Had an appointment schedule to get an estimate for roof repairs, possible siding repairs, interior painting, insullation and some other miscellaneous work we wanted done after damage from an ice dam. We had the appointment schedule and even reconfirmed on the Friday afternoon letting them know that we might also be interested in getting an estimate to replace our countertops. The appointment was for 10:30 and no one called or showed up. We call and left a message asking if there was some problem and we have never heard from them since with any sort of explanation, apololgy, etc. At this point I'm not sure we would want to do business with a company that treats possible customers this way.

The salesman arrived on time for initial appointment. He took an extra few days from when he said the quote would be done. The price was reasonable and they arrived on time to start work. We planned to use these small projects as a trial run for the kitchen and bath remodeling we planned to have done. There was a foreman and two workers. The foreman was on site the first day and then only when we requested him to arrive and check on the work of the workers. Eighty percent of the work was done well and promptly. However, several items needed rework upon my review or had problems. Example 1, I asked for ceiling fans with a remote control to be installed. The remote control was a separate unit bought at home depot. When the ceiling fans were installed, the remote controls were opened but not installed. When I spoke with the foreman about why they were not installed a day later he said the remote control transmitter did not fit. That's fine but I was not told there was a problem until I asked about it two days later. My intentions were clear about having a remote control installed. For the price I was paying I expected a call about the transmitter not fitting and then some options on another remote control that does fit. Example 2, the interior doors were solid wood and my house is over 50 years old. The doors were installed but did not open and close freely. When the foreman came to inspect the work (which I requested he do), he said the house was old and the doorways had warped so they were no longer square. I said I understood the problem but I wanted a solution to the problem. Reframe the doors, shave them down, adjust the hinges, something. I?m not a carpenter. I hired professionals to solve the problem. Example 3, the ceiling fans were installed in ceiling fixtures that had dimmer switches. The dimmer switches were not replaced with normal switches. The result was a noisy fan and poor operation. I again asked the foreman to examine the fans and replace the switches so they would operate correctly. The workers told me one ceiling fan was broken because it made a lot of noise when they installed it. I returned the fan and got a new one. After the others were installed I figured out that the fan wasn?t broken, he had installed it on a dimmer switch. The switches should have been replaced at installation. I?m not an electrician but I know that ceiling fans do not work properly on dimmer switches and I paid for properly installed ceiling fans which includes the fan in the ceiling, the wiring and switches. Example 4, overhead lights were installed in the closets. After they finished I tried the lights and they were very dim. I also realized that the exhaust fan in the bathroom came on when I turned the lights on. I surmised the wiring was done incorrectly. I asked the foreman to come and examine the work and have it repaired. Why do I have to review every item and ensure it works properly? I am not an electrician but I found these mistakes. Mistakes happen but they should be corrected at installation before moving on to something else. The workers were not careful in the non-work areas of our home. They did not put plastic or tarps over furniture just outside the work area. Some spackle was found on our couch. Dust from their work was all over our family room. There were several small chips and scrapes to our walls where they were not careful carrying wood or tools. After they hauled away their trash at the completion of the job I discovered two dozen screws and nails on my driveway where I could have driven over them or my three year old daughter could have found them. It seems they did not sweep the driveway, just grabbed the large rubbish. While the work was being done, I asked for a quote on having our exterior doors replaced. I emailed the salesman the specifics on some doors to be installed. The foreman asked if we had received a call from the salesman. We had not. He said he would have the salesman call us with a quote. As of this writing, it has been over 30 days since I emailed the salesman asking for a quote. We have not heard yet. My wife and I went over these examples and several more with the foreman. He was initially surprised to learn we did not plan to hire them again. Upon reviewing our emails and voicemails to him, he was very apologetic.
Description of Work: Install three ceiling fans, install 8 interior doors, remodel playroom (gut existing walls and shelves, remove fluorescent lights, replace sheetrock, install canned lights, install closets and doors), add lighting to closets, sheetrock around slop sink in laundry room, install light fixtures

I couldn?t be happier with them. I had painted the basement one day before heavy rains were coming, and I was worried it would flood. Even though it was well past their quitting time, they stayed an extra two hours to get the shingles put on the roof. It was a Saturday, and they worked 10 hours that day. They did a really good job of the work and the design, and I was extremely impressed that they were willing to stay. They told me when they were coming and showed up when they said. I have used them twice now and I plan to use them again.
Description of Work: I have a half-submerged basement that had some flooding issues when it rained. They put on a side roof that covered the stairwell down to the basement to help alleviate some of the water problems. They also put in two stair railings.

Paul from Lofft did my estimate and was helpful from beginning to end. The big selling points for me were - he came out on a weekend, and - he told me that what I was asking wasn't really that hard, and that I could do it myself. He wasn't pushy at all (unlike many contractors), and made me a great deal (better than other estimates). Very friendly and accomodating. Later, when I had some scheduling issues, he was quite flexible. He worked around my hours and set me up with a capable professional carpenter, Jonas. They were also helpful in giving me options on how the project could be accomplished. The only issues that I had with Lofft were minor ones, quality and punctuality. Quality- I asked for all the drywall within 2 feet of the floor to be removed and replaced. Instead, the drywall was removed and replaced at varying heights throughout the basement. There may have been a language barrier. There were also a few spots where the workers had been in a hurry: dents in the dywall, unsanded sections, missing baseboards, etc. These could have been fixed if they asked me to take a look at the final product as they were leaving, but they just left. Punctuality - The crew finished ahead of schedule, which I was very happy about. However, they took several days to return and remove the large pile of debris from the job. Overall I am happy, and have no issue with calling upon Lofft again.
Description of Work: I had some water damage in my finished basement, and contracted Lofft to remove and place damaged drywall, and put in new baseboards.

I am very pleased with the finished projects and my experience working with Lofft Construction. Manuel and his crew were excellent craftsmen, especially with the ceramic tile installation. The quality of their work was exceptional. The bathroom remodel was a challenging project due to the confined space and multiple previous remodels in this old house. Lofft was very good at maintaining communication especially as plans had to be revised during the project due to unforeseen structural limitations. Alex, the project manager, was easily reachable by phone and email. Lofft was responsive to fix any shortcomings until the project met my satisfaction. The work took longer than expected and exceeded the budget; however, this was mostly attributable to the unanticipated changes that became necessary to complete the projects. I would favorably consider Lofft Construction for future projects.
Description of Work: Remodel existing bathrrom: removing old bathroom fixtures, tile, and subfloor; install new subfloor and ceramic tile finish; construct new shower; retile walls; repair and paint plaster walls; connect plumbing to and install new fixtures; install electric wiring for new lights and vented exhaust fan; and install glass shower enclosure. Repair and paint porch roof: remove existing porch roof material, flashing and ceiling plywood; repair structural attachment of porch to house; replace damaged wood; and paint.

A few weeks before Christmas I invited Lofft to install hardwood floor in the guest bedroom and to install ceramic tile in the basement and sun room. A requirement was that the work be completed before New Year's eve since we were hosting a New Year's eve party. An unusual feature of this contract is that I supplied almost all the materials: hardwood flooring, ceramic tile, cement board, grout, thinset and shoe molding. Byron and his crew expertly and beautifully installed the hardwood floor and shoe molding. Erick did an exquisite job installing the ceramic tile. The wood and ceramic flooring were installed well before New Year's eve as promised. Subsequently we realized that the grout was not sealed and that there was a substantial gap between the floor molding and the ceramic tile. To address these problems which were not considered (the problems were not forseen) in the original contract, I paid Lofft an additional $350. The reason for the B in responsiveness: the job of sealing the grout and installing the shoe molding was not completed until 4 February, more than a month after the bulk of the work was done. The reason for the B in professionalism: there was a billing error and the amount billed initially was more than the estimated figure. The billing error was corrected without difficulty. The basis for the A overall: 1) outstanding workmanship, 2) competive price and 3) the willingness of the contractor to allow the customer to supply the materials. Had I focused on how long it took to complete the job or the billing error I might have given Lofft a B for overall performance but that was not as important to me as the quality of the finished product and the competive price. Overall I have been pleased with the services Lofft has provided, would highly recommend them to others and would readily use their services again.
Description of Work: Lofft installed: 1) hardwood floor and shoe molding (280 square feet), 2) Ceramic floor (660 square feet), 3) Sealed grout and installed shoe molding (660 square feet)

Lofft assisted with selecting the tiles, but I had some issues with their recommended supplier of fixtures (Ferguson was very expensive and was not responsive). The crew was basically two guys for a week. They were very attentive to detail and very responsive. They protected my carpet and cleaned up nicely. They also had design suggestions for the tile (brick pattern) that worked out very well. They put the tile to the ceiling per request and adapted as needed, putting in a nice threshold. They came back after a couple months when I was concerned about some caulk cracking (normal settling) and re-caulked. I was very pleased with their work.
Description of Work: I had Lofft replace an existing tub in the Master Bath with a custom tiled shower, new fixtures, and a new shower door. They also re-tiled the floor. This is essentially a partial renovation of the Master Bath.

Overall we were pleased with the results. The main problems were ones of timing and communication. We felt that we had explicitly communicated the extent of the work that needed to be done, especially in replacing old plumbing, but the person who wrote the bid either was not paying attention or did not communicate this information to the project manager. And despite the fact that we picked out all the fixtures a month before the job started, the vanity wasn't ordered until after the project started, entailing a 3-4 week delay and extending what was really about 2 weeks of labor into about 7 weeks before we could fully use the bathroom. Our wooden floors suffered some damage as well from all the foot traffic (and starting demolition without covering the floors until we asked). On the other hand, the workmen were friendly and courteous, phone calls and emails to the project manager got prompt responses, and the cost overruns (about 50%) were the result of our voluntary upgrades of the fixtures, which was certainly worth it to us. Lofft also came back several times after the end of the job to fix problems with the plumbing (due to equipment, not labor).

We hired Lofft to correct problems that a previous contractor had caused - this was actually a more difficult assignment than the original construction. It involved our bathroom, which we had hired Stone Style Home Design to remodel. The original job involved replacing a bathtub with a shower, replacing the sink and covering the walls with yellow onyx. Days after the job was completed, a joint in the plumbing inside the wall came apart. The contractor came quickly to fix it, but casued significant damage to the existing work in the process. We had them come back to repair it, but it was never well done, and the damage remained obvious. It also became clear that much of the work was sub-standard (no cutoff valve for the sink, etc.). Lofft took on the job of putting things to rights, and did an excellent job, correcting the sub-standard work and leaving bathroom looking as we wanted it to look. They always arrived on time, and did exemplary work.

I found Lofft on Angies List. They had high marks and looked like they could handle our project (which was pretty major). We first spoke several months before we began the project as we secured funding through a home refi which took much longer than we had expected but was definitely worth the wait. Once we had the funding, I contacted Lofft and let them know that we were ready to finalize the terms of the contract and sign. Once permits were secured, the contractor began demolition. The time between demo and continuation of the project was a little longer than I had expected, but I understand that it was due to the complexity of the project (removing a load-bearing wall) and all of the associated steps (design, approval of design, contruction of temporary supports, removal of wall, installation of beam, inspection and approval of beam). Luckily, we did the project during the late summer and early fall so we could use our back deck to cook meals while we were kitchenless. If I had to do it again, I probably would have requested that we keep the sink in place until it was absolutely necessary to remove it. I'd like to never have to do dishes in the bathroom again. The quality of the work was very good, but we also had very high expectations, so in the few cases where work was done that was inconsistent with what we thought we had requested, the contractor was always happy to correct. The contractor was responsive to our needs and feedbeack and did whatever he could to make sure we were always satisfied. Overall, the project went well. This was my first home renovation project, so I wasn't sure what to expect. My only major feedback would be to get more things in writing so that a record for all agreements exst (although I do have to say that Lofft always took our word for it when we reminded them that we had discussed a particular issue). Also, I had expected the project to take a 2-3 months (which it did) but was surprised when the contractor indicated that it could be done in a little more than a month. I would just say that homeowners know when their projects are major projrects and telling them the truth (that it's going to take 3 months) is ok. We are thrilled with the final project. We often host dinner guests, and everyone loves the new kitchen and living room. I'm saving for the next major project (new master bedroom suite) and would definitely use Lofft again.
Description of Work: Renovation of kitchen and living space - Removal of existing framed wall (non-load-bearing) between kitchen and living room - Removal of exiting exterior brick wall at back of the house (load-bearing) between kitchen and sun room - Design and Installation of support beam to support second level of house where brick wall was removed - Removed these walls to create one large "great room" living space - changed level of sun room floor to be same level as kitchen floor - Installed new french doors at back of house going onto deck - installed washer and dryer - changed height of two windows to accommodate placement of washer and dryer - refinished old hardwood floors - new plumbing - new framing - new drywall - repaired existing plaster - new floor boards - new ceiling - new electrical - new paint - new GE stainless appliances (fridge, dishwasher, GE cafe range, hood) and installation - new pendant lights - installation of surround sound system and mouting of new tv on wall - alterations to existing HVAC to accommodate new kitchen renovation - installation of condensor fan on roof to make room for back deck (which was built under a separate contract) - cabinets and granite were purchased and installed under a separate contract (cost not reflected here)

In the end I was very satisfied with the outcome. It was, however, about a month overdue. While some of the delays were due to unexpected developments --- particularly due to idiosyncacies with my apartment building -- others were delays due to mistakes in Lofft's failing to plan well. Had I not been travelling during much of the time of the contract, or had a family dependent on having a functioning kitchen, this could have been very frustrating. I think most of the difficulties arose from lack of clarity in planning and miscommunications between the person who negotiated the contract, a series of two project managers and the builder on site. Several times in the course of the contract I found myself calling multiple team members, leaving extended messages and emails only to find out I had called the wrong member of the team and none had communicated with the other. Lofft is a large concern with a great deal of experience, but also rather set in its ways and on a number of occasions resisted my choice of appliances and tiling because of they were not available from their regular suppliers. On a couple of occaisions this led to my ending up with better options than I might have chosen on my own (cabinets and cooktop) and on other occasions disappointed (choice of refrigerator). In order to expedite the job I more than once simply ordered supplies on line or went out and purchased materials myself. In the end, the builder on site, and the project manager that completed the job, were both accommodating and innovative in solving problems, exhibited great attention to detail, and followed through quite quickly in completing the punch list. Everyone I dealt with at Lofft was very nice, and even when I lost my temper over the challenges of communicating, they never lost theirs.

Lofft responded promptly to my call. Then Paul from Lofft came to the apartment to assess damage to the bathroom ceiling caused by a toilet leak from the upstairs apartment. He estimated one day of work at 60 per hour and the cost of materials. I received a written estimate, and Lofft was available to answer all my questions. Only a few days later Paul arranged for two carpenters to repair the damage. They finished in the job in less than half of one day! The professionals who repaired the ceiling were punctual, polite, and thorough. The total cost was reasonable, and Paul offered a 5% discount for Angie's List user's. I was able to pay by credit card. I highly recommend Lofft. I would call them again without hesitation.

What started as a simple remodel expanded when I decided to purchase a whirlpool tub rather than a standard bathtub. Since the bathroom is on the 3rd floor and the electrical box in the basement it required a lot of holes in ceilings and walls to run the wiring. Luis Andonegui, the project manager never blinked. He just set about finding the necessary workers to complete the project. When I then decided that I wanted the living space painted he sent me a marvelous painter in Carlos. Carlos worked 10 hours a day for 3 days completing the painting including using 2 colors for ceiling and walls. Thanks to Lofft Construction and especially to Luis's careful oversight I now have 2 beautifully redone bathrooms and fresh paint throughout. I am also rid of 1970s wrought iron stair railings and have beautiful woodwork in its place. I still have a couple of small projects that I would like to do and I will definitely use Lofft for them and will ask for Luis as project manager. He is a pleasure to work with.

To begin, the price we were quoted was the lowest of the 4 we received, but it was only a few thousand less than the next highest so not a huge red flag. I thought the price itself was very fair. The time frame we were quoted was 10 working days or 2 weeks. The work itself did not require too much in the way of finish carpentry as we were only doing the requisite baseboard and door casings (no crown molding or paneling). I did want to, however, stick with the original details of the house which was built in 1870 and match the trim as much as possible, which did not happen (I'll discuss later). Furthermore, I had a pretty good set of CAD drawings that I had developed that didn't leave a lot of guesswork for the contractor as everything was dimensioned and called out with schedules and such. With that said, I believed the job would run a bit more smoothly than it did. Framing went up pretty quickly and while there were some mistakes in the field, the contractor was quick to correct them at no charge. In my estimation these mistakes could have been avoided had there been more communication between the guys in the field and the foreman. Instead most of the questions were coming directly to me and skipping the proverbial chain of command. This created a disconnect between the field and the office and and resulted in materials such as doors being ordered in the wrong size to which they tried to hit me up for change orders which I fought them on and they were willing to concede. Electrically things went very smoothly. I furnished some new low voltage 3" recessed lights and Lofft installed them all over the second floor and it really looks amazing. Mechanically, the work was very minor. Basically, it consisted of extending a return air duct about 10 feet and terminating at a grille in the ceiling. Once again, I received a call from the guy in the field and while my Spanish is pretty good I couldn't fully understand what he was asking me and I inadvertently authorized him to change the size of the duct transition which basically also affected the grille size which now no longer was a "standard item" and which we are still waiting for which is kind of ridiculous. This is exactly the type of situation discussed earlier where ultimately any change should go through the foreman first not the client. Drywall and carpentry from a quality standpoint was great. No seams or imperfections. I was, however, pretty ticked off though that our wood floors were not covered and that I had to ask the fellas to put plastic over all the doors to the rooms not in use. To me, these are no brainers. The end result was more of a mess and hassle to clean the drywall dust than it should have been had the proper steps been done in covering stuff from the beginning. The trim work was all done very professionally. Nail holes caulked and such. I was a bit dismayed to find that the contractor couldn't match the door casings to the original and I know from experience, as I have a wood shop in my basement, that any profile can be easily matched with a trip to your local mill. At that point I didn't really care to press the issue and the casing that they presented was fine and looks good nonetheless. The painter did a wonderful job and was extremely diligent. We had all the doors stained and sealed which the contractor attempted to do (possibly in the interest of time) in one day which I got a bit bothered at in that a) the stain itself wasn't dark enough and b) hadn't had time to settle before the seal. I brought this to Alex's attention and once again he gladly fixed the problem at no charge which once again I appreciated. The end result is the doors look absolutely incredible. In the end, my wife and I are pleased with the quality of the work. It was a bit of a trip getting there, but the renovation definitely works for us. Although we were quoted 2 weeks which one knows usually means 4, ours took about 8 weeks. Much of that time was down time where literally nothing would be done for a week or in one case a few weeks while the foreman was on vacation. This drove my wife a little crazy. From the standpoint of a recommendation, I will say this: They are are an honest group of people from the salesperson to the foremen, to the guys in the field which in my book goes a long way. Also, they are quick to correct any mistakes and I do believe them when they say their goal is to have the client walk away happy.
Description of Work: Basically, the work consisted of taking the second floor of our Washington DC row home, which previous owners had made into one large loft-like room, and making it into two separate bedrooms. Previously, there was no drop ceiling (and no insulation for that matter) so you were basically looking at the structural joists and decking, which looked cool, but wasn't the most practical in terms of energy efficiency and $$$ of course. In dividing the room into two we still wanted to keep the open free flowing nature of the second floor so we added pocket doors in between the master bedroom and the second room. Below is the actual scope of work if interested. DEMOLITION, STRUCTURAL, FRAMING and INSULATION: • Demo and remove part of existing railing. • Frame-in small section of existing staircase opening to create floor for new closet in the master bedroom, as specified. • Frame in new partition walls to divide the existing room into separate master bedroom, second bedroom and hallway, using 2” x 4” studs (16” O.C.), with framings for pocket door between hallway and second bedroom, for 30” swing door (with transom) between hallway and master bedroom, and for French pocket door (with transom) between the two bedrooms. • Frame-in new closet in the master bedroom with framing for double pocket door. • Frame-in new closet in the second bedroom with framing for small 48” French style closet door. • Frame around existing skylight. • Install fiberglass insulation in the attic, where missing. ELECTRIC: • Furnish and install electric wiring for additional lights, switches and outlets and connect to existing fixtures, as specified. • Move existing switch, controlling lights and ceiling fan, inside the master bedroom. • Install customer provided light fixtures. • Install wiring for remaining low voltage lights (if space on existing circuit is available). • Install new telephone wiring and outlet. MECHANICAL: • Extend existing HVAC return duct, as indicated. • Furnish and install new 12” x 24” return air grill with integral filter. DRYWALL and CARPENTRY: • Furnish and install ½” GWB (gypsum board - drywall) on all new walls and ceiling, and get it paint ready (block, tape, compound and sand). • Furnish and install new sub-flooring in the master bedroom closet (over the close-in old staircase opening). • Furnish and install new interior doors, including solid core door with transom (and divided lights), French pocket door with transom (and divided lights), two pocket doors and two (2) 24” wide solid core closet doors. • Furnish and install new trim (matching the existing trim), including baseboard and door casing, where missing. PAINTING and STAINING: • Paint walls and ceiling with primer and two (2) coats of customer provided paint. • Stain wood doors and trim with two (2) coats of walnut stain and one coat of Poly-Urethane sealant. CLEANING: • Clean-up and haul away all project related debris.

Very responsive to my needs. Very propmt and dead-on accurate will the intial estimate. The owner, Alex, took a personal intrest in the quality of the work completed. Assigned an excellent project manager to ensure the work was complete properly. Some minor difficulties with one crew, but the compony went out of its way to ensure that I was happy with the results. I reccommend LOFFT Construction to anyone who wants quality work done at a reasonable price. I will be working with thecompany again in the future.

We got several different quotes for this project. We went with Lofft because of their Angie's List rating and because Alex, the owner, gave us a thorough and fair estimate. We also felt that Lofft's relatively large size would help guarantee that we could move in on time--because they had the resources to scale up if we ran into problems. Lofft started the project on time and finished just a week or so past our planned finish date--so generally on time. We were extremely happy with the painters that Lofft used for most of the house. They were very careful and did an excellent job. We were also very pleased with the work they did to refinish the hardwood floors. We felt that Alex listened to our priorities, gave us good advice and cared about doing a good job. He is a busy guy, but he was generally pretty responsive. Some of his subcontractors were better than others, as you might expect. The first electrician did not finish the job, and the work he did do was not impressive. But when we brought our concerns to Alex, he sent another electrician to finish the job. There was also some confusion about whether we were supposed to buy certain materials ourselves or whether Alex was supposed to acquire them. We also didn't always realize that we needed certain materials until the day or two before. So that created a bit of stress and a small amount of delay. I'd recommend sitting down with your contractor in the very beginning and laying out a very clear timeline of which materials they need when--and deciding who is responsible for getting each product. That should solve the problem. It all worked out in the end, and overall, we were very happy with the professionalism and competence of Alex and his team.
Description of Work: Lofft conducted a renovation of our 100-year-old row house. The work included painting all interior walls and ceilings, replacing the countertops, floor and hardware in the kitchen, repairing leaks in the roof, updating electrical outlets, replacing bathroom and kitchen faucets, removing carpet and refinishing hardwood floors throughout the entire house, adding a gas line for a new stove, installing new applicances, refinishing fireplace marble and installing a new mantle, installing new light fixtures throughout the house, and more.

After telephoning Martha, Alex (I believe he is the Lofft CEO) arrived at my house to assess the job. I showed Alex the shell and verbally described the work that was to be done. A few days later I sent Alex a statement of work that was subsequently incorporated into the contract. An unusual feature of this contract is that I supplied a good deal of the material needed to complete the work: all plumbing fixtures, all ceramic tiles, all cabinets, all windows, all doors, all hardware needed for the doors and closets, all the mastic needed for wall tiles and all thinset needed for flooring. I studied books on construction so I could make wise choices and speak knowledgeably to Alex. I also let separate contracts for HVAC and electrical work. I viewed work on this project as a partnership between Lofft and myself. When there were problems I worked with Nelson and Alex to solve them. Although I was pleased with the company that had built the shell, I chose Lofft because their bid was substantially lower and I got good vibes from Martha, Alex and Nelson, all of whom are a delight to work with. Nelson was in charge of the construction and at various times was assisted by Thomas in the plumbing and concrete work and by Alfredo in painting and framing. Nelson, who would like to be an architect, takes pride in his work, has a good sense of design and technically his work is almost always above criticism. I designed the floor and wall ceramic tile designs; invited Nelson to comment on my designs and his comments resulted in an improved design. Constructing and installing the rafter and beams in the guest bedroom required fine carpentry skills, strength and considerable know how. Nelson passed the tests with flying colors. Overall the work was done with a high level of craftsmanship and the work was done on budget. Who could ask for anything more? Lofft team --- your help in making my dream a reality is very much appreciated. Thank you Martha, Alex, Nelson, Thomas and Alfredo!
Description of Work: Under this contract Lofft Construction finished an 1100 square foot shell. This required breaking through a cement masonry wall to install a window and a doorway, replacing an existing door connecting the main house with the garage with a larger door, building a roof over the guest bedroom entrance, installing shingles and gutters on that roof, building several bulkheads, installing a cabinet over the refrigerator, framing the addition for drywall, installing insulation, installing the drywall, painting the entire addition and the existing kitchen, installing plumbing for a wet bar, providing two full turnkey bathrooms, installing rustic (exposed) rafters and beams in a room with a cathedral ceiling and constructing several closets. The bathroom work required: building a custom shower basin, installing two toilets, two vanities and one bathtub/shower, installing ceramic floor and wall tiles. The wet bar work required installing a sink, dishwasher, instant hot water and the installation of floor and wall cabinets.

They sent electricians over to do work. They didn't speak English. They told me they were going to be here one day, and then didn't show up for days. They left so many holes in my house that I had to hire someone to come out and repair all of the work that they messed up.

My husband and I contracted Loft Construction to remodel our master bathroom during the summer. We were very pleased with the results. All contractors were very professional and knowledgeable. They would clean the room every day before leaving the house, which for me was a great plus. Loft guys completed the renovation in two weeks, as expected. Contractors were always punctual and did a great job.

The cost estimate that Lofft provided us was extremely competitive, and was probably the ultimate reason why we selected them for our job, in addition to the positive reviews on Angie's List. Lofft helped us obtain competitive prices with vendors they have established relationships with for materials we purchased ourselves. That impacted our overall project costs in a very positive way. We especially liked the crew that we had - these two young men were very talented in all the various trades and handled 90% of the remodeling work. They were punctual and careful workers and took direction very well. Our project manager was an affable person and made himself available to calls/email when we needed to reach him. He was good about getting back to us. Lofft also provided good follow up for two problems we experienced after the main construction was done, and sent someone out to resolve the issues without further cost to us. One area that was a little more challenging at first was communication - we found that the best result was obtained if we clarified any issues/concerns not only with our project manager, but with the crew that worked the job on site. We found that there were times that not all those parties were on the same page. Another area that surprised us was the order of construction - although we specified a certain logical sequence of events in our preconstruction meeting, the job crew on site handled things in a different order, which made things more difficult for them as the project went on. We think that might have been due to the communication gap mentioned above. In the final invoice Lofft had made some minor changes which they did not first discuss with us. We found the difference in price to be minor, and given their explanation, we did pay it (our tile floor ended up taking much longer to install due to a complicated pattern). But we would have preferred they present the change to us using a change order rather than just putting it on the final invoice. (This was a little strange, because they did use a change order for one other item we had to add in process.) Bottom line: we would use them again for another project. Lofft did make sure we were happy with the results during construction and upon job completion.
Description of Work: We hired Lofft Construction to handle a remodeling project for the first floor of our rowhouse - they handled just about every aspect of the space except the kitchen (not in need of an upgrade). We worked with them on a fairly tight timeframe and they delivered the major components on time. We had a hardwood floor torn up and hauled away, new slate floor put in with radiant heat, drywall and trim finishing around a separate project which exposed brick in our living room, interior painting of ceiling/trim/walls, a new patio door installed, and a new concrete threshold poured. The work took about a calendar month from start to finish (not all of which was work time).

Lofft did a fantanstic and very professional job. Within two weeks of calling for our estimate (lowest of 3 by several thousands), Lofft construction was on site for our job. The job supervisor, Manuel, was particularly keen to do a high quality job, and wanted to be proud of the finished product. The construction was done within 5 days, and the painting and finish work took only a few more days to complete. All the workers were polite, professional, and dedicated to the job. I will certainly use them for future projects in my home.
Description of Work: Rip out existing basement walls and dispose of all waste. Frame new walls and ceiling, create a new closet, and install drywall thrughout. Install new recessed lighting and chandliers. Install four new outside windows and hang four doors. Paint, trim, and finish all above, including stairs and railings. Carpet new finished space.
