Siding and trim replacement
Description of Work: Poor finish carpenter! Noah replaced some wood siding and trim on our 55 year old house. He got the easy stuff right, but in more difficult places left things crooked and messy. He also didn’t bring enough material to install the trim in continuous pieces, and installed fairly short pieces with seams in the middle. When I complained about the results, he blamed it in the fact that it was an old house, and offered to come back and caulk over some spots.

Response from Ark Home Improvement
it is unfortunate that this review was made to make a point of unsatisfactory workmanship. As most things in life and business i will make the best of it:). In my opinion, the homeowners reviewing me are not even the homeowners. the homeowner is their Mom. When the reviewer says "he" i believe it is a personal issue, not a professional one. I had one of my Carpenters installing on this project with me just to clarify. i was contacted by the husband/son we met after i sent him an estimate. we discussed the project, details and goals. The husband added on additional items and i said no problem with including extra trim and roofing repairs. When we showed up and started with the project i met the sister and later in the day the wife. the wife asked me several questions which i answered and explained what we were doing for them.... * quality materials, proper install and making it look great.* we installed the new siding, trim for the bump out dormers as agreed upon. We performed additional work, extra composite trim installed, fixed the roofing shingles on both sides of the house that were falling off as a courtesy to the customer. We wrapped up the job as discussed and reviewed. I recieved an email from the husband the next day stating he saw the project and had some issues, a unlevel board and two trim boards that had a seam in it. very minor stuff. i called him and discussed what he mentioned, i explained what we did and why there was an underlying issue with the levelness of the flashing on both the dormers( 70 year old house), hence why we installed the boards that way. i asked if we could meet and review everything, i said I wanted him to be happy so whatever it takes to do so. i mentioned that i would like to receive payment for the work as well. i talked to him for 30 minutes, he then said he didn't want to meet or for me to do anything else to make him happy. he stated that he would mail the final payment. I mentioned that if you do not want give me the opportunity to make you feel good about the project what do you expect from me a discount? Interesting facts- the trim in question is completely straight and sealed, the trim is 20 feet high and you need a zoom lens or elevator to see it. it is made of composite material and being painted (as stated by the homeowners). this is typical of the construction industry, homeowners give reviews for revenge becuse of their lack of understanding or respect for the trades. At Ark home improvement we step up to the plate with every customer, project and situation. thank you for your consideration and reading our message response:))

Description of Work: Noah removed all the gutter guards from the north side of my house; cleaned out all the vegetation that was growing in there and flushed the gutters. He also cleaned all the front gutters out, then power washed the roof, gutters, trim and skylights. It looks great, it was done neatly, quickly and for the price he quoted. I asked him what the condition of my roof was and he said 'pristine, doesn't need any repairs'. That's an honest contractor! I'll be having Noah back to do more work :-)

Description of Work: Thought it was a great offer. Called the provider numerous times with no response. In the meantime, discovered a leak in the roof and we decided to have the rrof and gutters replaced. Never thought of it again until Angies started asking for a review. Called the provider again, and he said he just couldnt honor the price and couldnt do the job. I contacted Angies List for a refund, twice. Never got a response. Finally called, and hopefully this will do the trick.

Dear Member, I feel you are being unfair with this review. I believe you are having a coustomer srevice issue with angies list pre-paid services and taking it out on my company. I remember speaking with you and informing you that our special was no longer running.YOU WAITED OVER A YEAR TO SCHEDULE TO SERVICE. I offered you a deep discout to match close to that offer. I give great customer service, quality workmanship and warranties behind all of our projects. If you consider my business rating based on your experience I apologize in advance. It seems you are unfair in your stance to F rate my company because of your desire to get your Low price that expired ( in the terms you agreed upon). You can use this review to deliver payback for your dissatisfaction and of your lack of concern for the terms of service. It unfortunate that this review based system is abused in this way. You cannot win them all but at ARK home improvement we strive to keep customers satisfied. Feel free to check out all of the real reviews of customers WE ACTUALLY DID WORK FOR. Thanks Noah Cook

No work was done.
Description of Work: No services performed. He was supposed to meet me at my house for an estimate for exterior painting. The morning he was supposed to meet me he called and said he was stuck at a job site and couldn't make it that day but he would be there first thing the next morning, which was a Saturday at 730 a.m. He never showed up. I called him twice and left one message but never heard from him again. I figured I'd give him the benefit of the doubt if he was real busy to at least call me and say he's not interested or too busy but here it is weeks later and I haven't heard from him. I found him on angies list so maybe this isn't the norm for him.

See above for details.
Description of Work: Please note that the price was from an Angie's special. I believe the normal price would have been around $300-350 plus paint. Our living room walls needed painting. The surface was good, but the paint was old and looked it. Noah and his employee Chris, moved the furniture out of the way. They patched various nail holes well and then applied a base coat, second coat and over the patches a third coat. The painting was well done. I had Noah price a couple of other rooms while he was here and will contact him when I am ready to have those done. I did seek out his opinion on what brand of paint to buy. He came on time as promised. There were no unpleasant surprises

I was very pleased. My gutters were so full, that I was getting water in my basement. I had mentioned this to him, and I was wondering if I needed a new drain spout. He told me to just wait to see how everything would work with just cleaning the gutters, and it has worked out. I am going to use him again in the future. I did not know that they were coming on the day that they came.

Noah confirmed the appointment in advance, showed up right on time, and was very courteous and professional. He and his worker (Chris?) went right to work and worked hard. He gave me a lot of good information on lead-safety compliance; he definitely knows his stuff. The work was completed in a reasonable length of time and I was very pleased with the results. I was also pleased that the work came to a little less than the original estimate.
Description of Work: A door needed to be replaced on the first floor, both the first and third floor were spot-painted to keep with lead-safe standards (third floor had a lot of spots that needed attention), and treads were added to 3 flights of stairs.

Noah came over to gave an estimate, and we went over in detail what needed to be done. He handed me a written estimate and started work a few days later. His crew and he worked diligently for four days and left me a clean apartment that rented within four days of it being painted. Noah even went around doing detailed touch-ups to make sure everything looked perfect.
Description of Work: ARK home improvement painted the entire first floor apartment in my rental unit, patched up a few holes in the walls and floor, and wallpapered the cracked ceilings in a few rooms of the apartment.

Noah at Ark Home Improvement was extremely professional, prompt and fast. The interior prime and paint project looks great.! We are thrilled with the results and were more than satisfied with the cost. On two previous occasions we hired Ark Home Improvement to replace roofs on garage and carriage house, build a barn and a deck. We would highly recommend Noah and his crew at Ark Home Improvement......... and have!!
Description of Work: My husband and I had the unfortunate experience of what is known as a "puff back" in a rental cottage. The entire interior was covered in an oily soot, after a furnace malfunction, yuck!! We found it impossible to clean. After calling a catastrophic clean up company and getting an astronomical estimate, we called Ark Home Improvement. Noah (owner) was very forthcoming with suggestions covering various solutions and costs. After applying an oil base primer throughout followed by a satin paint (semi on window casings) he completed the entire project in a little over a day. Ark Home Improvement solved our problem for half the cost of the catastrophic clean up company's estimate! Yippie!!!

The repainting went well. Unfortunately the installation of the flooring did not go well from the start. We bought the laminate floor from a home supply store and had ARK install it for us. They had to take up an old carpeting first. But they left the carpet padding glued to the cement floor! They also did NOT install a vapor barrier over the cement floor, which is the FIRST instruction in the laminate flooring package! Ask anyone! Then while installing the flooring, they DID NOT leave expansion areas around the edges (see pictures). As you can imagine, after a few months the floor started to buckle. I called Noah, who came over and immediately told me that I was to blame for the buckling. He told me that he left enough room and that I must have washed the floor with water. He insisted that I contact the manufacturer of the laminate flooring about the problem. He said that he would write me a letter stating that it was not his fault and get back to me, which he never did. As the issue has never been resolved, I have now had to rip up the flooring and install carpeting. After removing the laminate flooring I discovered the above problems! I have had many people come to look at the basement to talk to me about installation of the carpet, and ALL of them have told me that the laminate flooring was installed wrong.
Description of Work: Repainted basement. Installed laminate flooring in basement.

I am responding to your fictitious report on my company and my performance as a contractor. I never heard of or from (member) until around a year after I completed the project for his MOTHER IN LAW. I did the work for his MOTHER IN LAW on time, within budget, threw in some additional labor for no additional cost. There were no issues with the painting/carpentry/flooring until I received a phone call from (member) about 14 months later. He explained he moved into the house recently ( where no one was living at the time ) and noticed the flooring had buckled in an area in the middle of the basement floor ( estimated size of the buckle was about 6 feet long). This was the first I heard of any issues with the work we had performed for his MOTHER IN LAW. I made a time to meet with Marc. I looked at the problem area, accessed the issues and found out nobody was living in the house for the past winter, no heat or moisture control maintained. I explained my opinion that the problem with the floor was from being neglected and not from a careless installation. The customer I did the work for (the Mother IN LAW) was aware of the factors of installing a floating floor in a basement and said " I am selling soon " and was not concerned with the longterm quality of the flooring. That being said I warrantied the project for a year on my labor, The factory warranty was for the materials. I explained this to (member), He was insisting that I fix the problems with the flooring, I explained he would have to go through the factory warranty to get the flooring paid for and fixed, not my company to fix and pay for it. I made every attempt to solve this problem with (member) even though I never did the work for him, Had a warranty with him or made any other contractual obligation with him. I strive to do good business with all customers past, present and future. I have built a reputation on being a high quality contractor and have the records to prove it with my BBB, website, clients, family and friends. Yours Truly, Noah Cook
