Description of Work: I called to get an estimate over the phone, and they refused to give me one, saying that they had to come to my home to look at the locks. This was to re-key 4 door locks. Two other locksmiths, reputable ones in my area did not hesitate to give me a verbal phone estimate. Needless to say, I did not consider using this company.

Description of Work: This company changed 2 locks for me, and although expensive, they promised to return if I had a problem. As it turned out I was rehabbing from an injury that involved my hands, so they had to return two times. My hands were too weak to turn the key. The first time they returned, they tried to adjust both locks, but ended up having to come back again to install a different kind of lock. If your lock is more than 10 years old, as mine was, they will advise you to install new locks rather than re-key them.

Description of Work: Had a Kwikset deadbolt lock that was 18 years old and the the lock finally stopped working. I called Keyed In LLC around 2:30 on 10-20-2012 and at 3:30 on 10-20-2012, the locksmith was here removing the old lock and putting in a new one. Time will tell if the lock is a good one. It is replacing one that worked flawlessly for 18 years. So, the clock is ticking. I have no knowledge of the lock that they used (a Maxtech). I have heard of Schlage, Yale, Masterlock, Lockey, Kwikset and others, but this is the first time I have ever heard of a Maxtech. I'm not finding much good or bad about the Maxtech brand online (but perhaps my research skills leave something to be desired). My locksmith was named Guy Shimon and he was a fantastic person. Personable and very fast at what needed to be done. Very polite and neat. The company honored a discount, and offered a discount coupon to me for being a member of Angie's List. So, for now, the company gets a solid B rating. If they used a lock I had heard of, I'd have no problem giving them an A or A+. Based on everything else, I would use them again. I'm not a DIYer. I do know that I could have probably bought what I needed at Lowe's or Home Depot for around $50 or less and installed this in roughly 30-60 minutes on my own. So, I'm sure a paid a premium for something that a DIYer could have done his/herself for a LOT less, but for anyone not handy with doing these types of things, it was worth the extra I paid (if the lock is a good one) to have the door functional again. They are a business and not a charity. So, I expect them to make a profit. How much profit is a subjective matter. :-) They are based in D.C. and had to commute roughly 25 miles (40-minutes) to get to my house in Columbia. Time, gas, materials, labor, it all has a price. I don't feel as good as I would have if I had done it myself, but I feel like it was a fair transaction performed quickly, professionally and at a price that did not break my bank.
