It wasn?t the best job that we had got done. We have some folding doors. When they came to replace the baseboards, their ladders hit and broke one of the doors. They did have a carpenter come out and fix that later. However, it wasn?t restored very well. The baseboards were not done very well either. There are gaps in between and they are uneven. We will not recommend them to anybody. The quality of their work wasn?t good.
Description of Work: We used Lofft Construction. They completed the work, three months ago. They replaced the baseboards. They also cleaned out the gutters.

The project took much longer than expected because of difficulties with the vendor through which all fixtures were ordered. However the work crew and project manager kept me well informed about the delays and checked in regularly with updates. In the end I am thrilled with the new space. It is all I envisioned. I am now preparing to engage Lofft to remodel a second bathroom.
Description of Work: Extended bathroom into part of bedroom and converted existing space to walk in closet. Retile floor and build new tiled shower with bench;replace all bathroom fixtures including lighting and exhaust fan;paint bathroom and bedroom.

The bathroom turned out nice, but only after a lot of aggravation and work on my part. We first met with a sales guy who talked about design and the contract. Once the contract was signed, we never saw or heard from him again. We were turned over to a project manager and the workers, who did not have any idea of the design details we planned out with the sales guy. Thus, if I was not available to oversee the work, the workers would have had no idea what we wanted. The workers generally did a good job, but the project manager was basically absent from the whole process. He was supposed to be a communication link between me and the workers, which was important because the workers' English was not the best. Because of the lack of oversight, some problems occurred, the biggest being that the opening they made for the shower was too big to fit the shower door I purchased. After much back and forth, they agreed to take my shower door and buy me a shower door that fit the opening. This was a good resolution to the problem, but the problem should not have occurred in the first place. The sales guy told us that we should buy our own materials instead of getting them through Lofft so that we could save money. We took this advice and purchased most of the materials, including the shower door, on our own. This was thrown back in my face when the shower door problem occurred, as I was told that it was unusual for a homeowner to buy all the materials, and that the problem wouldn't have happened if Lofft had bought the shower door for me. The other major problem is that the workers grouted the joints in the shower where the walls meet. As I learned only after the fact, this is a big no no, as the grout is not flexible and will crack. Sure enough, we started seeing cracks in the grout almost immediately. After some fighting, I made the workers come back, remove the grout, and install colored caulk to match the grout color. Why this wasn't done from the start is beyond me, but it dragged the project out longer than expected and caused a lot of unwelcome stress. Overall, the bathroom turned out nice, and the price was right, but the management is unreliable and the overall project supervision is sorely lacking.

The Lofft representative was punctual for our 9 a.m. appointment. We told him the things that we wanted to do, one of which was to install new countertops in our kitchen. He asked if we were going to replace the kitchen cabinets because to do the job right he said we'd need to take our cabinets out to install flooring beneath them. In addition, right off the bat he indicated that to take out the existing cabinets and reinstall them would be $2,000. We said we were not going to do that. He also discussed a problem with respect to installing flooring in the kitchen and not being able to remove the dishwasher if it needed to be replaced (due to a lip forming in front of the dishwasher and limited clearance between the dishwasher and the new countertop). We understood his concern and we continued with getting measurements in the house. When he was done with the measurements, the rep indicated that he would get back to us with an estimate. I had his business card and I called him just over a week later and left a voice message and asked him to call me back and let me know where things were. To date, I have not received any contact from Lofft since the day the rep came out to measure. In three days it will have been three weeks since our one and only contact with the rep. I asked Lofft to come out because of the glowing reports I saw on Angie's List. I have had two additional estimates, and have contracted with one other company for one of the jobs that I had Lofft come out to measure. A call back would have earned Lofft a decent rating from me, even if only to say we're too busy to take on your job or that my job is too small. I'm extremely disappointed.
Description of Work: Appointment to take measurements for estimates to install cork flooring in a galley kitchen, hardwood flooring in about 3/5ths of our townhome main level, and quartz countertops in our kitchen. We also wanted an estimate for an additional project if it was within our budget--reflooring our basement with cork flooring.

After numerous phone calls and emails the estimate never came. After a walkthrough with the consultant (Leon Zajdel) an estimate was promised a few days later for major renovation work. Two and a half weeks later no contact was ever made even after leaving him several messages and contacting the main office. Wasted my time with watiting on them.

The estimate never came. When I called the company at the 30 day point to ask if they intended to submit one, the receptionist took my information and said she'd call me back in a couple of hours after talking to Leon. Neither she nor Leon called me back nor have I ever received the estimate. So they are either horribly disorganized, don't want to do this type of work, or aren't professional enough to tell me that they don't want the job for whatever reason. None of which would bode well for entering into a contract with them, so add into your data if considering them for a job.
Description of Work: Lofft Construction came out to provide an estimate to remodel our garages, pour new driveway and front walks, reroof, new gutter system, and paint the entire house. Leon came out on schedule, seemed personable and knowledgeable, and promised to provide the estimate within a week.

Worked primarily with Luis, who is an excellent manager and problem-solver. With any contract project there will be bumps in the road and some miscommunications on one or both sides, and all have been handled with tremendous grace by Luis. We are not easy clients: toddler, cats, condo management, etc to deal with, on top of a homeowner who gets new ideas mid-work. (I call it "organic thinking" -- but if I were a contractor I might call it a PITA.) The results are good and professional. Falls a little short of perfect, but I think perfect would have to come at a more premium price point.
Description of Work: Our project involved light remodeling of our 2 bed condominium, and the scope of work eventually included built-to-spec furniture, electric upgrading (installation of new outlets and CAT cabling), installation of plumbing appliance, and whole-unit painting.

Excellent. My kitchen and basement are better than before the water leak occurred. Plus, Lofft was extremely reasonable for its services - cheaper than the insurance estimate.
Description of Work: I had already submitted a review for Lofft based on their excellent work in fixing water damage in my kitchen and bathroon. However, I had to add something that I think really distinguishes them as trustworthy. After I submitted my previous review, the dishwasher, which Lofft had to remove for the repairs, could not be reinstalled properly. Lofft made every effort to repair the damage, and then graciously agreed to reimburse me for a new dishwasher. How great is that! I didn't have to beg or plead; they offered, no problem.

Overall it went well. The contractors were trustworthy, and seemed to know what they were doing. It is important to remain in touch with management so that details don't get lost or forgotten. Meetings are important too, so that everyone is on the same page. We plan to use them again for our next project.
Description of Work: Complete update of exsisting kitchen. Replaced back door with double french doors in back wall. Removed architectural columns from Dining room and replaced wood in flooring after columns were taken out. Removed shed in back yard and rebuilt steps from french doors to patio. Overall, the work went very well. It began within days of its scheduled start time with demolition. The crew did their best to keep the rest of the house free of dust and debris. Our kitchen remodel was fairly simple, staying within the footprint of the existing kitchen-dining room areas, but removing the wall that used to separate them. The carpenters worked quickly to reinforce our subfloor by sistering the existing joists, building up the kitchen island and new walls to create the powder room; plumbers installed their pipes and fixtures fairly quickly. Of all the work done, the electrical work seemed least organized and professional. Gang boxes were installed in obviously wrong places, wiring had to be redone several times as it didn't go to the right places. The electrician Lofft put on our job had to come back again and again to fix his own work. In an otherwise solid job, I felt electrical was the weakest performer. It was needlessly time consuming and frustrating. Once the electrical work was done and the drywall went up, the cabinet installation could proceed. On the whole, this went well, but there were a few mistakes made, which I attribute to some of the crew members being less experienced than others. These mistakes -- hanging certain cabinets upside down, at the wrong height from the counter, incorrectly installing molding, were, for the most part, reversible, but time consuming. The good news, and this is I think Lofft's strength, is that all mistakes were fully acknowledged, never defensively, and Lofft sent crew back again and again until we were happy with the fixes. We've done various jobs around the house over the years with various contractors, and I would say that mistakes, construction surprises ( in an old house ) are inevitable. We were happy that Lofft always patiently was willing to make the fixes, without trying to tack on additional costs. Our granite countertops were farmed out to a subcontractor Lofft had previous experience with. In retrospect I don't think I got any better deal on this piece of the remodel than I would have had I gone through a major, big-box retailer like Lowe's. The cost was almost exactly the same, and the installation was not perfect. Despite measuring extensively, the granite contractor did not cut the backsplash correctly ( and never mentioned his mistake ). Painting and finish work was all fine. Lofft's work on our second project: refinishing floors and installing a new metal roof while integrating existing skylights went smoothly and I am happy with the work. On the whole, I am happy with Lofft's work. By comparison with the 4-5 other estimates we obtained, they were very reasonably priced, performed the work without any major problems, and we are happy with the results. The main manager/owner, Alex, is first-rate, responsive, patient, smart. Where we had the few problems mentioned above, he stayed in touch with us until we were happy, listening to our concerns, checking in regularly, making us feel that he wouldn't be happy until we were happy. That gave us great confidence, and made the experience a good one. Ultimately, the final product is one we are happy to have.
Description of Work: Two projects: Lofft Construction completely remodeled our kitchen, master bath, and added a new powder room/half bath in the first project ( Nov '08 - Feb '09). Installed a new standing seam metal roof, refinished all the wood floors in our house, and tiled part of our basement ( Aug '09- Sept '09). For the first project, Lofft supplied skylights and recessed light fixtures. I bought all cabinets, tiles, appliances, fixtures, paint. For the second project, Lofft provided all materials. Lofft staff were: Alex, a senior manager/owner, Leon, an estimator/salesman, John, a project manager, Juan Carlos, the foreman, and a core crew of 3-4 carpenters/laborers.

We asked Lofft to provide an estimate for structural work as part of our rowhome renovation. This included creating a new rear addition (foundation, framing, masonry), and framing an interior atrium. The rep was prompt in coming out and looking at the property, and left with a set of plans, SOW, and spec sheet, promising to provide an estimate within 7-10 days. After three weeks and multiple phone calls, we never received an estimate. I could understand if they didn't want the work. But they kept insisting that the quote would be provided "the next day". So we gave up and went with another company. Not a disaster, but certainly annoying since we wanted a range of bids.

We had extensive water damage to our kitchen floor and basement floor and walls. Lofft was recommended to us by Shy at Ant Builders, since she was not available as soon as we wished. Leon came out soon after we called and surveyed the damage. He made excellent suggestions on how to repair and upgrade at the same time. The Lofft estimate was more reasonable than the one given to us by our insurance-company-approved company. Lofft was able to start work quickly, and took the time to have a pre-work walkthrough, where we met the project manager, Alex Sanguinetti, and the onsite manager, Pablo. The workmen came when promised, worked carefully and efficiently, and in short did a great job. We made some modifications as we went along, and Lofft handled them well. Our basement now looks much better than before the water damage occurred. The tilework in the kitchen and foyer is absolutely beautiful. Speaking of the tilework, removing the existing tile was a horrendous job and much more difficult than anticipated. Vito and Maurie were unbelievably dedicated to getting the job done well. They even worked on a Saturday and Sunday. Alex was unbelievably responsive, and took care of the inevitable glitches quickly and charmingly. Alex went on a well-deserved vacation near the end of the job, and Luis, his replacement, took over seamlessly. I never worried that things would not be done, and done right.

We had several companies and indivdual handymen out to give us estimates on the project. Lofft was, by far, the most professional company and offered the best prices. The first estimate included all of the work from demo to the finishing touches, which was about $11,500. The estimate was out of our price range (my husband and I are both teachers), so I asked Maria (the woman who came out to take the measurements and discuss our desires) if there was anything they could do to work with our budget. She was so helpful and supportive. We decided to contract Lofft to do all of the work that my husband and I couldn't do (drywall, plumping, demo, electrical, etc.), and we decided to do the painting and installation of the closet and bathroom hardware ourselves. In hindsight, we would have had them do the bathroom floor tile as well, because that was a pretty big job. Their willingness to work with our budget was both impressive and encouraging. Guillermo, the project manager was so efficient! The entire job took no more than 6 days. They were on time (and sometimes early) each day, and left between 4 and 5 each afternoon. At the end of each day, the would clean up thoroughly. We were so impressed with everything! Throughout the project, Maria would check in with me to make sure everything was being done to our satisfaction. We never had a single complaint!
Description of Work: Guillermo and another worker enlarged our master bathroom by knocking out the wall between the exising bath and walk-in closet, moved the plumbing, added sconce and recessed lights, and built a 1/2 wall behind the comode to provide some privacy between the shower/comode area and the vanity. They also built a new walk-in closet in a different part of the bedroom by adding a wall, recessed lights, and two sets of double doors.

Alex Sanguinetti really stood by his work. While not all projects go smoothly 100% of the time, Alex made it right. We experienced some delay in completion of the work due to special order materials - Hydroponic Towel Warmer from England. When this arrived it was damaged and had to be replaced. This caused a two month delay. During this wait, I was still able to use the shower and bathroom. The construction crew at Lofft was courteous and trustworthy. It's a bit unnerving surrendering the keys to your house and worldly possessions to virtual strangers, but they were very respectful and as unobstrusive as possible. I most appreciate Alex's willingness to take on a partially completed project from another construction company (bathroom 2). I had hired this other company due to favorable pricing but later fired them due to delay and incompetence. After Alex agreed to resume this responsibility, he completed this bathroom in just over a week. I'm now finished with Phase 1 (Bathroom and Kitchen) and Phase 2 (Second Bathroom) and soon going to start on Phase 3 - Front Porch. Will I call Lofft? You betcha!!
Description of Work: In phase one, I had a full bathroom remodel and a kitchen ceiling remodel performed. I wanted a very upscale look and feel to which many of the materials had to be special ordered from England. This added to length of time for the work to be finished. It was worth the wait - it is gorgeous, a true show stopper. I also had a second bathroom (phase 2) contracted with another company. Unfortunately, I had to fire this other company. I then called Alex Sanguinetti and Lofft Construction and they stepped in to complete this second bathroom. I recognized that it was a difficult situation for Lofft to have to pick up from another construction company's work - but Alex and Lofft Construction really came through. They finished the work on the second bathroom in just over a week.
