I was interviewing three design companies for a new fairly large porch and patio remodel. We had a budget of approx 80,000.00and since have signed with another company to do the work for us. We called loft construction and the person answering the phone was very nice, she followed up with me in a timely manner. She recommended that I wait for a particular person to do the estimate on my job. I was ok with this since it was only two weeks. I called to set up the actual time and he arrived on time. I explained to him as well as showed him our plans to have a new large stoned porch below with a deck above which already has access from two of our back bedrooms. I thought to myself this is kind of strange he's not taking any measurements or anything. I thought maybe this was just our first initial meeting and he would follow up with a more detailed plan. We talked about everything from Hawaii he lived in Maui etc. He told me he would give a rough estimate. He seemed polite enough I walked him to the front door and he said to me as he walked down the front walkway. "Keep dreaming". It struck me as very strange I wasn't sure what he was talking about. He never followed up and never called. I never called them back because the more I thought about I felt maybe he thought we didn't have the money for the project. I am still not sure. We've signed a contract with another company for a total tear down and build up of a new lower stoned porch as well as upper decking etc. my best advice is to always get at least four estimates for any job. Prices and quality varies greatly. I would not ever recommend a company or someone who judges a book by there cover.

Lofft performed a lot of work on our newly-purchased home in the Brightwood area of DC. They painted, installed a washer and drier and other appliances, did renovations to our lower level, and painted. Alex and his staff were friendly, efficient, and did an excellent job on everything we wanted done. As with any contractor, it is important to be clear on the scope of work. We highly recommend this local business.

I contracted with Lofft to renovate my kitchen. The work included, among other things, electrical, countertops, backsplash, new window and door molding, new doors, removing an interior brick wall to open the space and reinforcing with a steel beam, radiant heat, insulation in outer walls (for which I contracted separately) leveling the floor, new floor tile, lighting, plumbing, and installing new cabinets and appliances. I met with four contractors before choosing Lofft. I chose Lofft primarily because Luis, the project manager, was very responsive during the proposal stage. I had multiple questions and changes to the scope of work in the proposal, and Luis promptly responded to my questions and concerns. Lofft's price was competitive, not the lowest or highest. I signed the contract in June 2012 and work began in August 2012. I worked with my own architect/interior designer who designed the space, including construction and electrical layout/drawings, and assisted me with selecting materials and colors. I don't think I received a price decrease from Lofft (because they did not have to prepare drawings for permits from scratch), but I also didn't inquire about it. Work began with the demolition of the kitchen, which was completed in a couple days, including removing the brick wall. The work progressed as scheduled, and Luis managed the project well. The workers showed up as scheduled and everyone was very pleasant. The guys on the job were easy to get along with and exhibited good work ethics. The job was delayed, but that was because two cabinets (purchased independent of Lofft) were made incorrectly. I purchased most materials myself (this cost is not reflected in the total above) because Lofft charges a 20 percent mark-up on materials. They will pass their discount on to you, and in some cases it's more economical to purchase through them even with the mark-up. I purchased floor tiles, backsplash tiles and granite countertop using Lofft and paid less than I otherwise would have. Although the quality of the work was great, there was not as much attention to detail as I would have liked. I think this might have been due to a rush to finish the job on schedule. However, Lofft quickly addressed any concerns I had to my satisfaction. In addition, a small percentage of the work (placement of electrical outlets) deviated from my designer's drawings, and I didn't catch it until it was too late to fix it. I was disappointed. Even with the delay in the job because of the cabinets, Lofft finished the kitchen fairly quickly. My kitchen is beautiful, and I'm still admiring it a year later. I would recommend Lofft and would use them again.

They were very professional in our initial meeting and provided a reasonable quote, which included allowances for materials should we choose to purchase ourselves. During construction, some positives: Smaller issues with cabinetry were quickly taken care of, we love ease of use of kitchen, subcontractors were pleasant and easy to work with, quality of the work met expectations, work was clean and professional. There were a few instances that make us hesitant to recommend to friends, not based on the quality of work of the company and its employees, but due to other factors: The program manager was at times unprofessional and on rare occasions spoke to us in a disrespectful manner. We had a mis-measurement in the kitchen which was not owned up to by the program manager. Towards the end of the project, I felt like we were placed on the "back burner" instead of the team quickly resolving all outstanding issues to simply finish the project. The end of the project was a little bit rushed with polyurethane applied to the flooring using a rag on the employee's hands and knees at night with no light. The resulting work was redone to our satisfaction however. Overall we are very happy with the kitchen if only for a slight improvement in our program manager's positive outlook, understanding, patience, and consideration for our concerns, I would wholeheartedly give all "A's." Again, they deserve an A based on the quality of the work, my only reservations being that it felt like I had to manage the work and solicit information on what was occurring on occasion. I recommend them to our neighbors and others, they do an excellent job.

After reviewing all of the outstanding remarks on this company in Angie's List, and browsing their website, I was really disappointed that the estimate experience was so poor. I really felt like they would be the best and most competitive company of all the ones that I asked to scope the work, but I was so disappointed with the quality of the estimate experience, I've decided to eliminate them completely from consideration. They were responsive and professional in scheduling the estimate, which was free, and the person responding was professional and punctual, but I didn't think he was qualified to do the estimate. I had to over-explain what I envisioned, he seemed stumped by fairly easy renovation issues, and offered no creative insight or advice. He spent a lot of time taking measurements and asking questions, so I figured he would take the information back to their team and I'd get a decent estimate. Unfortunately, the estimate was so generic and all of the items looked like nothing more than a wild guess. I lost all confidence in this company and chose to stop at that point. In contrast, I had 3 other estimators come by, all also from Angie's List, and they were amazing and I felt much more comfortable with their estimators. I haven't received the written estimates yet from them to compare the prices, but just discussing the renovations went so much better, that I feel as if they will do quality work.

Overall, the work went well. Initially, the company was very responsive. The reason I rated responsiveness as "fair" was that midway through the job, our communications with the company office person broke down and caused considerable delay in ordering and receiving the smaller fixtures. This caused the job to stretch out unnecessarily. On the plus side, the two workman who actually perfomed the work were punctual and generally did high quality work. At all times, they kept the job site protected with plastic sheeting which minimized dust and dirt in the rest of the apartment. On the finishing details (checklists), we found we needed to push hard to get the best results. If they had been better at this final stage, I would have rated them as excellent

All was great until after the provider came for a site visit. After that, I never heard back with estimate. When I contacted by email, they never replied. Up to now, I still do not have an estimate from them, and never received the information they had promised to submit.

The process of giving the estimate was very good. The staff demeanor was very good. They will do it if they are able to remodel the condo, not necessarily just the kitchen.

We have a house with an addition. The two sides of this house are now connected by the original galley kitchen and it's very compartmentalized. My wife and I have thought about ideas to renovate but could never come up with anything we both could agree on. Then we decided to use a professional designer to come up with something. Luis and Lofft Construction came in and gave us a design that blew our minds. They gave us a very reasonable construction quote (general at this point since we weren't ready to commit) and if we move forward with the work Lofft will be our top choice.

Overall, the work that Lofft did was good, and we will likely hire them again for any work we do in the future. We had a few small communication and scheduling issues and a few budget surprises (mostly related to materials cost not included in the estimate, including paint; this surprise was most likely due to the fact that we were new homeowners with little experience doing this sort of thing), but we were pleased with the resulting work. Once the work was started, Luis and his team worked quickly to complete the projects outlined above, and, even with a few changes to the scope of the projects, they were able to complete the work in roughly the time that we had agreed upon. We purchased our home in April and were scheduled to move in at the end of May. As soon as we purchased the home, we started to get estimates from local contractors for the work that we wanted to do. Oscar at Lofft was able to come to our home and give us an estimate shortly after we contacted Lofft, and the estimate seemed to be in line with what other contractors had quoted us, though a little on the higher end. Due to budgetary constraints, though, we had to change the scope of the project a bit. Unfortunately, Oscar was out of town for two weeks, but he kindly put us in touch with Luis so that we could get things started. Luis came out, gave us a new estimate based on our changes in scope, and scheduled the work to begin around May 15. Luis and his team worked quickly, were very responsive, and very professional. We had a few issues, but most were quickly resolved. First, when the electricians originally installed 6 pot lights in our attic, they were distributed in an asymmetrical way, with varying distances between them down the length of the attic; we asked Luis to have them re-install them in a more symmetrical way, and he had them come back the next day and re-install them. They still aren't perfectly positioned, but they look good. Second, when the carpet installers installed new carpet in the basement, they peeled some paint from our newly painted walls. Again, Luis and his team quickly remedied the situation. Finally, the team painted the front of our front door white although we clearly specified that we only wanted the back of the front door painted. This was part of a change in the scope of the project, so that may have caused some confusion, but it was still unfortunate, as we will now be repainting it ourselves. Other scope changes went well, and were estimated and completed quickly. In general, the walls look great, the hardwood floors look great, and the attic looks fantastic. Lofft was able to turn our work around very quickly, and we were able to move into our home in the first week of Jun. Overall, our experience with Lofft was good. I will likely use them again for future work.

They started in June and finished just before Thanksgiving. I was not pushing them to rush it since it gave me a chance to spread out the payments. They did almost all of the construction before opening the addition to the existing house so it was not a hardship living with the construction. They showed up when they said they would. The crew worked very hard when they were here and were very polite. We had a few minor things that needed to be touched up months after the project was finished and they came right away to fix them. I wish we could have done this years ago. I had 3 estimates for the work and Lofft was in the middle of the 3. This was my first experience with a major project like this and I was very pleased.

I have asked them for an itemized statement and I have not received it. I’ve already paid them their money and this has been a long process trying to get in touch with them. It has been frustrating and has simply been wasting my time.

I'll start by saying that I'm satisfied with the overall quality of the work done by the team at Lofft. The original vision was achieved and my home is very nicely renovated (at least on the two floors that I contracted to be completed by this company). My favorite feature is the open living space on the entry level which required the removal of a load-bearing wall and doubling the ceiling joists. The Lofft office is located in Petworth so they are familiar with the style of home I have, the DC permitting process and i really liked that they were part of my new neighborhood. Final results aside, the project was not without a few challenges. Communication--I didn't always feel "heard" when I raised concerns or made requests, some of my emails and texts went unanswered or were responded to in a condescending tone. I think a difference in communication style between Alex and I was partly to blame. However, it would have been a big help if there were notes captured by Lofft of our conversations that we could have reviewed together. If so, we would have had a way to stay aligned throughout the project. Punctuality--The project didn't finish on time. That happens. But there was no communication about the delay which I found very odd. The deadline came and went with no acknowledgement. I have to admit I was reluctant to even bring it up because I didn't want to elicit a defensive reaction as the project was winding down. Budget--I thought I had planned well with the Lofft team and I agreed to a healthy budget. Still, my project ran over by 10k. I would recommend Lofft to others but would urge new customers to establish a schedule of structured project updates to include budget and timing. I would personally consider using them again but only if I could devote the time to managing the project more tightly.

Loftt is an excellent general contractor. They repaired a deck and gazebo that was damaged by a fallen tree. They did a fantastic job and their price was very fair and reasonable for the work performed.

Overall the service was good except a 6 week project turned into a 3 month project. A complaint from the workers was that the space/project was too small. There were additional expenses that had not been anticipated/estimated for. Dealing with the county inspector was supposed to be part of the contractor's responsibility but on 2 occasions I had to be home to deal with them. We have gotten lots of praise about the work and since it was the first major project in several years I am not sure we knew we were going to have some of the issues that we had to deal with.

Our experience with Lofft Construction was fantastic. We recently purchased an old house on Capitol Hill with a studio English basement rental unit. When we purchased the place the rental unit was a moldy, disgusting mess. When it came time to renovate the basement, we had just finished a nightmarish kitchen installation in the main house with another company in which that project?s management failed us many times during the course of that four-month project. We went with Lofft based on the reviews on Angie?s List and could not be happier with our choice. The service that Lofft provided us stood in stark contrast to what we experienced immediately prior. Our architect/designer/project manager Oscar Arguelles was on top of everything throughout the project. While the apartment was purchased as a studio, it ended up a luxurious one-bedroom apartment that somehow became larger than it started thanks to Oscar?s vision and creativity. Because we were so burnt out after our previous renovation, we let Oscar make the design selections?all of which turned out beautiful and which I am confident will allow us to maximize the unit?s rental potential. Last but not insignificantly, the price was very reasonable for what we received. I truly wish we had gone with Lofft for our previous renovation but we have already hired them for our next. With a house as old as ours, I am sure we will continue to call Lofft in the future.

Lofft Construction did an excellent job.

I am disappointed. It looks like they do very good work. I called for an estimate and spoke with a very nice gentleman. He took all my info regarding the job. I got a call back only to find out they would not come to my area even though it is listed that they will come to Fairfax County where I live. They need to update their covered areas both on Angies list and their website because both say they cover Fairfax. If they don't come to Fairfax they probably won't come to Loudon County either.

Once I decided we were ready to invest in replacement windows I call three companies for competitive bids. Lofft construction won easily because of their responsiveness, ability to listen to my needs, and price. Once I decided on all the windows I wanted replaced, Lofft construction measured the windows; he came back and double-checked the measurements and put in my order. The windows arrived earlier than expected and the installation took about a week (because we had some weather issues). I am completely happy with my beautiful new windows and I would use them again for another remodeling project.

Their estimate was very detailed and thorough. They responded very quickly and were professional.

Everything went well. This company used Sherwin Williams paint. It is the best paint that I've seen anybody use yet.

Very professional and customer oriented.

Lofft was hired to completely gut and then renovate our basement. We had already worked with an architect to draw up plans. The job involved a complete demolition, followed by framing, rewiring the electrical (including replacing the cloth-insulated wiring for the basement and first floor), rerouting all of the plumbing for an open ceiling concept, installing a new bathroom and laundry area, replacing windows, hanging new drywall and trim, installing laminate flooring, and lots of painting. The overall experience was very good. The Lofft team showed excellent craftsmanship and a real desire to do good work; in particular, Enrique, Erick, and Rolando did some fantastic work on our remodeled basement. Lofft was also very responsive: every time I called Luis, our project manager, over the 10-week project, I never once got his voicemail. Alex was incredibly helpful in working with us to help envision the final project. There is some room for improvement. 1. At some points, it was very difficult to have good, effective communication with the Lofft team. On a project of this size, we needed more conversations to help us make decisions. For example, we were issued a change order with no explanation, but after discussion, we were able to decide that the change order was acceptable. If that conversation had happened first, then this encounter could have been avoided. 2. There is no notification when you are going to surpass your allowance budget. We went a couple thousand dollars over our limit, and although we got pretty much everything we needed and were willing to pay for it, it still would have been nice to have been notified earlier that this was going to happen. At the end of the day, we're extremely pleased with the renovation and happy that we chose Lofft. The quality of the work is very high, and Lofft really honestly exhibited a desire to give us the results that we wanted. It look much longer than expected and there were definitely some bumps in the road that could have been avoided, but for a project of this scope, such things are to be expected.

Alex from Loft Construction made an effort to come, review the problem and respond to a request for a job that needed attention right away. I had trouble finding a contractor locally to come and assist me with this since it was not a big job. They were fair, responsive and did me a favor by coming by to see the problem, purchase the replacement shower door and install it within two days. They were a pleasure to deal with and we will definitely use them again!!!

This is the sixth time I have used Alex Sanguinetti and Lofft Constructions for renovations to my 100+ year row house. Unlike prior projects, this one I did not even bother to seek other estimates, I just contacted Alex. I knew that Alex would provide me with a fair estimate and he would also stand behind his work. True to form, the project was completed and I am delighted with the end results. Oscar Arguelles was the project manager for this project and he had some great suggestions on making the place look great. As a result of the work that Alex has performed on my house, others in my neighborhood are seeking him out for similar projects. It goes without saying that reconstruction is disrupting to one's life, but Alex and his crew make this as easy as possible. At this point, my house is nearly complete with all the intended renovation projects, but I would not hesitate to call Alex if I should decide to make more changes.
