Fry Plumbing Heating & Air Conditioning

I called Fry and told them I was a sure that I had accumulated leakage on my basement floor from the heating/air conditioning system that Fry had installed for the prior owners of my house. They seemed oblivious to my diagnosis of the problem. First they insisted that the water was coming from a cracked slop sink, then they insisted the leak was from water seepage into the basement from outside. I then hired a waterproofing company for $10,000 to waterproof the basement and install sump pumps. When that company finished their work, water was accumulating in the same spot and the waterproofing company then insisted that the problem was what I had originally reported to Fry plumbing. I then once again insisted to Fry that it was a leak from the heating system and they finally corrected a clogged drainage plug issue in the HVAC system. The folks at Fry are very nice, but their lack of expertise, **** sure attitude and failure to listen to the customer cost me $10,000 that I might not have needed to spend - not to mention the additional cost of remodeling the basement after having a drainage trench excavated. I always liked these guys and they often do some good work - but I am compelled to write because I do not want other angles list members to have a similar experience. The quality of the folks this company hires is inconsistent. They also need to train their employees to listen to the customer.

I am a repeat customer - both HVAC & Plumbing. As in the past, everything was fixed/repaired to my satisfaction. They even went the extra mile to research the manufacturer of my kitchen faucet to insure that correct parts were ordered at no cost to me. I highly recommend their services.

The plumber showed up early and got right to work. He explained his proposed solution to the problem and executed it well. A great experience overall.

I contacted Fry around 8 am and they were able to get a people out to my house within 45 minutes. Mark was efficient and did a good job explaining what was going on with the system. Fix took about an hour, and everything seems to be working well now. I was very pleased with my contacts with both the front office and the technicians. I will definitely contact them again for additional (hopefully infrequent) AC needs.

I had someone at my house by 9am and the A/C was fixed by 9:30am. They had the needed parts on the truck and were able to fix the problem. They also explained in detail the work they did. They were very professional and I appreciate the quick response since I live not too far from their office.

I can't not say enough outstanding things about Fry Plumbing Heating and Air Conditioning. Completely and totally reasonable in price but what is more to brag about is the level of customer service. I live in Florida and was completely impacted by Irma. Fry came in and managed the entire job to completion quickly, expertly and interacted with my tenants during this crazy time for me. The Fry receptionist was very responsive and arranged for a plumber to come at a convenient date/time. The plumber called me in advance, was very nice, explained the problem, and promptly fixed it.

It went very well. I went out and bought the replacement faucet and had it here. The installer guy came when he was scheduled to and we had a set price and we knew we were going to pay and how long it was going to take and he met all of those requirements and now we have a nice good working faucet in the kitchen.

We've been very happy with Fry's services. After we moved into our new house, they helped us diagnose an error we were getting on our HVAC system. And they've been out to service our HVAC system multiple times. They've also been out to help us with some stubborn plumbing problems. Though the service people are different across the visits, they have always been responsive, courteous, and, most importantly, able to get the problem fixed quickly. We would definitely recommend their services.

Shane in the Frye team's office was very responsive and easy to work with over the phone regarding our HVAC issues. Within an hour that same day, he coordinated a knowledgeable technician (Mark) to call us and visit our home to provide additional comments, recommendations, and multiple equipment quotes. I found their team to be reliable and provide candor that helped us weigh the good and the bad in our situation.

I don't know how anyone gets a quote from this company. They only schedule estimate appointments 9-3:30 M-F, so I gave them a window of three days when I was off work. I did not hear from anyone.

These guys are top notch! Quick friendly service that is done right! Never a problem with them. They will be our plumbers for life!

There was a torrential storm that day, but they showed up at 8:00 a.m. as promised and (although I offered to move the installation date) proceeded to work all day, soaking wet and got it installed. We are VERY happy and feel that we got good value for the money. They were prompt, cleaned up everything and the new AC works great. We are entirely happy.

They cleaned out the sewer drain on my property and then coordinated with DC Water to get the rest of the drain cleared

Amazing. Both problems solved in less then 10 minutes. We called for another reason but as a result we over over the moon happy. We have had a water pressure issue that was identified and fixed by Fry plumbing less then 10 minutes. Not only fixing the current issue but fixing a long time existing issue. We have have had over 5 different plumbing companies out to try to figure this out, none found the water pressure valve placed in a standard MD install location. Being in DC there was no reason for that valve to be installed by the previous owner. Problem solved. Johnny also helped me over the phone for a water issue at our rental property saving us a lot of time and money. Honest and exceptional. This should be your plumbing company!

Fry Plumbing found that I in fact had two leaks, both the pipe out and the service line in and through much hard labor digging, removed both, with only a few hours of no water service (I had expected it might be weeks of no water) and although the weather really got in the way, they kept working for the time it took. In waiting for the DCRA to show up to inspect (and then failing to, which is typical of DCRA) some water outside the house got under a footing of one of the columns holding up my porch and detached from the porch. Fry took full ownership of the issue as the trench was open and the rain got in that way, and they built me a brand new column that is identical to the other three. Even though that was more stressful than I expected, at every turn they kept their work and did great work. Since I was already dealing with all that work I asked them to install two outdoor spigots, which they did and included internal shut offs for both, as well as using winter ready hardware, as an extra precaution. Although I hope I won't need to hire them again anytime soon, I'd go directly to them in a heartbeat. I had someone else offer me a quote and they wanted twice as much money and to rip open the front of my house, my kitchen and couldn't get started for a while.

Fry was able to complete the work quickly and efficiently.

Short Version I was able to schedule an appointment on the same day that I called and was pleased with the service provided. Things went downhill after that. The technician stated he would return the next day with a part and never did. A man who answered the phone at the office was extremely rude and lacked interpersonal skill. In reading another review ( 3/24/2016 – Grade F) it appears the company is aware of this rude man (he is a foreman with over 30+ years of experience) and excuses his behavior as “passion for the industry” which causes him to “sometimes take issues into a technical realm unfamiliar with the average home owner”. When I called because there was water on the floor again, I was told on three separate occasions someone would call me back and no one every called. I finally gave up on Fry Plumbing and found another plumber. More details The technician told me someone from the office would call to get my credit card number. No one called me. I called the office the next day to give them my credit card information. I wanted to confirm the invoice was made out to the proper entity. As I tried to explain this to the man on the phone he became very irate and shouted at me that he needed my credit card information numerous times. He also shouted that the technician should have taken the payment from me when the work was completed. I asked him what was his problem and why was he shouting at me. He then went into a long detailed explanation about the computer system, how it worked and why he needed my credit card information before he could make any changes to the billing information. I gave him the credit card and billing information. A few days later I was surprised to receive a bill from Fry Plumbing. I called the office and learned that even though I had provided my credit card information, the information was never used to pay the bill. The person said they would make sure the bill was paid. On, June 7th the basement floor was wet again. I honestly did not want to be bothered with Fry Plumbing because of the rude man at the office. However, I had a lot going on and did not want to spend time looking for another plumber so I called them. Once again the phone was answered by the rude man. I explained that the company had unclogged the drain in May and water was on the floor again. I also mentioned the technician said he would return with a drain plug but never did. The man of the phone indicated that the drain plug had nothing to do with the problem. He then launched into a very long and detailed explanation of clogged drains full of plumbing terminology and far more information than I needed to know. He also kept repeating that he could send someone out but he would have to charge for the service again because there was no guarantee for work to unclog a drain. I stated that I understood and asked when someone could come out. He launched into his detailed explanation about clogged drains again and kept repeated that I would be charged again if someone came out. I finally cut him off and stated that I understood I would be charged for the service and I just needed someone to come at look at the problem. I told him I was busy and just needed a “yes” or “no answer. He said he would call me back after he saw the schedule for the day. He never called me back. On June 8th, I called again. The person that answered the phone (not the rude man) said the sewer person just walked in and he would call me back. He never called me back. On June 9th, I called again. The phone was answered by the rude man. He stated he saw the work order on the board and someone would call me back. The technician (Mark) called me a few minutes later and said he was on his way to an emergency job in McLean and he would call me when he was done. He never called me back. I finally gave up on Fry Plumbing and found another plumber.

There was a BIG storm on the 5th of May, lightening, thunder, rain, wind, the whole thing. I expected Fry to call and change the date for the installation, in part because the unit is on the roof, accessible by ladder; it is a challenge in good weather, but in the rain it is daunting. Instead they showed up a little after 8:00 a.m. in rain slickers and proceeded to work until the unit was fully installed and functional.

Fry was professional all the way around. They sent two technicians who quickly diagnosed the problem of a broken thermostat and low refrigerant and then they had the tools and equipment on the truck so they could get it all done without scheduling a follow-up visit.

I had several people coming over on the weekend for a BBQ and needed someone quick to ensure the bathroom sink drained or I would have 30+ people unable to wash their hands. Frys was very responsive and quick, came the next day and got the sink draining prior to the weekend. I was happy to have it resolved so quickly.

These guys were amazing. Had me jump on FaceTime and helped me find my way around the unit to solve my simple problem. Incredible service!

We were very impressed with Fry to begin with, and the installation of our new boiler went smoothly. Or so we thought. In the aftermath of the installation, we had a major gas leak (in the middle of winter, of course, so we had to open all of the windows in our house). We called Fry to address the issue, and they very nicely came out to deal with it...except that they didn't actually fix it and we had to call their emergency services a second time. In the aftermath of all this we've been hit with a major gas bill from the utility company ($300 over our usual bill) and also discovered yet another leak from the installation, this time on the meter outside of the house so we didn't notice it until the weather improved and were were gardening in the vicinity of the meter. We're still in conversation with the utility company to see if they can reduce our gas bill, but when we called Fry to discuss the issue they told us that they have no record of failing to fix our leak on the first try (even though one of the owners was involved in the repair) and that none of our story makes sense because the house should have blown up. We're pretty confused by this type of response, given that we have the documentation of their visits as well as the paperwork from the gas company. We're honestly not sure what went wrong here, as everything seemed very professional and responsive at the time of the issue. Unfortunately it's turned into a pretty expensive and frustrating home repair that we thought would be straightforward.
