I just did an AC and that is why I signed up with Angie's List. I used Polar Bear.

Duct work was run through our closets to the main floor so there was no need for any ugly sofits. Joe and his team did a beautiful job with the installation so there was no mess nor any repairs needed when they left. The installation crew were punctual each day and the job was completed in 2 1/2 days.

They did a great job. The technician was very competent and was able to address the problem effectively and efficiently.

We originally contacted Polar Bear Air and Heating on 2/20 for repairs to our heat pump system. They were scheduled to come out on 2/21 to perform the repair, but were unable to make it out due to the snow storm. The reason for the 'B' rating on responsiveness is that we did not hear from anyone at Polar Bear Air and Heating on 2/21to explain they were not going to make it out for service. On Sunday 2/22, we received a call directly from the owner to explain the miscommunication and apologize for not informing us that his technician would not be able to make it out on Saturday. After speaking with Joe for 30 minutes on the phone we felt confident that he would provide great service and be able to assist with the issue. Through our phone conversation he was able to tell most likely was causing us a problem and after having the system reviewed he was correct. Due to scheduling on our part we were unable to have Joe out until 2/25, he arrived on time and spent an hour going over the system and showing us what could do to improve out current heating situation. We look forward to working with Polar Bear Air & Heating in the future as it was obvious they know how to address an issue with the system when one may arise.

I was very impressed by Polar Bear Heating & Air Conditioning. They were professional, courteous, sensitive to time and financial constraints, and really wonderful to work with. Joe took a lot of time discussing options with me and ultimately even came to my house to see the system and discuss next steps in person. Angel's knowledge of HVAC systems and repair was outstanding. I really appreciated all of the time and effort they put into fixing our problem. I would HIGHLY recommend them and will absolutely use them again if we have any additional HVAC issues.

Angel arrived on time, but due to a mix-up, no one was in a position in my house to meet him. He called me and I directed him around back to the patio where my brother was and where the A/C unit is. I wasn't home, so I can't give a lot of details. He diagnosed my A/C problems as a blown capacitor. He had a replacement with him in the truck and was able to fix that right away. He replaced the furnace/AC filter, saying it was very dirty and left a note on the invoice to make sure I changed it every 3 months. The filter had been in place since July 3rd. I change the filter every quarter, so the $18 charge for the new filter and labor in changing it wasn't expected since the filter was OK. Overall, I was very pleased with the company being able to schedule a service call the same day I contacted them, I was pleased with Angel's arriving on time, I was pleased with him having the part needed with him, and I'm pleased with the experience. If I have another AC problem before I retire and sell the house in March 2015, I will not hesitate to call them. I will recommend them to my friends in the area.

This was a great experience from start to finish. Joe spent a lot of time with me up front, explaining the options and steps for replacing our old A/C unit. He brought along some independent studies for me to look over on the effectiveness/ratings of the different brands. He answered all my questions and was extremely responsive. In fact, he was able to schedule the install the very next day -- just before a heat wave. The technicians who did the work were efficient and courteous. It all went "as planned" and we are very happy with the result. We would definitely recommend Polar Bear and Joe to others.

Awfully. If a fuse is blowing there has to be a reason for it. Did the Polar Bear technician - one 'Angel' - look for the reason the fuse was blowing? No. And today, one Katy spoke to the owner of Polar Bear, after which she informed my wife and me that they would not be coming out again. Michael & Son, here we come.

I was shocked at the great service. It's interesting how much excellent service affects you positively in DC - it really is a big deal for people. So, It's 100 degrees outside, and of course, \my outside central air fan inexplicably stopped last night. After a sweltering night of misery, I used Angie's list first thing this morning to call around the entire city looking for someone - anyone - who was both reputable and just might be able to come to my house and fix my central air today. I knew full well that almost all HVAC providers in the area would be booked up - - perhaps a day or days more - - so unhappily, I wasn't expecting immediate service, (or sticker shock if there was immediate service). Polar Bear had someone show up to my house in about 4 hours from my telephone call, within a 2-hour band of 'wait-time' (unlike the 4 or 5 hour band of wait-time that's typical) and they fixed the problem completely, at a decent price (while fairly warning me that if a part was needed, there could be a wait). But it was same day arrival, same day repair, and same day completion. It wasn't a life threatening emergency, per se, but the sweltering heat was not something I wanted to endure much longer. Polar just earned themselves a future customer.

Angel did a professional job in locating leaking refrigerant and replacing the coils. However, there was a mix up in the billing so I notified the office. Joe called back immediately said he would take care of it. That is all I can ask. I had previously bought a different heat pump from Joe for a rental unit and I have been satisfied with it. Joe will be my go to guy on future HVAC issues.

Having dealt with 3 companies before Polar, they are best in class. Joe is responsive, communicates well, and gave his best price first. His installation team was on time, courteous and clean. Can't ask for much more than that.

Joe Kelly and his guys did a great job, were very responsive and worked with us along the way when we had questions or concerns. This is a short (and tardy) review but I can't emphasize enough how much we appreciated their work.

There is no way to convey how excellent Joe Kelly and his crew have been. I narrowed my search down to 2 a/c providers based on A+ rankings in Angies List. Joe Kelly's almost uniformly A+ ratings were almost too good to be true, but he exceeded expectations. Joe came to inspect the job and explain possible options and technical terms. He was always punctual, or if he had to delay he'd call to explain why and reschedule. Joe is totally in charge of the operation. Although most times he sent a crew (also highly professional) to do the work, yet I felt he was in charge and involved every step of the way. We had to replace our A/c compressor and he helped me select the right product. They came and did the main job in one day, arranging to do it while we were out of town. We then asked him to do more work, which was necessary to make sure the a/c would be properly tied into new construction we were doing at the time. We actually offloaded tasks from our construction contractor and onto Joe and his crew because they were so reliable. They have earned out loyalty. He was willing to stretch out some of this work over a very lengthy time frame, due to our needs, and came back numerous time promptly when called upon. The agreed price seemed very fair and I told him I didn't even want the Angies list member discount deducted. We cannot recommend Polar Bear highly enough. Is there is a grade above A, we'd give it.

The scheduler was pleasant and professional. The service technician was very knowledgeable. I was very glad that Polar Bear was able to accommodate me promptly. I would definitely use them again if needed.

Replaced heat pump and fixed cooling system. Did a great job at a fair price. Cropp-Metcalfe was going to replace the system that didn't need replacing at 4 times the cost. Will continue to use Polar Bear.

Things have been working and sounding perfect since then!

I was very pleased with Polar Bear. They examined my existing furnace, recommended a new one, and installed it. I had 3 different companies examine the situation and provide estimates. Polar Bear didn't try to up-sell me, in fact they recommended a lower priced model as more appropriate to the installation location (an attic). Then they also gave me what proved to be the best price of all the companies from which I received an estimate -- even when I asked the others for an estimate for an equivalent model. As far as service, they confirmed the appointment with me in advance, and were very good in communicating about when they'd arrive. They showed up on time, and performed their work professionally. They even identified some existing duct problems and corrected them as part of the installation. Then they pointed out to me the warranty information, and reminded me to register the equipment online to get the best warranty coverage. I would definitely work with them again.

He looked over the top floor furnace and said that it was cycling because of the thermostat and that after looking over it, he said that nothing was wrong with it, he then performed a tune up of our lower level furnace. I called around 8 am and was told told a tech could come by at 10:30 that morning. He showed up on time, and was done pretty quickly. They didn't charge for looking at the upper level look over after he told me what was going on, and they charged the $159.00 amount that they charge for furnace tune ups for the service that was done downstairs. Was very happy and plan on using them for future work. Their number is now programed into my phone for future work.

Our heat pump system stopped working after I attempted a self install of a new thermostat. I called on Monday morning of Veteran's Day, and they were here by lunch time. It cost about $90 to have them diagnose the problem (blown fuse on the controller board that I didn't know had a fuse) and subsequently trouble shoot the thermostat programming. At face value, $90 for a fuse replacement may seem like a bit much, but them coming out day of and showing me (i.e, teaching me) how to fix the system myself next time is money very well spent. In short: They are friendly, timely, and willing to educate.

Joe Kelly came out to provide the estimate. he was prompt and explained exactly what would be needed to be done. He provided an estimate and after comparing Polar Bear to a couple other vendors we chose to use them. They were very accomodating to my schedule and quickly got us worked into their installation plan. The installation team were right on time, did the job very quickly and efficiently, and made sure that everything was cleaned up and taken care of when they left. Couldn't be happier with the entire evolution. Would definitely use Polar Bear again and would recommend them to anyone looking for a furnace replacement or installation.

The scheduling staff was courteous and were able to schedule me for same day service when I stated that I had no heat at all. The technician was punctual, courteous, and explained everything he did. He found the problem right away. He explained exactly what was going on and told me how to care for the boiler in the future. If he were a dishonest person, he could have recommended costly repairs that weren't actually necessary. Instead he was a straight shooter, he didn't overcharge, and he made a repeat customer. I will use Polar again.

When the temperature in DC rises the humidity is unbearable. Our tenant called to say that the a/c was blowing warm air. I immediately got in touch with the property management who provided me with the name and contact information for the company Polar Bear Air Conditioning and Heating Inc. They were very responsive to my email and we were able to set up an appt right away which I very much appreciated knowing how busy they must be during the DC heat and humidity. During this time the elevator in the building was being replaced hence the stairs were the only means for getting upstairs. Due to the weight of the compressor it was necessary to lift it up by crane to get it on the roof. Before proceeding with the crane (Polar Bear was not aware of the elevator outage initially), they ensured that I was aware of additional costs and that I agreed before they went forward. In addition, because the complete system was being replaced, additional work was required inside the unit. All work was completed in a timely manner and I might add that everyone I dealt with was very pleasant and very accommodating. I would use this company again because working with them made the whole transaction easy and stress free even though I live out of state. I would also recommend this company to others.

Performed per schedule and at the quoted price. And, follow up servicing was timely, proficient, and professionally performed.

They have been terrific. I have been using them for about 6 years now. They are quick to respond to my calls and they have great advice to give me. They can get someone out to your home that day you called or the next day. I have always been pleased with their work. They have referred us to specialists and other companies when it requires more expertise, instead of just trying to figure out the problem themselves. If you have a relationship with them, they do give you a discount and priority over others.

This was the first time I had used their service. The owner, Joe, came out to give an estimate first and seemed very knowledgeable about AC units and what was best for my home. Their prices were reasonable. Scheduling went well, after we agreed on the price, he had his workers come out within a week and finished the project a week and half after that.
