Lofft gave an estimate, with senior discount, which we accepted. We scheduled the work with no problem, and Lofft did the work as scheduled with no problems.
Description of Work: A stall shower had a leak from cracked tiles and leaky caulking. Lofft replaced the cracked tiles and did needed re-caulking.

Alex Sangui showed up promptly for the initial bid meeting and gave a quote on-the-spot. Work began 6 days later. After removing the tile, the damage the sub-floor was more extensive than anticipated so the bid was revised upward. Alex also needed to bring in his plumber on a couple of occasions to repair some leaks. His crew was great, friendly, efficient, hard working, clean and very respectful. The finished product is great and we're very happy with the experience. Overall it was a very fair price for what ended up being a fairly extensive floor renovation.
Description of Work: Demolition of existing ceramic tile kitchen floor down to the structural beams (several layers of built-up flooring was removed). Plumbing repairs. Leveling of floor, installation of new sub-floor and installation of linoleum tile.

I selected them from Angie's List because they had a D.C. address and were highly rated, however the phone number was not working and in the process of verifying the information with Angie's List I found they had relocated to Virginia. I told them I needed a master, licensed electrician. The next day when they showed up without a licensed electrician, he led me to believe that fuse box work might not require a licensed electrician. I consented to the work not knowing that it required not only a licensed electrician, but one licensed in D.C. Now if anything goes wrong, as a D.C. resident and homeowner, I don't have legal or financial recourse in case of property damage from their work since I did not use a D.C.-licensed electrician. I also can't prove anything they did because they never provided me with a detailed invoice as I asked. Mr. Sanguinetti told me 3 times he'd send an invoice, but never did. Now the power has gone out again to the furnace, so the fix has only lasted 4 months.
Description of Work: Electrical work for fuse box and line joining fuse box and furnace. They capped or joined loose wires in an old interim fuse box. They changed some fuses and commented that there was some pitting in the casing of the fuse. They tested the outlets and wires throughout the house because there were some outlets damaged from a different contractor who had used equipment the electrical system could not handle. They restored the outlets that were not working and fixed the issue with the furnace.

THE LADY CALLED US FOR AN UPGRADE IN HER FUSE BOX(HEAVY UP)HER ELECTRICAL SYSTEM WAS REALLY OLD AND IN VERY BAD SHAPE,SHE WAS CONCERN THAT HER HEATING SYSTEM WASN'T WORKING, NEXT DAY WE GAVE HER A PRICE FOR THE HEAVY UP, BUT SHE TOLD OUR ELECTRICIAN SHE JUST NEEDED THE FURNACE WORKING BY THAT TIME IT WAS GETTING COLD, OUR ELECTRICIAN CHANGED THE FUSES AND RE-WIRED THE FURNACE, INCLUDING A JUNCTION BOX. IF THE PROBLEM PERSISTS IT'S PROBABLY FROM DETERIORATION OF THE ELECTRICAL WIRING (ALUMINUM). WE NEVER RECEIVED A CALL FROM HER REGARDING THIS MATTER WE WILL CONTACT HER AND SEND OUR MASTER ELECTRICIAN TO REVISE THE JOB.

I called them because I had a leak that I thought was coming from the shower of a condo I own. I had previously had a plumber look at it, and he had told me it was coming from the shower and told me I needed to tear down the tile wall in my shower and replace drywall behind it. Luckily, Alex from Lofft was able to quickly identify the leak coming from a crack in the pipe behind the wall. He quickly was able to open the wall in three places to find the leak. We had to get permission to turn off the water in the building the next day. Then his team fixed the pipe, then re-drywalled. They even matched the paint, and the job was done when I got back, which was great because I don't have a car so it's not easy for me to go buy paint. He's great to work with and was also very conscientious with my tenants.
Description of Work: They located a leak in a pipe behind a wall between the living room and closet. They opened the wall in three places, repaired pipe, re-drywalled, and painted.

The drywall and painting went very well. Alex has a good team of painters, drywallers, and tile installers working for him. All were very conscientious, and while the work took a little longer than originally estimated, it was done within a reasonable time. When we went for more expensive travertine tile for much of the basement or more expensive linoleum for the work room, Alex worked with us to get the right materials (Lowe's or Home Depot) at his discount and make appropriate adjustments onto the contract. His workers were very nice, gentle, honest, and hard-working. Finishing off the job was very well done, with great cooperation down to the tiniest detail on the ''punch list''. We had a few minor difficulties with some of the electrical work and might have handled that differently and made different decisions. But in general, Alex and his group were really easy to work with and we will hire them again if the need arises. We highly recommend Lofft Construction!
Description of Work: Our entire lower level (1650 square feet) was damaged in the June 2006 flooding. We sought quotes from three to four contractors to redo drywall, replace carpeting with stone tiles, repaint walls, and replace some lighting and add extra lighting. In addition, once we selected Lofft, we also asked them to redo two ceilings in the house that needed spackling/repainting and to install a bath-fan/heater in our upstairs bathroom. We are very pleased with the work, and while there was some minor and unavoidable tension due to scheduling or different expectations, on balance, this job went as smoothly as any remodeling that we have ever undertaken. Alex, the owner, ensured that all details were addressed and also helped us to obtain materials at reasonable costs. His professionalism made the entire process pleasant and ensured its success.

Overall it went well. Took about 2-1/2 weeks from time of estimate approval to finish. Team of 2 did the whole job, starting with TV room, working until 8 one evening (we had to ask them to go home!). Meticulous in the re-plastering, taped and sealed off the area so the dust was contained. Cleaned up well. Painting was very well done, around 4 door and 4 window frames, and bathroom fixtures (didn't repaint trim). Moved heavy furniture I couldn't move. I put down extra plastic drop cloths to protect floors from plaster and paint that ends up on shoes, etc. Very polite, hard-working. Alex visited every day to check on progress, bring drywall, consult with them and me. When they were nearly 2 hours late one morning, he tracked them down and explained to me what had happened, and apologized. The rooms look beautiful-no sign whatsoever of the previously water-damaged areas, and no sign of it coming back!
Description of Work: TV room: remove painted-over wallpaper, plaster repair, prime, paint with 2 coats; replace 2 outlets, 1 switchplate. Full bath: Plaster repair on 1 wall and ceiling, paint with 2 coats. Bedroom: Plaster repair, prime and paint 1 wall, plus paint second wall; replace 3 outlets, 1 switchplate. Kitchen: Spot plaster repair and paint; replace electrical outlet box and switchplate. Basement: Remove old plaster from exposed brick wall and re-seal; drywall over sealant and paint w/ 1 coat. Front door: Remove and put back on hinges so it would close tight. Price of total project includes materials (paint, new outlets, boxes and switchplates that I purchased. Price of labor was exactly as estimated.

I contacted Lofft Construction and requested an estimate on the bathroom project. They said that they could come out the next morning at 9am. At 8:30am, they called to inform us that they wouldn't be able to make it until 9:20. We arrived at the work site at 9:15 and waited until 9:45. I called Lofft Construction to ask about the arrival time. I let them know that we wouldn't be able to wait much longer because we had taken only a short time off of work to do what was supposed to be a quick estimate. The person answering the phone did not know who the subcontractor was or where he was. She said that she would place an urgent message to the office and get back to us. She never did and we left the work site. We did finally hear back from them and they came out on time to give us an estimate.?

We hired Alex for our kitchen renovation this past summer. We originally called him to look at our house for general repairs after moving in, and wound up hiring him to install hardwood floors. He and his team were incredibly fast, their work was good, and the price was much better than home depot, etc installation prices. We then hired him for our kitchen renovation, which took approx 5 weeks. Overall, we were very pleased with the outcome. He had a few reliability problems with one specific worker, who I think he let go as a result. Alex was always honest, responsive, and thorough with us. He moved into his new house towards the end of the project, and was occasionally late returning calls. But overall we thought he was very reliable, and I think the price for the kitchen was reasonable. Our experience was in line with the early positive reviews that led us to call him to begin in the first place.
Description of Work: They gutted and completely remodeled our kitchen--replaced the floors with ceramic tiles, installed cabinets, installed tile backsplash, hooked up appliances, tuned up the plumbing, and added lighting/electric where needed.

Lofft did exceptionally well. Alex Sanguinetti, our main contact with Lofft, was prompt, friendly, and completely professional. His painting crew was equally skilled and personable; their work was terrific. Also, our furniture was moved and protected carefully during the painting, then replaced precisely after the job was finished. Although interior painting is always an occasion for domestic dislocation and disruption, Lofft made it as painless and pleasant as possible. Straight A's and a gold star for Lofft---I'd definitely recommend them to anyone in the DC area!

Alex is a very personable man. He came and checked out the project, gave me an estimate and began the work shortly thereafter. I picked him on the basis of reports on Angie's and I am glad I did. His crew (Diego and Luis) were excellent. They did not leave any part of the job undone, came back several times to finish things, were timely for appointments and are very versatile. They are all wonderful people and are part of our family now. The shower was a spa shower in a relatively small bathroom. They installed it well. This was a major renovation project. We almost redid the entire townhouse. I think more than two dump trucks worth of things were removed and replaced in the house. Alex and his team picked up the items we selected from the hardware stores and installed them. This has been a great experience and I am grateful to Alex, Diego and Luis. Thank you guys!

Alex and Diego were great to work with. They kept us informed throughout the process, so there were no surprises. Overall, I think the quality of work was excellent, and I would recommend them to my friends. The floor is gorgeous!
Description of Work: We initially hired Lofft to replace the tiles in our shower, which three different plumbers told us were leaking through the wall board (we had water damage on the dining room ceiling below). In the course of demolishing the tile, the guys discovered that it was actually the floor that was leaking. So they laid a new subfloor and ceramic tile as well.

We called Lofft Construction for an estimate. Alex came by in a few days and gave us an estimate that surprised us. We thought that the cost would be higher. We signed the contract and planned the work for a few weeks in the future. Alex was able to begin the work sooner, but we had scheduled a two week vacation and did not want to begin the project until after we returned. The work began about a week after returning from vacation. The only problem encountered was communicating the order in which the two projects were to be done. We understood that the tile was going to be installed first, but the hardwood crew came first. The hardwood took longer, but the lead installer was an excellent craftsman and worked long hours to finish the job within 3.5 days. The ceramic tile installers were the same, very skilled and professional. The only increase to the original estimate was because we had not told them we wanted the foyer tile installed on a 45 degree angle.
Description of Work: I got hardwood flooring installation in the living room, dining room, two flights of stairs, and an upstairs hallway. The cost covered carpet removal, labor for hardwood and ceramic tile installation, and the hardwood itself. Ceramic tile cost was additional. Also, we had two layers of kitchen floor removed and ceramic tile installed in kitchen. Old wood flooring was removed in the foyer and ceramic tile installed. We purchased the ceramic tile at a store recommended by Alex. After the store gave us the price of the tile we selected, Alex gave us his contractor's discount for the tile purchase and that saved us another $400.00. He arranged for pickup of the tile from the store and returned tile that was leftover.

This was a very big project involving all the trades (carpentry, electrical, plumbing, etc) and required an engineers plan to fit a custom staircase into existing hallway to the converted attic and relocation of the washer and dryer. Alex, the project manager, worked with me from the very beginning. I had just hired the engineer when Alex came to look at the scope of the project. He immediately asked to be present when the engineer and I were to meet. From the very beginning he was excited about my project and worked hard to make sure he understood what I was trying to accomplish. During the course of the project we ran into several unexpected and unforeseeable problems. Alex was always very helpful and flexible in figuring out what to do while keeping in mind my limited budget. I was always able to reach him in a timely manner and he always got back to me quickly when I had a questions or problems. An honest and professional business.

I had read very positive reviews on the List about this contractor, and was very disappointed.
