My mistake for not asking for upfront pricing but was referred to by a reputable Baldwin dealer, and had no idea that amount could be in realm of possibility for a simple repair. I asked what was issue with locks and technician stated they just “needed a little TLC” then sent me invoice demanding immediate payment. Total swindler.

+ -1 moreTotally exceeded expectations! We have a jack and jill bathroom where one door has the original glass handle door knob with a center push button for privacy. The door knob set on the other door had been replaced with a steel set long ago by former owners. As I searched for a match to the original set, I learned that these are quite rare, because they were only made for a short period of time around 1930. However, I did find a match from a dealer in Illinois. The dealer informed me in advance that the the push button did not work, and I was OK with that, but it turned out that the whole set was inoperable. So, I visited the Brass Knob, an antique dealer in DC, for advice. They referred me to Bobby, at Acme Safe and Lock. I described the situation to Bobby over the phone and he said he could fix it for $70.00 and promised a 2 day turn around. I dropped the set off at his residence in Bowie, MD on a Friday and he had it done the very next Monday. He let me know that I could meet him at a job site in Rosslyn, VA to pick it up and pay for it, which I did. Not only did he make the set functional, he also repaired the push button lock and provided a key, which I did not expect! The icing on the cake came when I arrived home and found that the key also works the other bathroom door. Prompt, courteous service at a fair price. Can't ask for more than that.
