The technician was very nice, very knowledgeable, and very quick in diagnosing the issue. He gave me candid advice on the best course of action and I'm grateful for his visit. Will definitely keep Service Master's number handy for any future appliance issues. Thanks!

My main complaint with this company has to do with how they charge for labor. They charge a flat rate per job, regardless of how long it takes the technician to do the work, or how much work is involved. In some cases, when the repair takes hours, I imagine that this works out in the homeowner's favor, but when the problem turns out to be a minor one, it's a ripoff. In my own case, I called near the end of the day (around 4:00) and got voice mail, so I left a message. I never did get a call back. The next morning I called again around 10:00. I was glad that they were able to set up an appointment for that day. The service person arrived just when I was told he would, and I had received a call as promised to let me know he was about 30 minutes away. The technician was very courteous and professional. After looking at the dryer for maybe about 10 minutes, he informed me that a broken belt needed to be replaced. The cost would be $235 for parts and labor. I was surprised at the price. He said, "That's what the company charges," an odd way of phrasing it, I thought. I asked him what was the rate for labor; he said $200 per job (not per hour). I asked him how long it would take him to fix it; he said about 20 minutes. Now, this is where I have a problem. I can certainly see paying for the technician's time and skill, including the mileage necessary to get to the job, but all in all he spent less than 30 minutes in my house to diagnose and repair the dryer. So, that effectively translates to $400 an hour for labor in this particular case. When I voiced my concerns, he repeated that "that's what the company charges." I kind of had the feeling that he didn't especially like it either. I thanked him for his time but said that I was going to call someone else. He said that he could talk to his manager and see if he could reduce the price somewhat. That's when I remembered that I had a coupon from Angie's List for $57 off. He said he could make it $60 off, in addition to not charging for the service call (also part of the coupon deal; the service call would have been $48.95). That brought it down to $175. I was okay with that price, but I feel that this is not a legitimate way to do business. Once the tech is in your house and has identified the problem, of course the tendency will be to just agree to the cost; in many cases, the homeowner has taken time off work to be there, and I suspect that Service Master takes advantage of folks' desire to just get the problem fixed and over with. I would not use this company again.
Description of Work: The drum in my Whirlpool clothes dryer had stopped turning. The tech replaced a belt, which took about 20 minutes.

After researching & calling a number of companies off angieslist, I decided to try Service Master as they seemed the most responsive and most reasonably priced.. The technician Sohi was sent the next day. He was professional and courteous. He quickly and accurately identified the problem and fixed it right away. . I would use this company again.

This review covers two incidents. On Saturday, June 28th, our washing machine agitator stopped agitating. I called Service Master at 12:15 PM and a technician named Somi arrived at 1:50. He immediately started to work and diagnosed the problem within a few minutes. The repair involved virtually taking the washer apart and installing a major connecting part. He was finished at 2: 25 and the washer works perfectly. On Sunday, the next day, one of the heat pumps in our condo apartment stopped operating. I called Service Master at 1:30 PM and a technician named Harry arrived at 4:15. He immediately diagnosed the problem, a worn out part that resulted in a blown master fuse, and finished the repair at 5:30. The heat pump is now working perfectly. After years of poor response from other appliance repair companies, I was very pleased to get prompt service on a weekend. The techs were well groomed and polite, and it was a pleasure to deal with them. They were well prepared and had the necessary parts in their vans. They both accepted an Angie's List coupon for $57, which saved me $114.

He was very prefessional and did not wate anytime getting the work done. To my surprise he had a new computer with him. I have not had ant more problems.

The hose on my washing machine broke and flooded my laundry closet. After reading reviews, I decided to try Service Master. The technician, Sohi, was dispatched the next day. Sohi was professional, courteous and capable. He quickly and accurately assessed the situation. While he was there, I also had him assess my dishwasher, which had been shutting off in the middle of the wash cycle. He figured out the problem and warned me it was an expensive replacement part. He placed the order for replacement parts for both appliances and completed the repairs, as soon as the parts came in (within 4 days). He did a great job and my appliances all work now. I would use this company again and I would request Sohi.

Overall, I was very happy with Service Master
Description of Work: Ali came out to the house the same day I called to look at a whirlpool washing machine and a subzero ice maker. He was very nice and informed me that the washing machine should be covered under the manufacturers warranty. He needed to order a part for the ice maker and finished the work today, April 16th. There is a thirty day warranty on the work completed. He even replaced a light bulb that I never knew was there. I would recommend them to friends.

I called Service Master to fix my dishwasher and they were a disaster. Here are the issues I had: 1) The person came twice before initially "fixing" my issue. Both times that he came he was over 1.5 hours late. 2) The service was not friendly. 3) I tried to use the discount/coupon on the site, and they refused to take it. 4) The "fix" lasted for a few months and then it broke again 5) I asked them to come look at it, and they promised to replace the part. However, the technician refused to do so and was quite rude. I had waited three hours at home waiting for him to get here. I called the management, and they were rude to me and backed the technician and backed away from the promise they had made me. 6) They insisted that the dishwasher had the EXACT same problem because of two completely different problems (seems very unlikely) and would not come to replace my dishwasher. I will, needless to say, never use Service Master again. They are terrible.

I called Service Master on a Thursday morning to see if I could get them to take a look at my electric dryer, which was taking an overly long time to completely dry a load of clothes. I was told that they could come out that afternoon. I had expected a wait of at least a week or more, so I was very pleasantly surprised at their availability. The technician arrived within the time frame I was told he would, diagnosed the problem, and gave me a quote, applying the Angie's List discount. I couldn't believe how quickly and efficiently I had a functioning dryer again. I am very happy with this company. I will absolutely keep them on my A list and would recommend them without hesitation. UPDATED 8/13/13: Having called this company a second time for a different problem (broken belt on dryer), I am less than totally satisfied with the outcome; see my review of 8/13/13. I thought the price quoted of $235 for 20 minutes of work was excessive.

Our oven wouldn't warm up and we needed to be ready for Thanksgiving. I called on a Saturday morning and the service technician arrived within an hour or so of my call. He checked out the oven and said the ignitor needed to be replaced. We went ahead and got it fixed. Not sure how their prices compare to other companies, but the service was great- quick and friendly.

I wasn't really impressed and wouldn't use them again. First, the repairman spent less than 5 minutes in my home, 4 minutes of which was processing the $65 fee. Second, no one ever followed-up with me on Monday regarding costs or to help me think through my options of buying new versus repairing. I would have been less annoyed at paying $65 for the "assessment" if someone had bothered to call me back and even pleased at paying it had he been able to problem solve the issue with me on Saturday. However, since neither of those things occurred I felt like I was cheated out of $65 dollars. I mean, honestly, if you aren't going to do anything more than look at the panel and poke it with your finger you probably should wave the fee or have a fee structured that allows you to just cover cost of travel like $30. You should be ashamed at charging the full amount and adding no value to my life. I would simply not recommend or use this company again.
Description of Work: GE proflie Microwave panel was not working and called on a Saturday morning to get a repair. I was able to get an appointment that afternoon and they arrived on-time within a short window to evaluate the situation. The repairman looked at the panel, poked it a few times, and said I needed a new panel. He said he would follow-up Monday with cost of new panel because they didn't have that information on hand, but he wasn't sure if it was going to be cost-competitive with buying a new unit.

My 9 year old GE stackable washing machine was making a grinding noise during the spin cycle. I called Service Master based on their rating in Angie's list and they responded within hours right before the 4th of July holiday. I told them this could wait until later in the week and they came out a few days later. They called promptly when they thought they might be late and worked with me to reschedule for a later time during the day. They diagnosed the problem and while we chose not to do the full repair/replacement for the transmission ($500.00 on a $900.00 unit) they tightened everything up and with any luck we can get another few years out of the machines - albeit with a little noise.

Paul came out to my house to repair the stovetop, which was clicking. He suggested that I needed a new stovetop. I asked them to just pull the plug so the clicking would stop until I decided what to do regarding reparing the stovetop. Several days later, I plugged the unit back in and everything worked fine. Perhaps it was only the moisture that had gotten into the burners.

My fridge was dying (certainly sounded like it), so I sent an email request via their web site. They had someone come during the time frame that I said I'd be available (next day, afternoon). My fridge did actually die after we confirmed the appt. time. The repair person was able to quickly diagnosis the problem and had it back up and working in under an hour. Very professional, will certainly use again for any of my appliances if the need should arise (hopefully it won't).

Well. See above. The repairman was punctual, professional and honest. He told me the fridge which was only 8 years old wasn't worth repairing: it would be cheaper replacing (it was a small fridge that cost around $500)
Description of Work: A refridgerator in a nice rental property I have wasn't cooling. I called Service Master and sent an email to Service Master with my tenant on copy and the company came and found that the problem was due to a lack of freon and recommended replacing the fridge instead of spendin an exhoribant amount of money to repair DO: As ask about service fee. I was charged $50 but didn't know in advance about this. The amount was fair.DON'T: Don't buy Maytag refridgerators without careful consideration. My fridge was only 8 years old and it has conked out on me. I'll try GE next time.

It took from December 2 until yesterday. They had to get multiple parts and I didn't think the guy knew what he was doing. It was really bad being without a washing machine for almost a month. They ended up changing out all the electronics and it was the last one but they ended up only charging us for the piece that actually fixed it. They put $1,000 worth of new parts in it. I would not recommend them. He was very nice. The day he was supposed to come over, his car was broken and he didn't come. He really tried hard but I don't think he knew what he was doing. I don't know about the cost because I've never had to have a washing machine fixed before. They were pretty good on responsiveness except for the time with his car. He always came when he said and he would call before. I would try to find somebody else in the future.

It was every bad experience I've had with any appliance repair all in one call
Description of Work: My clothes dryer was sounding like it was filled with sneakers. Called Service Master after seeing 23 good reviews on Angie's List. Talked to Manni, a technician came out. I had someone at hone waiting. Technician said it was the "seal" and he didn't have one. He'd be back the next day. I had someone wait. He called at some point and said he couldn't get the part. I called Manni and said I would need to be there myself and I would be there on Sunday. Manni said "Lucky" would be there Sunday and gave me his number. I called Lucky on Sunday to make sure I was on the list. I never heard back from the message I left and no one ever called me again. They did say the repair would cost about $235. This was my first time using Angie's List. I know they say no one can buy a good review but now I know a company can stack the deck by having family members send in lots of good reviews. I thought something might be odd when they had 23 reviews and the other top repair places only had 5 or 6. I won't be using Angie's List again and want my money back for joining. This can't just be a one time foul up of an otherwise great customer service company since no one ever got back to me to see if everything was ok.
