Brookland Plumbing

Brookland was a great plumbing company and I would hire them every time. They are far cheaper than the competition but do a very good job, are courteous and helpful, on time and quick. Raciel and his apprentice really were good plumbers. The only downside to Brookland is that 1) they don't really work outside normal business hours (9-5, M-F) so you have to take time off to meet them and 2) they focus almost exclusively on the actual plumbing labor but none of the other stuff that comes with it (e.g. tile repair). Given how expensive and incompetent plumbers are I think that still makes them worth it but I had to note it. Again, fantastic service, price and work from Brookland and I keep them on speed dial for all my plumbing needs.

This is the second time we had Brookland Plumbing come out in a week. The first time we had them fix a leaky toilet tank. They were very prompt and the cost was about $150. They recommended that the toilet needed replacing b/c of the other problems we were having with it not flushing well. They gave a recommendation for a toilet type. That week we went to Home Depot, purchased the toilet, and we called them to come back a week later to install it. Again the plumber was very prompt and they were able to send someone out with the same day we called. Although it was frustrating to have to pay the fee all over again when we just spent money fixing part of the old toilet, we were pleased with the punctuality and responsiveness to our phone call for service. The new toilet seems to be working fine and the we would definitely call them again for any other plumbing needs.

I use Brookland Plumbing a lot. I love them. My favorite thing about them is that they are small and the owner does the work himself with his two helpers. It is not a large company where you feel uncomfortable asking questions. I just think that they do excellent work and they are very knowledgeable about what they are doing. And if they don't do something then they will let you know. He is very clear about what he is going to do and what he is going to charge and estimating how long it will take. He is also very good about being on time.

I called about our broken and leaking disposal and spoke to Eileen, who was polite and professional and made arrangements for Louis to come the next day. He arrived promptly and completed all of the work professionally and with the necessary checks and was polite and a pleasure to deal with.

Raciel and his asst arrived punctually as always. The job should have been straightforward, replacing one sink with another (I had planned to do it myself, fortunately my husband talked me into calling the plumber), but nothing is ever uncomplicated in our tiny, hundred year-old house. The existing lines turned out to be in the wrong place for a simple replacement, so Raciel had to break into the wall and re-route the pipes coming out of the main. In the process, he replaced and upgraded a poorly installed joint. After all of that, he discovered that the new sink was just a bit too small for the faucet, which had been purchased separately. It took a lot of patience and ingenuity but in the end he made it work. The job took hours longer than anticipated and cut way into his schedule, but he stayed until everything was tested and running and the area was nicely cleaned up.

Overall, I was very pleased with the work.

Great experience! Rouan (sp?) arrived right on time. He did a great job fixing the leak and even showed me why I was having the problem, how to delay wear, and how to fix it myself! He also took the time to show me where all of my water shutoffs were. On top of that, he is very honest--I accidentally gave him more than I owed him, and when he realized it, came back to my house to return the extra! His wife, who answers the phones and schedules appointments, is also very nice and responsive. I highly recommend Brookland Plumbing!!!

I had good service and the plumber was on time and wasted no time getting the job done. I initially only needed to have the toilet snaked but since the plumber had no problem making the toilet run properly with the remaining amount of time I had the plumber install a kitchen faucet. The price was explained in detail before the plumber arrived and was one of the most reasonable prices in the metro DC area.

Brookland Plumbing was responsive and helpful from my first inquiry to scheduling to undertaking the repairs and explaining all to me. I found them professional and first rate.

Brookland service personnel came to our church and helped us think through the possible causes of extreme spikes in our water usage. They categorically ruled out a water leakage and gave us suggestions on how to protect against unauthorized usage of our outdoor faucets. After spending over 30 minutes giving us good advice, they didn't charge us a service fee. We won't hesitate to call on them for any other plumbing service!

I can honestly say that finding Brookland Plumbing has made my Angie's List membership worth every single penny. The toilet in our basement started to leak at the base. Assuming the leak was caused by an old wax ring, I accepted my Dad's offer to fix the toilet. Bad idea. After taking the toilet apart (seperate tank & bowl) he realized he could not turn the water off. I immiediately logged into Angie's list and called Brookland. They were there in an hour and had the problem resolved in no time! We then set up an appointment to have them return to install a new toilet. When they returned there was still water on the floor which unfortunately meant that there was a leak somewhere else. Not only did they install the new toilet, they were able to locate the leak and fix the newly discovered leak well!

From the scheduling to the work performed, Brookland Plumbing was very professional throughout. I was impressed that I was quoted an upfront fee and was actually charged that same fee days later after the work was finished. How often does that happen? When I was calling around for quotes other companies would give me "ballpark" figures and gawk at how strange my installation sounded. Other companies also wanted to charge an estimate fee. Pass. I couldn't be happier with the quality of work Brookland performed. I will definitely use them again.

I called Raciel at Brookland Plumbing for a shutt-off valve replacement. We had just purchased the house and the inspector noted that there was a slow leak from the shut-off valve of the main water line. Since we were having the house painted before we moved in, we wanted to have the valve fixed before painting. Raciel's wife Eilleen was wonderful to speak with on the phone and arranged for Raciel to come and look at the valve on short notice. When Raciel and his assistant arrived, they did not see a leak. Just to make sure, Raciel's assistant tightened the valve and checked several times for any moisture. When he did not find any, Raciel refused to replace the valve as he did not believe it needed to be done and refused to charge me for work that was not necessary. I greatly appreciate his honesty and would definitely call again in the future if we have any problems.

We had a leak in a pipe in our recently purchased home. I called Brookland Plumbing after seeing all of the reports on Angie's List. They didn't disappoint. Louis was able to come out the next day. He attempted to 'patch' the pipe (70 year old galvanized) in the hopes of avoiding a costly replacement. Unfortunately it didn't hold and we went ahead with replacing all of the pipes running from the basement up through the first floor to the second floor bathroom. (As we were knocking down a wall in the house it seemed best to replace all of it while the wall was open and the pipes being so old) He was very efficient, worked hard, and got the difficult job done in just 6 hours (while fixing a few other things along the way) He'd estimated anywhere between 5 to 8 hours depending on what we found along the way. I like the $125 an hour for labour and cost only for parts Thanks guys!

I called Brookland Plumbing on Mon afternoon. I spoke to Eileen and she was very open and honest about the cost as well as that unclogging drains is not something that Brookland guarantees, but any other plumbing service they do. I told her this was ok and that I understood with old pipes, the clogs may reappear. Unfortunately, her servicemen did not have an opening on the schedule till Thur afternoon. Since we had another shower in the house, we told her that this appt was fine. We had a 12:30-2:30 appt block. Luis did not show up until 3:30. Eileen did call to let us know that he was running late. Luis was very professional and offered to move things out of the way (and put them back exactly where they came from). He was able to unclog the drains in about 45 mins. After which, I asked him about some rust along the hot water pipe into the tub. I thought it was a leak, but Luis explained that this was due to the fact that the pipe was galvanized vs brass. He said that he could change it out, but there wasnt a leak, so he felt that changing it was not necessary. I was surprised by both his honesty and professionalism. I would strongly recommend Brookland to anyone who has plumbing issues.

I found Raciel on Angie's List and it was the best thing I've done since buying my home. He is extremely quick, reliable and trustworthy. I often leave him at my home in the morning and he'll lock up for me when he's done. He doesn't try to offer you more work then you need. In fact, he usually talks me down from unnecessary work that I've gotten into my head must be done in lieu of more effective, less expensive alternatives. Raciel goes the extra mile to make sure to satisfy and he is more than fair on pricing. He only charges for the time spent actually working (not for trips to the hardware store for supplies) and the retail price of any supplies he uses (no mark ups, providing receipts). I wish more contractors were like him.

Racael did a great job considering the variety of issues we experieced along the way. They worked non-stop without any nonsense. The charges were definitely reasonable. I would definitely work with them again.

About six months ago, the guys installed a shower kit for my clawfoot tub. A month ago, the seal busted that connects the shower part to the rest of the faucet. I called them, and they came out quickly to fix it (also fixed an outdoor hose attachment for no extra charge since we were still within the hour). That fix only lasted a couple of weeks, so they came out again to fix it and didn't charge me for the hour since it was supposed to be fixed already. This weekend the same thing happened. Being frustrated that my shower kept exploding with shampoo in my eyes, I left a long voice mail expressing my frustration, and that it needed to be fixed permanently. I thought it was strange that the shower kept breaking, and all of the other work they've done for me was so good, so I called the manufacturer to see if there was something wrong with the product. The operator said they've been getting calls about this, and it's a certain piece that backs up the water and builds too much pressure. After hanging up the phone, I find that Luis is at my door, prepared to take the shower apart piece by piece to figure out what is going on. Fortunately, I told him about my conversation with the manufacturer, he repaired the malfunctioning part, and fingers crossed that the shower will last a long time now that the mystery is (hopefully) solved. I wanted to update because they could have made things a lot worse by being unresponsive or overly defensive about their work. Instead, they came to my house first thing in the morning prepared to figure out what was wrong even though they knew it was probably something having to do with the shower itself and not the quality of their work. So I felt the need to reiterate that these guys are great. Plus, now that they have someone answering the phones full time, you can get an appointment even faster than before (not that it was previously a problem).

We just moved into a 95 year old rowhouse in NW DC that needs a lot of work. Eileen who answers the phone and sets up the appointments and Luis who did the work were so kind. Luis was punctual and did excellent work. He was only suppose to fix the toilet but also fixed the stuck whirlpool button while waiting for the epoxy to dry. Will definitely use them again. Worth their weight in gold.

Luis discovered the source of our leaks in our kitchen. One was the dishwasher which they had warned us before they came out if it turned out to be the dishwasher itself he wouldn't be able to repair it, but simply identifying the source was a huge help to us. He also let us know that our kitchen sink sprayer was leaking, he didn't have the part on hand, but it was something I had replaced before and was happy to do myself. Since there was more time left in the hour minimum, he asked if there was anything else we'd like him to look at - something I very much appreciated, as I remembered that our toilet had been slowly leaking and we'd meant to have it looked at. He identified the source of the problem (disintegrated washers around the bolts in the bottom of the tank gave me a time estimate and I approved. He identified and fixed two other issues with the toilet in the process. He did great work, was very helpful, professional and courteous. I would definitely hire them again. I love their pricing model - $125 /hr and just their cost for parts - no mark up.

This company came out and spent about a half hour looking at the job in question. We discussed all the things needed. He left with the understanding that he would get back in contact with me in a few days with an estimate. He never called back so I called them. I talked to his wife on the phone and she said that they decided not to take the job. When I asked why they didn't call me to let me know. She said that since I didn't pay anything for the estimate they didn't need to call me and let me know. I felt that was very rude and unprofessional. It was a very unpleasant experience.

I was told the exact cost of the work to be completed when I called to make the appointment. There would only be extra charges for any extra materials needed. I supplied the new garbage disposal, so there were no extra fees attached. I paid the exact price quoted over the phone.

Since no one at Brookland thought enough of my call to return it, (I waited 4 days), I called Steven's Plumbing which was also recommended on Angie's List and got a prompt, personal return call. The work was done when promised and the price was reasonable. I will use Stevens,again
