected brand of toilet to our home to install. We purchased our faucet on line and learned during the estimate that it was important to have certain components of the faucet be metal and not plastic which would wear and insure early and additional repair. David was our service person. He arrived early and supplied his own shoe covers. He was personable and competent. He did the required job in a professional and cordial manner. Micheal came to our home to price out the estimate. One could tell that he knew what he was doing. He recommended a perfect size toilet for us on sight and encouraged us to look up the line of product (gerber) on line. We would use them again because they make it easy for the customer.to get efficient work done on their home at a reasonable and competetive price.

We originally scheduled Stevens Co to repair a leak in the pipe under our kitchen sink and snake all the lines in the house we'd just bought. They did that, but also discovered our toilet was leaking underneath. Through a series of phone calls (we weren't home at the time), we were able to have them fix the toilet issue as well, although it was a lot more involved then we originally understood. They did work hard to complete the job so that we could have a working toilet by the end of the day, and also gave us a little discount because of the unexpected work and time. However, we didn't hear back from them for over a month as to how much we owed them (I called a couple of times, was told they had computer issues and were still trying to figure out how much we owed.) We'd given up on hearing from them, when we finally received a call telling us how much we owed. We agreed to the price, but had to call again for a detailed invoice to be sent to us (they originally sent only a credit card merchant receipt). Overall, we were happy with the work they did, but not so happy with the lack of responsiveness we experienced.

Robert Jackson from Steven's Plumbing was professional, thorough and honest. He spent more time assessing my hot water heater than any of the other plumbers I called who simply advised me to get a brand new hot water heater. One company (Footes) made three separate trips, switched out the elements and still didn't fix the problem. Robert Jackson explained what he was doing as he was doing it and saved me $1,000 and a lot of needless worry. You are in good hands with this company.

I had previously had a plumber (from a bigname company supposedly in the business for over 100 years) tell me that the filter is not the issue and I would probably need a repiping that would cost more than $5,000. John, the plumber from Stevens Plumbing, was a no-nonsense guy who solved my problem for nothing more than the $75 visit fee. I also like that I was able to call at 12 noon and they gave me a window of 2-4pm and showed up inside that window. God bless these guys! Saved me a lot of headaches and hassles and now I can take a normal shower again. I agree with those who highly recommend this company.
Description of Work: I had low water pressure in my house. The plumber came over to check it out. He quickly saw that this was due to the whole-house filter in my house. He flipped off a valve in order to re-route the water away from the filter, which was reducing my water pressure drastically. In a minute the problem was solved.

It went well. They didn't just install the sump pump, but cleared out additional drains and built a system to funnel into the pump well. They could have just installed the pump, but they focused on fixing the problem of water pooling in the stairwell.
