Paradise Construction did a great job. Tim is prompt, knowledgeable and very professional. They did an excellent job on the work and honestly exceeded my expectations. I would definitely hired again and as importantly would highly recommend without reservations.

EXCELLENT!!! Based on other reviews, I reached out to Paradise to troubleshoot an issue with flickering lights. I was shocked when Tim offered to troubleshoot the issue for free, despite estimating it could take 1.5-2 hours. Tim was prompt (even called to let me know he was running a few minutes late), wore a mask (COVID), was courteous, and determined the issue really quickly. He entertained answering all of my electrical questions, came up with the best path forward to resolving the issue, and provided a very reasonable quote for repairs. I will definitely be having him complete the recommended repairs! It is hard to find tradespeople like Tim in DC; available, knowledgeable, friendly, and, most importantly, a professional who takes pride in his work. If you have a need for an electrician, you must call Paradise Construction.

I had done a map of all the electrical outlets and which ones needed to be upgraded to three prong. We walked through all areas of the house. They provided me with a proposal to repair and upgrade all the deficiencies. It seemed that I would have to re-wire the whole house before it would make sense to make any other repairs, so I demurred. Still not done. Some day. They were very conscientious and attentive, and had a good professional presentation on site, with good follow-up. In one instance they critiqued the work of another contractor who had recently done some electrical work associated with a remodeling job. I called out the original contractor, and it turned out the original contractor's work was correct, which was slightly embarrassing to me.

This is the second time we have used Paradise Construction and we are happy once again. Tim came out to the house to assess the work we needed done, got back to us with an estimate quickly, and was able to begin the work shortly after. We were very happy with the level of communication- we were always able to reach him and he answered all of our questions thoroughly. He did a great job replacing our outlets and upgrading our electrical system. His prices are great and he and his crew do good work. We would absolutely hire him again for any electrical need.

The big deal for 69 dollars for whole house electrical inspection from Paradise Construction turned out to be a 'B' on the grading scale. I guess I was expecting more in the inspection. It was a while for them to come for the service after the big deal service but it was because of me, it took me a while to arrange for it and then they came out. They responded quickly. There were no additional charges on top of the 69 dollars. I guess I was expecting a little more on the quality. They reponded quickly. Maybe I would consider using them again in the future.
Description of Work: It was just an electrical inspection and they looked out some of the outlets I pointed out and they looked at the circuit breaker and that was about it. There were a couple of recommendations.

First, Tim showed up for an initial inspection. Then, with the assistance of a coworker completed the heavy-up a few days later. After that, followed up with the DC heavy-up inspection. Lucky for me, Pepco actually changed the service to 200A within a week. Cost breakdown: 1499 (heavy up Angie's list coupon), 250 permit fee.

It went okay. They came and did the required work. They finished under the amount of time, and didn’t offer credit for the additional hour. I purchased a "Big Deal" for a ceiling fan installation. I was pleased when Tim Eddings was able to schedule an appointment with me within a few days of my call. Our appointment was for 2:00 PM, but when he hadn't showed or called by 2:45, I called him. He said that he had double-booked the time slot, and that he would arrive in about 45 minutes. He showed up around 3:45, nearly 2 hours after our original appointment time. No apology. Upon examining the location for the new fan installation, he commented that the painters who had removed the old fan had taken away some sort of crucial part that was necessary for installation. He managed to work around this problem, though it didn't exactly inspire confidence that he didn't travel with parts in case this happened. I had to rummage through my tool box for some screws for him to use. He finally got the fan installed -- hope it stays in place!

When I spoke to Tim about the work I wanted done with their Big Deal, 2 ceiling fans installed, he said he would be able to complete that work within the 2 hour time frame. The story changed once he arrived at my house, which he was 22 minutes late to. Tim stated taht because there was no electrical box in the second room I wanted a fan in he would need an additional 2 hours to complete the work and an additional $340. This was very upsetting because he could have easily asked me about any electrical boxes when we spoke over the phone and he could have given me an up front estimate of the cost. I asked if he would be willing to work with me on the price since I had already purchased his Big Deal and he told me that he "couldn't work for free" and would not budge. At that point we ended our appointment and no work was performed. I am very disapointed that this was such a highly rated service provider who would behave so unprofessionally.

I spoke to the client several times because he was ill and the coupon was running out and i wanted him to get the best deal for his money when we spoke i asked him if there were connections or a light in the location before i came when i got there that was not the case and i told him that i could do one for him but that would use his time up and he would have to pay for the second one he insisted on getting it for free and i told him no.

Our experience with Tmothy and Paradise Construction could not have been better. We bought a foreclosed property that had been a rental for over a decade. It's fair to say there was a lot of deferred maintenance and the fixtures screamed 1995. We hired Tmothy to help us update and to make sure our electrical systems were safe. Tmothy replaced several ceiling fans and light fixtures inside the house, removed the track lighting and installed pot lights in our bedroom and bathroom, upgraded our porch lighting, replaced all the bathroom fans, re-wired the TV cable so the darn thing wasn't running across the bedroom wall, upgraded our hardwired fire alarms, and checked our outlets. In one instance, Tmothy was even able to fix a buzzing (!) light fixture in a shower that several other electricians had tried and failed to fix. In terms of his work style, Tmothy was unerringly professional and punctual. He was eager to accommodate our needs and even stayed late (twice) so I wouldn't have to take additional time off work.
Description of Work: Paradise Construction upgraded, replaced, and repaired over a dozen items in our home - including everything from checking dead outlets to installing recessed lighting to rewiring the TV cable. We had a looooong list of changes.

4/2014I initially bought a deal for $119 for 2 hrs. of work. I spoke to the electrician over the phone to try and determine which of my electrical projects he could undertake and get done in 2 hrs. He decided to come by and see what projects I needed done. He said that he works very fast and should be able to get the undercabinet lights and an over-the-sink light installed in 2 hrs--both wired with their own wall switch. I then asked how much extra he would charge to put in 2 electrical plugs, 4 can lights and 2 wall scounces in by bedroom. He told me it would cost $435 but I would have to buy the material. I told him okay but 2 or 3 days before the work was to be done, I told him that because of the expense of the material in addition to what I would have to pay him, I no longer wanted to have the can lights or the light scounces put in my bedroom and would he give me a price for installing two wall outlets in my bedroom for a TV I wanted mounted on the wall. He said he would talk to me about it when he got there to do the work. Well my inlaws from Pennsylvania decided to drop in on us early and I was preoccupied with them when the electrician and his helper came. He came and they worked a little while and then ran to HomeDepot and got a few things. They were gone for over an hour and HomeDepot is only 4 miles from my house. I guess they got something to eat as well. Anyway, they took several hours finishing everything and did not leave until around midnight. I inspected the work and found one of the outlets in the bedroom was way too high up on the wall even after I had explained where the TV was suppose to go. Also, he cut three large round holes in my kitchen walls twith the cutter he used to install the 6" can light over my sink and said I would have to repatch it myself. He then asked me for $435 and said that he had done $1000 worth of work. I told him no because I had talked to him about that already earlier that week. He then asked for $335. I paid him but felt he did not do a professional job. He did come back the next week to touch up a couple minor things but I must say, overall, I was not that pleased.

Hired Timothy to diagnose electrical problems. He said it needed to be rewired and would do it in 7 days. He was very friendly and professional and on-time initially. Apparently he thought the walls were dry wall, but they are plaster (which takes a lot more work). He kept telling me he'd finish in a another day or so. Then it was another three days. After 22 days, the job still wasn't finished. At that point, Timothy wasn't always responding to texts or calls. He has not showing up on time (for two weeks - except once he was on time), and continually said 9 a.m, then showed up whenever he felt like it (noon, 3 pm, not at all). He wasn't listening to my concerns, didn't care about my schedule or me being inconvenienced, and told me whatever he thought I wanted to hear. He originally promised to move my furniture out of each room, do that room, clean it and then move my furniture back. Then after 21 days, he said I'd have to pay him extra to move the furniture back. He damaged two pieces of brand new furniture moving it out of the rooms, and lost a part to my new window ac unit, and a cover to an old-fashioned thermostat. After all the new wiring was installed and the walls closed, Tim plugged a small fan of mine into one of the new kitchen GFI outlets. He left it plugged in overnight (off). Around 10 pm, I smelled something burning and traced the smell to the small fan -- the motor was so hot I couldn't touch it (and it's made of plastic!). I unplugged it and turned the GFI off. I was not able to turn the breaker off because Tim never labeled the breakers on the new panel. The next morning I told him that he almost set the house on fire, and his only response was, "oh yeah, I thought there was something wrong with that outlet." If so, why did he leave the fan plugged in? Why didn't he turn off the GFI? Why didn't he flip the breaker for that room? He had no remorse or concern, and took no responsibility for the fact that he almost burnt the house down (at night when we're all in it, and sleeping). I also noticed that a light at the bottom of the stairs was flickering (using an old-fashioned bulb, not the new ones), and that an outlet in the living room still wasn't working, and that my newly installed ceiling fan was wobbling and noisy. At this point, I began to question the quality of his work. He said the ceiling fan was wobbling because the plaster repair was taking time to dry (it had been days) and that the fan required a stabilizer. [I later called the manufacturer and they said that fan does not use a stabilizer and that the electrician didn't know what he was talking about.] The next day we met with Tim and his master electrician (who had only been on-site once at the beginning of the job for 20 minutes and once at the end of the job for 20 minutes -- Tim is NOT a master electrician). Tim yelled at me and refused to take any responsibility for the problems with his work, his lack of professionalism, the extensive delays, etc. We hired another master electrician to look at the work to ensure it was correct. He was appalled at the work, specifically with the newly installed box and circuits in the basement. He said the box had at least four code violations, including that it wasn't grounded and that there was an exposed aluminum wire in it. This consulting electrician did a service load calculation (which Tim never did and should have done) and learned that we didn't need a larger box in the first place! In addition, he said the new circuits were not installed properly. There were many other issues discovered, to include the fact that Tim had not reconnected the boiler to the electrical panel (I discovered this when it got cold and I had no heat). The consulting electrician also asked to see the permit that Tim pulled....big surprise....there was no permit pulled. He did further investigation and learned that Tim and his company are not licensed as a business in Montgomery County, MD, nor is his company's master electrician licensed in this county. So Tim's company had no authority to do business or to work on electric in this county. (Originally, he had assured me he had a master electrician's license -- and he says that here on Angie's List too.) In Feb, 2015, yet another master electrician came to assess the work Tim did. This is a master electrician with 30 years of experience, with current business and master electrician licenses. He said Tim used 15 amp wiring for 20 amp circuits (a mismatch), left some of the old wiring connected (so didn't actually do a complete rewire as estimated), left wiring hanging in the rafters, didn't set up the GFI circuits properly, and more. The new master electrician said he's not sure if the county inspector will pass the rewiring job -- and he may need to reopen all the walls to correct it (if the inspector won't pass it)! Talk about a nightmare!!! Save yourself a lot of grief and headaches. Find someone who can show you their master electrician license for your county, and their business license for your county. Make sure they pull a permit. And only hire the actual master electrician him/herself, not a company that "has a master electrician on staff". Finally, get the timeline in writing and include a financial penalty for every day that they go past the deadline. In his response to my review, Tim says that this job will be going to court and that I was intent on getting free services. The latter part is not true. I was happy to pay his estimated amount for the work to be done properly. The part about going to court was true. He took me to court. I took off work for 2.5 days to prepare my documentation and show up in court (a half-day or more experience), only to have Tim NOT EVEN SHOW UP! The judge dismissed the case with prejudice (meaning Tim can't re-sue), but that same day (the day of court, after he didn't show up) Tim filed a motion to be allowed to sue me again! The matter is still pending. Seriously, save yourself a lot of hassle. Use someone else!
Description of Work: Tim assessed the electrical problems I was having, recommended rewiring with new wire, box and circuits (it's a 100 year old house with old wiring).

A rough start but ended extremely well and earned our loyalty for future business. We were initially scheduled for the previous Tuesday. Tim called just before the scheduled appointment time to say he would be running late because of another project having unforeseen issues. An hour later, he called to cancel the appointment because the project had become too involved. The following week, he arrived a little late after a confirmation call, for which he apologized profusely. Upon inspection of our bedroom, Tim determined that we would need an electric box that we did not have, requiring a trip to the store to buy one-- for which he did not charge us, to make up for the rescheduling and the lateness. Also, our house had a whole bunch of wiring issues-- he was at our house for nearly 3 hours, and yet still stuck to the Big Deal price. I only provide the B in punctuality to be completely factual-- I would provide an A+ in professionalism and quality if I could, as the fan looks gorgeous, feels fantastic, and Tim did his best to set everything completely right. Will definitely be considering him and Paradise again for our century old house's various electrical needs!

We scheduled the service call for 11am. A little before 11 they called to let me know that the current job was running late so they wouldn't make it on time. We rescheduled to 7:30 that same night. Tim and Dave arrived on time and promptly went to work. They tackled the problem effectively and left us with a working ceiling fan and light. Both were professional and polite throughout. We will definitely use them again.
