Everything went fine the day of the service call. He was prompt, he worked for quite a few hours, he was paid, and he left. Based on a couple of preliminary tests the machine seemed great--it was brighter, more complete and more alive than it had been for years. Less than two months after the work was done we discovered that the machine was not issuing free balls at the prescribed scores, a problem that had never occurred in the all the years we'd had the machine. We tested this a few times and nothing. I emailed Eric, thanking him for the work he'd done and mentioning that we had this one issue which we'd never had before. I assumed it would be a simple fix. He replied that the 30 day warranty period had elapsed and if we wanted him to come back he'd have to charge as though we were a new customer (travel time, labor, materials, etc.). I said I understood the 30 day issue, but that this was not about warrantying something he'd replaced/repaired; this was an issue we'd never had before and perhaps there was a middle ground that was fair for everyone. His response was to ignore that email, and to ignore the phone message I left after that. Needless to say, I was pretty angry. We spent $800 and the machine now functioned less well than it did before because of this vital malfunction. My sister wanted to take the high road and reached out to him herself. He ignored her first few attempts. She finally got him on the phone by leaving a general message about needing his services. She explained who she was, thanked him for the positive changes he had brought about, asked him to see our side of things, and understood that he wouldn't come back for free. But can't we work something out so that the machine we entrusted to his care would work properly? His response: HE HUNG UP ON HER! We have subsequently discovered quite a few other minor defects: gates that only open some of the time, lights that are already flickering out, scoring reels that are already sticking again, etc. Of course, this isn't Eric's problem. After all, it's already been 3 months. He has our money. What does he care if the machine only works partially well. This is the treatment you can expect to receive if you engage Eric Branstrom/Home Arcade Repair Service.
Description of Work: We engaged Eric Branstrom and Home Arcade Repair Services to bring back to life a 1970s era Bally's pinball machine that had been in our family for 3 decades. He came to us to perform the work, as opposed to bringing the machine to him. The essence of the agreement was to get all functions, features, lights, sounds, etc. working so that the machine worked as it did originally. We did not put a cap on the time/cost of the work. We wanted it done as well and as completely as possible.
