We recently hired Gove Restoration LLC for a full bathroom gut/replacement and kitchen update. Matt came out twice (second time with his subcontractors) in order to be able to give us the most realistic quote possible - something which we truly appreciated in order to stay on budget. He also helped discuss and design our kitchen to make the most out of the space we had. We absolutely love the end result of both the bathroom and kitchen. They were honest, on time, clean and kept in contact with us throughout the whole renovation with updates. We've already recommended them to others!

I had hired Gove Restoration to repair an exterior wall that was taking in water from outside drainage. This was a big project for us, and we were very nervous as we were having water issues coming into the house. I can now say after a few months of the job being complete and a few big rainstorms that every dollar i spent was well worth it. They resealed my exterior wall, and put in a new drainage system in my front yard. They also put in a very nice retaining wall and dropped the exterior level below the house floor to prevent water. Matt Gove continues to be an excellent businessman and his team proves over and over that they are extremely good contractors. The quality of work that I have received has been tremendous, I know when I hire Gove that i know the money is well spent. This is the third time I've hired them and will continue to do so for future projects.

We could not be happier with the result, it is gorgeous, it was well worth the investment and the effort. We were also very happy with the process. When you select the Gove brothers for a project, you have their undivided attention. Literally every square inch is attended to with great care. They are meticulous, experienced, highly organized and quality oriented. I don’t know how Adam did it, but he stuck to his planning to the day so we knew what was happening next. They have a great team of skilled professionals working with them, they all take such great pride in what they do and have been working together for years if not decades. They were all a joy to have in our house, everything was left clean and ready for the next day. “The Goves are such good carpenters!” one of the cabinet makers told me and I could see that he was right. They are also very good people. They love what they do and they enjoy working together. I have enjoyed and learned from every conversation with Adam and Matt. I was able to weigh in every decision no matter how little I knew. We had trust and understanding throughout the project. As a result, the space is now a reflection of our taste and it is built to last. You would be in good hands if you selected them for your project.
Description of Work: Adam and Matt Gove recently remodeled the first floor of our colonial style home with an emphasis on bringing the electricity and insulation up to code, building a new kitchen space and opening up and brightening the family room. This was our first project.

Gove Restoration is the best! Adam, Matt and Paul told us when they would be there and had everything planned out. The whole project went like clockwork. Gove may be a bit more expensive than some kitchen outlets, but the quality of their work speaks for itself. I don't think they could have given this project more detailed attention. I highly recommend Gove Restoration and my wife and I are already planning another project for them.

Gove did a great job. very professional in all aspects. Did a good job explaining all the work and their quote, showed up when they said they would and finished in a timely manner. They kept me up to date on all the progress, they managed a number of sub contractors as part of the project and keep on them and made sure they did great work too. High level of craftsmanship and attention to detail. Highly recommended.

We hired Gove Restoration to replace the original windows in our 1960's home in Old Wethersfield, CT and couldn't be happier with our decision. From the initial conversation through the estimate, scheduling, actual work and follow up processes, Adam Gove was professional, thoughtful and thorough. Gove Restoration also handled the approval process through the Wethersfield Historic District Commission on our behalf which we greatly appreciated.

The following projects were incredible: (1) Kitchen Transformation never ceases to amaze me & everyone that comes in. (Wish my parents were still alive to see it.); (2) Painting (living room, two bedrooms, halls, porch, dining) were excellent; (3) Sun room with it's complete gutting, woodworking, etc. is so complete -- I still hesitate to place anything in except for my daughter's painting on canvas in the window due to its "gallery" presence!

I left message on Wednesday and Adam left a message at 4:30pm Thursday saying he was unable to take any call that day but to call Friday which I did. I did finally get to speak with him when he called back on Monday. He said they were extremely busy and if I were to sign a contract that day they wouldn’t be able to start until November. The time frame was a little long for us but he did say to call if our plans changed and we wanted an estimate.

After a frozen pipe burst in our 1920's home, we needed to completely gut and rebuild the kitchen. Matt and Adam were booked for months, but we decided to wait for them to become available because we trusted them to do the highest quality job. They did not disappoint and were well worth the wait. From the beginning, Matt was upfront and honest about his recommendations and the price of the job. Not surprisingly, there were a number of issues that needed to be addressed. When it was all said and done, Matt and Adam ended up reinforcing old ceiling joists, rerouting all of the plumbing for the kitchen and bathroom above, and replacing all of the existing wiring in the kitchen. In addition to replacing the floors, cabinets, backsplash and walls in the kitchen, they also opened up a wall between the kitchen and dining room, resurfaced the cracked plaster in the dining room, and installed a custom built corner hutch. They installed custom trim throughout the kitchen and dining room to match the original trim in the rest of the house. Throughout the project, Matt's communication regarding both progress and setbacks was excellent. We would receive almost daily emails, text messages, and phone calls with updates on how things were progressing. Every time I stopped by the house I found the job site immaculate and neat. The finished product is flawless. Matt, Adam, and each of their subcontractors do work of the highest quality. They will always be our first and only call for any home renovation project we might complete in the future. If we need to wait for them again, we will gladly do so.

Outstanding experience from the initial phone call to the final day of work. Matt Gove was on time for his estimate and explained all the options, and brought pamphlets to show examples. The quote was well detailed so I knew exactly what I was getting and for how much. Matt communicated often and frequently before and during the project to make sure we were aware of timelines, products, and any changes in the construction. I will be using Gove restoration for all future projects, as this experience is exactly what a customer expects in hiring a contractor.

The Gove Brothers are the best there is! They go above and beyond what it means to be professional. They exemplify what service means every time. This is the second time we have hired them and thought we couldn't be more pleased the first time, this was a much bigger project and we were thrilled with the service, quality, insight and timeliness at every turn. Matt's insight and advice throughout the process was helpful and on point. His suggestions made our remodel even better than we had imagined. He kept us in the loop throughout the process and was available by text and phone at any time. He was informative with the timeline and the process and we always knew what was coming next and what was needed from us on our end. It was a partnership and was a fabulous experience. The guys he has working with him are top notch. They are meticulous and professional. The house and area was left impeccably clean every day which is important with twin 3 year olds. His attention to detail and dedication to the job is above and beyond what you will get with anyone else. He was kind and friendly with us and our children. The workmanship is unreal. Everything is perfect. Matt checked in frequently to be sure we were pleased with the process and to make sure we didn't have any questions throughout the project. He was easy to work with and we were sad to see them go. We now have the kitchen of our dreams and get numerous compliments on the design, flow, quality and attention to detail. HIRE these guys! YOU will NOT be disappointed. We will use them over and over again!

All the crews they used were great to deal with, very meticulous, and left the job as clean as possible each day. I can't say enough about how helpful and responsive Matt Gove was through the entire process. He kept me well-advised of cost changes and the reasons for them. They were not the lowest estimate I got, but they were the ones who appreciated our desire to maintain the character of the house. I would definitely work with them again.
Description of Work: Gove Restoration did a wrap-around front porch re-build on our 1913 Queen Anne house, and they did a fabulous job, bringing new life to a porch we rarely used. We needed everything below the porch roof ripped out and re-done. The guys had great ideas for the low latticework and trim boards. They did a beautiful job replacing the floor, which was then painted in Benjamin Moore Boston Brick. I love it! They replaced columns, and re-used railings and balusters, milling some new ones for replacements.

Gove Restoration just completed a total renovation of my upstairs bathroom taking it down to the studs and building it back up including carpentry, sheet rocking, wainscoting, tile, plumbing, electrical, all new fixtures and a new glass door shower/tub enclosure - the room came out great. This was another in a long line of interior and exterior projects they have done for me over the last six year six years including gut renovations of the basement, kitchen/dining room/mud room (which including removing a wall for an improved layout) and turning a powder room into a full bathroom with a beautiful tiled shower. They've made an amazing difference in my house. All the projects were well run with high quality work and attention to detail. The whole crew including their subcontractors are a pleasure to work with and I feel comfortable having them in my home when I can't be there. Adam Gove is responsive, keeps me informed through every step of the project, makes great suggestions and keeps me stress free during the process.

Gove Restoration is one of the best decisions we have ever made, especially for such a big and important job—that you have to live with, day in and day out! If you are looking to have something done, big or small, Gove Restoration probably did it for us—because we had them do everything. We recommend Gove Restoration 1000%. They earned the highest possible rating from us! We acquired a solid but run-down mid-1960’s split-level in Wethersfield. Other than essential maintenance, the house was not touched in 50 years. It was hard to imagine anything good coming out of that dingy house. Matt Gove and his brother Adam of Gove Restoration, with help from Dave Gove and their father, completely transformed that split-level, inside and out, into a spacious, modern, bright and airy, high-quality, insulated, comfortable, far from ordinary home, with state-of-the-art wiring and technology! The house feels good. Everything is rock-solid, built to last!!! Seven key factors that clearly distinguish Matt and Adam Gove, Gove Restoration from the rest: 1. Matt Gove’s honesty speaks for itself in his extensively detailed proposals. Every aspect of the job was discussed and broken down in detail and cost—even before we signed up. We discussed a budget, and we knew exactly what we would be getting, the exact material that would be used, and how much it would cost. We could have chosen any material, roofing, siding, windows, etc. that we wished. We preferred to rely on Matt for recommendations. Based on his tried and true experience, Matt provided us with many alternatives/options/at various price points. He also provided manufacturers websites for reference. Sometimes opportunities present themselves during a renovation and changes are advantageous. Matt always provides detailed change orders with alternatives. When Gove Restoration starts your job, they work on it exclusively until it is done. We never had to worry that we overlooked something. Matt thinks of everything! He made everything easy and worry-free. Another thing to keep in mind is that Gove Restoration truly specializes in restoration as well. We discussed every element in the house and decided whether to restore or replace. 2. We met several top-rated contractors about our renovation project, and truly studied their work to the smallest detail. We were completely impressed with Matt Gove, the quality and aesthetic of their work, his many solid ideas to improve look and functionality, the detailed proposal and fair price. His ideas were not just talk. He had already done everything he described, and we could see his work. 3. Impeccable craftsmanship in every little “up-close” detail is just as important as the big picture; if you have one without the other, you have nothing. Gove Restoration far exceeded our very high expectations and was everything we could ever want, or dream of, for this or any future renovation project. Matt and Adam Gove and their father are master carpenters. The craftsmanship is perfection. Matt Gove worked on the networking system with his brother Dave, who is an IT specialist and acted as a consultant for the job. They designed a unified, clean, wiring system for state-of-the-art technology throughout the house. Without exaggeration, they thought of everything! Everything is done right! Everything is solid. Everything is perfect! Really. 4. Design: Without Matt Gove’s expertise and design talent, the house would just be the same 60’s house with cosmetic fixes. With just a few very carefully thought-out tweaks to the design of the 60’s split-level, Gove Restoration converted the exterior to a clean modern craftsman look. Although it fits nicely in the neighborhood, it stands out as the nicest looking home in the area. They did the same with the interior—it no longer feels like a 60’s split-level! We wanted a front door area with no windows for complete privacy. To add light and a modern element, Matt put in the most perfect small windows up near the roof line above the door area. This little change created a very comfortable feel inside and a modern look outside. With minimal alteration, they made excellent use of wasted space, enlarged closet space, added precious space to the master bath, and made other rooms seem brighter and larger. They converted a summer sunroom into a heated/air-conditioned extension of the house, with a nice-looking secure storage area below. The exterior stairs leading to the sunroom were replaced, and we were amazed to see that Matt created a very attractive hidden space under the stairs to store those big plastic garbage bins! The interior and exterior elements and all the little details work together. The interior is fresh, bright, and modern. Matt Gove, his father and brothers put a lot of thought into this house and worked on it as if it was their own. 5. Because we lived out of state during this process, it was important to hire someone we could trust to do the job without daily supervision, and someone with excellent design talent. Matt Gove guided us through every decision throughout the entire project (and kept us informed every step of the way.) I would like to say again--Without his expertise and design talent, the house would just be the same 60’s house with cosmetic fixes. Due to unforeseen circumstances, our focus was diverted away from the project. With complete peace-of-mind, we could rely on Gove Restoration for all the finishing details, including all paint colors, window treatments, picking out the dining room light fixture, working with Cox, the alarm company, etc. He was happy to help in any way possible. He took care of everything! (Because of his interior decorating skills, and because we value his opinion, and we like him, we plan on taking Matt furniture shopping with us.) What he accomplished with that house is beyond anything we, or anyone else, could have imagined. Gove Restoration transformed that house into a fabulous, WOW home! 6. The Gove family are truly the finest people one could ever meet and work with. This was a huge project! But they made it so easy, and stress-free! We communicated easily and freely by txt msg, emails, phone calls, numerous txt pictures, and exciting visits! Through this project, we and our families have gotten to know the Gove family, who we now consider to be a part of our family! 7. When Matt needed to use a specialty sub-contractor (electrical, plumbing, furnace installation, generator, roofer, etc.), he knows, and used only the best people in the business. Even though he uses the best people, he still supervises every aspect very closely. He doesn’t take anything for granted. If it is not exactly right, it is re-done! Matt graciously agreed to pick out and order all of the window blinds for the entire house. When the window blinds came in, they were all cut just a little too short width wise. Any other contractor would not have noticed or taken the easy way out. Matt Gove made them replace all of the blinds! This is what makes Matt Gove, Matt Gove! This is what makes a job perfect! Other examples: After the Living Room Ceiling was finished/painted, the sun decided to shine a certain way. Matt did not like what he saw, so they re-sanded, etc. and repainted the sprawling ceiling. We asked Matt to select paint colors for us. He didn’t think the colors in some of the rooms that he painted were exactly right, so he made subtle color changes and re-painted rooms until they were perfect—who else would do that? The paver sidewalks weren’t lining up exactly as planned. He had them realign the sidewalks until they were right—same thing with the patio. The thought of renovating that split-level was overwhelming. Gove Restoration made it all easy and very enjoyable. Thanks to Gove Restoration our old house is better than new! We know exactly what went into the renovation of our home and that our money was well spent. We know that we have solid quality. We know that we can call Gove Restoration anytime!
Description of Work: Complete exterior and interior renovation: EXTERIOR: New Roof: The roof does not leak!!! Beautiful, clean, neat job! No damage to shrubs. Rotted wood was replaced. Chimney was repaired and sealed. Gutters: Perfect clean installation. Installed to drain away from the house. Excellent system used to keep leaves out of the gutters. New Windows: As with all the other choices, we could select any window brand that we wanted. Matt directed us to several high-quality lesser known options, well-known brands, and various price-points. We chose Marvin-Integrity. All windows were perfectly installed and transformed the house. Siding: The workmanship is perfection! No waves, dents, or seams in the siding, truly none! (Nothing kills the look faster than wavy siding with a bunch of ugly seams.) Matt measured the entire house and determined that we could get some siding in longer lengths to avoid all seams—genius!!! He also knows which commonly proposed underlayments NOT to use because they cause waves in the siding. They also painted the ugly cement foundation to match the siding. All rotting wood was replaced. Garage Doors/Entry Doors/Door Frames/Lock-Deadbolt Sets: All new exterior doors/frames were installed. The doors look great and function perfectly. No sagging. No gaps to let air in. Air tight fit. Smooth working deadbolt locks! All rotting wood was replaced. Shutters: We were going to put shutters on every window in the house, like everyone else. Instead, Matt used wider window framing. We only used shutters on the front of the house. The other windows have no shutters and add a wonderfully modern element. Instead of the common white windows, we all decided on black windows—wow what a difference! Paver patio, sidewalks, and retaining walls, Driveway: The existing house had no sidewalks at all. Water, which would freeze in winter, and dirt, would run off the raised lawn onto the driveway. Matt designed two small paver retaining walls to keep dirt and water from running onto the driveway and two symmetrical paver sidewalks. One side walk goes to the front door, the other to the back door and patio area. The front stoop was replaced. The flagstone was selected to match the interior elements. A new dip-free, crack-free driveway was installed. Exterior stairs leading to the sunroom: The old plain, minimal stairs were replaced with beautiful stairs and a landing. We were amazed to see that Matt created a very attractive hidden space under the stairs to store those big plastic garbage bins! INTERIOR: Kitchen Renovation: The dark dated kitchen is now a modern, clean, airy, bright, contemporary craftsman style, that feels warm and comfortable, as well as solid, efficient and convenient. We took inspiration from a kitchen that Matt did for another client, which we loved. Our kitchen is everything we had hoped for and much more! The showpiece of our home! The whole house is tied together with a nice flow, nothing boring--the look of the exterior and interior of the house was based off the kitchen cabinet style that we selected for the kitchen and the spectacular granite counter top material that we splurged on. Matt Gove directed us to a highly-regarded cabinet shop that carried a comprehensive selection of styles and price points. Matt worked directly with the cabinet maker and us to insure the kitchen was designed for the most efficient and attractive use of space. We selected faucets from one of the plumbing supply companies that he recommended. We used a really nice high end, heavy 16 gauge, insulated sink that Matt found for us. It was a fraction of the cost of the lighter 18 gauge sinks that we found at various plumbing supply companies. He also found the perfect cabinet knobs for us! They sold for an outrageous amount of money on one of the popular restoration websites. Matt found the exact same knobs for a steal. Matt taught us not to under-estimate the impact of the right cabinet knobs--they make a huge difference. Matt converted a summer sunroom into a 4-season room that adds a lot of light into the kitchen and ties very nicely with the kitchen. Matt found and installed a fold away TV for the kitchen island seating area. It connects to the cable TV box which is located in the well-organized tech-room that they configured. The island is also equipped with computer ports and a convenient family charging station. Matt has done so many things that we can’t live without, but never thought to include on our own. Bathroom Renovations: The original, hopeless bathrooms were tiny as compared to today’s standards and had limited to no storage. We were at a complete loss as what to do with these bathrooms. To our great relief, Matt Gove figured out exactly what to do! Matt narrowed down the overwhelming selection of materials for us, and presented them for our approval. In one of the bathrooms Matt eliminated a small linen closet and a chimney inside a wall that was no longer being used, to allow for a nice double vanity. Instead of the linen closet, the cabinet maker made a great looking spacious tall cabinet in a much better location in the bathroom. A wall-hung toilet also took a lot less space than a conventional toilet. In another bathroom he found a way to include walls of storage space. Together with just the right fixtures, flooring materials, tiles, or paneled wainscoting, lots of storage, wall hung TVs, the bathrooms are unique, modern, clean and feel much larger now. Because of the superb choice in materials and layout, our bathrooms leave nothing more to be desired. Technology: Working with his brother Dave, an IT specialist, Matt Gove installed a unified, clean, wiring system for state-of-the-art technology throughout the house. Without going into details, they installed wonderful technologies that we never dreamed of having because we didn’t know they existed. Lighting: Matt Gove placed, installed, and in some cases found, all of the lighting inside and outside the home. Every light fixture was precisely placed—including the recessed lights, which are logically and neatly aligned throughout the house. Because we completely trust Matt’s design skills, we asked him to surprise us by selecting the most important and prominent light fixture in the house! We are thrilled with the spectacular, contemporary dining room chandelier that he found. It is a focal point and fits perfectly with the other elements in the house! Flooring/Wall Tile/Sheetrock: Matt Gove installed oak flooring in the kitchen and dining room to seamlessly match the existing oak flooring in the house--no squeaking—fantastic stain and finish! All of the wall and ceiling sheetrock was replaced—truly perfection. We were overwhelmed with the endless selection of flooring, wall, and counter-top materials. Matt Gove narrowed down the various selections to ensure that all the materials work together to create a nice flow throughout the house. All different. All work together wonderfully. Nothing boring. As with everything else, all quality installation—and all the grout is maintenance-free! Insulation/Heating/Air-conditioning/Plumbing/Electrical/Sump Pump/Generator: The walls and ceilings were taken down to the studs. Matt coordinated, hired, and supervised top quality sub-contractors to do the most specialized work. Plumbing was re-worked in certain locations to meet current code specifications. The entire electrical system was re-done and updated to meet modern needs. The sump-pump system was replaced and run-off routed away from the house. New heating and AC systems were installed, along with new areas to heat and cool. A whole-house generator was installed. The attic was completely insulated and a floor was put in to allow for temperature-friendly storage. All of the walls in our home, including the basement level, were re-insulated with above code insulation. A special garage heater was installed in the garage.
