There comes a time in everyone’s life when we have to make decisions on who we are and what we want to represent to the world. In both our professional and personal lives we must stand for something and stand behind something with integrity and honor. I hired this company to repair my boiler as the previous owner had a service contract with them so I found it only right to keep it. Recently my boiler has been experiencing problems so I called the company I could trust. Their fee is $179 to have the technician come to repair the boiler in addition to parts and additional repair time. As a business they are entitled to charge whatever fee they want and as a consumer I can accept or look elsewhere. I decided to accept but I asked that they simply not “turn the boiler on” but repair the boiler. Prior to hiring them I asked that the technician fix the issue. Not simply turn on the boiler temporarily at a fee of $179. Let me make one thing crystal clear I am in no way expecting everything to be repaired for $179 I was expecting and willing to accept additional charges for parts and the technicians work. But what I did not expect was for the technician to turn on the boiler and for it to stop working three hours later. My conversation with the technician was that my boiler is fairly new 2017 and there was two parts that needed to be replaced. The technician assured me that his work would keep the boiler running and the parts that needed to be replaced were to prevent the boiler from failing in its entirety. Three hours after the technician left the boiler stopped working. I called the office and left a voicemail. I informed them that the boiler as well as the hot water was not working and I waited for a return called. Unfortunately my MS was triggered by the extreme cold and I was hospitalized that evening. When I called the office back a day later I was told that I had to pay another $179 for the technician to return to “fix” the boiler again all this while they work on invoicing and ordering the parts that I needed. I know I’m from a different time when integrity was more dominant, and people backed their workmanship with guarantees. So maybe I was foolish to expect the work performed by this company to last at least 24 hours. And maybe I was naïve to assume that the company would stand behind their work for at least 24 hours. While I understand this review will do nothing in the grand scheme of things I hope that whomever reads this understands that there is more to life then charging customers over and over again for work that did not last even 5 hours. They have my payment in full while I am without. Ask yourself is $179 a fair price to pay for three hours of heat in this economy? I’m in a home without heat or hot water at this rate and the workmanship preformed by this company a “repair” lasting only three hours would cost me $1,432 a day. I’m disappointed and disheartened but I am powerless to do anything. You can’t make people have integrity

I am selling my house and needed to have my AC system evaluated to fulfill the terms of the PSA agreement. I called my usual HVAC servicer, but they were booked out for 2 weeks. I called Air Specialties and they were able to send out a technician the very next day. Jim (the HVAC technician) actually was able to arrive ahead of schedule. He was polite, professional, and very knowledgeable, and he performed a very thorough evaluation of the AC system. I am very pleased with the service I received. It's too bad that I'm moving out of state in just a few weeks because I would definitely hire them in the future for all my HVAC needs.

Bob Bradley of Air Specialties came to our house on March 21 and reviewed what we needed. We also asked for estimates from two other companies. We never heard back from Air Specialties until May 12 (almost two months later), when we received in the mail an estimate dated May 10. We selected one of the other two companies (both of which had provided estimates within a couple of days of visiting), and the job was completed the week before we received the Air Specialties estimate . Not only that, but the Air Specialties estimate was about 75% more than the bid we accepted from Countywide Mechanical Services--which did an excellent job on the project.

In early '90's excellent job in removing and replacing old oil furnace with gas high efficiency furnace. And similarly retiring the HE gas after 20 years (Carrier's timed mortality) and replacing with another. Periodic maintenance is efficiently carried out. Recently called, early 2018, about broken thermostat - a Honeywell model that turns out to be flaky - and got good, thoughtful advice at no charge. Air Specialties people know their business, are courteous and responsive.

I hired this company because they were the only one with a technician available. Their technician assessed the problem, said the unit needed a new capacitor. With installation the new capacitor would cost about $700. I paid for this. However, the unit still did not work. The technician said that the compressor was no longer working, although he said it had been working before he'd changed capacitors. He suggested it might need to cool down and offered to stand by the unit with a hose on it, to cool it down, though that would cost me $150/hour. I declined. My regular air conditioner repair person (who had given me the first available slot, 2 days after the unit broke down) came as scheduled -- my plan was to have him assess the compressor. However, he noted that there was a wire that had been left disconnected from the new capacitor, which he told me was the most expensive and elaborate model available.. He connected it, the compressor started up, and the unit has worked perfectly ever since. Unfortunately, it would not have been economical because of labor costs to replace the capacitor again with a less expensive model. So I was stuck with a solid gold capacitor!

Received quotes from several providers in the area. Air Specialties spent the most time at the residence quoting out the job and they provided a competitive quote with several HVAC system options and smaller line item options (ex. humidification). Once contract was signed, the vendor was extremely responsive working with us to schedule the work on-site. Once the vendor was on-site, techs were professional, courteous, and sought feedback when appropriate. The vendor sub-contracted out electrical work, and those folks were terrific as well. The job took roughly 4 concurrent days to complete, one day longer than anticipated. This was OK as the vendor appeared to take the appropriate time necessary to complete the job properly. This was not a rush job. Vendor ended the on-site installation requesting that we arrange for a test of the AC portion of the system in April/May, as this wasn't the optimal time to run the system through it's paces. All around very happy with the work, the new system, and we plan to keep them on to service the unit annually.
Description of Work: Replaced existing gas furnace with two stage Carrier unit, added a humidifier, and replaced some failing duct insulation. Upgraded home to also include air conditioning, bathroom fan. Vendor removed all old equipment off-site, made arrangements to sub-contract electrical work, and took out all the necessary town permits.

They came out the next day, and it was in August. The technician who came found and advised us of the problem. Although it would require major repairs that we are putting off for now, he was still very professional and knew what he was doing. He also explained that due to upcoming changes in the law, since we needed to replace the compressor anyway, we should probably upgrade to the equipment that will meet the upcoming federal standards.

Bob was very responsive. I had tried 2 other companies before finding Air Specialties. These other ones did not return my phone calls until about 2 weeks later. One company sent a guy to do an estimate, he forgot and then he did appear late when I called him on the day of our appointment to ask him where he was. Then I emailed, called for the next week trying to nail down the quote and he never responded at all. I was thinking all contractors in this business were unprofessiona, until I found Air Specialties on the internet. Immediately responsive, received a timely evaluation of the work that would need to be done and actually throughout the next few weeks, Bob contacted Me several times trying to nail down a suitable date (my schedule is really variable). He was very thorough in following up. The technicians he sent were nice, came for 3 days from about 8:30-3:30, laid down protecting sheets on the floors and wore booties. Everything looks good, clean and I can now be worry-free about hot water and my HVAC system at least for another 10 years.

First of all, the technician who came to work on the air conditioners was outstanding. He was very friendly, knowledgeable, and happy to explain what his thought process was giving pros and cons for different options. We have two zones of air conditioning: The attic air conditioner unit had been leaking into one of the upstairs bedroom. The technician changed the filter (for a nominal fee), unclogged the drainage pipe, and checked the pitch of the unit to be sure that it was draining properly. He pointed out to me where the primary and secondary water pans were and explained how the secondary pan should have a sensor to shut down the unit when water builds up. He checked the sensor as well. I should also point out that area where the attic unit sits is INCREDIBLY hot and the technician worked and sweat without complaint! (I don't known yet if the leakage problem is completely fixed, but so far, it seems to be). The basement air conditioning unit had also been leaking and making noise. We found that the base of the unit was completely filled with >30 liters of water, which we drained. Plus he pulled out various toys (balloon ect) that had fallen into the vent. The filter was changed and the technician redid the drain piping so that the filter could be changed more easily. He checked that it was draining properly.
Description of Work: Worked on two air conditioners that were not functioning properly (both leaking water).

Our central A/C system died during a hot night. I contacted Air Specialties at 7:45 AM and received a call back within 20 minutes. I scheduled an afternoon appointment, but received a call before 9am to ask if I was available 15 minutes after the call. The technician, Pete, arrived promptly and was professional and efficient. He tested and found the problem within 40 minutes, replaced parts and retested the system. I had A/C within 3 hours of my contact with the provider via Angie's List.

Well I guess I?m going to be the exception here. I give the technician an A but the company gets an F. Here?s why. Short Story: The diagnosis/estimate will cost you at least $150 and will NOT be applied to the cost of the repair. They charged me an additional $300 to install a $75 part taking 15 minutes. My total charge for 1 hour on site was $556.21. Also, they will NOT honor the Angie?s List discount even though it is on the web site. Long Story: Based on the glowing reviews and Super Service Award I decided to contact Air Specialties to fix the condenser unit on my central A/C. The symptoms were compressor running but the compressor fan not working. I was told it would be $150 for the first ½ hour and $75 each ½ hour after. Seemed pricey at $225 for an hour, but with such good reviews I decided to proceed. What I didn?t realize at the time was the $150 would not be applied against the service. I was under the impression that Free Estimate meant just that. I was wrong. The technician arrived, opened the covers and diagnosed the problem in under 5 minutes; a blown capacitor. He checks his truck and he has a universal replacement capacitor so the service can proceed. He then tells me the flat rate to replace this capacitor is $373. I?m shocked. I can see this job is going to take another 15 minutes at most. There is one screw and 3 wires to attach. That?s it. I ask how much the part is. As expected, he can?t tell me that. He only has his flat rate book which lumps parts and labor together. But I?m guessing this is a $50 part. So we?re probably talking over $300 for 15 minutes of labor. Labor I?ve already paid $150 for since we?re still well within the first ½ hour! So he asks me what I want to do. He can?t proceed without my approval. I?m trapped. I know full well this is an outrageous price and that I?ll be paying for the labor twice. What I don?t know, is if this is the only problem. Perhaps the failed capacitor caused other parts to fail too. I have no choice. I have to proceed. I protest mildly to the technician, but his hands are tied too. No point shooting the messenger. 15 minutes later, the compressor is up and running again and no other problems are apparent. The technician goes to his truck to fill out some paper work and I go to my computer to check the price of the new capacitor. It ranges in price from $35-75, depending on the source. And these are retail prices. The contractor certainly must buy them wholesale. But to make things easier let?s say the capacitor is $73. That means I just paid $300 in labor to install a part during a session I had already paid $150 for. To me, time is time and labor is labor, whether the technician is diagnosing a problem or replacing a part. A little while later, he brings me the invoice and then calls the office with my credit card. Total time on site is one hour. Total time actually doing productive work is 30 minutes. The other 30 minutes are consumed filling out paper work, calling the office and trying to justify the pricing policy to me. Oh, and trying to sell me a maintenance contract for $640. He explains to me that today?s $556 bill would have been free if I had bought the $640 contract. I could only laugh at that one. Later that day I call the office and explain all this, hoping for some relief. The office can only repeat over and over that they are not double billing the labor and that if I didn?t want the service I shouldn?t have authorized it. I even offered to pay for a full hour at $225 (150 + 75) and $75 for the part, for a total of $300. I thought that was pretty reasonable since it really didn?t take an hour and the part didn?t really cost $75. No good. I told them my Angie?s List review would reflect my experience. They didn?t care. I told them the Better Buiness Bureau would be next. Didn?t care about that either. To cap it all off, they denied there was a $20 Angie?s List discount available, despite the fact I was looking at it on the screen. It read ?$100 off any installation of a new unit or $20 off any HVAC or Furnance repair.? I guess, I shouldn?t be surprised.
