Moody Landscape Architecture is a design office located in Washington DC focused on landscape architecture, garden design, and ecological planning for private and public clients.
I contacted Moody Landscape Architecture via Angie's List and then via their website and never heard back. I then called and spoke to someone, explaining that I am looking for a design for my yard that I want to implement over several years, and was told that I would get a call back. After several weeks, I had not heard back so called and left another message. I received an email that they are only interested in projects over $50K. As far as I can tell, this is not stated on their website - in fact, there are pictures of projects for less than $50K. I could have been a solid, longterm customer, but am quite insulted my their lack of professionalism (not returning emails and calls) and for making it clear that they only cater to the very wealthy.
Description of Work: Moody was not interested in my business.

Response from Moody Landscape Architecture
Ms. [Member name], Thank you once again for contacting us. Unfortunately, early spring is an incredibly busy time for our business. We work very hard to serve our existing clients and do our best to respond to all potential new clients. During this time we typically focus our new project consultations on larger jobs. As our business grows we look forward to serving as many clients as possible with the highest levels of quality and professionalism. I wish you the best for your project. Kind Regards, Ryan

He was very responsive to my request for a meeting and extremely professional and knowledgable. I later selected another firm that specialized in the design I was was interested in. My only reservation with Moody Design was that they do not provide a conceptual design prior to signing a design contract; so I was hesitant to commit to an unknown.
Description of Work: I contactd Ryan for a consultation for landscape design/build services for my backyard.

I can't recommend Ryan and his team highly enough. We had just bought our condo and were getting a bit jaded from working with vendors whom we felt were constantly trying to upsell us. So it was very refreshing to come across Ryan who was incredibly trustworthy, reliable, and courteous, and who worked hard to stay within our budget. And most importantly, he has a great eye for design as well as functionality; he transformed our 400 sf urban terrace into a sleek, modern space complete with sophisticated uplighting for the planters (he installed the lighting himself which saved us from having to hire an electrician), and hidden storage for bikes and extra seating. He also chose the hardiest plants possible as my husband and I have the opposite of a green thumb. A year later, I'm happy to report that the trees are thriving despite our not watering them as much as we should, and Ryan continues to be very responsive and helpful should any minor issues arise. Overall, two thumbs up for Moody Landscape Architecture!
Description of Work: Provided landscape design and installation for an urban terrace in Logan Circle.

Moody's was already familiar with my neighborhood and the challenges of outdoor spaces in the city. They came across as knowledgeable and capable, and while I don't know if I will get the project done, the plans they provided were in line with what I was seeking.
Description of Work: I used Moody's for landscape architecture to re-design my backyard. While my desires were more paving than greenery, they were responsive to my wishes and my feedback as initial designs started coming out.

We had a terrific experience with Ryan. We called him because our garden was out of control, and he designed an unbelievably beautiful, functional space that is also low-maintenance enough to fit our busy lifestyle. He is extremely professional and talented, and took the time to explain his vision, produced detailed sketches and provided pictures of the types of plants he planned to install, got estimates from contractors and hired one to take care of the installation (Till Gardens, who likewise did an amazing job), handpicked the plants himself, and oversaw the installation. At first we balked a bit at the price, but now that the job is complete, it is worth every penny. We're planning to have him come back in the spring and do some more design work for some additional areas. We couldn't be happier with the end result -- the design is beautiful, timeless, and user friendly. Highly, highly recommend.
Description of Work: We moved into a rowhouse, and the side and front gardens quickly became overgrown and out of control (we have an end unit, so we have gardens around the front and side of the house. Ryan Moody and his team developed an in-depth plan and detailed sketches, designed a complete overhaul of the gardens, and designed and oversaw the installation of a small terrace. We worked with Ryan from the initial planning phase through installation, and his work was first rate.
We were simply delighted with this project. Ryan of Moody Landscape Architecture conceived and created a multifunctional space in our tiny backyard that allows us to entertain or simply relax. His design reclaimed a space that was formerly overgrown and overrun with mosquitoes. Our primary goals were to have a seating area, a built-in grill and to address drainage issues and security/lighting issues. Ryan achieved all this and more. WWe interviewed three different firms for this project and chose Ryan based on his creativity, his quick understanding of our style, his attention to detail and his easygoing manner. In fact, while we love his work product (we couldn't be happier with our back yard), what really set Ryan apart was the ease of interaction that we had with him. He was responsive, provided excellent suggestions and feedback to our questions, monitored the project closely once construction got underway, and worked really well with our contractor. He's an easygoing, extremely nice guy, who cares a lot about his work and his clients. Our project has been completed for almost a year and we're thrilled with it. We recommended Ryan to one of our friends who then hired him. She is almost finished with her back yard and had been equally thrilled.
Description of Work: Ryan Moody helped bring to life a vision we hadn't even articulated to ourselves for our tiny Capitol Hill backyard. With only a few consultations Ryan understood our style and created a plan for our backyard that not only "felt like us," but also utilized all available space and provided us with an outdoor area that feels calm, spacious and serene right in the center of the city. We're simply delighted with his work. Ryan drafted an overall concept for the space, created incredibly detailed construction drawings, that included specific light fixtures, bluestone, wood for the fence and a sketch of a pergola, for the project. He helped us choose a general contractor and then served as project manager until construction was finished. Ryan and his team also recommended and purchased planters and custom outdoor cushions and installed plants in the space.
