This firm did not come within the scheduled window, which forced us to be home on a second day. They also did not communicate well internally. When I complained about this, they said they would charge for less time. I had printed an Angie's list coupon to use for this visit. They initially refused to accept the Angie's list coupon saying that they were already charging for less time (which they were doing based on their own poor customer service). I had to personally get on the phone and push the manager to accept the Angie's list coupon, which they eventually did. Part of me wonders if I had been a man whether or not I would have received the same pushback about using a coupon. The work performed at the was great, but not a great customer service experience with the business people at this firm.

They were able to come literally the day after I called, which is something of a marvel. Due to some misunderstandings on everyone's parts, they had to make several visits to me in one day. Response was immediate, and the charge was for one visit only, which I appreciated. Further assistance on the day of refrigerator delivery was offered if I wanted it, and I felt very supported. I would happily call on their help again. It's great knowing they are so close to my neighborhood.

Once pipes were installed the water pressure was back to normal.

It has taken me far too long to write this review. During the storm the end of October 2012, part of our basement flooded - we had 14" of water. The sump pump was overwhelmed. They came out and quickly provided a work around solution to quickly empty the basement. We were so impressed with their professionalism and personal attention, that we had them come back a few days later to install a toilet and stop the leaking in two others. This is our go-to plumber for all future plumbing work.

i had flushing problem with the toilet and then a handle came off the faucet in the bathroom that is missing a pin... then the kitchen faucet was running slow... so he did all that in about 345 or so minutes... (not sure if i like the price but it is the service that pleases me so i guess it was worth my time)

Great service all round. The service agent, Julio, was efficient and friendly. He found the source of the leak quickly, removed the walling, replaced the pipe and cleaned up in just a few hours. He even took a quick look at (and fixed!) a running toilet that had been bothering us for months. Absolutely no complaints! Julio is a top-notch plumber and our first experience with Stevens Co was excellent.

Very early Sunday morning,, we discovered that a pipe had sprung a major leak under the cantilevered half-bath in our townhouse and was leaking through the drywall under the room. After taking a few first-aid steps ourselves (e.g., drilling holes in the drywall to allow more water to come through), we called 3 plumbers who advertised Sunday emergency services. Stevens Co. was the first to call us back to let us know that their employee would be available by 10:30 am. Wayne actually arrived 30 minutes early and got right to work. He ripped out the waterlogged drywall and insulation and pointed out the problem. He gave us a straightforward, honest, and descriptive analysis of the causes of the leak, related issues, and possible next steps. We had him cut both the cold and hot water pipes and cap them. He didn't have the right caps handy, so had to sweat (solder) them together himself, which didn't take long at all. The entire visit lasted just one hour. At the end, Wayne cleaned up the mess. The whole time, Wayne was courteous, friendly, and helpful. He even insisted on wearing protective covers on his boots in the house after we told him he didn't have to bother. Overall, the experience was much, much better than we expected; we had a quick solution to our minor disaster and at a surprisingly good price for an emergency call on a Sunday ($95 base fee + $195/hour labor + parts). We would definitely recommend Stevens Co. again and hope that their other employees are as good as Wayne.

The technician arrived right on time. He cut and capped the gas line. He informed me that he was unable to remove the copper line I wanted because he needed a special part. We talked through the best course of action and then let me know exactly what parts I would need to order, for him to correctly do the job. I have the parts on order and I will be calling them again to perform the work. I am now replacing both shower valves and getting new matching fixtures.

The job was done quickly and professionally. I had no problem contacting the same person I first spoke to and they were flexible about letting me order my own parts for installation (as that was cheaper than the parts they could get at the time).

Service was great. Joe, the on-call technician, called me to keep me informed on his arrival time since he was out on another job before mine. Joe was courteous and respectful, and took care to avoid making a mess while disconnecting and reconnecting the pipes. I would definitely recommend, and would use them again.

first things first: i chose Stevens because i've used them before and because they CHARGE BY THE HOUR (or 1/2 hour), as opposed to charging for a trip-charge/estimate, which is what most plumbers in DC seem to do. the Stevens fee model - while not cheap is straightforward and relatively predictable. the other model (charge-by-job) lends itself to inflated estimates, bait-and-charge and/or other costs/unknowns. in other words, they know that once they're at your place you're unlikely to go through the trouble of scheduling another estimate, even if you don't have to pay an estimate/trip charge. it's a scam, especially if the estimate isn't free. Stevens charges "the old-fashioned way" and i think it will bode well for them as a viable alternative . (btw, my technician did error in noting the start-time but i think it was an honest mistake. this is why i always ask a technician to confirm both start and end times.) Stevens arrived at the the job site at end of their two-hour window but the mechanic got straight to work. he was a bit, ummm "texturous" but funny and technically skilled. the problem was simple and so was his remedy: instead of trying to plug/patch the leak he elected to replace the portion of the pipe that was causing the leak. he performed the task without incident. the other item was to "snake" two drains. he let out a lot of cable down both drains but the result was less than i'd hoped for. he explained that the problem probably stems from the building's main lines which, given the age of the building is entirely possible, but i guess i won't know for sure until this is addressed separately. we'll see... their prices are a little steep but if the work isn't overly complicated it can end-up being more reasonable than otherwise. If i could give them a "B+" i would.

Overall service was excellent but the price tag was far too steep! $365 to install a gas range...nearly cost me the same price as the range. Having said that they were excellent, very honest and much more professional than all the other plumbers i have tried so I will definitely call them again for any plumbing problems.

Someone initially came out on a Tuesday and said it was fixed. However, I came home to find it out again. They sent Dave, their water heater expert who figured out the problem which was it needed a new part. The next day the part came in and they sent someone out to replace the part. He was frankly not helpful at all, and really could have cared less that it still was not fixed when he left- which he didn't even check. I had to chase him down after seeing it wasn't working again and he told me to hope that it would stay lit over night. However, after we demanded Dave be sent back to fix it, it worked and they only billed us for Dave's time. The office staff was very friendly, but even with just paying for Dave's time, the pricing left us with a few questions that we would have followed up with if we had more time to spend on the matter. I would have been very satisfied if it weren't for the one individual who was out right rude.

Overall, a job well done. The price was higher than I would have liked, but seems quite fair given the amount of labor involved and the cost of copper pipe.

They were very nice over the phone, and my renters were happy that the faucets aren't leaking anymore.

The plumber arrived promptly. He was courteous and polite. He removed the leaking water filter which was awkwardly placed under the sink (if it was easy, I would have done it myself) and capped the hole in the counter. He constantly talked telling me what was happening which I appreciated. Things might have moved more quickly if I had let him alone to get about his job but I prefer to know what a plumber is finding underneath there and what might be done about any problems. He also replaced the washers in the shower (both cold and hot although only the hot was leaking). These are old fixtures and also have fairly complex extenders inside the fixture. These extenders defy understanding and make it impossible for me to do this otherwise simple work of washer replacement myself. It is very easy to put them back in backwards after replacing the washer and this did indeed happen requiring a correction. The plumber also looked at other potential problems in our old house and made various suggestions, which we will consider. This work took three hours and could have been done in two easily enough. There was a fair amount of running out to the truck to find something or other (and perhaps take a cigarette break). But the work itself was done well and I am satisfied. I would give it overall an A minus if there were such a category and I definitely would use them again.

I was not satisfied with their work. There were a couple of things they said they couldn't do and they would have to come back for. They came back but didn't do those things. They said I needed a new garbage disposal because it was too noisy. So they installed a new one that makes just as much noise and is much smaller.

It sounded like a simple issue, but on the first trip they made it turned out that the faucet was corroded, so I had to get new parts. The faucet manufacturer sent the wrong parts to repair it-- twice. So, what should have been one trip ended up being 3. Stevens was very helpful thoughout and negotiated a price that was fair. Their workmen were on time and tried to to do a good job. I will use them again.

the master shut-off valve was leaking evrytime we turn it off . He was prompt, courteous and very efficient.

Another part of the drain in the back of the house from the gutter was clogging due to continual storms and rain. I called Stevens given their past good service and given my disaster experience with Rotorooter (see this review which I would like to change from D to F now). They gave me a 2 hour window for service. I called back to say that earlier was better. On the day of service they called me immediately at both numbers to say they were on their way. Joe, the drain expert, showed up at 10:15 when my appointment was from 10-12 -- very much appreciated! He inspected the issue and used a snake to take out all the leaves/mud in the pipe. He inspected the sump pump and the area that Rotorooter had snaked. He suggested some creative solutions to get better drainage. Great service, quick and reasonable price (nearly 1/2 the cost of Rotorooter and he did much more explaining of the situation, could speak English, and inspected more of the problematic areas). I highly recommend Stevens and will use them again. Joe really knows drains!

Great service, Mike came when called. He also gave me a small window of arrival which wasn't available through competitors. He helped out fixing a water pressure in the bathroom and was very honest. I am calling them again for a drain issue now!

I had to call a couple of times to get an appointment scheduled for an estimate; I had a hard time getting a call back from the estimator. I finally got an appointment for May 23. The estimator arrived promptly and was polite and professional. I was told that I would receive an estimate the next week. Two weeks have now gone by and I have placed two calls asking for the estimate. No response. The woman who answered asked me who my estimator was, as if I should know that information and not her.

Stevens went out of their way to fit me in the very next day. Customer service on the phone was excellent -- I don't know that I've ever had better and more helpful customer service. Wayne came out on time the next day, and even covered his shoes to prevent my floors from getting dirty. He was extremely professional, competent, and efficient. I felt that I was getting an honest opinion and honest service. I would definitely use them again and recommend them.

I have a complicated modern toilette with an odd device that regulates the flow. The toilette had been running constantly so I shut off the flow of water. Stevens came out to install a new regulator inside the tank. The Stevens employee, while a little scruffy looking, was very polite and efficient and the toilette runs like a toilette once again. The charges were entirely for labor as I had already purchased the device at Home Depot.
