We called Service Master to repair our broken dishwasher- it is a fairly new GE model. They came out the next day (Tuesday) after I called and said it needed a new motor and the part would be there in 2-3 days. On Friday we heard no response so I called them to check in- they said the part would be in on Saturday or Monday morning and they could come out to fix it. We didn't hear from them until Tuesday and said they would be out Wednesday from 9-11am to fix it- more than a week after they initially came. At 11am on Wednesday we hadn't heard from them so my husband called and the technician said he had to take a family member to the hospital so he wouldn't be able to get there until the afternoon. I completely understand emergencies and life happens and do not blame the technician, but it was very inconsiderate for the main office not to call us when we had taken off of work to meet the technician or to send another technician after they heard the original one had a family emergency. It took another two phone calls to Service Master to confirm that someone could out the next day to fix it. I don't understand why Service Master couldn't handle it in a more professional and considerate way. We will not be using them again.

Our Sub Zero Refrigerator had water pooling in the refrigerator section. They diagnosed it as a blocked drain. Service Master was on time, very professional and quickly fixed the problem. I purchased an Angie's List "Deal" for a Large Appliance Repair" and feel as though it was a great bargain.

Bottom Line: Refrigerator did not get fixed and I have a coupon for a major appliance repair that is essentially worthless. I thought since it was Angie's List Service Master would honor the coupon but I was wrong.
Description of Work: Absolutely nothing. The problem was that the refrigerator wasn't working. If you plugged in in it would appear to work for a few minutes and then become a heater. I had vacuumed and cleaned the coils so there was a definite problem that was repeatable. It needed to be repaired as I had guests coming for Thanksgiving. The repairman came investigated and said there was no problem. I explained the problem to him and he said it would cost additional over the coupon that I had purchased to fix it because parts were needed. I asked him to fix it as I knew the parts would be extra. I believe that because it was not a "quick" fix he decided he wasn't interested in fixing the problem.

Despite the overall B grade, I think it is important to say here that I would not hesitate to use this provider again for large appliance repair. Here's why. Suspecting I had a frozen or clogged drain tube but not knowing exactly how to access it, I found several appliance repair firms offering what appeared to be flat rate labor deals for large appliance repair. In pre-purchase communications Service Master was the best at promising to honor the flat rate labor deal, so I selected them. Although I was told I didn't need to do anything to prepare, I cleaned out the freezer and most of the refrigerator before the tech arrived; and it was a good thing I did, because things would have gotten messy and frazzled if I had had to do this after the tech arrived. This is the first reason I am rating their service as B rather than A. On the day of the appointment the technician called to say he could arrive early, which was nice. He quickly agreed with my diagnosis of the problem, and quickly proceeded to access the drain tube and thaw it with lots of warm water. He definitely knew what he was doing, and water was soon draining through the drain tube again; but despite my asking, he didn't give me what I would consider positive assurance that my problem had been caused by a freeze resulting from poor design rather than a partial (and presumably still existent) clog. As a result, I worry that a partial clog remains to cause this problem again, and this is the second reason I am rating the service B rather than A. The final reason I am rating the service B rather than A is price. I know this isn't fair, because I am happy that they fixed my refrigerator for the paid-in-advance price; and I have to say that, if my repair had been more difficult and if they had fixed that more difficult problem for the paid-in-advance price, I would have been thrilled! But the fact is my problem wasn't that difficult to fix, so I don't feel I got my money's worth. As I said I know this isn't fair; and this is why I began this review by saying that I would not hesitate to use this provider again.

The repairman showed up on time and fixes my refrigerator for a good price. The repair man also looked at my dishwasher but could not fix it because the required part was unavailable so he did not charge me for the dishwasher.

We bought a $135 service call coupon. When I contacted them through Angie's list, I requested response via regular email. They didn't do it and I waited several weeks. Finally it occurred to me that they might have responded through AL, which he had. I AGAIN requested EMPHATICALLY that AL is not convenient correspondence. He again responded via AL. I again contacted him through AL and he finally came out, fixed one burner and gave a list of parts we needed. I emailed back that we would like to have more work done and contact me about ordering parts and scheduling an additional service call. He emailed that if we wanted to have more work done, to let him know. At least he used my gmail account. I responded. No reply. I responded again. No reply. Finally after about two weeks I called another vendor (not wanting to risk using Angie's list again) who came out... fixed one item that the original vendor said would need a new part, and ordered it, said he'd call me when it came in, and we'd schedule a time to install it. It was also less expensive ($110) than my Angie's List "coupon". I believe I will cancel my membership because of this experience.

First, I attempted to make an appointment through Angie's List message board but Service Master was slow to respond, taking a day between messages and asking questions but not scheduling an appointment, so I called and was able to get an appointment. When I made the appointment, I gave the model # of the refrigerator, explained the problem in detail and specifically asked if they would have the parts when they came. The owner assured me that the parts would be in the truck. I was given a window of 9-12 for the appointment. At 11:15, the technician left me a message to say he was on his way. I was on a phone call and returned his call 10 minutes later. At that time, he said because he did not hear from me, he went to another customer, and would not be able to get there before 12:30. This was frustrating, as I had commitments that afternoon. When the technician came (who I later found out was the owner), he was able to determine within minutes, and before he even looked at the problem, that he did not have the parts he needed. When I reminded him that I was assured he would have the necessary parts, he said that they have "most" parts but not these. He diagnosed the problem and searched through his phone for available parts. First he quoted me a part at a certain price but then claimed he needed to acquire it elsewhere for an additional $20. The initial visit was on a Friday afternoon, so his next available appointment was for Monday. He told me he could not schedule an appointment before 11:00 am, but could do a late evening appointment. Although this was not convenient, I agreed. On Monday am, the technician called to tell me that he could not get one of the parts that day (even though the part was available at a warehouse was within 1 hour of my home and my appointment was not for another 10 hours). I called the owner to see if there was any way he could get someone to retrieve the part and remind him that the technician promised the parts would be available for my appointment. At that point, the owner revealed that he was the technician who was at my home on Friday and who made the call regarding the unavailability of parts. I told him that if he wanted to keep my business, he would obtain the part and keep our appointment. He opted to lose the business.

I got an email about what times would work for scheduling the appliance repair. I replied back on best days for scheduling and didn’t hear back for about a week or so (I did not check Angie's List, but they had responded back through Angie’s List). I did reply back when they asked for model # and my address. I did not hear anything back for a day or so, but when they did reply it stated that they didn't service my area. I advised them that they are listed that they service the area, and listed this service area on Angie's List. He was very polite, but prompted that I contact Angie's List about getting a refund. I think the business should clarify more on their service area to prevent discrepancies like this.

I purchased a promotion from Angies List and the company honored it. They were very responsive and scheduled work right away. The price of the part was not included, but it was moderate (around $50) and they returned to install it as part of the deal. The problem with my fridge was not entirely resolved but it did improve the situation a lot. I was satisfied with the company and the deal I purchased through Angie's List. I would recommend the company - but I am extremely disappointed with modern fridges which simply don't last very long without breaking.

The technician arrived a half hour later than the estimated window. He was very professional and tried to be helpful. He did not have repair or error code information on our model of dishwasher. He attempted to find the information sheet on the machine, which is normally tucked somewhere inside the door of a dishwasher, but was unable to do so. He did give us a list of possible causes for our problem, but since he did not witness the leak himself, he had trouble knowing exactly what part was failing. After about 45 minutes he gave up, told us the company would refund the repair purchase, and left. I honestly think he did his best, and because the company will refund, I would do business with them again. Later that night, my husband found the information sheet. It was not where the technician had thought it was; however, because the dishwasher had leaked so much water, the sheet was soaked and had swelled up. Jammed into the frame of the machine, it could not be removed until it had dried out. Based on the advice the technician gave him, my husband ordered parts himself and we seem to have the problem solved.

I called the company on Saturday to schedule an appointment for the following Monday. I was given a 4 hour window and the service technician called to give me a 30 minute heads up. The technician was friendly and was able to fix the issue quickly. We did not need any parts replaced, so the only charge was the labor. The technician even took a quick look at my leaking dishwasher to see if he could locate the problem before a Sears technician came the following day. He was unable to locate the leak, but the Sears technician wasn't 100% sure his fix would be the correct one either. :) All in all, I would use the company again.

For a few days, we noticed our fridge was making loud noises as if it was constantly turning on. One morning, the stuff in the freezer was less than frozen. They were out the day after we contacted them. First outing, the tech replaced the starter for the compressor. He was very nice and answered all of my questions. This fix lasted for one month. I contacted them again, and the same tech came out the next day. Initially, he offered to replace or add some parts gratis, but after additional inspection, told me that the compressor was totally shot. It was time to buy a new fridge. He answered all of my questions regarding his views of the quality of brands and fridge styles, which was quite helpful in making our purchase selection. I would certainly contact this company again regarding appliance repair.

When he arrived, my husband explained the situation again and the provider realized he had misdiagnosed the issue, even though I had clearly outlined the issue in my note and over the phone. He said it was a simple repair, so my husband went out and purchased the part and did the repair himself. Essentially, we definitely overpaid to diagnose the issue and ended up doing the repair ourselves. In hindsight, I should have not purchased the deal from Angie's list and just had them come out and diagnose the issue since that would have saved us a lot of money.
Description of Work: The provider was very responsive and called soon after I ordered the Angie's list deal for a large appliance repair. I explained the situation to the provider over the phone and also included a detailed note in the message with the purchase from Angie's list. Based on what I explained, he diagnosed the issue over the phone and ordered the part for me and scheduled an appointment for the following week.

I had them out to repair the downdraught ventilation on my Thermador cook top. It turns the necessary part for the repair is unavailable so they were not able to do the repair. The technician advised me to contact Angie's List in order to get a refund of the Big Deal purchase, which I have done.

They came out and properly diagnosed the problem as a bad thermostat unit. They had to order the part, with was an extra $79, which is a high mark-up on the part, but overall the total price with the Angie's List deal was still pretty good so I still gave them an A for price. They installed the part after it came in and it works fine. Overall they were top-notch, but I gave them a B in service quality because it wasn't perfect. They left chunks of lint on the floor around the area and a bracket from the curtain that closes in front of the dryer.
Description of Work: I bought their deal for $135 for a large appliance repair. They repaired our electric clothes dryer that was not getting very hot and leaving clothes damp.
