The whole job went very well. It was completed faster than I expected and was a very pleasant experience. I cannot way enough about the professionalism and quick response and quality of work. I would definitely use this company again. In fact, come March I hope to be able to start on the upstairs bathrooms!
Description of Work: Nelson came out and gave us estimates to build a wall in the basement and rebuild 2 walls in a 1st floor bathroom that had to be replaced because of a leak from the master bathroom upstairs. He also gave us an estimate for other work that we want done next year. It was amazing that all the work was done within a week of Nelson coming out for the estimate. He knows that I really wanted the walls in the bathroom done before Christmas because of family coming. And he did it! Guilarmo and his assistant were amazing and did great work. They worked hard and efficiently, were flexible about where they started working (a plumber was fixing the upstairs leak on the first afternoon they were here so Guilarmo and his assistant started in the basement until the plumber was done) and cleaned up their area at the end of the day.

Despite a much higher estimate than other service providers, I chose Lofft on the basis of their reputation and because Nelson (who priced the initial contract) seemed to understand the magnitude and detail-oriented nature of some of the water problems that were occurring on the outside of my house, and how to fix them. The person who performed the work (Nicholas), however, did not understand or know the terms of the contract (down to the type of paint that I requested) and his work was sloppy and unprofessional. Paint was splattered everywhere, all over my windows and on the rest of the house. Work that was specified in the contract was either not performed without my having to point it out to Nelson or Nicholas, sometimes multiple times. Nicholas did not seem to check his own work (or the work of the other contractors) and thus made silly mistakes like hammering a dowel in upside down, not painting particular areas, or not sanding down putty repairs so that there were bumps in the facade of the wood During finishing of the painting of one of the glass doors, chunks of wood were taken out by razor blade and not repaired. As a result, a job that was supposed to take a week has dragged on for a month. When we've made arrangements to come back to fix the work that was done correctly, he has not shown up on time and not communicated with me that he would be late or was not planning on coming at all. Nelson has been extremely gracious and responsive, and even reduced the cost of the job (which originally was supposed to be $3200). But Nicholas who actually performed the work seems to lack any understanding of how to follow contract instructions, how to do a job right, and how to make his work look good (regardless of what Nelson or I told him to do or not to do). He also was unable to communicate whether there was something wrong with the trim or exterior of the house that I had not anticipated so that it could be fixed now without having to hire someone else to do it. In sum, he seems to lack any and all pride of workmanship, and overall I felt that he was trying to cut corners and do the least amount of work possible without making sure that it was done correctly, or that I was satisfied with the work. As a result, I have no confidence in the quality of the work that was done, and expect that I will have to have it redone in fairly short order.
Description of Work: Repair and paint wood trim, front door and garage door to exterior of brick house. Repair molding cement in exterior trim. Repair flashing and other water issues to house.

When I got the estimate, they implied that most of the plaster would have to be removed. This is why I understood the price to be so high. When they arrived to do the work, they did not make it sound like it was as large a project. The work was done well and done quickly. I arrived back home after the first day of work and all the plaster work had been done and some of the painting had begun. The second day the remaining work was done. I did have to let the worker know that painting the adjoining wall was part of the original contract, which he had no problem with (but I am not sure he had been informed). He went above and beyond the call of duty and painted the window and baseboard mouldings as well. Everything was cleaned up except some bits of plaster that got stuck to one of my light fixtures, and to my mini-blinds (which was fairly easy to clean up).

On the day they were supposed to work, the guys showed up a few hours late because of bad traffic, but they did call to say they were running late. They also didn't have all the tools/materials they needed to finish the job and had to leave and go to a home improvement store, which took a few more hours. Once they got started; however, they did a good job and I was satisfied with the final results. They ended up doing a little less work on the closet than the estimate called for, and as a result my final bill was a little bit lower than the estimate, which was nice. I did notice that they weren't replacing a part of the drywall that was obviously rotted, but once I pointed it out to Luis (the project manager), they fixed it. I would like to note that I filed an earlier report about an estimate that was never followed up on (after I had spent a good deal of time working on it with Lofft's sales team) and I likewise graded Lofft very harshly. I stand by that report, but felt it was only fair to file this report for work they did well for me. A few people from Lofft have called to talk to me about the harsh report, and although I still feel their communication could be much better, I appreciate there were tough circumstances involved.
Description of Work: I had some water damage that had rotted out baseboards and drywall along the wall, and had a sagging closet ceiling that needed to be replaced.

I was fixing various items in the condo for a new tenant, who was very particular about the scope of work and aggressive in making sure the place was to her specifications. With each change in the scope of work, I found Nelson of Lofft Construction to be extremely friendly, easy-going and flexible. They were able to do the work the day after I signed the final contract and finished everything in one day. I have not seen the finished product, but my tenant is satisfied with the work, so I am relieved and happy.
Description of Work: 1) replaced kitchen faucet, garbage disposal, lines and valves 2) replace bathroom vanity and reinstall existing sink 3) fixed drywall around vent intake 4) install new electrical outlet 5) repaired 1 hole in door and 1 hole in wall 6) reset existing closet doors 7) fixed chain lock on main door.

Lofft had done work for me in the past and even though we had problems with communication(they're horrible at returning calls)I decided to work with them again. Mike Cantrall, their new sales manager, came out and looked at the bathroom and gave me an estimate. The original estimate was for $13,000 on a tiny bathroom, just for replacing the shower, tile and toilet. This seemed extreme to me, and Mike told me he sent me an estimate that I shouldn't have seen. His next estimate, while lower, was very vague. When I tried to follow up and get details on what kind of tile, etc., I should use, Mike sent me to the hardware store. When I got back to him with more questions, he stopped returning my phone calls and em-ails. Subsequent phone calls to Lofft's main office were also unreturned. After past experiences where they proved horrible at returning calls and other communication, I've decided to move on to another company. I suggest that others do themselves a favor and skip calling Lofft. They're overpriced, poorly organized and horrible at basic communication.

Overall, the job went very well. Nelson the sales manager came over and suggested some ideas I hadn't thought of and I was very pleased with the results. He is also an architect by trade which really helps in his line of work. He was very knowledgeable, friendly, and responsive. The price was reasonable, and I would use them again. The only negative thing to say is that communication with some of the contractors was a little difficult because of a language barrier. My highschool spanish is all but fogotten. The contractors work was excellent despite the language differences.

This company was great! Nelson, our Sales and Support Representative, was very friendly and helpful, and visited the site many times, and was always available when we needed him. The job was scheduled AND completely quickly. The contractors were clean, concise, and did a great job! In the end, we have a brand new wall and door that look like they were there when the building was constructed - they fit perfectly in the room. They even matched the paint perfectly. I don't know how they did that! Nelson was patient and a pleasure to work with. After the job was complete, they cleaned up so completely after themselves no one ever would have known there had been someone in there constructing a wall. I am very impressed with this company.

Overall rating: The job went very well. The crew showed up on time and worked long hours when they could.
Description of Work: We hired Loft Construction Co. on June 20, 2008 to renovate (our finished, but outdated) basement and to turn our basement 1/2 bath into a full updated bath. We also had our powder room on the main floor updated. The job was started shortly after we signed the contract. My husband and I purchased all bathroom fixtures, toilets, sinks and shower stall to be used. Loft crew helped with the delivery of these items to our home. Demolition of basement walls, (paneling, insulation, framing, ceiling panels, old recessed lighting) and bathroom items removed. New framing, drywall, wiring, baseboards, new recessed lighting were installed to our satisfaction. Two crew man were especially great to have work on our home, Alex and Andreas. Their professional demeanor and knowledge, not to mention that they took time to answer questions and explain the work to me as we went along, was most appreciated! Our basement was finished by July 21,2008 and we are really enjoying our new family room. The bathrooms are fully updated and look great! Thank you Loft Construction. Also had new tiles installed in laundry room.

Just uploading pictures for now, will fill in more details later.
Description of Work: Note: The total cost of the kitchen was $20,800. The cost above was what I paid Lofft. I bought the cabinets, counter top, appliances, lights, sink and fixture myself separately. They completely redid my kitchen, replacing everything from the floor to the appliances to the cabinets and counter tops and the light fixtures. They also remove one of the walls and created a bar area. The biggest challenge in my kitchen is that the whole thing is 9' x 6' and I live in Dupont Circle so parking is horrible. And I'm never home so I needed a company who would take care of everything although I didn't mind doing some running around on weekends if it saved me money.

I had asked Lofft back in 12/07 or 1/08 to provide quotes on a number of items, including a new roof. I finally got around to acting on the quote in 9/08, so I called up Alex Sanguinetti and sure enough the quote was still good. He had a crew arrive the following Monday, by Thursday they were done. They did have to replace some panels at extra cost, but that was clearly spelled out in the estimate and photos of the bad panels were provided as proof. It seems to be fairly high quality, too. I did have to call them back to attach a way to secure the roof hatch, but they were very accommodating even with this request.

Overall, I was very pleased with the results I got for the price I paid. This installation was a budget-minded job because I was really upgrading my home to be able to rent or sell it, and not for personal use. If this kitchen had been for me, little details like paint that ran onto the baseboard would have annoyed me more (I'm a perfectionist!). But given that Lofft's price handily beat all their competitors, I was very pleased with how it came out. The main part of the installation took about 10 business days. Lofft gave me a project plan from the beginning and did a decent job of sticking to it until the very end. The installers were very polite, and although there were some language barriers, the men knew their work and were insistent on cleaning up the work site at the end of each day, which makes a difference when you still live there. At the very end of the project, some details went unresolved for a few weeks, but nothing substantial. For example, the dishwasher became unscrewed from the granite and one piece of cabinet needed to be replaced because the grain came out looking weird. In retrospect, here's my advice: Find someone else to help you create a design. Lofft's biggest weakness is their kitchen design, but their installation is where the value is. Know what you want (style, color, budget) and know what layout you want for your kitchen. Almost every contractor is willing to come out to your home and brainstorm ideas with you. Just make sure to write them down. If you need help with design, work with a different company, like a hardware store. Get your cabinets from the hardware store. The cabinets Lofft got for me from a different company were not nearly as nice as the hardware store ones. But again, you can't beat Lofft's price for installation, and that's the biggest part of the cost.
Description of Work: My 1985 kitchen was completely remodeled including new cabinets, appliances, flooring, and paint. Over a period of two weeks, the installers from Lofft removed all the old cabinets, flooring, and appliances in my kitchen (though they left my old fridge plugged-in in the living room, so I could continue using it) and built the new kitchen back up from the bottom. My installation included 42-inch maple cabinets, granite countertops, an under-mounted relocated sink, under-cabinet lighting, stainless steel range, fridge, dishwasher, and over-the-range microwave. They also installed a custom-designed Travertine floor.

Great! It was a pretty big job, but the Lofft crew showed up almost every day, including some Saturdays. Because of the scope of the job, they frequently had to check with me about various items and decisions, either by phone or in person. They were very agreeable about our changes and suggestions and were willing to make substitutions for fixtures, appliances, etc. They all really knew their jobs and were very good in their specific areas of expertise. They started their days early and ended late, and they always cleaned up before they left. The final product looks great, and I would definitely hire them again.

I am very happy with the quality of the work and the design. I would definitely recommend Lofft to anyone else doing a kitchen remodel. I have a very small kitchen (in a one-bedroom condo), which prior to the remodel didn't have a single drawer. Mike did a very creative job making extra storage space in the kitchen design, including figuring out a way to install an under-the-sink dishwasher with a garbage disposal, which I'd been told by another contractor was impossible. The crew did beautiful work and I was so pleased with them that I added on a few other smaller jobs (painting, installation of an outlet) while they were there. The job did take a couple weeks longer than the contracted completion date, which I didn't mind too much because I'm very happy with the end result.

LOFT Construction left me with a signed contract and no work was performed. Mr. Sanguinetti gave me his word that he would do the work but nothing was done. He was aware that I was under a tight timeline and he left me in a very bad situation by not performing the work. Please DO NOT use LOFT Construction. It is not a professional company.
