Very, very bad! We called Lofft because of the stellar ratings they received from Angie's List. Don't' be fooled! We set up an appointment for an estimate at 4:30 on a weekday. We both had to leave work early to make it home in time for our estimate with Lofft. We waited until 5:15 and finally called. Apparently they had two appointments scheduled that day for someone of the same first name and simply assumed that it was same person. I told them that this was unacceptable and that both my girlfriend and I had taken time off work for this estimate. At this point Lofft Construction was understanding and offered to come on a Saturday or Sunday (so we wouldn't have to miss work) for the estimate. Their representative showed up over 1/2 an hour late on Sunday, but was pleasant and offered suggestions regarding the bathrooms and crown moulding. However, we never, ever received his estimate. I called a week later and the secretary promised that she'd send it out "again." We double-checked email addresses to make sure and waited and waited. We never received any estimates or phone calls from Lofft Construction. Nothing at all. We cannot figure out why Lofft Construction has received such high ratings on this site. All we wanted was an estimate to compare with other companies we had consulted regarding our repainting. Needless to say we went with another Angie's Listed company and are very pleased.
Description of Work: We wanted our living room, guest bathroom and master bathroom re-painted. We wanted crown moulding installed in the living room. We had condensation and mildew damage on the ceilings of the bathrooms that needed to be taken care of.

I really can't recommend Lofft enough. They are professional and the end product exceeded my expectations. The original quote was around 310,000 but with our change orders (i.e. painting the outside of the house, adding a deck, etc.), and the high end appliances, tile and lighting, etc. that we chose the total jumped to around 400,000. Prior to choosing Lofft, we spoke with about 15 different contractors. We chose Lofft (a) because we felt that they could handle a project of our size, (b) had great reviews on Angie's list, (c) felt that we could trust them, and (d) were impressed with another project that they did on our street. The overall experience, even in light of the normal setbacks that accompany major construction, was fairly painless in spite of the size of the project. My only piece of advice (which pretty much applies to any contractor) is that it helps if you know what you want down to the faucet because there are a ton of choices that you have to make. And also it helps to be able to be on site regularly to ensure that everything is being executed to your specifications. I think one should almost approach your project as almost a partnership with your contractor and Lofft was a great partner to have.
Description of Work: Lofft gutted and rebuilt an entire 100-year-old DC row house. Here are a few highlights from our project, the Basement Apartment: Dug out the basement floor about a foot, dug out a new front entryway, new living room, bathroom, laundry room, kitchen and bedroom, new plumbing, electrical, etc. In the Main House we demolished entire house, new expanded kitchen - installed viking appliances, granite counter tops, etc. All new plumbing and electrical. Wired whole house (including back deck, with speakers for house from central location. All new windows. Renovated and installed 5 fireplaces (some gas). Added 2 full baths and 1 half baths - for a total of 3.5 baths in the main house. Installed a customized master walk-in closet. Repaired roof and installed deck off third floor back bedroom. Installed new wood floor throughout house. Installed new drive pad in back and back stairwell (all brick). Tiling of all bathrooms, foyer and kitchen. Installed master bath with separate shower, soaking tub, and double vanity. Wired house for 4 flat panel TVs (for the kitchen, master bedroom, master bath and office) And probably a dozen other things that are escaping me but, in a nutshell, Lofft built a upper mid- to high-end house on a mid-end budget. They did an exceptional job. The project took about 5 and half months.

Overall Jephte and the crew did an outstanding job on the remodel. The demolition went smoothly and they and they made every effort to protect the rest of the house from the dust. For the most part rebuilding went smoothly. The workmanship and the finished product is outstanding. I am absolutely thrilled with the new bathroom. Only problem occurred when Jephte try to obtain required permits from Arlington County. There was some confusion over who could pull the permits and which permits were needed. I was disappointed at the amount of time it took Jephte to get this resolved. I expected them to be more up-to-date on county regulations. The problem delayed construction a few days. However the quality of the finished product exceeds the inconvenience caused by the delay.

I was extremely pleased with Lofft's work, professionalism and price. They were prompt in providing an estimate which was both reasonable and below, to well below the 3 other estimates I received from A rated companies on Angie's List. They also began the work on time and kept after it until the job was completed. At the end of each day, they cleaned up which helped considerably in keeping dust down to a minimum. Without exception, Lofft's employees where very cordial, professional and responsive in addressing questions and issues that invariably come up when remodeling a home. All aspects of their work, carpentry, tile installation, plumbing, electrical/lighting, and painting where absolutely top notch. I would certainly use Lofft again for any remodeling/construction project and would recommend the company to others without reservation.
Description of Work: Lofft remodeled 2 bathrooms one of which required a complete overhaul (e,g., replacing studs, dry wall, floor and the installation of an intricate tile design in the shower). The other involved replacing the tile floor and installing a new vanity, toilet and lighting.

It went very well. Alex is an excellent and very personable project manager who employs highly skilled people. He is very responsive, flexible and a real pleasure to work with. The quality of the work was absolutely first class. All concerned took a real pride in their work, Johnny, Alberto and Daniel did all the custom carpentry. Francisco who did the granite counter tops and deserves credit for his creative suggestions and for going to four different suppliers to find the perfectly dimensioned top for the island. It's in one single piece no seams. Edison and Ishmail did the wiring and final paint - great guys to work with also. All pricing was fair and the job completed on time. In conclusion I would not hesitate to recommend this company to any one and we definitely intend to use them again in the future.
Description of Work: Kitchen remodeling in our 1926 Foxhall Village Home. Installed granite counter tops. Built glass tile backsplash and under cabinet lighting. Built several new cupboards and shelves. We were able to retain most of the existing cabinets and just install new doors and drawer fronts. The existing cabinets were completely sanded and refurbished. The wood used was solid red oak and all doors & drawers were hand made to fit. The door handles and all hinges and drawer slider mechanisms were replaced. Preserving much of the original cabinet framing enabled us to save a few thousand dollars. The island was shortened and the hardwood floor spliced to match the existing floor that was then polished and stained. New sink, disposal and faucet. Speaker wires were concealed and a volume control was installed in the wall, in adjacent dining room. The kitchen was painted in a very attractive faux finish.

Great work all around. I highly recommend Lofft. This was my first experience working with a contractor, and it couldn't have gone smoother. I had heard horror stories from friends about out of control costs and never ending projects, but Lofft finished our project on budget and on time. Alex is the owner of the company and made us feel very comfortable with the project from the estimate. He explained he had a similar kitchen at his home and made many of the same decisions we were making in terms of materials, so we valued his advice. We chose to go with Lofft after getting three bids. Lofft was the lowest bid, but we chose them because they understood our priorities better than the other companies (for example, we wanted to use Ikea cabinets instead of custom cabinets that the contractor would mark-up, and Lofft was fine with that decision, the other companies tried to discourage us.) The crew and project manager that worked on our project provided great counsel throughout the project. Being our first renovation, we didn't have much of a clue what we were doing and they helped us weigh the options and come to the right decisions. They provided counsel about everything from countertop material and color choice to how to position the lighting. After they started work on the bathroom and took out the floor, they recommended some additional work on the floor joists and redoing the walls in addition to the floor. At no point did I feel like I was being up-selled. The project manager walked me through the costs and the benefits, as well as the risks and he let me make the decision. I was very confident they were working in my best interests. We were very happy with the outcome. They took down a wall separating our dining room from our kitchen and built an entirely new kitchen. It looks spectacular, great workmanship. And the crew was very easy to work with. They were punctual, polite and responsive. After the project was complete the project manager and the owner came by to make sure we were satisfied and address any concerns we had.
Description of Work: Complete remodeling of our kitchen and bathroom. All new cabinets, flooring, countertops, appliances, fixtures.

Not very well. I feel they wasted my time and now I have to start all over again.
Description of Work: I found Lofft Construction on Angie's List with good ratings and reports so I called for an estimate on finishing my basement. I specifically asked the woman who answered the phone if I needed drawings or an architect for a basement remodeling project and was told no. We scheduled the estimate for a few days later and I was expecting an estimate and not to need any drawings. The representative was late for the appointment. He told me that I DID need my own architect or engineer to do the drawings after all so the info given on the phone was incorrect. He took the measurements of the basement, gave me a few ideas and told me he would email the name of the engineer they use for drawings so I could have those done while I was waiting for the estimate. He also said he would send me a proposal in the next two weeks because they were so backed up. I was willing to wait if they were really busy but now it has been almost six weeks and I have heard nothing from anyone. No email with the engineers name. No estimate. Nothing. Now I have to start all over and the project could have been started and almost complete if I had found a reputable contractor who could really handle the work that they schedule estimates for.

A nightmare. Despite signing a contract in January (and providing a $2500 deposit), the company stalled at every step in the process. My phone calls and emails went unanswered. Drawings and timelines were never provided. The work was supposed to be completed in March but the project manager never even showed me what the portico would look like until March 26. I will never know if they do good work, though I know they were planning to do the work without the requisite county permit. But their customer service was as bad as I've ever seen. Perhaps because my construction job was relatively small, to them. Perhaps that's how they do business. They say they will refund my deposit and I'm hopeful they will be responsive this one time. But I am happy to run as far and as far from Lofft Construction as I can get.

Lofft was very responsive from the beginning and willing to start before we were able to clear the space enough to begin. We scheduled three weeks for the project. The Lofft employees on site were great, cleaned up after themselves at the end of each day, and explained what they were doing and why. The only hitches came due to the plumber who was not punctual and failed to appear several times. This caused us in the end to extend about three business days into the next week. Other than that, all workers were professional and knowledgeable and able to explain their actions clearly. Lofft was able to rapidly adjust with us to the evolving space in order to meet our desires for best appearance and did so rapidly and efficiently. We received a couple of additional items that make sense, but that we did not request also.
Description of Work: Lofft installed a new bathroom in the as yet unfinished section of our basement. This involved adding plumbing, rerouting the existing plumbing, installing electrical support/fans/etc., building/finishing/painting new walls and finishing the interior of the bathroom while matching the surrounding space as nearly as possible. Also, they needed to move and adjust the existing washer and dryer system. To do so, they needed to dig into the foundation to achieve the proper angle for drainage to the outlet line and did so with care to drainage and materials that left us confident of no future issues. They also managed the county permit process admirably.

We are very happy with the quality of the work delivered by Lofft Construction. Alex Sanguinetti, the project manager (and I think owner) is very professional and responsive. We had a few concerns along the way that he addressed promptly and personally. The time line took a little longer than we had hoped as a result, but our primary concern was quality of the work. The crew was also very courteous and kept the work site as clean as possible (put down drop clothes, picked up tools and materials each evening, and worked during the day while we were both at the office, and a few weekends when we needed them to) which was important because we were living in the house the entire time. The price was higher than others we looked at, but again, our focus was on quality and we feel very comfortable that we got what we paid for.
Description of Work: We hired Lofft Construction to remove and rebuild a faulty shower pan in a tiled 2nd floor shower that was leaking into the ceiling of the lower level. We also had them build a small cabinet and install a recessed medicine cabinet in the bathroom. Work on the shower included cutting out and removing the bottom 16" of the shower wall, breaking out/removing the mortar floor, and removing all materials down to the frame. They rebuilt the shower, replaced the drain, and finished with marble tile that matched the original. The cabinet filled an existing niche in the corner, approximately 1' W x 3' H x 1.5' D, and consisted of four painted plywood shelves and a wood hinged door. The prebuilt recessed medicine cabinet was installed in an old lathe & plaster wall. They had to reroute plumbing and electrical connections and patch the surrounding plaster wall to fit it in. Total price included a $500 Angie's List discount.

The price was very reasonable and they did a fine job. I got an estimate to paint the kitchen (including the ceiling), painting my Mother's bedroom, filling in cracks, fix an area on the wall near the kitchen sink where air was coming through the home attached to mine, putting in a porcelain soap dish in the bathroom, adding some tile around the sink in the third floor bathroom, knocking out a small portion of the ceiling in my bedroom and redoing, and installing accordion doors in my Mother's bedroom. They quoted $8000, which I thought was a bit high. I also asked if they could take down the awning from my house and adding a small roof. That would have been $4000. However, he was nice and pleasant and respectful when talking to me.
Description of Work: We had a pipe that was leaking in the basement. They found another pipe to put in the basement, and they also fixed a squeak in one of my sink knobs.

The contractor requested one week to provide a quote. Ten days following the quote request/walk through the contractor requested 3 additional days. After two weeks I still did not receive a quote. If it weren't for this lack of follow-up I think I would've used the contractor for some of the work based on their knowledge. The contractor arrived on time and was very knowledgeable and able to provide a detailed description of the problem and possible solutions. Pointed out problems not seen by others. Provided solutions that may be above and beyond what was necessary to get the job done (e.g., remove a wall rather than working around it).
Description of Work: The contractor came to my house to provide a quote on a number of different items including: roof work (shingles, flashing, fireplace cover, faceboard replacement), kitchen work (dishwasher, countertops, disposal); window replacements (5); remodel of bathroom.

This company worked hours and did more work than was expected. They knew what they were doing, their attitude is great and the prices are right. They will be doing more work in our home -because plain and simple LOFT CONSTRUCTION INC. does GOOD work.
Description of Work: The men plastered and sanded the hole and damage in the ceiling and on the walls. They repainted the rooms. They assembled a complete dresser (I was amazed, because the dresser had so many pieces!) The work done was awesome and thorough. Well with such an extensive project things are not always going to go smoothly. But we cannot be any happier with the results. Our house is beautiful. One of the biggest headaches was dealing with the DC permit process. Once we received the building permit construction moved quickly. Alex brought in various tradesmen to complete the project (structural engineer, HVAC guy, electrician, plummer, hardwood floor guys). Alex's main crew of 3-4 guys would arrive at the house every weekday morning and work until 5 or 6. The guys did exceptional tile work and drywall work. Communication was great. Alex was always easily accessible by phone and would often meet us at the house to discuss progress. We requested several changes along the way (to Alex's dismay) and he told us when he could and could not make them happen. More often than not there was no problem. The whole process took longer than any of us would have liked but I'm glad we had such a kind and honest GC to help us thru the process.
Description of Work: Lofft totally renovated the interior of our 1925 bungalow in Brookland. Lofft took our architect's plans and made them reality. They did extensive structural work to repair termite damage and years of water damage. They did demolition and framing according to our drawings. They put in all new plumbing throughout the house, and new electrical wiring, outlets, and lights around the house. They put in a new complete HVAC system with furnace, heat pump, and duct work, and ran gas lines. They replaced all our windows with brand new high efficiency ones; framing in new larger windows and doors in places (including a new French patio door). They remodeled two full baths and our kitchen. They put in slate floors, maple cabinets, and granite counter tops in the kitchen. And they put in stone/marble tiles and new fixtures in both bathrooms including a jacuzzi tub. They also put in new pre-finished oak hardwood floors through the main level, carpet in the bedrooms, and skylight in the kitchen.

I have used Alex before for a small electrical job for wiring around my patio area. I met with Alex just once and gave him the list of items to perform in my basement rental unit. These were mostly "handyman" items I could have done myself but did not have the time or inclination to do so. He responded with a fair price and we got started. Throughout the process, I found Alex and crew to be responsive, diligent and eager to make sure things were right. I allowed him to make decisions on selecting the vanity, faucets (bath and kitchen) and medicine cabinet and I was very pleased with his selections. He or one of crew members kept me updated on their progress and suggested other minor fixes. The work was thorough and complete and he left the work site clean each day. His total price was very close to his original estimate and stayed within budget on the faucets, vanity and medicine cabinet. He threw in minor painting and patching for free. I would definitely use Alex again.
Description of Work: Alex and crew fixed kitchen drawers, repaired drywall/painted kitchen and bathroom, installed new bathroom vanity and medicine chest, installed shower rod, installed new kitchen faucet. The price included all material including faucets, vanity, shower rod and medicine cabinet.

Not well. This company had rave reviews on Angie's List but I did not receive the kind of service I was expecting. All of the Lofft staff were very nice and concerned about my dissatisfaction, but the work overall was sub-par, expensive, took far too long to complete, was mishandled in terms of the scheduling and is still not done correctly (in spite of their coming back to try and fix the DR ceiling as recently as December). I will have to have someone else finalize/fix this work in the future. I told them I thought I should get some of my money back, and they agreed but never followed up on that either. This was an extremely disappointing experience, given their reputation on Angie's List.
Description of Work: I had three plaster and one tile projects, one of which had to be completed in a specific timeframe to accommodate a larger home improvement effort. Projects were: 1) skylight hole to be filled in and the ceiling drywalled (the rest of the ceiling is plaster); tile to be installed where a new furnace was going to be placed and cracks in the walls of the furnace closet patched; a damaged ceiling in my dining room to be repaired (damaged from water heater leak above). The work started at the end of July 2007 and took about three weeks to complete the first time. Work still be done in December, after many attempts to get them to understand the problems left behind. Also, they kept saying that they'd come and clean up from their work (outside) which they never did (tried once but the equipment didn't work, never came back in spite of promising to do so). They also never returned a tarp that I lent them, again in spite of promising to do so.

I contacted several companies. I picked Lofft because they accommodated me. I was ill and their office manager kept in touch with me during my illness, and then arranged for Mr. Sanguinetti to come by after my working hours. He spent an hour carefully looking at the proposed work. A contract was prepared, which I signed and made payment of 1/2 amount due. Then my check bounced due to confusion while my investment manager was making changes. The Lofft staff, particularly Gabriella, were very understanding, and when the funds were transfered called right away to schedule the work. Mr. Sanguinetti met me at my house after work. He charmed my assertive 70 lb. male dog (who was wild when captured by animal shelter staff, and does not easily make friends). I didn't even have to lock up the dog. The work was done well, completed expeditiously, and the crew even matched the paint in the bath and basement and painted 3 rooms. They would not accept a tip or extra money for that.
Description of Work: Lofft replaced the lower 3 feet of drywall in a finished basement, which was necessary due to flooding. The contract called for replace and prepare drywall for painting. Also, replaced approximately 25 floor tile that were cracked and lay down new tile in 1/3 of basement that did not have tile. Also were to replace portion of drywall ceiling of half bath. In addition, find a way to level the floor in a large master bedroom where wood flooring project was put on hold due to portion of subfloor being approx. 1/2 " to 1" higher than rest of floor. WE APOLOGIZE FOR THE INCONVENIENCE. FROM LATE NOVEMBER THROUGH MID JANUARY WE WERE HAVING ISSUES WITH OUR COMMUNICATIONS SERVICE PROVIDER. WE RELY HEAVILY ON EMAIL AND VOIP COMMUNICATION TO RECEIVE MESSAGES FROM OUR ANSWERING SERVICE. UNFORTUNATELY FOR US, STARTLOGIC (OUR ISP) DECIDED TO UNDERGO AN ENTIRE SYSTEMS MIGRATION. WE WERE NEVER ALERTED TO THE ISSUES WITH OUR EMAIL AND VOIP AND SPENT NEARLY AN ENTIRE MONTH INVESTIGATING THE STRANGE BEHAVIOR OF OUR SYSTEMS. WE WERE FINALLY ABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF OUR PROBLEMS AND MADE THE CHOICE TO MOVE TO ANOTHER SERVICE PROVIDER. WE HOPE THAT THIS CHANGE WILL BRING OUR COMMUNICATIONS BACK TO FULL CAPACITY.

This company performed beyond my expectations. They always arrived early and stayed late. They were responsible about locking doors. They helped me make up my mind on paint colors and projects beyond their contract. They "surprised" me with significant additional work that I had discussed but which was not in the contract and for which I was not billed. They were immensely polite and always showed up whenever I needed them.
Description of Work: Paint the interior of a three bedroom house. This house was in terrible condition. I wish I had before and after pictures. The house had been occupied by a smoker and everything was covered in yellow stuff.

From start to finish, Marcos and his team were professional and very responsive. Everything looks outstanding and we have received so many compliments. The job took one week to complete and they left everything clean. We would definitely use them again and highly recommend them to anyone.
Description of Work: Lofft Construction put up two new walls and two new wood railings on our stairs. Wall job included framing, finishing, molding, and painting.

I was very pleased with the work. I ad obtained other quotes for the original scope of work, and Lofft was the best price. My principle contact was Marcus, and he was highly responsive when I had any questions or concerns, and when I wanted to talk about adding additional projects. When I described what I wanted to accomplish, he came up with suggestions on how to get there. Because I was pleased with their original quote and felt the company was trustworthy. I felt comfortable not seeking other quotes for the add on projects.
Description of Work: I hired Lofft originally for a few specific projects, but I was so pleased with their work and responsiveness that I kept adding tasks. Lofft brought a number of different crafts together, which saved me a tremendous amount of time, to perform the following: Removed an outdoor brick barbecue and repaired the patio underneath; cleaned the brick facade of my 1894 row house and repaired some select damaged areas; plastered and painted the entrance to my downstairs apartment; built a wrought-iron fence around the front of my row house; painted exterior windows; replaced a rotting shed door and repaired some issues on my back door; performed a variety of small electrical tasks; and replaced a missing spindle to match the original banister.

I had the typical experience of many of the other members who have contacted this company. I set up an appointment with them, but on the day of the appointment they called to cancel. They said that they would have their AC/Heating technician contact me to reschedule an appointment, but no one ever called.
Description of Work: No work was performed. They cancelled their appointment.

WE APOLOGIZE FOR THE INCONVENIENCE AND WE UNDERSTAND THAT DEALING WITH HOME MAINTENANCE CAN BE A HASSLE. WE TRY TO HONOR ALL OF OUR APPOINTMENTS, BUT IN THIS BUSINESS SOME DAYS ARE HARD TO PREDICT. GOOD OR BAD, THE FEEDBACK IS ALWAYS APPRECIATED. SINCERELY, THE LOFFT TEAM

I called this company because they had such a high rating on Angie's List. I was really looking forward to working with them. However, the day of the appointment, I arrived early and waited. At the time the contractor was to arrive, I got a call from Gabriella. She said the contractor was tied up and would not make the appointment. I was disappointed. That was on Thursday, November 8, 2007. She said the contractor would not be available until the following Monday, November 12, 2007. I agreed to reschedule the appointment for that day. However, the morning of the appointment she called to say the contractor was out of the country and would not return for 15 days and that I could call back and reschedule. I couldn't believe it. How rude. What a waste of time.
Description of Work: I needed to have some electrical work done in a house I'm renovating - six new electrical outlets, new light fixtures, re-wiring of about four outlets, etc.
