We have been clients of Jim's since 2001, and have always been happy with their service. With the exception of a few repairs, we have mainly contracted with Jim's to clean the coils, etc. of our Sub Zero fridge, originally, and now our KitchenAid fridge, twice a year. The two-year prepaid contracts we have signed with Jim's have specified when each cleaning would take place, and we have received a call like clockwork to schedule each appointment. Until now. I recently realized that we hadn't had a cleaning this year, though there should have been one in January based upon the established schedule. When I called the office, I was told that they had called me "numerous times" (I received NO messages), and because I had not called back, I had "forfeited the cleaning." Wow -- really? Is that any way to treat a client? No apology and a fair amount of push-back. Very disappointing. The woman in the office agreed to "reinstate" my account, scheduled the forgotten cleaning, and promised to send a new contract with the service technician when he comes. While I will most likely re-up with Jim's for another series of cleanings, I need to give it some thought after such shabby treatment. Let me be clear: we have always been happy with the technician's work, but the company's management needs to up their game.

The Sub-Zero frig in our newly purchased home wasn't cooling correctly and was leaking periodically. Since the frig was already 17 years old (and 5 years past it's 12 year warranty), I was nervous we were going to be told we needed a new frig. Thankfully, we found out that the leaking was due to having the thermometer set too high for this particular brand of frig. The repair guy was here 20 minutes, showed me how to clean the filter myself every month or so, cleaned the pan under the freezer and showed me the frig coils that I'll need to replace in a year or two. I was relieved but also thankful that the repair guy was honest and didn't try to sell me a new (expensive) Sub Zero frig. He was very professional, very prompt and very helpful. It's good to know that he was willing to show me things I could do myself to lenghten the life of my appliance. He even told me how much I should be prepared to pay in the next couple of years should the cooling coil need replacement. Good for us so now we can budget if indeed it does need replacing. I was very happy and Iand quot;m a tough cookie when it comes to repair companies.

Primary repairman was hospitalized but recommended Jim's Appliance Repair. Left phone message in late afternoon; call returned next day. Appointment scheduled for following week. Repairman arrived within expected two hour arrival window. Repairman tested the functions and move the door up and down several times. On third trial, microwave worked. After repeated attempts, the microwave worked without a problem. Repairman offered to return within 30 days at no additional cost if the problem reoccurred and provided a verbal estimate of cost to repair. He suggested that if I were to remove some trim and a panel, I could significantly reduce the repair time and cost.
Description of Work: Sears Kenmore Elite over-the-range microwave oven stopped working, specifically the turntable did not turn and objects were not heated. Clock, light, timer, and vent worked.

I paid for the $101 initial service fee and the $1200 repair. Jim said that he repaired the issue with the fridge and the freezer promptly stopped running. I called to let him know that the freezer no longer worked and, he became very hostile (I was being very nice because I really needed him to come back and fix it). Jim repeatedly insisted that the new issue with the freezer was unrelated to his and quot;repairand quot; of the fridge. He did come back to and quot;fixand quot; the issue that he created with the freezer, but he acted like a petulant child during the repair and wouldn't look at me or talk to me - only his assistant would speak to me. I was upstairs changing my baby's diaper when he finished and he left without saying a word to me. Shortly thereafter, I discovered that the freezer worked, but now the fridge was broken again. I had an open house (I was selling my house) scheduled for the next day so I called immediately, several times over the course of the day to request that they make the time sensitive repair and they refused to return my calls. At that point, I called a whole host of appliance repair companies because I needed someone to come immediately. I got several referrals to the factory authorized SubZero repair company for Washington, DC. The SubZero authorized repair technician came immediately and fixed the fridge for $229. He explained that there were a variety of problems with Jim's repair: wires were not properly wielded, the refrigerant used appeared not to of the type required for a subzero, and it also appeared that Jim had drained all of the coolant from the freezer. I now understand that Jim is not an authorized SubZero repair person and he had no idea how to fix my refrigerator. Please don't let this happen to you!! If you have a Wolf of SubZero appliance (or another high end appliance) call SubZero or check their website to find your local factory authorized representative. Unfortunately not everyone who owns a and quot;SubZeroand quot; ballcap is authorized to repair SubZeros.
Description of Work: I had some frozen condensation on the inside of my SubZero refrigerator. Jim came out to assess the issue and told me that it was a $1200 repair and that if I did not get it repaired my fridge would stop running. He charged me $101for the service call to assess the situation.

1st Aware came to service my new Summit refrigerator. They were sent by the manufacturer to fix the freezer, which had never maintained freezing temperatures since delivery and installation. 1st Aware came out on 5/11/12. The technician determined that warm air was getting into the freezer and put putty on the back to seal it. I saw no difference in the temperatures after that was done. The ice would freeze, then melt, over and over. I called the cornpany back and they sent a technique back on 5/18. He called Summit, and they told him to install a new thermostat, which they had to order. I waited for a call that the thermostat was in. I never received one. After a week, I called 1st Aware to see what was going on. I gave them my invoice number (that one they had given me), and the custom service read out a completely different name and address than mine, and said they had on file that the problem was fixed. That was the beginning of the problems. I corrected them about the name, adds, and problem. They said they would call me back. They never did. I called the manufacturer and the retailer I bought the fridge from. They also told me they had on record that the problem was fixed. The manufacturer said they would call me back. They never did. When I called them again they said they didn't undstand what part was needed. The last time I spoke to 1st Aware, they told me that this was a warranty call, so they had no responsibility to follow up on it and make sure that the part was received and replaced. I guess it doesnt occur to them if you do an excellent job on warranty calls, they are likely to become paying customrs when they need repairs that aren't under warranty. If I need another repair in the future, I will not use this company. I finally called back both 1st Aware and Summit and got very angry with them. I had had this brand new refrigerator for almost a month without a working freezer. They finally sent the part, 1st Aware came out and replaced it, and the freezer STILL didn't work. I spoke to a supervisor at Summit, and they replaced the refrigerator. Thankfully, the new one worked perfectly. I still don't know exactly what happened and why it took so long to get the part replaced. 1st Aware blamed it on Summit, and Summit blamed it on 1st Aware. I prefer never to work with either of those companies again. They were both unresponsive and obviously a mix up occurred and they were unwilling to take responsibility for it.
Description of Work: 1st Aware came to service my new Summit refrigerator. They were sent by the manufacturer to fix the freezer, which had never maintained freezing temperatures since delivery and installation. They were unable to repair the refrigerator and a month later I had to get it replaced by the manufacturer.

The service provided by Jim's was fantastic. He provided a shorter window as to an estimated time of arrival than most repair companies I have dealt with in the past and he was on time. Jim's called with followups as to the status of the parts order and when they came in. The turn around time was suprisingly short. Jim's also explained what needed to be done as well as possible difficulties he could encounter and the effect on labor and time. The overall repair took less time than expected and the cost ended up being below what he quoted me. Jim's e-mailed me a coupon that I could use against this repair, which was nice.I'd definately use them again.
Description of Work: I called Jim's Appliances Repair after one of the hinges to my Viking Range snapped. I decided to replace both hinges. Jim's Appliance scheduled a date and window to come out to look at what needed to be done and what parts needed to be ordered. The parts came in rather quickly and Jim's was back within a week to replace the hinges.

I used him because I have Viking appliances and I didn't realize that a lot of the people don't do Viking. I was looking at all these things and I finally found Jim's and they did Viking. There was a freezer part that was missing and he was also going to try and tell me how much it was. It's just to roll out the freezer part so it doesn't do anything to the freezer but it probably should be on there. He was very nice and professional. The cost was their minimum. I just don’t how much normally it would cost. They were an hour late out of the two hour window of time. I think I will use them in the future because I have found out that not very many people do Viking.

Jim's Appliance was thorough and professional from the start. I called for an insurance estimate and was told that it would require a service call to assess the damage and parts needed. the call was scheduled and the technician arrived on time. He made the assessment and wrote up an estimate on the spot. The estimate seemed reasonable and to expedite matters, I asked him to order the parts and paid half at that time. Jim's called when the parts came in and we scheduled installation for the following week. Again, the technician arrived on time and did the work required, including cleanup, in a professional manner. I am very pleased with the whole experience.

I have used them for many years and I like them. I like this one particular man who came today a lot. Usually they can come the next day, sometimes even the same day. This time because of the holiday last week, I had a couple of days wait. It is the one that that I am not too found off is that sometimes the people who come, their English isn’t that good. However, overall they seem to know what they are doing. I have never had any other problem with the work that they have done.
