Description of Work: I claimed a deal on here for air conditioner and furnace tune up for $120 I got a redemption code and all but after being put on hold the first time I called and then hung up on, when I called Harp the second time they said they did not have the deal.. I’ll be calling other places and not using Angieslist at all. Thought I’d try it but I’ll stick to good old research.

I'm getting tired of the lousy contractors I find on Angie's List. I cannot for the life of me find a contractor that can simply get a quote or estimate back to me at all, let alone in a timely manner. The rep from Harp came to my house and evaluated my boiler which I would've like to have started to replace ASAP. He leaves promising to contact me with boiler upgrade selection & prices and I never hear back from him again. No email, no phone call This is the 3rd or 4th contractor I have had such issues with. W**!? I refuse to beg to pay people money! Updated 7/1/11 Mr. Moriarty, You are correct in the punctuality grade and I have updated it accordingly (note that only categories applicable we graded). I also upgraded professionalism since John was amiable and polite. Please understand that there were 2 parts of this job. The first being to drain the boiler so that mitigation can proceed. That means other contracts were being held up for a quotation on what was described as a quick job. This was not simply a heat related issue. 2-3 weeks was not taken as turn-around for quotation, but expected as time-to-start. Perhaps some miscommunication was involved, I had understood that the quotation was spreadsheet based and assumed quickly turned around. I chose what was the highest rated contractor in the area available on Angies list as the only HVAC contractor quoted with the expectation that it would be reasonably well handled and quickly dealt with. My last remaining concern is that the only response I've ever received is in this review. Regards
Description of Work: Job was to disconnect an old asbestos laden boiler so an asbestos mitigation contractor can come in a take out the boiler along with the rest of the issues in the basement. After mitigation, the boiler would be replaced with a new one. Simple right?

We are very sorry to hear you are not happy with our company. As you can see we have an A rating and have maintained that rating for the past 2 years. We strive to take care of all our customers and provide outstanding customer service on a daily basis. As you probably know, we are in the thick of the air conditioning season and we have been extremely busy, as a lot of other companies are this time of year. I see that we were out at your home on 06/17/2011, which was 6 business days ago. I'm not sure if there was a miscommunication between you and John and perhaps he didn't understand that you wanted this work done as soon as possible? I will tell you that under normal circumstances we can turn a quote around in a couple of days but during a busy a/c season as this one has turned out to be, it is not uncommon for us to get our quotes out in a week or more. This, however, is not the norm and I apologize that you feel we ignored you. I can assure that this is not the case as we do not make it a standard business practice to go to someone's house for FREE and then never get back to the them. Our goal is to get you the quote and hopefully your business. We try to prioritize as best we can based on need, equipment availibilty and many other factors that come into play. I have spoken with John regarding this and he said that he told you on the day of the heating estimate that it would be a good 2-3 weeks before you got your quote due to the fact that we were in the throes of putting out many a/c related fires and that you responded "That long?" and mentioned that you would appreciate if you could have it sooner if possible. Please know you are not the first heat related customer we have told it would be a few weeks to get the quote and you aren't the last. If you still want the quote, John will put aside everyone else and have it ready for you tomorrow morning. Please know that had you just called us and let us know that the 2-3 week turn around time for the quote was unacceptable to you, we would have gladly worked with you to meet your needs. Lastly, I will say that I don't think your grade of F in all categories was fair at all. You called us on 6/13, we came out that same week on 6/17. We set a 3:00 p.m. appt. and we are almost always on time (if we are running late, we always give a Courtesy Call), yet you graded us an F for punctuality? Frankly, I don't think we should get an A on this one either as there were some obvious miscommunications that I will take responsiblity for. I just don't think it's fair for you to give us an F in every category because you are angry with more than one contractor. If you would like to discuss this further, please feel free to contact me. H.A.R.P. came through for me in an emergency situation after my ?regular? HVAC company (for the second year in a row) had refused to. While I was visiting her after work, I found that my 90+ year old mother-in-law?s central A/C had quit on her. Because the temperature is next few days was predicted to be in the 90-100 degree range (and indeed was), I had to have the unit repaired as soon as possible. First, I got in touch with the company who had installed both my home A/C system and my mother-in-law?s for help. They were completely unresponsive even after being told my mother-in-law?s age and medical condition. They were booked solid for the next week or so and couldn?t (wouldn?t) do a thing for me. This was the second time that other company had ?blown me off?. Last year, another problem with my mother-in-law?s A/C prompted me to get in touch with these same people for help and I received the same (non)response then that I received this time around. I think I see a pattern here so there?s not going to be a third time for me with this other company. H.A.R.P. on the other hand couldn?t have been more helpful. They arranged to have someone at my mother-in-law?s early that same evening. The technician arrived on schedule, was able to diagnose the problem, made the necessary repairs and got my mother-in-law?s A/C system back on line in less than an hour. I paid a slight premium to H.A.R.P. because the work had to be scheduled after normal business hours but that extra cost was to be expected and completely justified.

When I called about having the work done they gave me a price over the phone so I set up an appointment. I was told someone would be at my house between 8:00 and 8:30. On the day of service he was here at 7:55 which was great. Rich was the technician ,(real nice guy), who came to do the work. He was very professional and personable. I had never seen how this work was done and was interested in how it worked. Rich took the time to explain what he was going to do and how he was going to do it. As the job went along he would show me what he was doing and also the results of how dirty my ducts were. Overall the experiance and the service were great.
Description of Work: I had all of my ducts cleaned and my central air serviced.

The installation went very well. The work is very neat and the crew was very clean & tidy. We were happy, the building inspector was happy. They did have to install new venting, which was more complicated that expected, but there were no additional charges. We did have a little trouble getting the thermostats on the 3 existing zones coordinated so that the furnace computer did not reach an over limit code--that took several additional service calls at no charge. The customer service is very responsive, and we've been trouble free for several months.
Description of Work: Replacement of existing gas boiler with new high efficiency gas boiler, add gas service line for new gas fireplace.

Asked them to come and give an estimate on a new furnace for my house in Hartford. The woman told me that they don't do residential work in Hartford. Their listing clearly says that they service all of Hartford County and portions of other counties. She then asked me what part of Hartford my house was in, "is it close to West Hartford?" I told her either you serve customers in Hartford or you don't. This is a clear case of redlining to me. They would send someone to the "good" parts of Hartford but not the "bad". Would not recommend them working anywhere until they service all of the counties they list or correct their listing to accurately reflect their work areas.

I'm sorry you were unhappy with your phone call. I think if it were me, I would be less than happy as well. I am positive we could have handled the phone call better and I will be mentioning this at the next staff meeting so that it doesn't happen again. That being said: Just like you get to choose what company you allow in your home, I also sometimes have to choose where we go. It is my responsibility as a business owner to keep all of my employees safe and that is my main motivation behind where I decide to send my technicians. It is not without past unfortunate experiences in certain areas of Hartford that led me to this decision. I've had my vans broken into and valuable tools and equipment stolen while on jobs there. I make sure all my employees are background checked and drug tested for my customer’s safety but I don't get to background check or drug test the places I send my technicians. Unfortunately, the fact is that some parts of Hartford are safer than others and for safety reasons and safety reasons alone is why I make my employees dig a little deeper about where in Hartford a customer lives. Going forward, I will make sure to correct our Angie’s List listing to reflect that we don't go to all areas of Hartford. I deeply regret that I just lost a potential customer. Tech was great. Took a while to diagnose the problem (not his fault, it is an older unit), once he did he called around to find a replacement part. Arranged for a co-worker to meet him halfway to cut down transport time. When the part arrived, found out the bracket wasn't quite right. Tech modified the bracket on the spot, replaced the unit, all was fine. No heavy sales pitch, no scare tactics, simply did the job and moved on. Highly recommended, will likely have them back to quote replacing my furnace & hot water heater (units are probably nearing their end-of-life).

These guys were great. Even though they let us know they could quote us a new system, they were fine with cleaning it. Did not push. During the estimate, he adjusted our vents for free. They took the angie's list coupon too. They talked to us for a long time, both the estimator and then the service tech. Highly recommended.
Description of Work: Acid washed outside condenser unit. Cleaned 20 years of dust off evaporator coils and blower unit. Our unit was installed in 1985 and the blocked airflow was apparently causing the coils to freeze up. They cleaned it up great.

Rich was just awesome. My first problem was that our regular guys claimed they were super busy and could not come for atleast 2 weeks (Connecticutt Cooling and Total Air out of Bloomfield). When I called HARP, they were quick to setup a next day appt. Very impressed right there. Then Rich arrived right on time and introduced himself with a great smile and sense of humor. That right there put you at ease. After that he went over each step and explained in detail what he was doing. We were up and running in an hr. He spent the next hour answering questions both me and my wife had (like pros and cons of putting humidifier etc). Fortunately the problem was the rollout switch but the $95 was well worth the money spent. I know HARP is our regular HVAC company and probably Rich our preferred technician we would like to have come back. Great job Rich....... You the best........
Description of Work: furnace was no longer working. Rich found that the rollout swich had to be reset. Fortunately nothing else was a problem. However Rich did a thorough check of everything else including A/C.

Overall, I am very satisfied. The price is somewhat higher than I would wish for, but the quality of the work is impeccable and the tech who installed my humidifier was extremely knowledgeable and professional. He even went above and beyond by fixing a couple minor issues, redoing some piping and wiring, and I simply could not ask for more.

I set up an appointment to discuss what I wanted. I was asked what price range I wanted to stay at. I was given some choices of different system. I was walk thought the process on the day of the install the was more than on time and the were very Professional and well mannered. everything went according to what I discussed. all my questions were answered. I would recommend and use their services again.

It was a hot summer day when this work was done and I had no A/C! I was very pleased that they were able to come out the same day I called. They arrived exactly when they said they would. They also finished the work very quickly. I thought the price involved for this service was great!

I think they are a very honest company and don't mind working hard to finish their work. They came early and I was impressed with how everyone had a positive attitude. They cleaned up very well after themselves.
