Description of Work: HARP found that our vintage air conditioning system had quit on us because mice had chewed through the wiring. They fixed it for a reasonable price and advised us how to deter mice in the future by putting mothballs in a particular place in the unit outdoors.

Description of Work: We had an excellent experience with Harp. They replaced our old furnace with a new high-efficiency gas boiler furnace for our 2500 sq. ft., 3-zone house. They did an excellent job--even the building inspector was impressed! We have also had them back to do the annual maintenance on the furnace--they are always on-time, neat, and efficient.

Description of Work: Replaced gas valve on furnace. We have a service contract with HARP. They came out promptly to evaluate the issue, determined part and quoted price. They were back next morning to install. The service technician Paul O. was pet-friendly, professional and confident in his diagnosis of the problem. HARP has not let us down since we contracted with them Winter 2012.

Description of Work: Technician was unable to replicate the sounds we hear during colder weather from the heating system so he decided to clean the furnace instead. One of the two sounds we heard continues; we will be waiting to see if the other sound continues.

Description of Work: Replaced a gasket. Though I told them what the problem was, I am charged over $80 to have HARP agree with me. No this charge is not included in the fee to repair it is in addition to that (every time no exception). The time of service and the cost are estimates only since it was so long ago.

Response from HARP Home Services LLC
I'm sorry you weren't happy about our pricing. We explained to you up front at the time you called the office that there would be a $98 diagnostic fee. We do not charge for traveling from one place to the next or for fuel charges or anything like that. It is a flat rate, up front price that you were told about and you agreed to it. That's gets us to your home and includes figuring out what is wrong. Your diagnosis may very well have been right but the simple fact is that we had to pay someone to drive to Portland and this costs us money in labor and gas (overhead costs). I understand that you didn't like the price but again, we told you about it Up Front and we did get out the same day you called us to come take care of your issue (not exactly sure how you would grade getting there the same day you called as a B, but so be it). Let me break it down for you: It took our tech 45 minutes to drive to Portland. If we had charged time and material, that travel time alone would have cost you $105 just to have us drive there. Then add on the 1.75 hours in labor for another $245. That would have cost you $350 and I have not included a gas charge or a truck charge or any materials that may have been used. You paid $183. We think that’s a pretty good deal. It is for that reason that we charge the Up Front diagnostic fee. We can still pay our overhead, make a profit so we can stay in business and try not to make it too expensive for our customers.

Description of Work: Based on Angie's ratings I called for a tuneup of my gas furnace and check on my electrostatic air cleaner. When they called back they said it would be considered as two service calls with two separate fees ( repairs would be obviously additional). I said no thanks - very disappointing that they would try to charge twice!

Hi There [removed member name], I think there may have been a misunderstanding as checking the air cleaner and replacing the air filter is part of maintenance (there is an extra charge for the filter). However if the air cleaner isn't working and the technician has to spend a fair amount of time figuring out whats wrong, there COULD be an additional diagnostic fee. The girl you spoke with on the phone is new to our company and perhaps she misunderstood what you were looking for? I apologize for any miscommunication.
