Perfect. David was very responsive to emails with questions we had. He came by to quote us when he said he would. Mike, the gentleman who did the work, called the night before to let us know what time he'd be here. He did a very good job, we were pleased with the repairs. It was a pleasure to work with this company and we have asked for quotes on a couple other projects we have. ( As an FYI, this review form category says interior painting and it doesn't seem that I can change that. There was no interior painting done).

The job was a big one. Our house is 100 years old this year, and we have committed to updating it, while trying to maintain the historical look. David came through on the initial walkthrough, and spent almost two hours with me. We discussed each and every room, and what we hoped to accomplish. His quote was delivered promptly by email. It was detailed, and broken down by individual tasks within each room. This allowed us to pick and choose exactly what we wanted to do, in what order, and more importantly what we could afford. It was very helpful! We started with our master bedroom. The walls were in need of treatments, and numerous layers of joint compound to make smooth and paint.. The job was clearly evolving into being bigger than was initially thought. David and his guys were not derailed, even after first results were not successful. They stuck too it, and the final result was great. They stayed late when needed, and cleaned up thoroughly each day. They came and worked during the recent snow storms, not letting the weather act as a barrier to progress. The resulting paint job is one we are thrilled with. We have already recommended David and his guys to friends, and they too were VERY HAPPY with their work as well. If you are looking for a contractor, David Harris and his crew are for you!

I requested to have the work done before Thanksgiving and we set a tentative date of November 24. I got a call around the 14th to change the date, I was out of town and when I returned I called Mr. Harris. After I refreshed his memory on what I hired him to do he referred to me as "the foyer girl". Would he call my husband the "foyer boy" if he happened to be speaking to him instead? We finalized the start date to be the 21st. I rushed home that morning to get a call that his crew would not be able to start that day since another job was not completed. About an hour later I got another call stating his crew couldn't get into the other job so could they come today? I said sure. 45 minutes or so later 2 men show up to do the work. I had to explain what was to be done, showing them the quote. They did not have drop cloths, ladders or patching material or tools. Thankfully I was providing the paint so they could start with cutting in. I also provided the paper towels for them to wipe up drips. They were quiet and polite and seemed focused on the job at hand. When they left I asked when they would be back and was told Tuesday, if that changes I'd get a call. When I returned home Monday morning I found someone in my driveway waiting to get started. I had no idea he was going to show up. This was a new guy who had to be instructed on what to do. He was given wrong information from Mr. Harris so again I had to pull out the quote and explain what areas are to be painted, and not painted. (He was told to paint doors in addition to trim and walls) He had no ladder and borrowed mine. He talked a lot to me, not about the job, and on his cell phone. While painting he asked me how to get on the mailing list for Pottery Barn and then proceeded to call them to get their catalog. ( I had mentioned that PB sometimes has coupon offers for Sherwin Williams paint). To inspire confidence in his work he told me the guys that came on the first day had less than 5 years experience between them. The material he used to patch the holes in the wall had a very strong odor, causing a headache. My daughter and I retreated to her room and even though it was cool outside opened a window to get some fresh air. In the future I recommend the staff advise the home owner in advance if such an odorous product is used. There are plenty of patching products available that do give off such a strong odor. The first guys left a clean edge of the upstairs wall, the guy with lots of experience painted over the edge and left a partially painted area. Since he also had to use my ladder which was not meant to be propped up on stairs to reach high areas, he used some dirty patio pavers that were in my yard as weights , directly on the stair carpeting. I asked him to use a rag under them and he did. While he was cleaning up Mr Harris called me to get in touch with his worker, while I was making dinner, tending to the dog and my daughter. We talked for awhile and he asked how I would rate the work on Angie's List. I felt cornered and explained I felt like I was being charged for a premium- he responded that his painters are professional and paid well. Over the days following the completion of work I noticed several areas of the walls were not completely painted, there was paint on my handrails and some splotches on the hard wood floors. In summary, Mr Harris is unprofessional and over books jobs, his workers are average. I had high expectations believing that you get what you pay for. I considered asking them to come back to touch up the areas missed, but honestly don't want to have any more to do with them. The wails were eggshell white and the paint that was used was light gray, so I am can easily see the paints splatters and hits on the wood finish hand rails. They were not there before the job was started.

Yes. I remember this job well. All I can do is apologize that we were so fractionated. I tried to fit you in a tight window at your request. Sorry for your trouble. Since you repainted with the same color I am certain that the paint you see on the rail or floor is old and original. We simply don't get paint on things. All our other reviews prove this. But so sorry you had this experience. I will keep this experience in mind before I attempt to do a rush job as a favor in the future.

I have never used a professional painter before. Painting has been on my "to do" list forever, but after 50+ hour work weeks, who has time to be a weekend warrior? I joined Angie's list so i could find painter services and purchased a painting package for David Harris' company. David Harris was professional, explained the process, and all the work entailed in the estimate. I don't have much reference to compare the price to as it was my first time hiring someone to paint; however it was worth every penny based on the end result. I will call David again to do some exterior painting and 2 guest bedrooms I'm doing over.

David's estimate was similar to the other I received so the price seemed fair. He was able to start work pretty quickly and all the work was done pretty much about a week which is quite reasonable especially considering that there were a couple of rainy days which held the painting back a bit.. The painting was flawless and the carpentry work was well done. I will definitely use David in the future.
Description of Work: David's group, repaired a section of my homes exterior, where water damage had led to rot and a carpenter ant infestation. He repaired some framing, sheathing and siding. He also repaired several windows,(sills and brick molding and painted the windows and repaired of the house.

Please note that my comments above are related to the worker who actually did the work at my home. They are not about Mr. Harris, since that the first and last time we saw him was the morning the work began. We were disappointed, however, that he did not contact us to discuss how things had gone and whether we had been satisfied with the work. I do admit that I could have called him myself after it was done. Thank you.

Dear customer. I had one other complaint similar to this. I do not do the painting. I am a business owner with several employees. I work 60 hours a week doing administration and field management. I visit each job at the beginning middle and end of the process. When Eric was finishing your house I was there and spoke with your husband. You were not there. He and Eric were getting along very well. And your husband expressed much happiness about the job. So this comes as a surprise. In my eyes I had a final walk through with the customer because your husband was there. I am sorry I didn't call you. I should not have assumed that you and your husband talked after I did a walk through with him...My bad...The price cant be rated a "C" because you purchased one of our highly discounted deals online. If it was a high price you wouldn't have bought it. Otherwise, I am sorry for your frustration.

Setting up the appointment was a breeze on Angie's list. David was very responsive and answered all questions using the Angie's list Ask question featuer. David initially missed the appointment on the schedule but more than made up for it by apologizing and scheduling me the next day, We had moved into the house and kept the room with furniture in the middle so appreciatedn him realizing his error and adjusting schedules to accomodate us. Eric came to the job and since he was held up in traffic, David called to ensure we knew the reason for the delay so would definitely rate high on responsiveness and communication. The job was spot on. Eric took the time to make sure everything was done properly and the end result looks great. Will definitely look to hire them for future work.

the job was done well but the professionalism was lacking. First told I had to buy Sherman Williams paint and nothing else so when to get color. Then when he called me back he insisted on Home Depot paint which he now preferred but got no discount on it. Timing was hampered by the fact that the one painter was on the phone doing mortgage deals the whole time and not concentrating on the time or the work. He did a good job with a few minor problems that I fixed thought he came back to pick up an item he left. He had to hurry to finish the second day job as he had other obligations so I did the clean up. It appeared that they had me way over buy paint, as I had 1 and 1/3 gallons left over. Never had a painter book a job without looking at the job first. Also did not want to hear over and over how busy the owner was due to the Angie list response.

Hi (customer). Sorry you had this experience. I do wish you called us to tell us we missed a spot. We would have come to take care of it. We switched to Behr premium plus ultra because it is better paint. We use that exclusively now on interiors. Eric was your painter and he was using his blue tooth to talk to the bankers. He did have a pressing mortgage issue to work out...but work must go on. He didn't lose time because of the phone. He uses blue tooth so he can talk and work unrestricted. The reason we didn't look at the job is because you hired us by the hour. So there is no contract involved other than what you had with Angie's list. We don't sell "by the hour deals" anymore because there is too much confusion for the customers. Thanks for your understanding. David

We had arranged to have rooms painted a month before we went on vacation for a week and David was able to keep on schedule starting and completing the painting while we were gone. We hadn't had David preview the job to be done before the start of work, and on start day he advised us that some of the rooms had textured walls and may result in some shadowing and asked us if we wanted wall plastered and sanded, etc or just painted over (we opted for the later). The paint job was done really well, we were very happy with it, and they did a great job cleaning up too. David is very easy to work with and it is clear customer satisfaction is very important to him. We later hire his company to open up the wall between our family room and living room and had another great experience.

David Harris and his employees did a fantastic job painting most of the interior including ceilings and trim. He and his crew started and finished the job on time and did an amazing job. Everyone that works for Mr. Harris is extremely professional and courteous. They are thorough and left the house clean at the end of each day. Such professionalism! The painter (Eric) spent a great deal of time carefully prepping and repairing (compounding, scraping) my bathroom ceiling before applying two coats of paint to it. Eric did a meticulous job, was highly professional -- even running to the store to buy an alternate type of paint that he thought would work better than what I had purchased. He was right. The job is excellent. I highly recommend these folks for your painting needs!

The workers who were send took pride in their work The house looks amazing. David assisted with the selection of colors and oversaw the work The painters paid very careful attention to all detail If I had a question, David would pick up the phone immediately. I was impressed why he texted me about the choice of dining room colors as it was the day of his daughter's wedding When it looked like the work would not be done on time, the guys worked after and even worked during the holiday. The bottom line is that if you are looking for someone to take care of your house, i would definitely go with David.

We purchased a deal that included 24 hr of painting from Mr. Harris and his crew for $799, and we ended up paying an additional $2200 for the work we had done. Mr. Harris came to our home for an initial visit and spent about an hour looking over everything. He then made suggestions on what brands of paint to use and where to purchase them. Mr. Harris and his crew did an excellent job, everything looks amazing. We have several sets of built-ins and significant amount of natural wood colored trim, The previous owner did not take much care in avoiding them with paint. Mr. Harris and his crew not only cut in very nicely around our trim, but they also cleaned the other paint off the fixtures. We also had a textured faux finish on several of our walls that we wanted covered so that there was no evidence it ever existed. He did an excellent job concealing that as well. I would highly recommend Mr. Harris, and cannot say enough about how good the work is. Do not hesitate to contact him.

Big Deal..... NOPE more like Big Head Ache Prior to purchasing the Big Deal, I contacted Mr. Harris to determine availability. He assured me that they had plenty of availability the following week. As such, I purchased the Big Deal ($299 for Painter for a Day - David Harris). At the same time, I talked to Mr. Harris about getting a quote on painting the exterior of our home. He stated that he would be out on the following Sunday. When Mr. Harris came out on Sunday, he provided the quote for the outside. He also requested to see the work that we were going to use the coupon for. He then went on and on about this job was not going to be one day worth of work; that they would have to mud, sand, prime and apply two coats of paint. I explained that I didn't need them to do all of the work, just the areas I couldn't reach. He said that they would do what we wanted them to. He then provided me with a date to complete the work. When I inquired about why it couldn't be the following week (week of June 23rd, 2014), as we had family coming in, he stated that he had a big job come up (1st reschedule). We were subsequently scheduled for July 10th-11th. Saturday July 5th, I inquired as to when the interior painting would be completed (from a previous text that day from Mr. Harris about the possibility of completing exterior paint work). I was informed that we were scheduled for July 10th-11th, but "it would be convenient to change those dates if it's convenient for you... As I am behind schedule due to rain...." I received a text stating July 24th and 25th for work dates. (2nd reschedule) I received a text the next day (July 6th) stating that those days would not work for him and he would get back with me dates in early August. (3rd reschedule) I received a new text July 8th that since the 10th-11th were not good for me that he would schedule me for August 26th-27th. (4th reschedule) After stating that these dates would not work, as we expected the work to be completed by now, he offered dates in mid-August. (5th reschedule) As you can see from the numerous schedule changes back and forth, I cannot accept using this individual. The $299 Big Deal will need to be refunded.

Dear customer I am sorry we were not able to schedule your job after you cancelled July 10th and 11th for your family coming. As you pointed out I tried different dates and came up short of your expectations after you cancelled the original dates. I only had the 10th and 11th of July and it was a tight fit at that. I failed to find the right fit for your needs otherwise and I apologize. I will take this opportunity to let my future customers know that if you buy a deal it is not possible for me to book you on an emergency basis. I failed once with this customer and I do not want to repeat it. Thank you for your business!
